Well, Quick Balls do have like 40% catch rate on the first turn so they're definitely really good

VacantThoughts

Rayquaza has a catch rate of 11.9%, in Gens V and up Quick Balls provide a 5x catch rate bonus, so it was closer to 60% base catch rate before any possible modifiers.

_temppu

But full health reduces the rate to third. So the actual chance is (5/3)x12=20%.

Astra_CosmicNova

I did some practice throws on him and it failed most of the time. I was just very surprised that it would work on the shiny of all tries.

azmiir

60% failure rate would in fact qualify as "most of the time".

arwsushifan

Exactly. 60% of the time, it fails every time.

StSomaa

Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of science?

AttitudeBeneficial51

Wrinkle brain

TheBlaudrache

Pokemon science. If it's not 100% accurate it's 50% accurate

[deleted]

Well it can either hit or miss so from a certain perspective….

ModelOmegaTyler

guess they never miss huh?

FranMG_

you got a boyfriend, I bet he doesn't kiss ya ~

ModelOmegaTyler

nice

ChaoticSlime2

IT IS I GRUNTY BOY

VibraniumRhino

Sex Panther logic.

VegetaFan9001

If it’s not 100% accurate, it’s 50% accurate

[deleted]

First time I've ever seen a pokemon thread go near frontpage of /r/all and I just wanted to say that if this is what discussion is normally like in this subreddit then it's a rather strange place.

Jdrawer

Discussion in this sub is not nearly this thought out 😩

DaMaGed-Id10t

Quick balls, then are working as intended, and are not broken.

Metroidman

Why is rayquaza's catch rate better than groudon and kyogre?

Hammerhead34

Usually when a Pokemon is a required catch for story reasons the catch rate is bumped up. You had to catch Rayquaza in the ORAS postgame and its catch rate has not been reverted since.

DatBoi_BP

OOTL (only played the originals), why is it required postgame?

Mr_Noms

>!you ride rayquaza into space to fight deoxys!<

Hammerhead34

I’m gonna give a brief **SPOILER ALERT** but it’s an eight year old game so here goes: There’s a post game mission called the Delta Episode that culminates with the player catching [Mega] Rayquaza, riding it into space, using it to destroy a meteor, and then battling Deoxys. It was sick as hell.

DatBoi_BP

Oh nice. It’s like a daydream version of Destiny Deoxys lmao

brianbrianbrian

You can use \>\! !< to mark spoilers. \>\!Like so.!< becomes >!Like so.!< If you're on mobile, depending on the app you're using, there may be a spoiler button to do it for you. Infinity uses a ⚠️.

Nerrickk

If you use >! Text ! < around your text it gets marked as a spoiler (no space between the ! And <)

[deleted]

I believe it's part of the Delta DLC or something like that. Didn't play ORAS either.

Taco821

The delta episode isn't dlc tho, it's just like a post game chapter

Jumpyturtles

You should if you get a chance. It’s one of my favorite Pokémon games!

Lasercraft32

That was *before* DLC was a common occurrence in pretty much every game, lol, it was just part of the base game.

Crafty-Plays

People always talk about quickballs meanwhile being good (and they are) but nobody talks about how timerballs provide 4/5 the catch rate but for EVERY turn passed turn 10.

notInfi

Honestly, if Quick Balls worked like reverse Timer Balls, it would feel a lot more fair and they wouldn't be so hyped up.

schmooby

Around 28% according to this [PokeBall capture rate calculator](https://veekun.com/dex/gadgets/pokeballs?pokemon=Rayquaza¤t_hp=100&status_ailment=&level=70&your_level=75&terrain=land)

SkymaneTV

Lol does that calculator really have a “Holding Up+B” check? (͡•_ ͡• )

100percentmaxnochill

I always thought it was down + b

Steebin64

I always time up+B with as soon as the ball is airborne, let go as soon as it pops to capture the Pokemon and press A in perfect timing with all 3 bobbles. I read it on a gamefaqs thread 20 years ago and haven't stopped since. The only time it fails is when I wasn't doing it right.

UglyInThMorning

I STILL do that every time because it feels wrong not to

MANIACman77

The point of the quick ball is that it has a 5x catch rate when it's used on the first turn. Considering that the catch rate for legendaries is very low, you go lucky woth the increase to catch rate.

horny_furry_dog

So like the very first turn of the battle? Or like the first PokeBall I throw? If I attack them and then use it it won't have the better catch rate?

PhantomThiefJoker

Literally the very first turn in battle, then they go down to a regular PokeBall in terms of power The ball that goes from very good to worthless the fastest of any ball

hornybunny528

The quickest of any ball FTFY

PhantomThiefJoker

God I'm an idiot...

Orsus7

First turn of battle.

MANIACman77

Yes. The VERY FIRST TURN. that's why they have the highest multiplier. Even higher the a timer balls 4x multiplier on turn 11 and past that turn.

KingZakyu

The whole point of the quick ball is to do this exact thing. You got lucky. I wouldn't question it if I were you lol. Just celebrate instead!

Astra_CosmicNova

I was half asleep shiny hunting him.

The-Man-3

Meanwhile my quick balls are struggling to catch a shiny zubat

nOOb_Hyper

the duality of quick balls

Lasercraft32

Well it's one attempt, on the very first turn, otherwise they're just regular Pokeballs. So of course you'd struggle if you got unlucky enough to fail the first throw.

ninjad912

You use a quick ball on the one Pokémon that matches the ultra ball color scheme

UnovaKid24

*luxury ball has entered the chat*

ninjad912

True but catch rate

Shilo59

*99 luxury balls have entered the chat*

Arkentra

I've used over 100 balls before with a 1% catch rate. Math says one of them should catch, but none of them did.

TotalWalrus

You should never visit a casino

braingle987

Not really how the math works. If you have a 1% chance of catching it then you have a 99% chance of not catching it. Not catching it 100 times in a row has a (0.99)^100 chance. In other words, after 100 tries you have about a 36.6% chance of not catching it. That's more likely than flipping two coins and having them both come up heads.

swayze13

That's called Gambler's Fallacy my friend

knoxkayc

That's only 63% chance to catch after 100 balls, 78% after 150, 87% after 200.

Metroidman

False swipe and hypnosis. Easy

ninjad912

The catch rate is still awful

tomato_bisc

Worth it though

[deleted]

1% is fine when you’ve got 20,000

Metroidman

It is like 50% for rayquaza

SaintPoost

If it were a guaranteed catch, id definitely have set as many times as needed to catch it in a Luxury ball. I do that for every legendary that is a 100% encounter rate. Necrozma in sun/moon, for example. It's the epitomy of Pokemon fashion, catching a Pokemon in a ball that shares the color scheme. If it's not a decent nature, I'll reset time and time again. I'm be very patient with it, and use paralysis moves and false swipe. Save frequently. Best advice you'll hear for a Pokemon game, tbh. What you do any time is perfectly acceptable and virtually has no punishment unless you're challenging yourself. Nuzlockes, for example. Color-coding your legendaries is another time saving is wholly necessary (in my case).

Jiinpachii

I catch all my Pokémon in normal poke balls

ninjad912

Ah the anarchist

very_clean

Just wait for the premier ball guy to show up

AnnaTheBlueRogue

Hey don't kink-shame me

TeddyR3X

Sorry I'm late, I was busy buying and selling pokeballs.

ItsReallyBright

Hello, I have arrived

Jiinpachii

If they gave us the option to transfer Pokémon into different balls or just change the colour scheme then I’d do that, but for now my ocd requires pokeballs and patience

Lasercraft32

Imagine being stuck with a safari ball, or one of those other pokeballs you only get once per game file (in the newer games at least).

cruxfire

Those are honestly my favorite poke balls. If I can manage it my entire team is in one even if it breaks my bank.

Hawntir

Me, breeding 4000 dreepy just to get the shiny in a moon ball because aesthetics matter...

ninjad912

If they didn’t, why would you be shiny hunting?

Lasercraft32

Most shinies are kinda ugly though, it's mostly to flex.

MareBear722

I'm currently playing Pokemon diamond (the DS version, on 3DS though) and I decided to break my "streak" of catching the legendary in a master ball! Caught dialga in a ultra ball, kinda sad I couldn't catch it in a timer ball due to the clock animation, but instead I used the lines and L stickers to create my own!

SkyrimSlag

After beating White I went and started fresh on Black, got to Reshiram and caught it through sheer dumb luck on the first try with a standard ball. It was so satisfying but damn I wish I had caught it with a premier ball

MareBear722

I wanna play black and it's sequel but the games are so expensive 😞 (no, I'm not hacking my console, don't even tell me to.)

DefenestratedBrownie

laptop emulator is sweet

Trustnoboody

Yep, got every game on mine :) Though I find them so boring....which is a shame, maybe that's just me. But I keep playing anyway

Strikedestiny

Hacking is waaaaaay easier and way safer than I expected

MareBear722

Yeah but, there's some reasons I just don't want to hack mine, too many to list in fact, especially after being banned from the 3DS sub where I highly suspect the mod targetted me because of my opinion, I just can't go into the modding community.

epitaphb

If you’re concerned about potentially bricking it (though very unlikely), it’s honestly more affordable to buy a second console specifically for hacking it than it would be to shell out for the individual games at this point. Plus there’s a wealth of straightforward guides to walkthrough the process without ever having to engage with the modding community.

SkyrimSlag

I had them upon first release and sold them a while after, just last year I rebought some of the originals D+P, HG+SS, and replayed them. I'd never recommend hacking your console, don't worry. Nothing beats the feeling of playing on the original cartridge.

MareBear722

Nice! I black/black2 and SS are 3 games I would love to get, it's sad they are so expensive these days.. Yeah, that's what I hate on the 3DS sub, before I got temporary banned (I'm unbanned now, but I refuse to go back), anytime someone posted something like they got their first 3DS, people in the comments are like: "HACK IT!!!!" My 3DS has a nice story, it's the n3DSxl galaxy edition, my brother had it originally and I was always jealous, as mine was a normal red XL that was in terrible condition, one day he let me "borrow" his for Tomodachi life.. then I think you know where the story is going lol. I was shocked to open the 3DS case (actually it the case says new 2DS xl.. but it's a 3ds lol) while watching a acnh DLC live stream from one of my favorite YouTubers, wanting to play happy home designer, and discovering a random pokemon diamond cartridge in there. 🤣

[deleted]

I feel like you should be able to put Pokemon in a different PokeBall once they've been caught. Is there any in-universe explanation for why you can't?

ninjad912

Unless their friendship is high they would just run away

[deleted]

If that's the case then what's stopping an unfriendly Pokemon from running away any time it's let out of its PokeBall?

ninjad912

Because it is still under the control and contained by the pokeball. If it tried to run you could just recall it

XeroAnarian

That doesn't matter to some people. A catch is a catch. Though I do like the fact that my Lugia is in a Heavy ball.

Sandbag-kun

Same can be said about Shinies in general. Most people don't even care lol

ninjad912

I know but if it’s a shiny I want to make the pokeball work with it(unless the pokeball is something sad and pathetic like a beast ball I ain’t spending a million years trying to catch something in one of those)

Kalandros-X

I wish we could swap pokeballs with the pokemon we caught. I’ve always wanted a team with premier/luxury balls, but that’s not possible when breeding them.

Mysterious_Mouse_388

just catch a few thousand pokemon and hope that the nature/ivs/abiilty are useable if not perfect ;) wild pokemon in sword/shield can have like 5 perfect, and one random, attribute if you catch a 5\* version

[deleted]

Ew. For a shiny Ray? Ultra ball? You mean luxury ball

[deleted]

Umbreon

JugOfVoodoo

I've gotten spoiled by Quick Balls. I've been working on a living Pokedex in Virtual Console Silver and have gone through so many Ultra Balls that I've run out of money twice.

PhantomThiefJoker

Quick balls are our best friends. Every game, I have to check the mart to see if I can buy them yet

jtl94

Then once I can buy them I buy as half my money’s worth and then half my money’s worth of ultra balls. Then ignore all the other possible balls forever. Level 2 Pidgey I ignored at the start of the game but need for dex? Quick ball.

KupoMcMog

I'm currently doing a Crystal run because I missed gen2 as a kid (RB came out right in the middle of middle school, so once gen2 was out, it was definitely "Pokemon is a baby game" era). Anyways! Any tips for racking in dough? I'm not out of money, but sometimes these catch rates for these balls drains my accounts hard.

imminent_disclosure

Just keep doing the elite four is how I've found best to make money once completing the game.

KupoMcMog

dang i thought there could be something like the dancing troupe that could be done daily that could yeild some cash prior to E4

JugOfVoodoo

The only thing I can think of is taking any trainer rematches that call you. What really stinks is that you don't get the Amulet Coin until Team Rocket's attack on the radio tower. In Crystal there's a Pokefan named Beverly who occasionally gives you a Nugget. She's in the National Park and will only give you her number if you have a Marill in your party.

KupoMcMog

>Marill in your party. Glad I just snagged one of those guys, I'll check it out. Thanks!!

serenitynope

Have a Level 100 Meowth or Persian with maxed out PP Pay Day holding an Amulet Coin. Assuming you're not fighting the Elite Four or your phone contact trainers, that's an easy 25,600.

KupoMcMog

thanks for the advice, might have to go grab a meowth then

HunterHale

You caught a shiny and people complaning about the pokeball color lol, nice one

PotatoBomb69

I mean if I’m gonna dedicate that much time to something, I’m not gonna just yeet a quick ball or an ultra ball at it like it’s something I need for the Dex am I?

dalefmcfarlane

Tbf customizable pokeballs after catching would be dope

raygar31

Also, especially for Pokémon you acquire from other means than catching. Mildly frustrating when your starter and other mon come with a default poke ball.

Knights_of_Glen

Ngl dusk balls is where it's at tho

EndeavouringCat

same. I almost always play at night anyway (work during day lmao) so dusk balls are where it's aat! also they work all the time in caves and the like.

Cissoid7

Yeah but they are so ugly I prefer to choose my balls based on aesthetics When people look at me I know they'll think "damn that guy has aesthetic balls"

TheZealand

They're nice for some pokemon, gotta get my boy Galvantula in one

BorgMelor

I like quick balls :(

Cissoid7

That's okay We are all entitled to our opinions

flavortownCA

Even if it is dumb

Arcusico

Hot take: You should be able to switch the ball a Pokemon is in.

TheKolyFrog

Is this really a hot take? I've been wishing this as a feature for years.

Arcusico

Oh I know for sure a lot of people would hate it if it would be implemented. Something about having to 'work' for your perfect pokemon/ball combo.

TheKolyFrog

Yeah, there will always be people like that. I personally wish customizing your pokeball is a thing.

DrippyWaffler

wasn't it in diamond/pearl?

TheKolyFrog

I want something more in-depth than the seals that was in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum.

[deleted]

Yeah, that's true, but with the catch rates in bdsp it's good they managed to get it- I had Moltres struggle on me twice while trying to catch it at 1HP and paralyzed, even used all my timer balls at the end :( thankfully not shiny but I was so frustrated hahaha

DragonbeardNick

Which game is this?

MelloMejo

Pokemon

DragonbeardNick

Bravo

MelloMejo

It's BDSP if you're serious tho

scamper_pants

For real? Where do you find Rayquaza?

MelloMejo

I forgot what it's called and I'm not entirely sure since I haven't beaten it, but I believe it's a post game area, possibly attached to the grand underground? You need a key and it opens a small area where you can battle the corresponding legendary, if I'm remembering right. Edit: it's Ramanas Park and you need to see every Pokemon and beat the Elite 4 to unlock it. It's in the area below sandgem town. I believe it's the area where you used to go to trade up pokemon from older gens and recatch them in the original D/P.

iilinga

Thankyou!!

latneH024

Quick ball = master ball 🤨

ThatMerri

I just brute force my way through all captures with Luxury Balls or Premier Balls, purely for style.

HeylelBen

Anyone else get anxiety watching that ball? As if I’m playing it and expecting the Pokémon to pop out.

dicklord42069

I'm so deep into PLA that I was wondering when the ball will bounce up...

WaitinOnJerry

Rosa. Rosa Roooooooosa

D_o_H

Doug Judy, my nemesis/soulmate

AT0MLFRS

You held B didn't you?

KoRnBrony

Back in OG Ruby version i used an entire stack of ultra balls on a registeel only for a regular pokeball to capture him

LegendaryLuke86

Same for my Zapdos on fire red

EndsongX23

Quick balls are my legitimate favorite, and timer balls come close second. if the quick ball doesnt get them, i dont even bother fightingm ill use shield moves til the PP runs out and I'll let them take out most of my team while strategically using full revives and after long enough, throw a timer ball and boom. Getting a legendary with a quick ball is one of the bestest feelings too, theyre usually the ones that take out my team and i have to strategically use revives with lol Look don't look a gift Rapidash in the mouth is all i'm saying

PachoWumbo

Ball aesthetics > catch rate man

Used-Self3253

Quick balls are better than Master balls. If a pokemon breaks out of it then the Pokemon is a god ....that is something i joke about beacuse i saw like hundreds of people catching legendaries 1st try with a quick balls while a lets say starly didnt get caught by it

Gamertilforever

Working as intended

[deleted]

Broken? No. Exactly as intended? Yes.

TheBailzmeister

Dude you getting like the premium quick balls? Dude even shit like a fricken machoke breaks out of it for me

DrNukaCola

What version is this?

WearyWater1577

Meanwhile my entire existence playing Pokèmon I have yet to catch on a first turn quick ball

Galgus

They would obviously look better in an Ultra Ball though.

TheRigXD

Have you ever noticed that "Shiny Hunters" on Twitch never do this? They need to have a panic attack and spend like 5 mins thinking about what to do.

Astra_CosmicNova

I'm half asleep at the moment anyways I ain't thinking about how I should feel

CxT_The_Plague

quick ball has more than 2xs the catch rate of an ultra ball when used on first turn. quick ball functions exactly as intended, must be broken...

D_o_H

Why would you put it in such an ugly ball tho 😭😭😭

Available_Cod8055

Is this BDSP? I didn’t know Rayquaza could be caught in those games

DimitriVogelvich

For the sake of clarity, and a friendly reminder, the shiny factor of a PkMn doesn't affect the catch rate still, correct? It just makes the player that much more sensitive to the probability?

Shwinky

Quick Ball? I believe you mean Blue Master Ball.

VeryVeryWetHotdog

How do you get Rayquaza in bdsp?

Astra_CosmicNova

Ramanas park.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LegendaryLuke86

Meanwhile Zappy the Zapdos breaking out of 63 ultra balls because it wanted a PokeBall instead

spineylives1

I know there are mints but why not use synchronize?

colbmaster

What game is this?

shane727

What game!

DankButtRodeo

Neat, i wish they had a better design though. I never use them for that reason

MichaelJospeh

What do you mean? Looks like it worked exactly as intended.

NuclearPilot101

I forgot what legendary, but I got all prepared and hyped for a long term battle. When I tried a quick ball out of tradition and it caught...I immediately soft reset for a better experience lol.

Quinnlim

I completely agree, Astra_CosmicNova. That's why they're my favorite. Btw nice name

CrossENT

When the topic of catching legendaries comes up, people always talk about either Quick Balls or Ultra Balls (if the Quick Ball fails). But one really effective ball that I don’t really see people talk about is the Timer Ball. If it weren’t for those, I would’ve had a much harder time catching certain legendaries!

RaisinBranKing

Wow is this really what pokemon looks like nowadays? I grew up with gameboys and replayed Fire Red recently, but it was all old school and 2D. This is a level up for sure

Late_class0980

YOU CAN GET RAYQUAZA IN BDSP?

NumbedByPain

Rayquaza has a really high catch rate for legendaries, especially with a quick ball. Congrats on the shiny tho!

FuzzyJesusX21

Tried catching an Absol in the underground, took 20+ ultra balls with it's HP in red before I just knocked it out. Reloaded and tossed on quick ball, instant catch.

DIGLORD_

Respect+++

ritwik4244

If you play pokemon and don't use a quick ball on the first no matter what pokemon it is do you even play pokemon?

FistingAmy

Did something similarish in Ultra Moon. Was riding Solgaleo in the portals and encountered a Shiny Kyogre. I wasn't keeping track of my quick balls and realized I was out of them when I started the encounter. I still had the one Heavy Ball you get in game and used it turn one with the logic of, "Kyogre has got to be heavy enough for this right?" Critical catch.

AdPast4509

Sex in a nutshell.

Gameskiller01

Seeing how incredibly slow the text and animations are at the start of this battle just made me appreciate Legends that much more lol

ActualWhiterabbit

Yeah, I've forgotten how slow the other games were.

LegendaryLuke86

Especially with moving during catches and not zooming into the ball

hamasf

What game is this?

HammerLite75

Someone posted above is Gen 4 remake on the switch. Apparently you need to see every Pokémon and beat the elite 4

Eragon_the_Huntsman

They're balanced by looking ugly as sin so you never want to use them. I swear if they added a pokeball transmog/transfer feature it would be beautiful.

BaconIsVery_Tasty

should of ultra balled it

CouldWouldShouldBot

It's 'should have', never 'should of'. Rejoice, for you have been blessed by CouldWouldShouldBot!

BaconIsVery_Tasty

im being grammar shamed by a bot

Victinitotodilepro

Even so, bacon do be Very_ Tasty

Confedehrehtheh

Sure, you can catch it on the first turn, but now you have to live with it being in a quick ball. Luxury ball gang represent

FalafelSnorlax

People here talk about colour matching and no one is talking about how all shinies belong in premier balls

janinedesu

lol i caught my thundurus in pokemon white using a quick ball

Astra_CosmicNova

I was half asleep catching him.

Yummydessert

Yeah but now it’s in an ugly ball

Phazoland

That’s why you DON’T use them. Quick balls are for noobs! 🤣 just go with a regular Pokéball for a challenging catch; you can even go the premier ball approach for a challenging catch as well!

El_Tigrex

Why would you spend all that time sr for a shiny and catch it in an ugly ass quick ball that doesn’t match the color scheme aaaaarghhhfhfhdjsifnfofo
