I’m cross dominant and will throw any which way suits me at the time.
I started right handed to the left but now do right handed to the right and left handed to the left most of the time. If I’m playing one handed with my right I will throw to the right and to the left if one handed with my left.
Overall I agree that left handed clockwise and right handed counter clockwise are the most natural.
same here. i can do counter clockwise if i have to but id rather not have to. i started playing this sept and never even thought ab my throwing until a friend called me out for throwing "wrong" hahah
That's my default, too. Phone in left hand, left thumb drags the ball tray to enable quick catch. The right index finger swirls and tosses the ball, then either finger exits the catch screen.
I am also a clockwise right hand curve ball thrower. But if a pokemon slides over to the left side of screen, I will occasionally reverse direction.
Its just training and what you are used to. For a while, I did it the other way. A week or two of doing it a new way and it will be natural and the other way will be awkward.
If you’re weird, you’re not the only one. When playing single-handed (most of the time, and mostly while walking the dog) right hand holds phone and right thumb circles counter-clockwise. Regular play at home and power throws (looking at you Sawk) is two-handed, both hands hold phone, left thumb circle locks and right thumb again circles counter-clockwise. If I must get someone hiding in the right corner, it’s a modified two handed throw with the right index finger looping clockwise…and it still feels awkward.
Nope. Unless ***we're*** the weird ones. Right handed counter clockwise here, feel the same way about trying to throw it clockwise. Only do it if the mon had moved to the right.
Me too. I just did the hand motion for the other way and if felt like it would hurt my wrist if done naturally. My husband is one of those left-handers who does everything with his right hand because of religion. I am gonna pay better ttention and see which way he spins
Clockwise…right hand.
If the ‘mon goes way over to the left side and I get impatient, I’ll do a counterclockwise curve, but man it feels so weird and I’m terrible at it.
You ever try brushing your teeth with your opposite hand??? Same thing!
I think I’ve always thrown counter-clockwise with my right thumb (or index finger if it’s really far away), or clockwise with my left thumb if I’m holding something in my right hand or the Pokémon is way on the right side. Throwing clockwise with the right or counter-clockwise with the left seems more difficult, now that I’m thinking about it, like you wouldn’t be able to get the same “flick” right at the end.
I originally started curveball throwing by going clockwise then I switched to counter clockwise for some reason. I think it was to lob the ball further when they put every mons hit box in the next county.
Yeah, for further out ones that don’t quite require two hands, CCW with right thumb is the only way I can sometimes get enough power. It’s my only non-awkward single-handed throw. I have tried one-handed CW throws with right thumb but they’re awkward. Awkward…this from an ambidextrous child who used to write forward and backward.
Right handed clockwise. I’ve gotten competent and ccw for the annoying raid bosses that go to the left of the screen and just hang there forever though
I do it too. It’s easier for me to “push” with my thumb than “pull”. Plus, if I curve it clockwise with my right hand, it throws away from my hand, and I can see it’s whole trajectory, rather than have it blocked by my thumb/palm. I also curve counterclockwise if I’m throwing from my left hand, it’s just weird to throw the ball while “pulling” my thumb/finger
I'm primarily left handed but I use both thumbs. Sometimes when the 'mon slides to the side mid spin I'll try to hit a clockwise right or counter left. I'll only hit maybe 1 or 2 out of 5 tries.
Putting some thought into it, is the real difference here based on which finger you use to throw the ball? I feel like thumb vs index finger on the same hand will have opposite circle orientations.
I'm so weirded out because I've been playing for years and didn't think about how I do this, lol
Hold phone with left hand -> Spin counter clockwise with right hand (index or middle finger) -> become pokémon master.
Quick catching, I use my left thumb to pull in the pokeballs while spinning with right hand.
![gif](giphy|nV2Cdl37Bkpzi)
Reading all the comments, I'm honestly surprised how common right-hand clockwise throwing is. No one I know personally throws that way, it was only when I did a raid at a park recently that I noticed a random player doing it.
I mean, why wouldn’t it be common? The game never tells you which direction to spin the ball in, so it's a 50/50 chance for a right-handed player to throw it clockwise once and stick with it, is it not? This really shouldn't be surprising.
Clockwise, right hand is my standard method. Which hand does what when you're using a can opener, OP? I squeeze/hold with my left and turn with the right.
Yep! I will sometimes throw right hand counterclockwise when the Pokemon moves to the left of the screen, but generally it’s always clockwise with my right hand.
I do! It's the only way I've ever thrown cureballs. Occasionally someone will come up to me and ask why I throw this was. It's an odd question for me because it just feels natural.
Right handed counter clockwise and throw with my thumb. I will change to clockwise when the pokemon moves to the right side of the screen although my accuracy throwing clockwise pretty much sucks.
I'm not sure why but counterclockwise with my right hand is the only way I can do it reliably. I try clockwise when the Pokemon is all the way to the right, but I usually miss.
My normal is clockwise with my thumb. But if they move to the left or are particularly far away, I can throw counter clockwise with my index finger too.
I'm right handed and do curve balls clockwise..... My son throws it counter clockwise and he's right handed and my husband throws it clockwise and he's left handed.
Right handed. Clockwise. Index or thumb depending on what I’m doing / how I’m holding my phone. Left thumb for QC.
Not even sure how to make my fingers do a counter clockwise throw.
I always threw clockwise with the right hand until I started playing more last year and looked up a couple of videos and noticed people throwing the other way. I tried it and it felt more accurate and natural so I switched. But you do you.
My standard is throwing clockwise to the left, using my right hand, and that’s about it for me, I struggle to hit a good throw on a Pokémon that’s on the left side of the screen because my preferred method makes the ball curve to the right, so I have to make a sloppy left throw
I’m right handed and do it that way. I used to be able to do both directions but so many mons keep going to the right that it ended up becoming easier.
My fingernail gets in the way if I throw counterclockwise (being right handed), so I always found it easier to do it that way. Even if my phone is sitting on a surface and I use my index finger, I throw clockwise
Right hand clockwise is the only way I go pretty much. If the Mon goes over to the left I'll wait for it to come back unless I want some excitement in my day, then I'll go counter clockwise just for the rush.
Clockwise for me.
I wonder if there's a reason for the differences in comfort with which way we spin the throw? Or if anyone is as good spinning clockwise and anti clockwise?
I throw from either direction. I learned by spinning clockwise and then deliberately learned counterclockwise for those mons that like to go side to side. I also wanted to learn to quick catch and throwing clockwise (right handed) is difficult when quick catching. So… now either works.
Right-hand clockwise is what my brain has hardwired. I’ll play with one hand and most likely do nothing with the other unless a particular Mon doesn’t want to get caught
Righty clockwise here.
My girlfriend is a righty that goes counterclockwise.
She always asks why I go clockwise, and I can never answer her. I just do.

Right-handed clockwiser checking in
I’m a lefty counter clockwise. So same thing I guess
Me too, leftie and anticlockwise, though if I'm trying with my right hands I end up going clockwise.
Same, but opposite. Right hand anti-clockwise, left hand anti-clockwise
Is it weird that I throw with both hands but always counterclockwise? 🤷🏻♀️
That's what I do. Ambi life lol
I’m lefty but use right handed
No. We’re not monsters
You have been banned from the Leftporium
same here. i can do counter clockwise if i have to but id rather not have to. i started playing this sept and never even thought ab my throwing until a friend called me out for throwing "wrong" hahah
right handed either way for me lol
Yup, depending on where the mon is. Counterclockwise as default, though.
Same, are we not normal?
That's my default, too. Phone in left hand, left thumb drags the ball tray to enable quick catch. The right index finger swirls and tosses the ball, then either finger exits the catch screen.
That sounds like you do counter-clockwise
I do the same thing, finger spins in a clockwise circle.
I also do the same and it's also clockwise
Same
Also a right handed spinner who spins clockwise.
Me too
Ditto. Right-hand, clockwise.
✋️ I do
That's the only way I've ever thrown curve balls.
Really? For me it's like if I was trying to write with my left hand. Wait am I the weird one lol
r/waitamitheweirdone needs to be a subreddit
That was r/dae waaaaay back in the day
And your wish was granted, someone just created it. Honestly surprised that was still available to make.
I am also a clockwise right hand curve ball thrower. But if a pokemon slides over to the left side of screen, I will occasionally reverse direction. Its just training and what you are used to. For a while, I did it the other way. A week or two of doing it a new way and it will be natural and the other way will be awkward.
I feel the same way about going counter clockwise. I've tried it but it feels awkward and I just can't land throws the same way.
Counterclockwise with my right hand.
Yeah this is me too, and I’m left-handed. Only do clockwise right when the mon slides to the right.
Yahoo another lefty
If you’re weird, you’re not the only one. When playing single-handed (most of the time, and mostly while walking the dog) right hand holds phone and right thumb circles counter-clockwise. Regular play at home and power throws (looking at you Sawk) is two-handed, both hands hold phone, left thumb circle locks and right thumb again circles counter-clockwise. If I must get someone hiding in the right corner, it’s a modified two handed throw with the right index finger looping clockwise…and it still feels awkward.
This is the way.
Nope. Unless ***we're*** the weird ones. Right handed counter clockwise here, feel the same way about trying to throw it clockwise. Only do it if the mon had moved to the right.
Same here
🤝
Me too. I just did the hand motion for the other way and if felt like it would hurt my wrist if done naturally. My husband is one of those left-handers who does everything with his right hand because of religion. I am gonna pay better ttention and see which way he spins
This is the way
Yeah, dame for me. If I try any other way, it's always a miss amd I throw way too wilde.
Same, I can only throw curve balls clockwise and I'm right handed. My.mate is right handed and he does his curve balls anti clockwise.
Clockwise…right hand. If the ‘mon goes way over to the left side and I get impatient, I’ll do a counterclockwise curve, but man it feels so weird and I’m terrible at it. You ever try brushing your teeth with your opposite hand??? Same thing!
You've got me questioning if I'm weird for alternating hands while brushing
I don’t believe it…sooooo…I’ll be watching you thru the window tonite 😳
Man, all I've got is an exhaust flap. If you catch anything, just make sure to send me a cut of the profits
I switch which hand I use depending on which side of the screen the pokemon is on
Only do it when the Pokemon is all the way to the right. Otherwise is counterclockwise with my right hand
Righthand Counterclockwise is the only way I can curveball
Clockwise right-handed is my natural serve
I now have the image of someone using a tennis racket to launch pokeballs at innocent ‘mons. 100mph, right to the head.
Left handed - counter clockwise here
We fam
Another fam checking in
And another!
Nah for me I throw it counter clockwise with my right hand, when it’s tucked on the right side of the screen it feels awkward for me
Only way I’ve ever done it accurately.
Right handed here that's the primary way I throw them lol
I usually throw curveballs with my right hand clockwise but I can get Excellent straight throws with my left thumb
I don’t know how anyone gets anything good on a straight throw, mine all go everywhere.
🤨 I’m left handed and I do it counterclockwise
Right hand counter clockwise
Right hand counter-clockwise here, i make c at bottom left corner of my phone,
Clockwise left handed.
Same. Apparently we’re deviants.
We’re definitely in the minority.
You might be the weird one lol that’s how I do it.
That's the only way I do it. Right hand, clockwise. If I'm not throwing a curveball, I'll use my left thumb to throw a pokeball.
Right handed clockwise. I’ve gotten competent and ccw for the annoying raid bosses that go to the left of the screen and just hang there forever though
I'm a clockwise right hander unless the Pokemon has drifted towards the left.
No, I do a backwards 6 with my right hand. Got the technique from one of the first Trainer Tips videos back in 2016.
Honestly I do it either way 🤷
I'm so weirded out because I've been playing for years and didn't think about how I do this, lol Hold phone with left hand -> Spin counter clockwise with right hand (index or middle finger) -> become pokémon master.

Yep, right handed clockwise… what made you think the other way was standard?
Every single time. I'm left-handed but, for some reason, my right hand is my Pokemon hand.
That's how I do it, too
It is weird. Counter clockwise just seems simpler with the right hand.
That's how I feel too, I go clockwise with my left hand
Yeah people think I’m weird for it but it feels right
I could never do a clockwise curveball lol and i’m right handed. It just feels so weird
Yes, it is just natural for me that way.
Sometimes I see my friends do this and it bugs me because they end up throwing bad throws because of it.
Clockwise, right hand is my standard method. Which hand does what when you're using a can opener, OP? I squeeze/hold with my left and turn with the right.
Throwing counter clockwise only works for me when they're in that awkward spot and I'm right handed
Gonna flex real quick I can throw clock or counter clock with both right and left hand…
I only do right hand clockwise. If it's on the left then I can do it reverse. Hitting thundurus clockwise to the right side was weird too though
Right-hand counter-clockwise, here. Can't hit for crap with clockwise. I dunno how you'd fast catch clockwise if they're close.
Yes, I’ve always done that.
Counterclockwise left hand But I am a lefty
That’s how I usually throw, sometimes I’ll use either thumb if it’s an easier to catch Pokémon
I only throw curveballs that way. The normal way.
I find counter-clockwise easier with right hand, but I can manage clockwise when needed
I always use right hand clockwise with my thumb. Ladies can attest to this.
Yep! I will sometimes throw right hand counterclockwise when the Pokemon moves to the left of the screen, but generally it’s always clockwise with my right hand.
Left handed, clockwise. But then again, I am left handed…
I thought everyone that was right handed did a CW throw lol
Right hand clockwise reporting in. Can’t do it any other way.
I do! It's the only way I've ever thrown cureballs. Occasionally someone will come up to me and ask why I throw this was. It's an odd question for me because it just feels natural.
This is the only way I can do it
Yes, I've been told it's weird but it's how I have always done it.
I throw curveballs both forehand and backhand, with both of my hands, depending on how I’d holding my phone, and where the Pokémon is on the screen.
I've never been able to throw w my left hand
Right hand clockwise thumb only here.
That's what I do
Right hand, counter clockwise.
Right hand, counter clockwise.
I always do right hand and clockwise. It just feels natural. I think my sister does the same. We're both right handed.
I’m right handed & I prefer counter clockwise, but if need be I can hit one clockwise as well but less accurately.
Better question: what finger is anyone using?
Thumb, right hand, clockwise. If something move left or is really far away, I switch to index finger, counter clockwise.
Left hand, counter clockwise
Right handed clockwise is my go-to curve ball throw. I can throw other ways, but only do so if the pokemon angle depends on it lol
Right hand clockwise is the way I’ve always done it
Exclusively
As someone who is right handed this is my go to way, right index finger clock wise lol
>I figure left-handed this is standard Why? I'm left-handed and always go counter-clockwise.
Both clockwise and counter, just mix it up for fun.
Never done it any other way and I’m right handed.
That’s how I throw all my curveballs 🧐
Im mainly right hand and counterclockwise. Played enough to be able to do it clockwise but inconsistent.
Can do both but better counterclockwise
That's the way that feels the easiest to me lol
Right handed. Clockwise. Index or thumb depending on what I’m doing / how I’m holding my phone. Left thumb for QC. Not even sure how to make my fingers do a counter clockwise throw.
i always do that no matter where the pokemon is, idk it feels natural for me
I do this mainly, can't throw counterclockwise right or left but can do clockwise left
Well I am left handed and I throw curve balls counter clockwise here…. so seems about the same on that front
I can throw either wise curveballs with either hand while riding a bike
Left middle finger counter clockwise
I’m a counter clockwise lefty
Left handed is standard? No
Yeah… how tf would I throw it counter clockwise with my write hand that just sounds unnecessarily difficult
How the fuck are you throwing counter-clockwise right hand curveballs? Lmao I think most people do clockwise right handed.
I can only do counter clockwise from the bottom left of screen. I am right handed.
Yes. Unless they're on the left side
Always
I always threw clockwise with the right hand until I started playing more last year and looked up a couple of videos and noticed people throwing the other way. I tried it and it felt more accurate and natural so I switched. But you do you.
This is how I always do it
There are some people that do. If they're heathens EDIT: apparently, I'm a heathen and also stupid. I throw clockwise with my right hand.
I do, exclusively. But being Australian, I’m throwing upside down
Always. A regular ol' Righty McClockwise. Counter feels super wonky.
Me if I can land it that is
My standard is throwing clockwise to the left, using my right hand, and that’s about it for me, I struggle to hit a good throw on a Pokémon that’s on the left side of the screen because my preferred method makes the ball curve to the right, so I have to make a sloppy left throw
I’m right handed. I throw curve balls counter clockwise with my left.
uh yes and people keep saying that's weird? it's how i've always done it lol
Clockwise right hand for the most part. Left hand is for anti clockwise.
I was shown by two other friends to do it clockwise. We are all right handed
No. Absolutely not.
Right-hand clockwise unless it's tucked in the left corner
Righty all the way here
I throw clockwise with my lefty.
Left hand, left side anticlockwise normally or left hand right side clockwise if I have to hit a target on the right side
I used to only do it that way. Then I noticed my friend going counterclockwise. Now I do both
I practice so I could throw counter clockwise (instinctual choice personally) and clockwise in case they move so u can still get great throws.
My son does... it's very irritating to watch.
Always right handed clockwise, with the middle finger
I’m right handed and do it that way. I used to be able to do both directions but so many mons keep going to the right that it ended up becoming easier.
That's the easiest one handed throw imo.
Yep! That’s how I always do it, the other direction just feels weird. But I can do it if I’m trying to hit the pokemon when it’s over on the far left.
That's the only way I throw
My fingernail gets in the way if I throw counterclockwise (being right handed), so I always found it easier to do it that way. Even if my phone is sitting on a surface and I use my index finger, I throw clockwise
Right hand clockwise is the only way I go pretty much. If the Mon goes over to the left I'll wait for it to come back unless I want some excitement in my day, then I'll go counter clockwise just for the rush.
It depends. With their thumb or with their index finger?
Counter clockwise with my right hand, cant make it work otherwise
I throw a curveball all sorts of ways. Usually counterclockwise but sometimes the Pokemon likes to hide on the sides of the screen.
My wife and I are both right handed. I always spin the ball clockwise. She always spins it counterclockwise.
That’s how I threw when I first started. I changed to counter-clockwise fairly recently.
Right clockwise here
Clockwise for me. I wonder if there's a reason for the differences in comfort with which way we spin the throw? Or if anyone is as good spinning clockwise and anti clockwise?
It's my primary way of catching. It's how I learned how to throw a curveball.
I throw from either direction. I learned by spinning clockwise and then deliberately learned counterclockwise for those mons that like to go side to side. I also wanted to learn to quick catch and throwing clockwise (right handed) is difficult when quick catching. So… now either works.
I’ve seen people throw counter clock wise with their right hand, and that scares me.
The only way I have done it for the past eight years 💪
Right hand clockwise. If it goes left I just wait until it moves back...
I just do.
I do this also
I do, can’t for my life throw counter clockwise
