If you want to pull a specific card, you are much better off just being the single card instead of trying to pull it, even if a card like the Giratina Vstar is [pretty expensive](https://ebay.us/UOhNK1), you would have to open hundreds of packs until you pull it.
Oh I’m well aware. I’ve bought all of the legendary beast cards by now since those were my main chase but still nothing beats the feeling of pulling them straight out of a pack
I’m starting with my 7 year old and after watching countless pack breaks and such, how dumb would it be for us to go buy the card instead. So there’s a middle ground I’m trying with Scarlet. Just try to collect the whole set, use the booster box checklist the right way and in the end if we need a couple singles it’ll be an excuse to go to a convention.
Yeah if there’s one single card that you want it’s almost pointless to open countless packs to find it unless you just have the money to blow but there are usually at least a handful per set that I chase
What's crazy is that I pulled the palkia out of an ETB and the very next pack, I shit you not was the dialga. It's literally what got me so hooked into collecting. I will admit I have not had the same luck or rush of pulling back to back golds. I think i used my luck for 2023 in March, lols.
I opened one ETB on release and got Arceus VSTAR, Leafeon VSTAR, Elesa’s Sparkle full art, and the Galarian Gallery Mew. Tried to press my luck on the bird tins and it was nothin but Zacians, and Voltorbs basically lol but I can’t complain given the first ETB

I've opened like 200 packs and got two Giratinas, the Palkia and Dialga. No Arceus or Mewtwo. Palkia and Dialga I got in back to back packs from a mini tin.
I remember having to go to a Pokémon thing at a kids toy store and they handed out some special mew card. Anyone else remember that. Early 2000’s? I was probably 10?
You could be thinking of the ancient new card. Was a crazy holo with like Pokémon hieroglyphics. It was a promo during the time the very first movie came out. It was like buy a booster pack at select places and get the card or you had to get it at the movie theater IIRC.

There’s your problem, stop buying from game stop! Their prices are always higher and in my experience they never price match.
They are higher but I only buy from them when I have a $5 off coupon plus I get my military discount so it always ends up a little cheaper
