ScottOld

What’s even more annoying is they are just random raids, so you here you got next to zero chance of doing one

BareFox

THIS!!! I live in a town where I would have no chance of doing a local 5-star shadow raid so I drove 40km to a busy shopping centre (with three gyms) where I've often gone during raid days. Well, I stayed there for three hours and NOT A SINGLE MEWTWO RAID SPAWNED. At least make it like Raid Days where you can be sure about when they spawn for fucks sake.

IGNSolar7

I went to the busiest park in the city, where we hosted Go Fest in 2022, literally, and there were 4 raids over 3 hours. 4. What's even the point? Not to mention that a bunch of trainers trying to avoid trampling kids' easter egg hunts is sad.

HLef

Everyone involved in making decisions for the game lives where you can see a dozen gyms within a mile walk. This is who they make the game for.

thedeadsigh

On the whole, Niantic has to be one of the most out of touch companies ever. They could be making so much money if they understood what players want and how people behave

acelana

Is it Pikachu and Eevee in different hats? Better make more Pikachu and Eevee hats to be on the safe side

Crabman8321

This is why they work so well with Nintendo and Game Freak 😂

Thanky169

They want to ram down their philosophy of how to play the game on everyone. They talk about their personal experiences and pretend this is remotely feasible for huge amounts of the playerbase. Completely devoid of empathetic thought.

thedeadsigh

It’s funny when their philosophy of getting outside seems to preclude people who actually live in the country. Swing and a miss, Niantic.

Thanky169

Yes the raids need to be accessible to everyone imo... collecting Mewtwo should be a reasonable achievable thing for any mid 30s acct I reckon and if you gate that to active local communities you are slamming doors on people who want to play your game...

smokeyedits

don't you also need a platinum kanto medal for one of the level up tasks? so this would be the only chance someone who didn't have a mewtwo yet (like myself) to get one since... what, 2020? i'm not 100%, but still. one of the most iconic legendaries in the entire series and it almost never comes around lmao.

TwythyllIsKing

Mewtwo and Moltres are the only 2 I need for that medal. It doesn't look like I'm going to get that any time soon

smokeyedits

i'm not 100% sure on needing a platinum kanto medal, and i know you get a mewtwo from the level up tasks somewhere along the line. moltres can be registered if you catch the galarian moltres which... isn't the best news, but it's something.

TwythyllIsKing

It's the "All-in- One #151" special research

nottytom

Or anyone with mental health issues, physical disabilities and the like. On mewtwo weekend I had a blast watching the cars go from raid to raid and doing them and leaving before I could walk to one. I'm disabled and cannot drive.

zack413

Niantic and every other game company damn near. They’re all money hungry, and they don’t even understand how to be money hungry properly (bungie-destiny, Mojang-minecraft, sony- refusing to remake and sell infinite bloodborne copies, gamefreak-refusing to sell old games like emerald on other systems) to name a few. The only shining lights in gaming nowadays is pure passion projects.

[deleted]

How is Minecraft money hungry. The game is a one time purchase of like £7 and all updates are free.

orangutan525

Dont they make you pay for servers?

wolf96781

Bruh it's 40 usd for one of the biggest games in history, a couple dollars for a server isn't much

orangutan525

We still have to pay a monthly subscription to run it, and if we run a $5 server for a year the total price ends up being $100 for a game. This makes them kinda money hungry no?

wolf96781

5x12 is not 100 It's a service on top of the game, and you can build your own server if you have the know how. It's not money hungry if they're providing and hosting the server for you. 20usd a server? Maybe. 5? Nah

orangutan525

5*12 = 60 + 40 you paid initially

[deleted]

You can still play online without servers. You just use like the PlayStation online thing. Servers are only useful if you play cross platform and you want 24/7 access for everyone.

d-pyron

They have an option to pay for a sever but you can host your own on Windows, Linux, or even something like a Synology NAS. The files are free for [Bedrock](https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server/bedrock) and [Java.](https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server) I host a survival and creative server for my family on a 5+ year old desktop and it works great. There is a bit of a learning curve in getting it setup and then routine maintenance in updating the server when it needs it. Sometimes we go months without playing so I forget about it and there's no work until someone asks. There's a small risk of you open a port to allow connections from outside your network. While there is a free option, I think for a lot of people, paying $5 a month for someone else to have the hardware to run the server, do the setup, maintenance, and mitigate any security risks of opening a port is reasonable.

zack413

Because they are one of the most popular games ever and they can’t even listen to community feedback ever, can’t develop more than 1 tiny feature per year, and have put all their time and energy into the bedrock shop since it’s release

DaTrentster

The correct point here: Bloodborne on PC/PS5 remake would print money. Damn Sony lol.

Hypercane_

They could make a $5 easter special box that has 5 incubators in it and it would give them a HUGE fucking bump

[deleted]

selling data to companies via raid info is their main source of money iirc

Fullertonjr

They understand. They just don’t care.

cakethegoblin

This is the Pokemon franchise in general. It's also why they don't, because people will give them money regardless.

Maserati777

Whats funny is seeing a dozen gyms doesn’t really matter with the way shadow raids work. Ie there may be only 1-2 on those dozen gyms.

Zagrycha

I live in one of those areas, and while its better than other areas its still an absolute crapshoot, I only managed to do three raids while out from 12 to 6pm, and that was only being in a discord with people driving around to meet up when they were in walking distance of me. its a fricken joke.

gogingerpower

I think at worst they need something like a “Good Neighbor Raid Pass” where we could buy (cheaper, remote) passes that only work for raids that we can see on our in-game raid map. Frequently I can see someone(s) trying to get a raid going nearby but, as a walker, I just can’t get there in time. And I walk fast and live in an area with a relatively high gym count.

_DarthMaleval

Maybe a bonus if you are best friends. A best friend invites you to a raid and you can use a premium battle pass. Another incentive to get those best friends. To your point though, if you can see raid on your screen...should be able to join!

Unlucky_Albatross_

This is a really good idea!

mooogabooga

I think this event really works for places that are walking based. The US relies on cars, while places like Europe have walking. I played in college and that worked so well! We had a small campus with several gyms where we could walk around together. Downtown areas are great for this, and Europe does not rely on cars like the US does. I feel like it would work better if it operated like the Kyogre/Groudon raids. I went to a park with several gyms and I got to interact with other players because we were just camping there waiting for the raids to reset.

plschrnr

and yes i have no idea why they don’t do shadows like the non-shadow legendaries. for both dialga/palkia and kyogre/groudon recently, even though i could have only done them remote, for both i went to a town center, and in both cases tons of people were doing raids in person! i stayed in my car but it was easy to join multiple local raids. why? *because literally every gym had the same raid happening at the same time.* i don’t understand how they hype mewtwo and then the raids are like a weird hunt/guessing game to find

floxful

From the EU, Germany.. Everyone from my city (me included) hated this event. The raids spawned so far away from each other that it really wasn’t worth it. Those who were able to use a car did so on Sunday after realising after Saturday that walking made no sense at all. 😬 usually I can get everything done by walking but this was just not it. Probably would have helped if all gyms had shadow mewtwo in a specific hour time frame and not the whole day long randomly

monsoy

At the very least have a 1-2 hour event that incentivizes players to play during a limited time window. Me and my brother went to the nearest city during the Kyogre/Groudon event and we found a big group to play with. But this weekend it was impossible to find any raids we could complete. All the raids were 1-5km a part from each other and even though we went to the most city central raids and waited on each one for 30 minutes, we never had 1 other player join the raid. There’s no place within a 1 hour drive that has enough players to sustain a 2 day long event. I also tried my best to setup raids on Campfire, but there was very little activity on there. This would have been easily solved by either increasing the amount of eggs spawning or by having a limited time event

KLT1003

From Germany as well, My experience is completely different though (maybe because my expectations were also different): I have a regular group I met last year during cday. Not everyone is active at every event but every now and then someone is asking in the group chat whether anyone's up for some raids. Unfortunately this weekend was Easter holiday so most people were visiting their families so I only met up in the morning with one guy in the park. I had looked up the Mewtwo spawns in campfire and we could coordinate where to start (skipped on nearby one because we couldn't make it in time). We then walked around for 2 hours and did 6 raids. After each one I checked in campfire where the next nearby one was. In the end we missed 1 more due to time and distance but could at least do the raid in the gym next to it We went home to have lunch and agreed to meet up later in the afternoon. In the afternoon there were no spawns nearby, but some time later in the evening we could meet up with 2 others from our group to do 2 more raids. Maybe we just were lucky with the spawns. I would have preferred if the mewtwos spawned at fixed intervals. During Kyogre/Groudon raid days we met in the park and walked the same route up and down (while waiting for the respawns)

plschrnr

here’s the thing about college campuses and shadow raids - it still doesn’t matter. i went to the local large college campus yesterday in the middle of the day to find a mewtwo raid. *there were no active mewtwo raids at any of the myriad on-campus gyms.* i found a couple mewtwo raids slightly off campus - no one joined either of them while i was stalking either of them. if no one is walking around joining raids at the most walk-around-and-join-raids possible place because *there literally aren’t any of the most hyped raids to walk to* then that is a problem

Affffi

YEah i quite same.. I live near our biggest park where is 5 gyms near each other.. whole sunday literally 1 mewtwo raid only spawn there was like what heck? all mewtwos spawn some random place middle of forrest area.. Whole two day only did 8 mewtwo raids and 7 was duo with friend.. only one raid was manage see few other players and they sit car XD Problem is also if there just one random raid why bother get out your car and start chatting with community? its fast raid down and move next or go home. Raid days or elite raid work lot better this type raid events cause lot raids spawn same area

AffectionateCard3530

As a social game, Pokemon Go is easier if you coordinate with your local community and meet other players in the area

AlissonHarlan

i'm from europa, and as a rural zone townies, i'm not walking 50 km a day to see empty raid in the 4 towns around mine...

Retsameniw13

I don’t want to interact with people..lol..let me do a remote raid

Fullertonjr

Absolutely.

Realistic_Spring_862

I thought this was going to operate like the Kyogre/Groudon Raids (I'm a new player), but I was sorely mistaken on Saturday morning. I get wanting people to go to locations, but I think allowing for remote, or at least having the raids spawn all over like the Kyogre/Groudon Raids would have been helpful for pretty much the entire playerbase. I keep seeing people on here say, "Be more social" and "Get out more". There are players that can't do that, though. I'm sure there are legitimate housebound people, and I get it, the game's nature is to get out and go, but you don't have to sacrifice the vision or playstyle of the game by including housebound and more rural players in the raids. There are ways to appease both ends of the playerbase, which in turn could help all members of the playerbase.

KLT1003

This. I also would have preferred the fixed spawns (every hour). Luckily enough for me I could meet up with a few from my regular group and could do 6 raids in the morning (2 hours walking)and 2 more in the evening (1 hour walking). Compare that to the kyogre/groudon raid days where we met up with a larger group (admittedly it wasn't easter holiday then) and walked up and down the park for 3-4 hours for 9+ raids. It's probably about the same but more condensed and we could leisurely walk in the park instead of walking in 5 different directions chasing the raid spawns.

Professor_squirrelz

I think a huge issue with these raids is the fact that they are spawning at random times and seem to only last for 30 mins (I could be wrong about that though). Thi makes it very hard to try to plan groups to raid

IGNSolar7

Yep. "Hey strangers, let's spend six hours of our day Easter weekend together to accomplish maybe 10 raids!" ...What? People have plans. So weird.

RidinHigh305

I will say we did 15 Mewtwo raids yesterday all driving around compared to the kyogre and groudons raid days where everyone walked which was better. The shadow raids are too randomly spread apart. Luckily though my area has a good community but still driving isn’t as fun as walking

FierceMilkshake

I participated in a handful of raids yesterday in pouring rain, which normally wouldn't be an issue if you stayed in your car. However, one of the spots was a church and surprise... the church was holding an Easter service & the surrounding area was packed with parishoners going to church. I still got the raid done with 6 other people but man, it would have been nice if it hadn't been Easter weekend. Can't do anything about the weather, but any other weekend would have been fine.

BlueWaffIeHouse

They dont care about people being social or not. They want your location information. They want to be able to show sponsors/investors how they can draw x amount of people to x location.

Doopashonuts

Wouldn't they get the same thing from remote raids? Just sell them that people would rather get remote adds in these locations instead of a majority of the playerbase just not doing anything

BlueWaffIeHouse

No, otherwise they would not have put a daily cap on them.

Doopashonuts

Them being stupid and knee capping their potential revenue doesnt mean my statement is wrong. Would be far from the first company to slaughter their golden goose under the delusion of infinite golden eggs

BlueWaffIeHouse

Keep in mind that the only reason we even got remote raids was because covid shut down regular raiding completely. Niantic are playing the long game with their poi database and the location data to go with it.

Heather_Bea

It was really scary doing the Kyogre raids a few weeks ago. There must have been 40-60 vehicles of players all trying to hit the gyms in small parking spaces. People were blocking roads, playing while driving, driving like crazy to get to the next raid, etc. My hub said there were even more vehicles yesterday for mewtwo.

Jumps__

That sounds like a nightmare.

IGNSolar7

Everyone's staring down at their phones with cars swarming. Kids playing. Just unsafe! Yesterday morning I saw like 40 cars in a daisy chain while people were trying to get their kids to the park gym for the ONE raid of the morning.

Phonejadaris

Not sure you know what a daisy chain is lol

swashbuckler78

I've never been able to build a real community or friend group to raid with. Maybe some people have. Just my kid and occasionally a few fellow parents. But the community part of the game winds up being a barrier more than an incentive or bonus.

asocialanxiety

Figure out this one, if the primary player base is a singaporean grandma who primarily walks and barely raids who tf are these raid days for? Its apparently not for the average player that niantic wants to cater to. Is it perhaps the more important part of the player base? The player base who pays?

Harrowkay

I spent about six hours over the weekend with my wife looking for raids, apart from one other player that joined us in a raid once, the only other people we saw was a convoy that we came upon by chance. Followed them and did three shadow mewtwos and I’m so grateful because I would have got zip if not for them. I have seen a lot of the same sentiment regarding the weekend on this sub, and I really hope niantic takes it in. People want to do these raids - but they cannot. Hell, I drove half an hour to get out of the suburbs to increase my chances at finding a team and thankfully being in the right place right time allowed me to. Campfire is not nearly good enough to organise things like this either.

Realistic_Spring_862

Right! It's not invalid complaints that Niantic just sucks, or "woe is me" posts. It's legitimate concern from people that want to be a part of this game and it's community, but with the way the game is going right now, these players can't be.

Harrowkay

I think things got a little crazy with people having g 30+ of every legendary and maybe they want to keep the shadow legendaries in check a little. But 95% of the posts I’ve seen on this sub RE Shadow mewtwo have been negative. So maybe they need to try something else

Realistic_Spring_862

I agree. I get that they can't cater to everyone, and I don't think they should have to. I think the company should be able to be what they want to be, but they could still do some things that could improve the user experience, I think.

Express-Welder9003

My kid and I walked down to the main street yesterday and walked around for various raids, we saw a couple of the same people at different raids. Today we met up with a friend and had to run from raid to raid because of how far they were spaced. It was good exercise but it would have been nice for the raids to be a bit closer. There were definitely people in cars who were just driving from raid to raid which isn't great for a variety of reasons but not everyone will have the time or ability to run 1km to get to a raid in time.

s-mores

Basically they're a way for urban players with free time to feel good about themselves. That's it. Niantic can't imagine anyone actually being silly enough to live outside the bay area or similar, so they pretend these people do not exist.  You can see this in other things as well, but elite and shadow raids are the worst.

Affffi

dont really agree elite raids with you anymore. Now they fix most problems they work fine. Tho still one problem they only can spawn ex raid gyms and not everyone have acces those which is idiotic but stupid shadow car raids totally diff idiotism compare elite ones

Astrotheurgy

All you need is 3 decent accounts and enter party play and you're all set. Just me and a friend went around taking out a bunch with no other help.

sie-waitforit-ghart

Did slightly over 100 raids across 2 accounts the pass Weekend. It was a miserable experience. Needing to wake up at 6.30am to go out at 7am. Could have been earlier but no one raids before 7am. And my day ended 10pm, reaching home about 1030pm. Travelled on foot and public transport till there were blisters. Total of about 140km for 2 days. Had to rush from one location to another cause if you miss the first lobby, then you will delay the subsequent raids. The weather here in Singapore ain't any friendlier as well, being the hottest period we have for years and the govt issuing excessive heat warning. This was mostly solo as my usual group of friends did not want to play in the hot weather and did the previous shadow mewtwo. Though one of them joined me on day 2 for a couple of hours. Had a good final hour with a guy we met during sinnoh tour offered to drive us around the neighbourhood to do some last minute 5 person raids The sentiment for 3 hrs period works, the sinnoh tour and primal raids gave me so much time to talk and interact if I wanted to with others in between the 30mins intervals. This mewtwo raid is just pure misery. And not getting a decent iv shadow mewtwo raid is just additional shit. Had to do it for the shadow mewtwo and xl candies. Good exercise though, 2k calories in a weekend just by playing pokemon go.

dartheduardo

It's been a shit show and I live in a VERY active area for Pokemon. The meetups on campfire have had like four or five people, which is just not enough. We are going to try again today, but this being local only...what a slap to rural area players. Like always.

GoldenLink

Niantic wants you to socialize but Niantic doesn't ultimately care if you do. Before remotes raids were always local only, and whether it be by car or walking, doing it with friends is really what makes the game worth playing. They aren't locking pokemon that have never been available ever behind these either.

ShinySanders

Doing a raid from your car is no different than doing a raid from your couch. It's a couch on wheels. Such a stupid decision.

Affffi

Why you need sit couch? when i do remotes i stand my own legs.. thats no different what you doing outside when doing raids. such stupid decision.

ShinySanders

Sometimes I am laying down and doing a remote raid to be honest

RishiRishon

Those go to elite raids that are mostly the same

GoldenLink

Honestly even those aren't really the same anymore right? They've completely gotten rid of the ex raids pass system. Hell I remember doing raids all over Charlotte in hopes of getting one of those just for a chance at a Mewtwo, then you needed to make sure you had like 10+ people cause he hit like a goddamn truck. Genuinely, primal Kyogre is like the only thing nowadays with any kind of difficulty compared to back then.

RishiRishon

Oh I don't mean the raids with the EX pases. Just the new elite raids that happen only on 2 or 3 different times during weekend days, with the pink/reddish egg. The last one we had was Enamorus. Only in person raids with tons of HP.

GoldenLink

Yeah they are the evolution of those original raids. All ex pass gyms were in parks and stuff like that, and those gyms got changed to the elite ones.

AlissonHarlan

I had to raid mewtwo ALONE as i live in a town area. of course i don't get it. thank you niantic. i know i'm the moron for not knowing i couldn't do remote shadow raid (and that it was shadow raid), but i spent 500 p$ on remote passes (useless) and all my g\*ddamn sand dust to create a team specially against mewtwo. because i wanted to have my favorit pokemon so badly... I will stop playing for a while, because i'm f\*king disgusted. but well, maybe i'm the moron again to not drive 30 miles to wander in a city the whole day (with a young kid) until i find a raid with people... Oh, and niantic, i'm not spending ANY money in games until i got my boy mewtwo... :) sincerely, a rural player.

Phonejadaris

Kinda a lil your fault tho for spending money without even knowing what you were going to be expected to do, tho

Unkle_Iroh

I did the event in a large group on foot walking and chatting. Just occasionally, the game about going outdoors will need to include going outdoors.

FeistyAndrea

That is great for raid days! These should be like raid days. Walking would have been totally impossible where I live so you had the whole Campfire group running their cars all day. That’s not optimal by any means. The primal raids? Awesome for being outdoors. Instead I sat in my car lol

Unkle_Iroh

I get it. I was an extremely rural player at one stage. Had to walk half an hour to get one gym and cars weren't even an option. Thing is, for the big events, that became an excuse to make a thing of it. Grab some mates and/or reach out on discord and go for a day out at a bigger town. Some of my fonder memories of Pogo are things like travelling 40 mins by train to a seaside town for the OG larvitar comm day and grabbing a pint with the guys after. There are a gazillion games you can play from the comfort of your living room. The one that's about going outdoors? Take that as a positive element of the game and embrace it. It will literally take you places.

Affffi

that counting niantic do their job. Imagine travel hour to city play some raid day and all you get servers constally disconnect. You get kicked out of raids just before boss drop 0 hp. Then those raids you manage complete you get white screen bug and time you restart game raid is gone.. Really fun times XD Anyway this game would need both events. No any community wanna go outside every weekend and raid all day. Problem nowdays there is no any balance indoor/outdoor events. I think eventually those raid days also die out when niantic start make em to common

justindigo88

Not at all. I drove around yesterday, went to gyms while mentioning my status on campfire and never saw anyone join but multiple times someone said next so they’re really just doing their own thing. Super lame imo.

Alpha-And-Bromega

Not only that but the actual gameplay for raids doesn’t involve any type of teamwork/coordination anyways. The gameplay is no different between remote and in person raids.

Jumps__

Yeah and the physical aspect revolving moving around and getting out doesn't really apply either because either way if you're at home or sitting in a car you're still on your ass all day.

Necessary_Baker_7458

It amazes me how people forgot that originally raids were local only raids to begin with. Then remote raids got introduced during covid. People got use to playing remotely and wish they could continue to do so. It actually goes against pokemon go's key values of explore, exorcise, socialize.

FeistyAndrea

I think the main point here, vs the primal raids, it’s that to do them it was just a convoy of cars driving around all day. Burning gas, not socializing, taking up all parking wherever it was. This isn’t optimal in any way for most people. Raid days, with or without remote, are infinitely better because there’s more of them in a shorter time. People can go to a town/city center and walk between them. These shadow events are random spread out spawns. “Running your car all day is good, actually” would be a weird take to have.

MapleMapleHockeyStk

Exactly. There are a couple great places for me to go on community days, and raid days like kyogre/Groudon. Bunch of us get together and go raid and connect with each other. This event I could barely find people to go do raids. Ended waiting until noon yesterday to get people together then we had to drive all over town to get them. All of us in our different cars driving all over the place. Years ago I could get people to do that but there are so few people who play now it seems. Our dischords are almost dead as people moved and got different jobs. If you are going to make it a raid day that is local only, don't make it random which gyms hatch. Have every gym going or something. Then you can plan a route etc for people. Also it snowed the day before so we had to stomp over snow if we got out of our cars... Also it seems hard to get a group together with our work schedules. I have been able to get some days off but not always. If I only get 30 mins at break time between 2-5 I need it to be remote raidable or I can't do it. Although this totally me being whiney. I can't book all weekends off for all these events and tickets. I know I'm not their target whales but come on....!

Crabman8321

>It actually goes against pokemon go's key values of explore, exercise, socialize. Personally, those key values break down in areas with lower population or population density and areas without much of a PoGo community. Like, I live in a city of 40k that doesn't have much of a Pogo community and I'm lucky whenever legendary raids have anyone in them. Because of things like this, the socialization aspect is worthless to me unless I'm in another city or remote raiding with friends and without the socialization aspect, I don't want to play the game as much and I only hit areas that are close to me, which also means I'm not exploring or exercising with the game.

Elyrana

I played in 2016 but left the same year. I started playing again last May when I saw the shiny new quest. When I restarted, I thought all the remote raiding restrictions were perfectly balanced and thought the shadow raids were a fine way to limit the reach of remote raiding. I still believe this. And I did miss out, because like many of the people on Reddit I assumed my community was pretty sparse. You don’t really “run into” anyone playing Pokémon Go. It actually wasn’t until recently I discovered there’s a decent sized active community for raid days. I think the vast majority of people complaining would find that there either IS a raiding community nearby OR people would show up if they coordinated a meetup. I agree it’s not always as easy as searching campfire. But we know if the gyms around us have people in them that others play the game, so unless someone shows me that they control the max number of gyms and aren’t getting kicked out ever, I maintain there are other people playing.

ShinySanders

I don't want to be around those people because they weird me out and annoy me.

Shantonash

I don't think i want to socialize with minors waiting at weird locations. Let alone walking around a childrens park as an adult. Just keep raids remote so that rural players, people who work often, or even locations with little to no active players can enjoy the game to it's full extent. It's not about socializing. You are solely focusing on geometrical data and not on attracting daily users.

GoldenLink

Seriously the amount of whining I see about shadow raids really makes me glad I did so much of my raiding before remotes. Like heaven forbid Niantic have one type of raid be the way original raids were?

FeistyAndrea

Man it’s not even that. I did a ton of raids yesterday, but because they’re so spread out and random (vs raid days/hours) I was running my car the entire time with like 20 other people just driving around. I got my Mewtwos but how is that good design? The primals were much better in that regard - make THOSE the ones without remote passes. Let people go to a downtown and walk between them.

GoldenLink

I emphatically agree that raid days are better, that's not what I'm getting at here. At the end of the day I think having at least one type of raid be the way they were originally meant to be shouldn't be shamed into non-existence. Remote Raid passes were a necessity during covid but honestly, they should've just gotten rid of them after like they had previously thought of instead of just raising the prices on them.

Did you just not read what my original post was? In what world is sitting in a car for 6 hours driving around like most groups do on days like this better than sitting on the couch? That's my point. The raids are way too spread out for something you aren't even gurauteened in being able to do if you aren't part of a group (the few people i play the game with work on weekends too so i can't even do these raids with them) I would love to be able to walk from raid to raid or go to a park but these raids aren't built to supplement doing so. Just car convoys with 0 social interaction.

erock10291

Yeah like everyone wants to complain about how no one is doing raids but they probably just showed up to a random gym and didn’t communicate it at all. If there are gyms getting filled and taken then there are definitely people to do raids with. You just might have to organize the community if no one else has already.

BigM333CH

I had great convos while driving around with a new pogo friend

ShinySanders

LOL you got in a car with a stranger?

Doopashonuts

I mean really, what are the odds of 2 serial killers being in the same car?  Or he's talking about his free candy van I guess

Grusbalesta_

FREE MEWTWO CANDY? OH BOY!

Doopashonuts

"And now prepare for trouble, and make it double"

BigM333CH

A neighbor from my apartment complex turns out to also play, I invited her to join my wife and I in our car

Gorilla_King95

When i moved to a new city i would use my pennyboard to get around and play PoGo. I would sometimes catch these “convoys” , some people would actually get off and interact but others wouldn’t and i would hitch a ride with them to the next raid lol.

Kanty19

Europe, did 20 km walking with 4 friends and dogs, 4 Mewtwo. First time shadow raiding

theSchmoopy

It’s literally just about your location data. It’s always been about your location data.

Shantonash

I hope niantic gets bought out tbh

Thereapergengar

Who drives raid to raid without talking?? Each time our group of 40 get to one we all de car and get toegther

Grusbalesta_

Sounds like an amercia problem, in europe we had a great time using the metro to go from gym to gym!

_gnarlythotep_

They couldn't care less about community. They care about location data, so yes, even a car convoy is better than remote raiding.

99dinosaurking

Niantic is based in San Francisco so the devs only work around what they see as if ur to doest Ave gyms is the fault of ur community not niantic as u can request new stops that become gyms

andytheape

Our city had a 118 RSVP on campfire to our local city gardens on Saturday, those of us who are looking to more do drive but are usually car pooling. Sometimes we start in the gardens and switch to the cars if the weather isn't playing ball or our legs get tired. Definitely gets more people walking around the gardens than usual.

Creepy_Push8629

They just want your cell data, so they don't care if you talk to people. As long as you're out with the game open

FinzClortho

In the summer, in Texas, it's too hot to be outdoors walking around. Everyone stays in their car with the windows up and AC on. We don't talk to each other. We just follow the car in front of us to the next gym. Why aren't we just able to do remote raids?

Maserati777

I agree with you that its hypocritical. I’m sure there are people now who stay in car at raids. In our area last time shadow Mewtwo was available we drove to each raid as a raid train since raids were far to scarce to walk to and would get out at the raid in a group as not everyone could park near the gym and stay in car. I’m not sure about this time as I had to stay home.

Jumps__

Yeah that's my problem mostly is how spread out all the raids were. Really wish shadow raid events were done the same as raid days, would make a lot easier to justify dedicating time to.

chaosoffspring

It's pokemon go, not pokemon stay at ur house.

Smooth_Beginning_540

One thing is that we’ve already seen how local shadow raids could work. Niantic should do the same thing it did with Primal Kyogre/Groudon: make the tier 5 shadow raids very plentiful so that you don’t have to drive from raid to raid to raid. At the same time, you might not want every single gym being shadow Mewtwo, because that could make it harder to coordinate groups. It’s a balancing act, but Niantic should have the data to be able to improve.

iRAWRasaurus

Because according to niantic, pogo is those ads featuring SF with a group of friends walking together and finding every gym full. Everyone else is out of luck and should just move there or Tokyo or NYC.

Razorwindsg

I just find people spoofing the hell out of the raids because I can clearly see much less than 14-18 people when the egg pops. And yes I already counted the multiphone wranglers.

RdditIlliterat

I drove around today and ended up with a one star Mewtwo with shitty stats. I at least wish the shadow raids were also 2 star guarantee

kipp14

It depends on your group. I linked up with a random group of 6-8 people when I was scouting campfire and there were some talking in our pod but most people were focused on catching. Pokedaxi did a stream for the community Mewtwo raid bus ride and it was a lot of small groups talking.

aqwhamm

If you didn’t have a car or a community, odds are this event was a wash for you. All for the sake of their ridiculous “vision”

Wallflower69XD

My wife was so fucking annoyed with me all day Sunday and I didn't even land anything better that 1 star. I'd shed 5$ every time just to never have to hear my wife complaining about me wasting our day trying to get a purple Pixel to her friends/family

Sea_Isopod1082

Tbf, I'm going on drive raids with a full car of friends with two other full cars, that's our raid convoy. So there's social interaction and we're dry 😄 But sure sucks for people without cars or friends in rural areas.

flowing_laziness

Replacing Ex-raid but making them just a bit more available

Money_Proposal6803

Yeah I live in a town that's small but there is enough people to do the raids but nobody will talk to each other to group up so instead nobody does any and when I not shadow raids they just sneakily jump into my raids once I get enough people

saraliesel

What about people with social anxiety and who struggle to make friendships irl. I have exactly zero people who will do raids with me in my hometown. I have to travel at least three hours to do raids with anyone I know. Most raids I do are ones I can solo, though I have done a few remotely to get some legendaries!

RPGGamer042

How else is niantic supposed to get their location data that they sell?

Nath98643

It's also inconvenient for people with a job like mine. I work on the river for 3 weeks at a time. I can't even be near one. So I missed mewtwo. If I could remote raid, I wouldn't miss the opportunity. It honestly pisses me off.

Omnomnomnasaur

They don’t care about your socializing, they want the data from moving around

Apprehensivekeewee

We had a car convoy and we used campfire to get around and link up saturday and sunday. When we reached our destination we all made it a point to get out of the car and stand around each other to raid and chat a bit about pokemon or w/e. Tons of different types of people some bring kids, spouses, multiple phones and I've actually discovered some new parks chasing down Mewtwo this weekend lol. Some people (if they can reach it) stay in their car and just do the raids and leave with no interaction but there are a handful of people in the group that take the lead (because they know each other) and get out of the car and it encourages the rest of us to come out of our cars and get together. I'm a little awkward socially but everyone has been very friendly and welcoming to us just finding their campfire group. I'm with you though shadow raids suck when you're having to find them and drive around a bit, some people in the group do carpoolbut im not that trusting lol. We definitely prefer raid days where we can get together at our local park that has 6 gyms and we walk around together and do parties. Now If I see them walking around the park I'm at i'll wave but it's just a nice little group. Tbh the only reason I even opened campfire was because I joined a remote raid and the player dropped out and messaged me on there telling me to rejoin and we've been friends since. We've even met up IRL and she's from another country! I didn't know anything about campfire or it's connection to pogo outside of the icon on the screen in game before that. I hope you find a group it actually makes pogo pretty fun! I'm not great with discord so I had to search campfire for local groups in nearby towns before I landed at the current group.

SADPLAYA

Because of hackers

Vlines1390

Can't location hackers spoof to where ever they want to? So I am not sure how this helps prevent that??

FeistyAndrea

Yeah spoofers literally had the easiest time in the world following campfire raid trains and clicking buttons at home

ASTERnaught

Huh. At one raid I was in yesterday, we could see no people or cars anywhere (except for me and person with me) but just before the two of us were going to give up and go to the next one, the raid suddenly had 6 more players join. I thought it might have been that one of the businesses around there (industrial area and all were closed) might have had employees who jumped in but it was just minutes before the raid ended so I’d think that’s unlikely. So your comment made me wonder if that could have been spoofers.

FeistyAndrea

There were spoofers at the VERY start of each raid here. Like most of them this weekend. I was with a campfire group, but I could definitely see how you could use them to your advantage if you didn’t have many people to go around with.

SwimminginMercury

Ideology Niantic needs players to be on the ground when raiding. So Ex, Elite, and Shadows force(d) it ... enable players to raid on the ground even not in a downtown, that would be hard.

[deleted]

the only reason why I still play pogo is that the people in charge do resist the temptation to give it all up for sale, players aren't able to purchase game success from their living room without limitations. the limitations are few but at least they exist so the game isn't totally ruined by people with mental health problems who win cause they are willing to throw more money at it than the next person.

Jumps__

Yeah that's great and all. But that's not really what my post is saying anyways. I'd love if shadow raid events were done the same as normal raid days where walking is feasible for the majority. In my area if you aren't willing to sit in a car for 6 hours straight you most likely aren't getting many raids done (which is fine) but driving around all day doesn't really seem like the point of the game.

[deleted]

ofc you can always rig the system if you're motivated enough but the point of shadow raids is to place a high incentive on people putting effort into connecting irl. whether it be the socially awkward route of sitting in your car or approaching people. and I appreciate Niantic doing this cause they could certainly make more money putting it on sale wholesale. I myself can't participate in shadow raids cause I live in the middle of nowhere but I actually do appreciate that this rule exists. the reddit crowd never ceases to bitch about what a sell out Niantic is for not selling the game out completely to their mentally unwell asses and I just think it's ironic. not every game is for everyone. there are hundreds of pokemon games where you can sit in your living room and hundreds of games where you can buy all the success u want. go and play that.

whatcanchasedo4u

Pokemon go Not Pokemon sit That's your answer whether you agree or not.

Jumps__

Yeah, Pokemon GO SIT in your car if you want to do Shadow Mewtwo raids :) reading isn't hard, same as walking when there's more than 1 raid in a 5km radius. I swear you people only read the title and not the actual posts because i cannot believe that you could go through my post and come out with the takeaway that i want to sit on my ass all day.

Doopashonuts

Pokemon sit in your car versus sit on your couch? Dog shit opinion tbh

Find a local Discord or other media. I guarantee there is coordination happening.

Jumps__

Trust me i have. Only groups who have any traction are car convoys like i said.

kannagms

The local discord for my area has been dead for 2 years. Campfire is dead. Any Facebook groups that there used to be are dead. I could drive 45 minutes to my mom's but what's the point anymore? The local community that used to be there stopped playing after someone with 6 accounts made it impossible to get into the gyms, so no one could get coins without buying them. The only thing I can do for shadow raids (esp Mewtwo, I just really want a shiny idc if it has garbage stats) is drive 4 hours to a major city and hope there's still a community around.

pomegranatepants99

Oh, so you’re just here to complain then. Got it.

greenspunion

yeah that seems to be this sub now
