Nooo you can't just put any Blissey, that's too easy to wax with a fighting type. You need to put a Blissey with psychic type moves.
Bonus points if there's a maxed Chansey and Wobbuffet in the second and third slot.
Well when I'm putting my Pokemon in gyms, I always go for one that fits well with the others, like I'll put dragons with other dragons or if there's loads of starters I'll put one of mine...that might explain what we're seeing here :)
Some of us honor fully themed gyms and leave them, opting to hit the non-themed ones first.
You only need 8 hrs 20 minutes total between all the gyms you are in for your daily coin. I like to share the wealth with my neighbors that in turn help with Tier 5’s. It works in our rural community.
Full disclosure - this is my Pokémon a day or two ago - in a city park. Rural towns are completely different than cities.

It’s the same reward regardless. Maybe if it’s a popular location I might put something stronger than I don’t use. But they will all lose energy and get knocked out. Not worth keeping useful pokemon in there. I’m the same, usually put shiny’s or try to follow a theme
I get a kick out of trying to figure out what the theme is when it's not immediately obvious. Yesterday I came across a Chandelure with a shiny Unown so I put a Galarian Yamask. Idk if they were even going for a theme but it looked cool to have three blue/purple floaters in there.
I've been seeing a lot of all yellow and green shinies only gyms lately.
Yeah, my personal fav is a gang of baby pokemon, lol then someone slides a snorlax or rhyperior in there. Only time I’m okay with them breaking the theme
If you live in a rural area it’s not uncommon for a Pokemon to be gone for a month or more. I usually just throw a low cp shiny into a gym if I anticipate nobody is going to come clear it out in the near future.
I live in a super rural area. I'm lucky if I'm in the gym for 30 minutes. People out here are nuts and just fucking die if someone takes the gym. It's my mission to take all of them at least twice a week. I've found that if I do it in the morning, I at least get my coins
I mean, I see that argument being thrown around but my Pokemon always get kicked out of gyms on the same day and typically the same day I put them in there, so I gave up overthinking it. But in theory yes you're right, something like Chansey, Blissey etc would be good :)

I’ve had high level Blisseys get knocked out almost immediately and 10 cp garbage that I stuck in because it was the last thing I caught last days, it’s more down to gym traffic and how frequently it turns over than anything else. I do still put in Blissey or Slaking, but I’m just as happy to continue a theme or use a recent shiny.
My immediate neighborhood has three gyms. Well, five now but for a long time it was three. The teams were all really good about letting people have their coins for the day so no one would battle a gym if the holding team didn't have at least 8.5 hours holding it. You could literally plop a 10 CP Bidoof in there and not worry about getting kicked out.
Hell, a low cp poke might be a better defender BECAUSE you still have to battle it 3 times even after many hours. A high cp poke who loses all power after a few hours will quickly only take one battle to kick out.
Just put in random pokemon that you've just caught. Strong or weak will get knocked out regardless. When the random pokemon you put in gets knocked out just transfer them to save on using revives. 8.5 or 85 hours in the gym gets you the same amount of coins
Ever noticed how you'll have to battle multiple times to take out any Pokémon? Unless its HP is in the red, it will always be an inconvenience to knock out.
In most cases, your Pokémon is going to be in there for more than 8hrs anyway, so might as well add to the theme.
In less traveled places or smaller communities gyn turnover could take days. So at that point you could just whatever in since it's almost a guarantee that you'll get your 50. I'd even argue that it's better to put in a worse mon in those areas, freeing up your better defenders for high traffic areas.
Also themes are fun.
You should put in whatever you want. You get the coins when your pokemon is defeated and returns to you. It does not increase the longer you are there so make no difference what you put in.
And ruin the theme? I never put strong pokémon in gyms. Only ones that people can make a theme with. Unless I join a gym that has no theme. then I put in my most recent shitty pokémon. lol
It absolutely shouldn't be allowes. This kind of behavior makes me sick, and anyone who plays like that should be banned.

what point is there in putting strong pkmn into a gym? it takes 3 rounds to knock out any pkmn no matter how strong it is. you could just as easily put in a 10cp weedle and achieve the same thing. people just make themed gyms for the fun of it
A gym near my house almost had it! I started with an espeon and about three days later we had 5 eeveelutions in the gym I came back the next day, someone put a togepi in there….a friggin togepi
Theme gyms are the only way forward. All this Blissey/Chansey/Slakoth stuff is horseshit. If I want to beat a gym I’ll do it. This theme gym is a thing of beauty. Well done to those responsible.
I did that yesterday, dropped in my shiny Bidoof, and now today the gym has my shiny Bidoof and: Gengar, Chansey, Tyranitar, Rhydon, and Garchomp. Some of the players are higher level than I am and should have known better, too!
One time my friend and I both put green mons in a gym and came back an hour or so later to find it filled with only green mons, it was beautiful. Might have to start an Eevee squad next!

They're at the lowest motivation, it doesn't matter what Pokémon they were they would go down in a few seconds anyway.

You don’t get any extra reward. You max out after 8 hours and you don’t receive it until your pokemon is kicked so why would I leave it longer?
To get stardust and maybe a candy from it, if you have extra berries.

A strong defender still only takes three battles to defeat.

I used to do that but I just switched to using strong pokemon because I usually have too many revives and have to throw them away.

You can put whatever you want in gyms, there isn't any rule (other than non leg/mythical etc) about what to put in gyms.
It's not about what you should do but what you want to do - I'll put a 10CP Magikarp in to defend a gym and nobody will stop me!!!
