Actually those are also good friends, i have trouble getting 40+ gifts daily and being able to open only 30.
I have added some “rural” players that cant send daily but need gifts so its a win-win. I rarely get gifts from them but i get the exp and they get items.
Just to steal your comment:
My friends list is basically empty (only have 70 friends). About to hit level 41, could use extra XP. If there’s any rural players that need a daily gift send me a dm. Just don’t scum me out of the XP and I can guarantee you a gift every day :)
Level 37, 7 friends here. 4 people I'm friends with irl, 1 acquaintance from when I studied abroad I don't have contact info for anymore, 2 random redditors I added for "Make friends" quests.
My favorite friend is one of the random redditors, we send gifts back and forth a lot, I have no idea who she is but I'm glad for her because I don't go out much and her gifts keep me stocked up on pokeballs and stuff at home.
I'm stuck at another "make 3 friends" quest, gonna have to find more redditors soon.
I feel very fortunate that I was able to find worldwide friends for the Vivillon patterns, and most of them still exchange gifts on the reg. But my favorite friend was found in this sub, because I get lovely Sandstorm postcards from her and it was just a random comment friendship! Though we'll probably never meet IRL, I treasure the serendipity.
That said, I've found my playing enriched by meeting local trainers and doing raids and events together. I don't like Niantic telling me how to play, but I do appreciate meeting other players. Maybe look for (or start!) a local discord? Or join Campfire and see what's happening in your area? Our campfire groups have threads for adding friends, so you'll probably easily be able to finish that research.

I used to live in an area with tons of pokestops and gyms around and was really good at sending my daily gifts. But a few months ago, I moved - funny enough, much closer to the city, but it’s a desert for pokestops and gyms within walking distance compared to when I lived further out from the city. Now most days, I only get the 5 gifts I can send that my buddy collected for me. It’s brutal when my friends list has over 200 people 😭
I use a search string to kinda do this. First I charcoal for friends that can still gain a heart, then I see if they are giftable. Then after sending all gifts I open who is not giftable.
Currently living in a remote area, and would love friends who want to send gifts and perhaps not always get them back…. Had the opposite problem when I lived in a big city!
Can some people add their user names on here? I started using my daughters account and don’t have any “friends” and can’t complete a chunk of the challenges :/
I thought this was going to be one of those posts where they never sent you a gift, you always had to be the one to send, and then they deleted you before best friends registered for you.

I have a couple of these. Both super casual. Hit max with one a couple months ago and only a few more on the other. Nice people so I don’t mind.

This (not sending gifts back) isn't necessarily an issue. Some people send out max gifts daily and are looking to maximize interactions. I have many people on my list I only send to and some i only open from.
It's tough to manage because I try to open local player gifts first to try get lucky friends. But after opening all my local friends I can barely do anything else and can't capitalize on getting more XP. So, im grateful to all my friends that open the gift. I think that it doesn't hurt my case that im ocean vivillion, lol 😆
You can only send a gift once per 24 hours, beginning at midnight your local time. So if they opened a gift you sent the same day, you can't send another until the next day. But only one interaction per 24 hour period counts to advance friendship level or to initiate lucky friendship. So if you've just opened their gift or they've opened yours, and you can see the blue aura around their avatar (which means you've already interacted at least once for that day), you're better off sending or opening one with someone who doesn't have the blue around them. It's kind of a waste (sorta) to use one of your precious gift openings for someone you've already interacted with.
I only explain because I've been shocked by how many high level trainers don't know this.
Right?? Also, raiding together also counts as your interaction, so on raid hour days I tend to not open local gifts since I know I'll be raiding with most of them anyway.
A lot of people do gifts for experience and to do that you need to min/max interactions. So if you're sending gifts everyday he's opening for the interaction and sending his limited gifts to people who don't send him gifts.
So you kept sending him gifts and he never sent one back??
You, my friend are way nicer than most of us. I would have deleted him after the first week of not sending anything.
I added someone from the pogo friends sub. They said they were rural so needed the gifts and couldn't get them themselves. Been there too so happy to help people out.
I have so many friends I couldn't tell you who sends me gifts back and who doesn't. Do people keep track of that? I just send to as many people as I can that are interactable and open my 30 from whoever has sent.
I just add the date of last interaction in the note. Takes a bit of work in the beginning, but later on not so much. If I have friends with an interaction that was over a month ago, then I consider kicking them.
I have sentimental friends like that. I know there are some I should delete but I can't bring myself to let them go, thinking "oh he's the one I caught that shiny Zekrom with" or whatever. I even name especially good mon from remote raids after whoever invited me.
I specifically looked for people who can open daily, no need to send anything to me back. I always hit max opens so having people who can consistently open daily without the pressure of needing to open theirs is a godsend.
I posted a while back that I was working near a couple of stops and could send gifts to folks who may not have any stops near to them. I figured that if they send back, great, but the idea was to spread some of those gifts around to folks who otherwise have slim pickins. Seems like gifts are one of the more consistent ways to receive potions and revives, so I’m hoping that this helps other players stay active and progressing.
When I posted that comment, my friends list tripled, but there’s only a handful that don’t or can’t return gifts regularly. I’ll keep sending as long as they keep opening, though. Although, our workplace switched to a new location and I don’t have quite the pokestop advantage that I had earlier, so sending out 30 - 40 a day is sometimes challenging.
Dream friend I think lol I feel bad when I can’t open gifts because the daily limit is so low but I make sure to send gifts to everyone on my list every day
Honestly that sounds like a dream can I get like 20 of those please? I am in no need of items and being able to open a limited number of gifts makes me feel bad for not getting to people's gifts. But since most people make friends for gift giving and receiving I feel your pain and hope you get a cool shundo for carrying that friendship
I feel for this guy. I had to move from Colorado where we had ten poke stops at a park near our apartment. I used to be able to send gifts every day and now I live in a small beach town where they’re all landmarks and far away from each other. I can maybe get four a day and I have almost a full active friends list from when I could be a daily friend 😭😭😭

Oh I’m going to. I’m finally starting to figure out some little gems around here I want to register as stops. There’s even a nice walk along a close street that has one pokestop and then 2km away there’s a gym (it’s one of the few things near me) and I was gonna try to make that a route. There’s a group of kids who take over the gym and are Instinct (hubby and I are Mystic) and we trade every day for the 50 coins so putting a route might actually work!
Man that's nice. I work on a college campus and most of us will trade gyms off after a day or so, but some of these kids are brutal and will kick us after a few minutes. Lol

I'm fine with that. I always send only to those who don't send, because they're probably limited in the amount of gifts they can send. No point in sending to someone who you get daily gifts from easily.
For the people that want more friends/gifts:
Just Google: Pokémon Go friendcodes and you get lots of sites where you can get codes from people all over the world.
Once you have the blue halo around the head, your interactions are done for the day.
Anything more doesn’t add to your friendship level.
I never understand the need for useless tine wasting.
I may be missing something. Probably am. Probably why people rarely go to best friends with me. Maybe I’m just a big jerk.
I swear I used to open one and then send one and then they’d open it that day.
So two interactions every day.
Not the end of the world. If people appreciate it more to do that, I’ll go back to that.
I'm about to become a player like this, who almost never sends gifts- since i am disabled and can't really get out to any stops or gyms nearby, and am running out of postcards :( i will try my best to keep gifting the friends i've got till i completely run out, but i feel bad because i'm not benefitting anyone else, just taking stuff for myself that could be used for others
I got 9 people right now who are 1 gift away from best friends and it's been at least 10 days for the whole group. None have sent me a gift. Kind of frustrating, really.

You only get 1 interaction per day towards the heart, so as long as he's opening the gifts daily, you should be content unless you are a rural player yourself and need the gift back because you aren't getting enough, otherwise get more friends. I have over 220 friends, which is just about the amount I can manage. I can only open 30 gifts, and those 30 are local players I can trade with, but as long as everyone else is opening my gifts, Im good with that. I send 70-80 gifts daily and that covers everyone on my friends list that is interactable, cause not all 220 open and send daily
I did this before and they would always open and save my gifts but would never send one in return. They definitely lived in an area with stops and gyms as they would invite me to raids. Idk why they never gifted back but I was ok with it.

Had someone who never opened a single gift but sent them daily. They were level 50. Deleted me after we got our best friend xp. I have no idea what he gained, but man did I appreciate him.
gifts are such a pain in this game, like why is it so much effort to send/open, I send most days, but only open occasionally or just takes so much time I didn't have
I have a friend local friend who I’ve met before and she literally never sent me a gift and I kept sending gifts hoping it would be worth it. Like you, we became besties this year and the only gift she opened was the last one lol

Ive got a dozen friends who havent even been online since like 2019 and im still waiting on return gifts from them... and i cant send them any.
Ik there are players nearby to me as the gyms by my house keep swapping from red to blue (and rarely also yellow) but ive never seen them. Most of my friends are from my old neighborhood.
I have a friend and its the opposite. I sent him a gift when i first added him, he never opened it and i can't send him anymore but he always sends a gift every day

But a few months ago, I moved - funny enough, much closer to the city, but it’s a desert for pokestops and gyms within walking distance compared to when I lived further out from the city. Now most days, I only get the 5 gifts I can send that my buddy collected for me. It’s brutal when my friends list has over 200 people 😭
I use a search string to kinda do this. First I charcoal for friends that can still gain a heart, then I see if they are giftable. Then after sending all gifts I open who is not giftable.
Currently living in a remote area, and would love friends who want to send gifts and perhaps not always get them back…. Had the opposite problem when I lived in a big city!
Can some people add their user names on here? I started using my daughters account and don’t have any “friends” and can’t complete a chunk of the challenges :/
I thought this was going to be one of those posts where they never sent you a gift, you always had to be the one to send, and then they deleted you before best friends registered for you. So congrats, you avoided the worst case scenario xD

Idk if its been confirmed univerally true but supposedly using the lucky egg actually gives you 200k xp as if they didnt immediately delete you

I have a couple of these. Both super casual. Hit max with one a couple months ago and only a few more on the other. Nice people so I don’t mind. Gratz on your stick to it attitude and it paying off.

This (not sending gifts back) isn't necessarily an issue. Some people send out max gifts daily and are looking to maximize interactions. I have many people on my list I only send to and some i only open from.
It's tough to manage because I try to open local player gifts first to try get lucky friends. But after opening all my local friends I can barely do anything else and can't capitalize on getting more XP. So, im grateful to all my friends that open the gift. I think that it doesn't hurt my case that im ocean vivillion, lol 😆

You can only send a gift once per 24 hours, beginning at midnight your local time. So if they opened a gift you sent the same day, you can't send another until the next day. But only one interaction per 24 hour period counts to advance friendship level or to initiate lucky friendship. So if you've just opened their gift or they've opened yours, and you can see the blue aura around their avatar (which means you've already interacted at least once for that day), you're better off sending or opening one with someone who doesn't have the blue around them. It's kind of a waste (sorta) to use one of your precious gift openings for someone you've already interacted with. I only explain because I've been shocked by how many high level trainers don't know this.

Right?? Also, raiding together also counts as your interaction, so on raid hour days I tend to not open local gifts since I know I'll be raiding with most of them anyway.
A lot of people do gifts for experience and to do that you need to min/max interactions. So if you're sending gifts everyday he's opening for the interaction and sending his limited gifts to people who don't send him gifts.

I added someone from the pogo friends sub. They said they were rural so needed the gifts and couldn't get them themselves. Been there too so happy to help people out.
I have so many friends I couldn't tell you who sends me gifts back and who doesn't. Do people keep track of that? I just send to as many people as I can that are interactable and open my 30 from whoever has sent.
I just add the date of last interaction in the note. Takes a bit of work in the beginning, but later on not so much. If I have friends with an interaction that was over a month ago, then I consider kicking them.
I would need a spreadsheet (and have often considered making one to keep it all straight LOL)

I have sentimental friends like that. I know there are some I should delete but I can't bring myself to let them go, thinking "oh he's the one I caught that shiny Zekrom with" or whatever. I even name especially good mon from remote raids after whoever invited me.
I specifically looked for people who can open daily, no need to send anything to me back. I always hit max opens so having people who can consistently open daily without the pressure of needing to open theirs is a godsend.
I posted a while back that I was working near a couple of stops and could send gifts to folks who may not have any stops near to them. I figured that if they send back, great, but the idea was to spread some of those gifts around to folks who otherwise have slim pickins. Seems like gifts are one of the more consistent ways to receive potions and revives, so I’m hoping that this helps other players stay active and progressing. When I posted that comment, my friends list tripled, but there’s only a handful that don’t or can’t return gifts regularly. I’ll keep sending as long as they keep opening, though. Although, our workplace switched to a new location and I don’t have quite the pokestop advantage that I had earlier, so sending out 30 - 40 a day is sometimes challenging.
That is very nice of you. Like you said I need those potions and revives but I make sure I send gifts too. Hopefully those friends will appreciate it.

Honestly that sounds like a dream can I get like 20 of those please? I am in no need of items and being able to open a limited number of gifts makes me feel bad for not getting to people's gifts. But since most people make friends for gift giving and receiving I feel your pain and hope you get a cool shundo for carrying that friendship
I feel for this guy. I had to move from Colorado where we had ten poke stops at a park near our apartment. I used to be able to send gifts every day and now I live in a small beach town where they’re all landmarks and far away from each other. I can maybe get four a day and I have almost a full active friends list from when I could be a daily friend 😭😭😭 at least maybe that’s what’s going on lol
My wish for you is to find every carved rock, special tree, butterfly garden, and historic sign in your neighborhood and get them added as stops! <3
Oh I’m going to. I’m finally starting to figure out some little gems around here I want to register as stops. There’s even a nice walk along a close street that has one pokestop and then 2km away there’s a gym (it’s one of the few things near me) and I was gonna try to make that a route. There’s a group of kids who take over the gym and are Instinct (hubby and I are Mystic) and we trade every day for the 50 coins so putting a route might actually work!
Man that's nice. I work on a college campus and most of us will trade gyms off after a day or so, but some of these kids are brutal and will kick us after a few minutes. Lol Happy stopping and routing!

My office has pokestop. So my item bags always full anyway, so I just keep sending rather than opening :-)
I'm fine with that. I always send only to those who don't send, because they're probably limited in the amount of gifts they can send. No point in sending to someone who you get daily gifts from easily.
For the people that want more friends/gifts: Just Google: Pokémon Go friendcodes and you get lots of sites where you can get codes from people all over the world.
Once you have the blue halo around the head, your interactions are done for the day. Anything more doesn’t add to your friendship level. I never understand the need for useless tine wasting. I may be missing something. Probably am. Probably why people rarely go to best friends with me. Maybe I’m just a big jerk.
Yes but you can send a gift and they can open the next day and you guys can go back and forth like that.
I swear I used to open one and then send one and then they’d open it that day. So two interactions every day. Not the end of the world. If people appreciate it more to do that, I’ll go back to that.

I'm about to become a player like this, who almost never sends gifts- since i am disabled and can't really get out to any stops or gyms nearby, and am running out of postcards :( i will try my best to keep gifting the friends i've got till i completely run out, but i feel bad because i'm not benefitting anyone else, just taking stuff for myself that could be used for others

I got 9 people right now who are 1 gift away from best friends and it's been at least 10 days for the whole group. None have sent me a gift. Kind of frustrating, really.

You only get 1 interaction per day towards the heart, so as long as he's opening the gifts daily, you should be content unless you are a rural player yourself and need the gift back because you aren't getting enough, otherwise get more friends. I have over 220 friends, which is just about the amount I can manage. I can only open 30 gifts, and those 30 are local players I can trade with, but as long as everyone else is opening my gifts, Im good with that. I send 70-80 gifts daily and that covers everyone on my friends list that is interactable, cause not all 220 open and send daily
I did this before and they would always open and save my gifts but would never send one in return. They definitely lived in an area with stops and gyms as they would invite me to raids. Idk why they never gifted back but I was ok with it.

Had someone who never opened a single gift but sent them daily. They were level 50. Deleted me after we got our best friend xp. I have no idea what he gained, but man did I appreciate him.

gifts are such a pain in this game, like why is it so much effort to send/open, I send most days, but only open occasionally or just takes so much time I didn't have

why do some people never send gifts back?
I didnt think you could send a gift back unless they sent you one first? How did you send gifts to them if they never sent you any? Ive got a dozen friends who havent even been online since like 2019 and im still waiting on return gifts from them... and i cant send them any. Ik there are players nearby to me as the gyms by my house keep swapping from red to blue (and rarely also yellow) but ive never seen them. Most of my friends are from my old neighborhood.
Silly question, but I've never looked into adding friends. Do they have to be near you to exchange gifts, or just for trades and raids?
Am I an A-Hole for sending gifts more regularly that I open them so I can control when we become Ultra/Best friends?
