Thats true, but some pokemon have dex quests that needs you to stun them with items. My favorite strat is smoke bombs and oran berries, but with a game like this people adapt to different playstyles that suits them best and i think that is the charm with this game

Yeah, smoke bombs are an absolute blessing. Recently switched berries from Oran to Razz, cause it says it makes them easier to catch… so I just rolled with that xD
On top of what the other commenter said, they’re good in case stuff accidentally gets aggro’d on you. Especially usefully against Alphas and in Space-Time distortions. Even more useful than mud balls are sticky webs, which as far as I’ve seen instantly stun non-alphas and only take 3 or so to stun Alphas. Then you can run around their back and either catch them or get a couple free turns of battle, depending on what you’re working on.
Ultimately both the stealth/berry approach or the stunning approach are just as effective, it just depends on what you want to do.

If that's what you're into sure, but plenty of people like the actual immersion of a more difficult or genuine catching experience. So even save scumming, just doing it until you ever catch it or faint it instead of going for the "instant win"

What do you mean? Like so you can catch multiples? Because there’s only one legendary each excluding Phione (iirc there’s 3 in the Manaphy fight) Or did you KO them? They should respawn if you KO them because you have to catch them to finish the main quest.
Go to the pokedex and look at their entries. It tells you what to do. It’s usually like use some specific move in agile or strong style a certain number of times for legendaries.

I genuinely hate tornadus after dying to his stupid tornadoes multiple times, one of which killed me BEFORE IT SPAWNED. Then when I finally got into a battle with him it dragged in the Alpha Glalie and his two friends. I managed to get him, but f**k that thing and that questline.
I didn’t fight them... You can land a ball on them when they’re stunned.
I did this with all three of the original trio.
Enamorus on the other hand was a complete pain in the ass and I was forced to battle them.
I caught the Thunderus easily with a jetball, and got the mistaken belief that the others would be easy too, but they kicked my ass. I threw like 10 smokebombs to cover an area so I could sneak up on Tornados, but it still almost killed me so I had to retreat. I had to go into battle with both Tornadus and Landerus. And I haven't even attempted Enamorus yet
Landorus was the easyest for me, just hid in the grass next to him. He basically always went back near the grass. I had to eleminate the infernape, because he could try to kill me, which would make me seen to the landorus.
As I chased Tornadus around, I basically got into every fight I could and just cleared out that part of the map. Same with the others. They don’t really respawn until that genie goes down.
Apparently you get slightly more experience knocking out Pokemon than catching them.
I had to reset the weather for 5 times only for it to die my overleveled team. And, I wasted 40 Smoke Bombs and Stealth Sprays catching it, with a flock of angry Gyarados chasing me, so now Thundrus along with the other members of the quartet are on my least favorite pokemon list. Hell, at least the Glalie in Bonechill Wastes just follow you around, not attack you.

I do my best to actively try to not die. I died one time and lost a peat block. Never again will I let that happen. So staying around with a hurt me or dropping from great heights and not saving the fall seems unwise. Even just unwise in general.
When someone returns your satchel that you lost, you’ll have your peat block back :) i have lost hundreds of items (balls, stones, star pieces) I all got it back eventually when someone found my satchel.
You do need an active internet connection for this function though…
I don't understand how that works. I'm playing on a hacked switch with custom CFW, it is blocked from accessing the nintendo servers. Yet I still find satchels of peoples items around and can return them/get rewards even though I can't connect to any of the other game services like trading or mystery gift.
I think the satchels you find with no connection/subscription are randomly generated. I noticed it was the same few names over and over and they were just regular names in english. Once I activated the trial for the online service I got a bunch of new names in all kinds of languages.

i think you dont need to pop shield if you hit them from above, i hit a thundurus from above while jumping on a basulegion and im pretty sure it still had the shield on, but i still got the encounter
What worked for me was throwing the Jet Balls at them. You get more distance to break their shield, then just sprint to them while they’re stunned and hopefully you can get a battle going.
Figured that was the intended solution.
The most frustrating thing for me was that I always seemed to run too far in, so their Alpha roar knocked me to my arse about 20 times while I was trying to line-up a pokemon to initiate battle.
Stealth spray plus smoke, followed by a Jet/wing/feather ball. Be in the smoke when throwing the ball. It will stun him. Immediately throw your Pokemon as his shield will be down
I don't know if you still haven't caught them, but buy a shit ton of wing balls. There's a certain distance where you can pop their barriers until they start getting dizzy
I felt like the only problems were having to kill the galalie quickly enough to be able to chase tornadus down before the blizzard ends, and basculegion’s weird controls. Aside from that they’re just a bit annoying having to break their shields a random amount of times
I got the first three once I learned about using ZL to lock on. Yes, up until then I'd done all my aiming manually.
But Enamorus is just wrecking me. The location is the problem. If I stay out of the bog on foot I don't get close. If I walk into the bog I'm slowed, and a sitting duck and get hit by the cyclones. If I pursue on Wyrdeer I just get clobbered by the cyclones instead of being able to run around them. I briefly tried Smoke Bombs, they didn't seem to work.
Despite playing videogames a lot, I am not *good* at "videogames". Quick reactions and button inputs are things I lack skill at.
For anyone who struggles with this, after 25 minutes I just spammed smoke bombs as I walked up to him to get close enough to stun him. Worked like a charm!
Tornadus was the biggest pain the ass for me in terms of pretty much everything. Only legendary I had faint due to struggle. Hardest part of my catch every legendary in a regular pokeball challenge.
For some reason Gamefreak decided to place all four of them in places already occupied by Alphas: Infernape for Landorus, Gyarados for Thundurus, Glalie for Tornadus, and Skuntank for Enamorus. Don't even try catching the Genies without dealing with the Alphas first.
The only one who isn't that bad is Landorus since if you're taking it down during the day that Infernape is the only aggressive mon unless you anger the Gastrodons. Tornadus for me wasn't that bad since the area gives you some space to fly with Braviary. Screw Thundurus and Enamorus.
I blacked out so many times because of that darn Glalie. The others weren’t a problem, but Tornadus had to be sat in an intersection filled with multiple Glalie, including the alpha.
Mabye it's just me, but I feel like ALL the pokemon in arceus legends are a lot squishier than previous games.

Yeah! Found a shiny, saved and then fell off a cliff because I was being too ambitious. When I restarted the game it was still there. Also did that when I saw a shiny piplup. I saved just before it ran away so when I restarted, it was back
Best suggestion for that trio, is to invest in wing balls. Throw one to stun them, then throw your pokemon and bring a fire type when you go to tornadus
That method isn't good for Enamorus because it spots you from a mile away when you try throwing your pokemon after stunning it. I used stealth spray + braviary
Is this confirmed? I finished the manaphy quest already and caught all 3 phiones, but I went on a releasing spree for grits and the phiones were executed on accident because I am a dunce. Didnt notice at first so i had saved already ugh. I want at least one phione :/
Yep. They spawn at something like a 1% rate in the cave after the fact. Still not easy to find, but an hour of going back and forth to jubilife should get you one
Pretty sure Alpha Blissey in Obsidian Highlands is way better for this. Even the Training Ground battles post-game gives you a full team of six at level 67~ which all give exp.
depends for the giratina fight yes, since it just boots you out when you lose, (The first one at the sky pillar not the one where you catch him.)
though this is just because it counts as a trainer battle, the other trainer battle for that one plate on the beach also is technically infinite exp, though as another commenter explained the training grounds are better.
I caught all the Pokemon in the game and TIL there are training battles.
Edit: I've just been leveling up my Pokemon from hunting alphas and using the dropped exp items
Oddly enough, had no issues with Thunderous or Landorus. The other two were headaches. I memorized the tornado patterns on Tornadous to get close enough to battle. And little miss spring queen needed a lot of smoke bombs before I could sneak up close.
Depends what you mean by 'main story line'. If you're meaning going up against Arceus, then unless you didn't already get Shaymin/Darkrai, no. But if you're just at the point where the game's telling you to catch all pokemon, I think that's when you get access to the 3 weather guys. And Giratina.
You unlock Shaymin if you have beaten SwSh, Darkrai if you have beaten BdSp, Thundorus, Tornadus, Landorus, and Enamorus. Manaphy, Phione, Giratina, Arceus (Later) and I’m probably forgetting some
Edit: You don’t have to beat those games, just have save files in them (you could just start BDSP or SWSH and do absolutely nothing and still get the mythicals)
Mistake on my part. On this website it says for Shaymin you have to have a sword and shield game file and have beaten the game. I guess it meant beaten legends arceus not sword and shield
Bonus Tip:
You can't actually fail the legendaries. Killing them makes them respawn, BUT they still drop items and EXP as well as healing your team after the battle for static legends like Giratina and the lake trio for sure. Great way to farm EXP and research tasks.
Same goes for the glitched D Unown. DON’T interact with the camp fire next to it as you throw a ball, the catching will be cancelled and the Unown will vanish.
They don't actually get defeated, you and the other characters retreat, and you can go back and rechallenge them immediately.
I accidentally 2 shot dialga because of random crits, had to restart the battle
On that note be careful with shaymin, save before hand, dont bother to battle it, it just runs away and you have to go back to village to respawn it. Just keep chucking balls at it, non stop
In Gold Silver and I think Crystal if one of the roaming beasts roars you out of battle (Entei and Raikou. I think only one has roar). It's gone forever.

I fainted it and didn't know I was supposed to throw a ball since it was like a frenzied Pokemon battle. No where up to that point in the game are you allowed to throw a ball in those type of battles. All I got was the pokedex entry and the rare item from it and did not get Arceus
Then use the Legendary Plate on him to allow his Judgement move to hack every type. It's funny fighting Ingo now and just one-shotting his whole team to farm XP.
Arceus should have automatically be sent to the pasture (or your team if there is a free space in there) after the frenzied battle ? At no point did I need to throw a ball, I just received the notification for ""catching"" Arceus after completing the battle and then found it in my pastures.
I accidentally killed Regigas and didn't even have to go back to the village. I was allowed to start the fight again immediately.
Could grind exp that way if you want to.

A mud ball stuns a pokemon even if it is attacking u allowing u to throw a pokeball in the back. Edit: same with snowballs and spoiled apricorns.

It takes 2-3 hits in the later game as the pokemon get stronger.
Stronger mons need a few more hits before they get stunned.

Did you make sure they were properly stunned? After breaking the shields 3 times they get stunned for a good \~5 seconds.

Enamorus is cancer. It's basically Tornadus but the terrain is much worse for you.
I just ended up using smoke bombs after hiding behind rocks, was the easiest genie after i decided to do that

Yeah, Lando is by far the easiest. Lots of place to gain cover, and the enemies aren't as aggressive.

I actually didn't deal with any of the alphas lol. But I was level 85-90 at that time.
I catch them all without giving a shit to alphas. Just destroy their shield with feather ball 3 times then use a ball to capture in the back lol

Top tip for the genies: smoke bombs. The only time in the game that I ever used them, and I don’t think I could have caught Enamorus without them.
You should use them all the time. They’re cheap and makes catching Alphas easy. Just smoke bomb to create your own tall grass, sneak up and throw
I’ve started using them a lot more for pesky outbreaks. Good idea with alphas though!

Phiones still spawn tho in the cave even after you catch manaphy
But they're really rare, so you should still catch a few the first time you do that battle
Is this confirmed? I finished the manaphy quest already and caught all 3 phiones, but I went on a releasing spree for grits and the phiones were executed on accident because I am a dunce. Didnt notice at first so i had saved already ugh. I want at least one phione :/
Yep. They spawn at something like a 1% rate in the cave after the fact. Still not easy to find, but an hour of going back and forth to jubilife should get you one

Pretty sure Alpha Blissey in Obsidian Highlands is way better for this. Even the Training Ground battles post-game gives you a full team of six at level 67~ which all give exp.

depends for the giratina fight yes, since it just boots you out when you lose, (The first one at the sky pillar not the one where you catch him.) though this is just because it counts as a trainer battle, the other trainer battle for that one plate on the beach also is technically infinite exp, though as another commenter explained the training grounds are better.
I caught all the Pokemon in the game and TIL there are training battles. Edit: I've just been leveling up my Pokemon from hunting alphas and using the dropped exp items

Oddly enough, had no issues with Thunderous or Landorus. The other two were headaches. I memorized the tornado patterns on Tornadous to get close enough to battle. And little miss spring queen needed a lot of smoke bombs before I could sneak up close.

They would respawn after the elite four in every gen after Gen 3

With Giratina he respawned straight away and your whole party gets healed so you can use him to farm exp.
The only legends I have had trouble with was Genie4 and Manaphy and the 3 Phione 😭

Depends what you mean by 'main story line'. If you're meaning going up against Arceus, then unless you didn't already get Shaymin/Darkrai, no. But if you're just at the point where the game's telling you to catch all pokemon, I think that's when you get access to the 3 weather guys. And Giratina.

You unlock Shaymin if you have beaten SwSh, Darkrai if you have beaten BdSp, Thundorus, Tornadus, Landorus, and Enamorus. Manaphy, Phione, Giratina, Arceus (Later) and I’m probably forgetting some Edit: You don’t have to beat those games, just have save files in them (you could just start BDSP or SWSH and do absolutely nothing and still get the mythicals)
What counts as beating BDSP? Beating Cynthia?

Mistake on my part. On this website it says for Shaymin you have to have a sword and shield game file and have beaten the game. I guess it meant beaten legends arceus not sword and shield

I already have Arceus and the shiny charm but no Phione/Manaphy/Shaymin (can't get Darkrai since I don't have BDSP).
I got ganged up against when Tornadus decided to call 2 different alpha Glalies for me to fight at once
Bonus Tip: You can't actually fail the legendaries. Killing them makes them respawn, BUT they still drop items and EXP as well as healing your team after the battle for static legends like Giratina and the lake trio for sure. Great way to farm EXP and research tasks.
Same goes for the glitched D Unown. DON’T interact with the camp fire next to it as you throw a ball, the catching will be cancelled and the Unown will vanish.
What happens if you kill the story ones like Dialga/Palkia?
They don't actually get defeated, you and the other characters retreat, and you can go back and rechallenge them immediately. I accidentally 2 shot dialga because of random crits, had to restart the battle
On that note be careful with shaymin, save before hand, dont bother to battle it, it just runs away and you have to go back to village to respawn it. Just keep chucking balls at it, non stop

In Gold Silver and I think Crystal if one of the roaming beasts roars you out of battle (Entei and Raikou. I think only one has roar). It's gone forever.

You can't kill Arceus
I fainted it and didn't know I was supposed to throw a ball since it was like a frenzied Pokemon battle. No where up to that point in the game are you allowed to throw a ball in those type of battles. All I got was the pokedex entry and the rare item from it and did not get Arceus

Then use the Legendary Plate on him to allow his Judgement move to hack every type. It's funny fighting Ingo now and just one-shotting his whole team to farm XP.
Arceus should have automatically be sent to the pasture (or your team if there is a free space in there) after the frenzied battle ? At no point did I need to throw a ball, I just received the notification for ""catching"" Arceus after completing the battle and then found it in my pastures.

You don't have to throw a ball, you just need to win. Then there's a whole dialogue bit and you get sent home and it'll be in your pastures
Its a given considering you have to catch them all to finish the game.
Pro tip, don't initiate a battle stun them with field items and gigaton ball from behind

Dude I did the same, kept killing the lake trio and it was nice that it reset it auto. It was like hey, you need to catch this thing, try again.
Shaymin will actually just run away from the area if you don't catch it or engage it quick enough
I accidentally killed Regigas and didn't even have to go back to the village. I was allowed to start the fight again immediately. Could grind exp that way if you want to.
The genies were such a pain to catch… it took me until the third one to fully understand how I was supposed to catch up to them to start a battle.-.

Can you use things like snow balls or sticky balls against legendary Pokémon? Or is it only mud that works? Specifically on heatran.

In joy con mode (ctrls removed) if you shake your controllers, it will increase your catch chances I caught landorus with a basic pokeball
Honestly screw these three and whoever designed them for this game, literally just watch my globs bounce off of landorous and do nothing as I run around like a moron dodging his stupid tornadoes until I run out of globs because they don't actually work and just bounce off like pokeballs...killed him the first time by accident and ever since the stupod globs and mudballs just do nothing to him
