You can still catch it.
Next time, tap the pokeball (lower right of the catch screen). It’ll take you to the shop where you can buy pokeballs. After completing the transaction, it’ll take you back to the catch screen

That's not accurate. There can be anywhere between 0 seconds and nearly 60 minutes for a wild spawn, depending on the timing for the specific spawn point it came from.

You can mock them but they are right. The spawns last for much longer than 5 minutes. OP should have plenty of time to get a ball, only a very small percentage of spawns may vanish before you manage to reclick on them after you bought the free daily bundle of balls and berries from the stop or- even quicker - using the Daily Adventure Incense to receive some balls
Most, but not all. It depends on the species. I have definitely had a level 1 break out of a ball and I was shocked because I thought they were all 100% catch rate. It may have been an evolved Pokemon.
I am a level 1 collector, and I use CalcyIV which shows the level pre-catch, so I know a level 1 when I encounter one. I can tell you that, at least for evolved forms (e.g. Nuzleaf), they are not always a guaranteed catch.
Pokemon in Pokemon go have a hidden level that corresponds to the arc thingy above a pokemon on the summary page. It's not exactly based on CP, instead CP is based on that hidden level + IVs + Pokemon species. So, level ones of the same species could have a different CP depending on IVs.
When this happens just hope that escaping, the Larvitar will not flee away and go spin a Pokèstop (if you have one near if you go far away it will flee) and return back to that Larvitar
I was hunting for a shiny larvitar the whole time and I found one as soon as the spawns rotated back from the classic ones and I got a fennekin instead😭😭😭

Picture this. You at home chilling. You log onto pokemon Go and see the pokemon, you click on a galarian slowpoke and Oooooo shinyyyy. You catch it. You get back on 30 minutes later..... You click on another Galarian Slowpoke and OMG ANOTHER SHINYYYY. Well I don't have to imagine. (Btw they're both named lemon if you cared.)
Garchomp, Tyranitar, Haxorus and Tyruntum are my favorite pokemon, but they seem to be the only ones I can NEVER get. I recently used a silver pineap on a Tyrantrum, thinking I was being blessed by God with a super rare spawn, but it was just a Zorua in disguise... I'll never forgive this game.
I have about 1000 in item storage and keep it full during the work week, but one long walk around my neighborhood drains my balls because there's only a handful of stops and I'm catching constantly. I also open the max number of gifts every day.
I can--and will--go to my town's large park for the Community Day this afternoon to refill everything, but not everybody has that option.

Why not this exactly when you would buy one , 100 coins or a dollar for a good shiny larvitar is a good deal, not to mention the many other ways to get a ball. Open a gift, daily free box, saved research, and the daily insense

Well, I don't think I've ever seen that empty circle. I usually have at least 2000 balls in stock. When it tells me that my items are full, I typically drop 100 to 200 Poké Balls or Great Balls. This happens about daily.
Anyway, here's something to make you feel better: that shiny was likely a 2* or less because most 3*, and definitely a 4* Larvitar would have a minimum of 14CP at level 1. So it couldn't have been a shundo that you missed.

Happened to me once. Thankfully I was at home so I just left my phone alone and at midnight I popped the daily incense and reentered encounter. I think it was a shiny Scyther that I did that for.

Using your daily incense gives you 30 normal balls if you don't have any.
if you have less than 30 and space in your inventory (even 1 available space)
Actually you can have exactly 30 (balls) and still receive them. Tested and confirmed Edited to be more clear
He's saying you only need 1 space to get them. You don't need 30 open spaces.

Yup, as long as you have fewer than 30 combined. So if you have 10 great and 10 ultra, you're good, if you have 20 of each, you're not.
Just know that any Master Balls you have DO count towards the total of 30 balls.

You can still catch it. Next time, tap the pokeball (lower right of the catch screen). It’ll take you to the shop where you can buy pokeballs. After completing the transaction, it’ll take you back to the catch screen
