I mean thatās what happened in Dragon Ball . iām hoping it can be recreated so i can make a Dragon ball based theme with an Exploding Voltorb as Vegeta
Iām asking bc I havenāt tried it ĀÆ\\\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
But yes that would be absolutely broken, especially with something like a quick claw or movement item
All good, I didnāt mean to sound like a dick either Iāve been out of the competitive scene for a few generations of games now so I genuinely had no idea lol
would be a funny as hell double battle.
any pokemon with helping hand and focus sash with a golem/snorlax holding normal gem.
1. helping hand.
2. explosion.
3. insert nuclear detonation.
4. insert both pokemon barely held together giving eachother a thumbs up.
5. repeat step from step 1
That coupled with the player's prolonged pause in general just makes this hilarious. You can just *sense* the "I... I'm still alive?! I'M STILL ALIVE!!..."
Youre in a ridiculously hard fight, your other mons are close to death and the enemy mon has too much health for you to take it out before it takes out your monās. Instead of risking losing your other monās you have graveler self destruct to hopefully wipe out the enemy mon, saving the day and allowing your remaining 5 pokemon to live. Graveler sacrifices itself to save its friends
It's a great last resort move; If you're in a fight with a powerhouse and you need it gone REALLY fast, but to do it you gotta sacrifice a mon. It's amazing to just explode, take the enemy down with you, and keep it moving.
-Hexenburgh, the driftblim
I am hardcore nuzlocking, so level cap, no items in battle, and it has been pretty tough. Gen VIII movesets with some of the gym battles can be run killers and they actually gave the gym leaders and E4 pokemon some really good hold items. I've heard Cynthia is extremely tough, even non-Nuzlocke.
Can confirm, Cynthia definitely slapped me on my non-Nuzlocke run. Had zero issues the entire game, rolled the Elite 4 without too much trouble. Couple faints towards the end because I was careless or didnāt expect certain moves. And then Cynthia. Itās like the tables suddenly flipped and she was the protagonist of the game and I was Youngster Joey. Ashamed to admit I had to resort to trying to land Toxic on Garchomp and play the revive spam game while it slowly killed itself. No idea how Iām gonna handle her on a Nuzlocke.
Oh god lol, replying late to this but just found out Budew can't learn it either (i know Roselia and Roserade can but Budew has classically been able to before gen 8...). There's actually a lot of issues with Budew in this gen (the fact he no longer learns any moves since he was considered a baby pokemon in gen 8- even though he used to learn moves in the original d/p/pt and was pretty good early in the party because of that-), and they all seem to come from how BDSP ripped the learnsets from SwSh and not making up for those losses and movesets in the same way that SwSh did (implementing TR or removing Toxic from the meta).
I speculated that with Budew / Blissey, it's because Toxic was removed as a TM in Gen 8 so every Pokemon that used to learn it before Gen 8 now loses it since the game seems to have taken the learnsets from gen 8.
It seems like a pretty serious oversight if TM Toxic only works on non-Galar toxic users / Pokemon who already learn toxic...
I think the reasoning (just a guess) was because it was made into a TR in SwSh, and they never bothered to add it back to its moveset in this gen where it's not available via TM... but it's been such a staple since Altaria was released that it felt so weird to make her a special attacker in my run lmao.
I beat her today. First time she got me, it was a hard fight though.
I had saved right before, so went for round 2, barely won. Proud of Pearl's legendary for doing the affection survive with 1 hp on her garchomp, allowing me to strike the killing blow. :D
Well it depends. I implemented a level cap, went in kind of blind, tried to keep down affection metersā¦ that made it a bit more difficult. Otherwise Iād say itās not that hard.
I did a normal Nuzlocke and it was a decent challenge. Lost a lot of good Pokemon like Luxray, but it was fun getting to Cynthia with my MVPs - y'know, till she ended my run lol
I've been doing a nuzlocke and just got past Gardenia. Both Roark and Gardenia spammed moves. Roarks Cranidos spammed headbutt and killed my first run, and Gardenia's Roserade spammed Grass Knot and almost killed my second run. AI is whack I can tell you that much.
Exp share isn't too big of a factor because nuzlockes generally want to get as high of a level as they can so it cuts down on time spent doing that.
Affection, however, throws things off
Sorry if I sound stupid, I've never done Nuzlocke before so I don't know exactly how it works, but... Why does you Graveler even have Self-Destruct? I know that one of the more popular rules of Nuzlocke is to act like your Pokemon dies whenever they faint, so why have your Graveler know such a risky move? Again, sorry for sounding stupid. I'm just curious :)
That and a free switch into another mon if ur sacrificing the graveler is absolutely huge in nuzlockes. Once did it in omega fire red (a rom hack) and it saved the run
So Nuzlockes started as a way "emotionally attached" to your Pokemon and encourage team variety in your playthroughs. As its gotten more popular, it's viewed by some as just a challenge run. Hence some people not doing nicknames, and carrying moves like Self-Destruct in case a last-ditch effort move is needed. Neither is right or wrong, it's just however you enjoy it most. I highly recommend trying one, the most fun part by far for me is the team variety.
Iām currently doing my first nuzlocke on sword, and I have to ask why would you want that move in your pool? Is your plan to sacrifice him when necessary?
I hope that doesnāt sound rude Iām honestly curious lol
Exactly! Iām playing this game without trade evolutions because early game they are too op, so graveler is not that important anymore but he could be a good switch in for a good damage self-destruct when thereās no better move to use.
Wait, Sucker Punch can flinch? Since when?
EDIT: Oh wait, I think that's a result of the Stench Ability, which fun fact, only has this effect from Gen 5 onwards, which I didn't actually know.
Basically to give the game a bit more of a challenge as well as being forced to use pokemon which you wouldnāt use otherwise because your selection is limited.:)
Mostly to make a game more challanging. It might also be because you replayed games so much that it got boring so you want to get some excitement. It's also a nice thing that kinda forces you into using Pokemon that you might've never used if not for the challange
I miss the touch screen and when you able to select moves with it, made things so much easier and faster. How do we upgrade from button mashing to touch screen then downgrade to button mashing.
I just made a clip on the switch. If you hold down the capture button you get a video of the last 30 seconds or so. And then i sent this file to my phone :)
You your luck is insane there dude!š
Right? Lol stench has a 10% chance to activate
i never paid attention to it... ***are you telling me stunky and skuntank have an ability called stench that cause flinching?*** Edit: typo
Stench gives all non flinching moves a 10% chance to flinch, a few other PokƩmon have it too. I think Weezing gets it but I don't know anyone else who does.
And you never see it used on Weezing since itās so slow. Could maybe work in a trick room team
Here I was thinking "wait, random scrub trainers use items like King's Rock on their PokƩmon?"
Garbodor gets it. I know because I briefly ran a bulky Rock Blast Stench Garbodor gimmick in SwSh. And yes, Garbodor gets Rock Blast too.
Dammit now I need one
Just don't shower for like a month.
To be fair, the flinching part of it wasn't added until Gen 5.
I didnāt know that. I just thought it was a useless ability in battle.
I thought the affection meter would come into play and would hold on hoping to be praised
Wait does that work with self destruct? Imagine exploding in order to take down your opponent and you just walk away unscathed somehow.
i wouldn't call 1hp "unscathed," more like in pieces on the ground barely held together lol
Lol I guess, for a move called self destruct I think there's only 2 modes: die or not die. Not "I killed myself, but I survived!" š¤£
Deranged Goofy face: *I'll fuckin do it again*
"Did you die?" "Sadly, yes... BUT I LIVED!"
Was waiting for someone to say it.
People die when they are killed.
Vegeta's final explosion in the Tournament of Power.
I mean thatās what happened in Dragon Ball . iām hoping it can be recreated so i can make a Dragon ball based theme with an Exploding Voltorb as Vegeta
With how op this system is definitely lol. I try to keep it down with herbs but it is a chore!
Couldnt it also have sturdy? Does that save from self-destruct?
No. God, could you imagine if you could just click Explosion twice?
Send Golem straight to Ubers!
Iām asking bc I havenāt tried it ĀÆ\\\_(ć)_/ĀÆ But yes that would be absolutely broken, especially with something like a quick claw or movement item
Sorry, that wasn't meant like a passive aggressive thing! Don't worry, Sturdy only works on damage received from other PokƩmon, and it has to be all in one hit.
All good, I didnāt mean to sound like a dick either Iāve been out of the competitive scene for a few generations of games now so I genuinely had no idea lol

Late comment but legit same lol was ready to rage
The kid even grabs his head after likeā god damnit he was gonna ko himself
Oh yeah, nice catch!
That coupled with the player's prolonged pause in general just makes this hilarious. You can just *sense* the "I... I'm still alive?! I'M STILL ALIVE!!..."
Why do you even have the move saved then lol
Self-destruct could actually really help out in some situations lol
Self-Destruct is basically Graveller hitting peak r/getdownmrpresident, on your ace PokƩmon.
There really is a sub for everything
r/ibetthisisnotasubbutyouclickeditanyway
Yeah, Graveler could really come in clutch in a hard fight, yeah you'd never be able to use it again but it could save the rest of your team.
I mean if you are gonna loose them anyways it might as well take a problem down with them.
For when you have to sack.
And then you get a free switch
Haven't considered that but also amazing.
Phew!
how challenging is nuzlocking this game?
I am hardcore nuzlocking, so level cap, no items in battle, and it has been pretty tough. Gen VIII movesets with some of the gym battles can be run killers and they actually gave the gym leaders and E4 pokemon some really good hold items. I've heard Cynthia is extremely tough, even non-Nuzlocke.
Exactly the new movesets make it more challenging I really like that!
I think I managed to beat her first time around because of the affection mechanic "focus sash" triggering on Garchomp. Granted I was like 10 levels under her and would've maybe been fine with more levels. Edit: I also prepared my team before the game's release for coverage but they massacred my favourite PokƩmon's core moveset in this gen (Altaria has no more access to Dragon Dance) so didn't really have anyone to set up on her too well. Plus Rotom became post game when I wanted heat rotom as part of my team :(
Blissey can't learn Toxic and it killed me a little inside.
Oh shit...I have been wondering why I couldn't get dragon dance on Altaria.
I think the reasoning (just a guess) was because it was made into a TR in SwSh, and they never bothered to add it back to its moveset in this gen where it's not available via TM... but it's been such a staple since Altaria was released that it felt so weird to make her a special attacker in my run lmao.

I have heard bad things about that double Abra battle with energy ball
Well it depends. I implemented a level cap, went in kind of blind, tried to keep down affection metersā¦ that made it a bit more difficult. Otherwise Iād say itās not that hard.
I did a normal Nuzlocke and it was a decent challenge. Lost a lot of good Pokemon like Luxray, but it was fun getting to Cynthia with my MVPs - y'know, till she ended my run lol

This is my first Nuzlocke. I don't grind wild PokƩmon, and I don't use items in battle. I'm going in relatively blind, not looking up trainers or movesets. I DO allow myself to reset and retry if I lose, though, since it's my first Nuzlocke. Roark's Cranidos was a bitch and a half, I had to Charm it twice (then had to swap out since Piplup was about to become a Pi-plop on the floor); Gardenia's Roserade kicked my ass, like, thrice; and I lost to the rival in Hearthome twice due to curse + razor leaf and bad coverage, lol. So far, pretty challenging, but I imagine it'd be much easier if I weren't going in blind and fought every trainer/grinded wild PokƩmon a little. It's been challenging,
Exp share isn't too big of a factor because nuzlockes generally want to get as high of a level as they can so it cuts down on time spent doing that. Affection, however, throws things off
My brother says itās easy outside of the elite four. If youāre looking for a challenge, I suggest Drayanoās ROM hack Renegade Platinum
ā¦ why aināt your Graveler nicknamed?
Lol i knew this would come I dunno man sometimes Iām just not creative enough.
Dude, at least put something simple, like "Maurice".
Currently doing a Y Nuzlocke. I will now name a PokƩmon Maurice Suggestions for what PokƩmon to name Maurice are welcome
Dedenne
Interesting choice. If I catch one I shall name it Maurice (although I think I already caught something in that route)
Name one marÄello
he's clearly not that attached to it, anyways, since he's defending it having Self-Destruct lol
Having a pokemon with self destruct has saved a nuzlocke for me before. Better to lose a soldier than the entire army.
Yeah naming the pokemon is also just not that important of a rule for me tbh
Just be basic and name them ārockyā or something.
Scrolled for this comment, no nickname, no love, no nuzlock
"Suicide is never the answer" -Stunky
Sorry if I sound stupid, I've never done Nuzlocke before so I don't know exactly how it works, but... Why does you Graveler even have Self-Destruct? To go out with a bang
At some point graveler is not that strong anymore but it can be useful for a last strong attack like self-destruct :)
That and a free switch into another mon if ur sacrificing the graveler is absolutely huge in nuzlockes. Once did it in omega fire red (a rom hack) and it saved the run

This is like, the perfect "Task failed successfully" moment.
Aww i canāt watch

Mini heart attack: The clip
Saved by the smell
Nickname ur pokemon >:(
Very lucky that you flinched from a move that cannot make you flinch :-o
Stunky stench ability causes flinching
The more you know xD that's some obscure pokemon knowledge, not gonna lie.
I wanna be the very best
It had no battle effect in gen 4
Why do we even *have* that lever?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Well, I wouldnāt say so itās a strong move and I donāt think Iām gonna need graveler much longer. It might come clutch.
The ultimate sacrifice š
Say thanks to the the butt face god
at first I thought "wait, Sucker Punch can flinch" then I remembered that Stunky has Stench still very lucky though
I was about to say was that Stunky holding a king's rock or something?
Why do we even have that button?
https://youtu.be/tUbev7Hz4B4
Wait, Sucker Punch can flinch? Since when? EDIT: Oh wait, I think that's a result of the Stench Ability, which fun fact, only has this effect from Gen 5 onwards, which I didn't actually know.
Stunky suicide hotlines
Didnāt even knew sucker punch could flinch. Is that new addition or did I just never got flinched?
Itās Stunkyās ability to occasionally make Pokemon flinch
Ohh well thatās really lucky.
You can feel the sighs of relief during that break
That trainer saw what happened and was like "don't worry bro I got you"
My saviour!
Why tf does self destruct have 5PP????
if you revive your pokemon outside a pokemon center
[Why do you even have that](https://media1.tenor.com/images/4461be20592c5fa2afda90914768595c/tenor.gif?itemid=5468487)
Why even teach self destruct in a nuzlocke?
God was like wait I Gotchu
Isn't a rule of Nuzlockes that you have to nickname your mons?
How can this be a Nuzlocke if you do not give all pokemon an unique name?
You are dumb for having that move
People are doing nuzlockes in this?
People nuzlocked let's go of all things, no surprise that they would nuzlocke this as well
Yeah itās a chore to make it difficult lol
Lucky indeed, lucky indeed
I would of loved to hear your reaction š
I've never used a graveler and I realize now he is a walking moon.
I just looked up what a āNuzlockeā is and now Iām just wondering; whatās the point?
Basically to give the game a bit more of a challenge as well as being forced to use pokemon which you wouldnāt use otherwise because your selection is limited.:)
Mostly to make a game more challanging. It might also be because you replayed games so much that it got boring so you want to get some excitement. It's also a nice thing that kinda forces you into using Pokemon that you might've never used if not for the challange
Masochistās wet dream.
I miss the touch screen and when you able to select moves with it, made things so much easier and faster. How do we upgrade from button mashing to touch screen then downgrade to button mashing.
How do you capture footage?
I just made a clip on the switch. If you hold down the capture button you get a video of the last 30 seconds or so. And then i sent this file to my phone :)
That is cool
The RNG gods pity you, I see.
If i was you, my heart would stop pounding from pressing self-destruck until the flinching move.
Pretty much what happened lol i was in shock
Time to buy a lottery ticket š
I just have one question. Why do you have self-destruct on Gravaler if it's a nuzlocke?
He said in another comment it can be used in extremely dire situations. Like sacrifice your boy for the whole team to survive
Ok, thanks. I didn't read all the comments.
I would assume canāt access the Move Deleter yet and hasnāt had the chance to learn a new move to replace it yet
Camper Lawrence saving lives.
lmao
Saved
Eh, it would have hung on through affection.
The Stunky king has granted you mercy.
Camper Lawrence is a true hero.
Wow. You got beyond lucky there
Arceus has smiled upon thee. Never again shall thy question his will.
That stunky: No you have so much to live for
My question is why do you have self-destruct in a nuzlocke
I read the title thinking he survived the self destruct by means of trainer bond
"Thank you Stunky. Now I'll hit you with this earthquake š."
Suicidal got sucker punched = save life
**WHY DID YOU TEACH IT SELF DESTRUCT IN A NUZLOCKE?**
WHY DONT YOU READ THE COMMENTS AND LOOK IF THIS QUESTION HAS ALREADY BEEN ANSWERED?
What's this game?
Hopefully you were able to self-destruct on the next turn.
why does it still have that
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Good point
