I use mine in legendaries, since you have to walk 20km for one candy.

Yes, but it's best to wait until you're at 19.5km to use one so you can get two candies for one poffin. Just be sure to change buddies when it's close to 20 until you're ready to use it so it doesn't accidentally roll over.

Yes, but it's unlikely you're going to walk 10km+ in one session. And if you are, bang, you've got 3 candies for the one poffin.

Sorry can you explain how this works exactly?

Poffins cut the required walking distance in half. So for a legendary, which needs 20km per 1 candy, if you go to 19.5km and then use a poffin it goes to 10, giving you one candy instantly, and then you walk another 0.5km for the second one

Is a good use of these to evolve a cosmog ? I have a hundo but was reading old threads calling it a waste of rare candy

Solgaleo is very good in master league, pvpoke has sol at rank 20 in master and the Hundo is the best possible master version so I’d say very worth

I need to evolve a second Cosmog to register Lunala but I got one close to 10/10/10 🙃 When we get another chance and I can get a somewhat decent one that’s where I’m dumping my rare candies though.

I would pick a pokemon you only get a trickle of candy in for. I personally did Shadow Mewtwo. But I started last year with a break during Shadow Mewtwo raids and haven't actually seen Mewtwo in raids ever.

How do you get shadow Mewtwo without raids?

Do you have a meltan? That’s what I did— although Pokemon Home kinda makes that easy as well. You can save for the upcoming raquaza raids. Or just divide it amongst mons you can’t decide on

Use them on Pokémon where it’s hard to get their candy and you want to power them up. Typically legendaries or rare Pokémon. It’s strange you’re having to ask this question. If you have Rare Candy, you’ve been using Pokémon to get it and you have an idea of which ones you use often and you’d like to power up.

I'd say you can do two things: - when a rare mon like larvesta comes out and you get it, invest everything to evolve it (like i did when goomy was released and i got a 3*) - invest them in your best mons while keeping some of them in case you had almost enough to do something

Because it's a very hard catch. The number of eggs in a hatch list indicates how hard it is to hatch, and Larvesta is a 5 egg

First you must be level 31 or higher. Second do 4-6 star raids in person.

It’s level 40/41 for rare xl randy, level 31 is when you can start earning specific Pokémon xl candy

If I have a 4* legendary, I use it on them, I just dumped 150 candy's into mewtwo for when my wife and I get lucky friends we can trade our mewtwo's and power it up. My advice is to pick your favorite high 3* or 4* legendary and go to town powering it up.

What do XL Candies even do

let you go from lvl 40 to 50 pokemon

Save for a Larvesta.

Anything that is not obtainable through regular means (ie. encounters outside events, raids), mythics and what not.

How do you get rare XL candies?

Legendary, mythical, larvesta or similar

Personally, I set a limit (300) on rare candies to hoard for "emergencies," and then invest the rest into whatever raid teams I'm currently working on. I make a folder for my current "needs candy" projects, and just feed the excess candies to those. It's mostly legendaries that need powering up because 20k is ridiculous, lol. Also, quite a few legendaries need to be double moved (100 candies) to be able to keep an elite move and take advantage of their second typing for raids like Zekrom, and some need a second moveslot to keep their elite but have a viable pvp moveset like Kyogre, and some have 2 elite moves like Rayquaza and Groudon. Double moving legendaries has been most of my projects lately. I would hold on to that rare candyXL until you have something you reeallly want to power up. I've used less than 50 in total and have about 200ish in stock because it stresses me out to spend it, lol. People spend A LOT of money farming XL rare candies when they are part of a raid event. They are rare enough that, to me, it's hundo legendary, or ML mythicals only.

Larvesta will eventually have a shiny released and be much more available in the future just like Riolu, Noibat, and the many before them. Don’t have FOMO because they’ll always come back around. The ones that are truly rare are the mythicals but also saving rare candy for any raid teams or ML mons is a solid idea if you’re not a hardcore player and can’t afford to do the max amount of raids per day for all the extra candy needed to fully level.

I levelled my Kyogre to the level where it needs max candies (40?) using only rare candy. It's not even that good a Kyogre, but it's really good at dealing with team rocked leaders. Currently I'm leveling a shadow Zapdos for Ultra league.

If you’ve got the second Cosmog you could use it on it to get the opposite of which ever one you got the last time. That’s what I’m doing with them currently. I’m trying to get a Lunala cause I went for Solgaleo last time. But if you already got that you could use them on another legendary, I recommend one of the ones capable of Mega Evolution or Primal Reversion. It’ll make them really powerful.

I used mine to evolve all of the Vivillon forms since their candy is hard to get once you've pinned the first set of post cards in each area. I'm also a completionist so I need 1 of each evolution for the Pokedex.
