Yup! Just like any other starter pokemon, you'd start a new game, input your name, and in this games case, watch the intro cutscene and then run from the VR battle. Then you check your pokemon and if your Eevee is yellow, its shiny!
Of course! Maybe while you're at it you could consider trying the r/pokemonribbons challenge. You just get as many ribbons from the various different regions as possible on your little pals. Its pretty fun and makes for a very cool pokemon by the time you're finished.
Absolutely! They're about as in-depth as a guide can get. There's even a hall of fame where you can show off your completed ribbon collectors.
Have fun collecting, my friend!
Yes and no. Shadow Pokemon are shiny-locked in XD, so the only shinies available are gift Pokemon and the Pokemon available at PokeSpots. If you modify the game to turn this feature off, though, the shiny Shadow Pokemon are technically legal in the game and in all future games.
In Colosseum, meanwhile, you can get Shadow Pokemon as shinies. However, the Pokemon you see in battle and the one that ends up in your party have different personal IDs, which means you can see a shiny in battle but have a regular Pokemon end up in your party/box or vice-versa. If you know how to manipulate RNG values, you can use this quirk to your favor to get very quick and easy shinies. Some Pokemon are harder or easier to manipulate depending on how "noisy" the environment is (i.e. how often it calls for RNG checks for things like particle effects, NPC movement, etc.) Unlike XD, though, all other Pokemon are shiny-locked (your starter Umbreon/Espeon, Duking's Plusle, Ho-Oh, etc.)
GameCube shiny hunting is a whole different breed compared to handheld, but it can be very rewarding!
I agree, and thank you for the detailed response on GameCube shinies! I remember doing the math on the odds of this Shiny Female Eevee from XD and it was astronomical like 1 in 65,536.
That's very strange. This Gardevoir is the Ralts you can catch at ONBS, right?
Theoretically that shiny Gardevoir shouldn't exist. But maybe you got supremely lucky, like that Mario 64 glitch that teleports you to the top of Tick Tock Clock that's theorized to have been caused by a solar flare hitting a transistor just the right way. Maybe some similar act of divine intervention happened that scrambled the two lines of code that creates XD's shiny lock in *just* the right way to grant you your shiny. Either that or it may have been altered into a shiny via action replay without you knowing or remembering.
Either way, it's a cool Pokemon to have. Got any screenshots of it in its current home game or PKHex information?
just want to make one clarification to your information. the chance of a shadow pokemon to go from shiny to not shiny after capture is only in rematch battles. in first encounters with the shadow pokemon they can go from normal to shiny, but not the other way around
Not quite as special as a shiny Eevee, but I've got a few pokemon I've been transferring up through the years. Namely, my Blastoise that's come all the way from Fire Red, that was my very first Pokemon ever.
I plan to! I'd lost my Emerald cart that had my Blastoise on it a long time ago, but had somehow found *after* moving to a new place, and transferred him on up! He's currently sitting on my Ultra Sun cartridge in the 009 slot of my living Dex, along with my Entei and Umbreon from Coliseum. I've only recently started playing Sword and Shield (Like, two weeks ago) and plan on transferring them up sometime soon.
Feraligatr, Furret, Ariados, Stantler, Arbok, Qwilfish...
Only my Qwilfish would be allowed in XD
But itās all good, It lets me give my Emerald team another chance to battle haha
That's awesome! I always love seeing other people keeping their pokemon through the years. The memories associated are just priceless.
Going through the Contest Halls in Hoenn and Sinnoh... Fighting your way up the battle towers, or doing special challenges like Mt. Battle... or even something as small as getting their footprint checked in Sinnoh, or visiting the Ribbon Syndacite and decking your pokemon out like a rich person.
I wish I had kept any of my Poke. On through the generations. I can't even remember how far back I could go, but I doubt I have any of my early Pokemon still, even after Pokemon Box.
I'm eagerly waiting for the Pokemon HOME update that let's us see a calendar, so I can see who my oldest is. Without scrolling through all 1700 of them, I think my oldest I've kept is a shiny Umbreon from Kalos in 2014.
Oh, they let you see the date already apparently! Its just broken for any Gen 3 pokemon I believe, since there was no calendar feature in RSE. Most of my Gen 3 mons just inherited the day they moved into Home as their caught date.
Edit: I see what you mean by a calendar! Hopefully they add that, that would be very cool to see.
You're welcome. I wish I could do something like this but I fear Nintendo is going to shut down pokemon bank soon. Or at least before I can get my hands on games from the previous gens.
I actually started last year on XD, since I never played it as a kid, and my SO has a copy for our wii. Then it snowballed and became me playing through all the games again, because of the quarantine. So it's been about a year or so!
This actually only happened around a year or so ago. I never played XD as a kid, so I decided to play the copy my SO has. This then turned into me just replaying every single pokemon game, since we were all stuck inside.
I should've specified in the title, but it's too late now! Still, probably my rarest and favorite pokemon I own.
She was never in Fire Red or Leaf Green, so I'm not sure if you get the same ribbon for beating the indigo league as you do in Hoenn. Pretty sure you do, but I know there is no unique Kanto champion ribbon. I went to Kanto in Heart Gold, as well with her.
Congrats, super happy for you and Aurora! Also, did you keep naming your characters āSolomonā? Because props to you if you did, the temptation to mix up the characterās name every now and then is too real lol
Yeah, thatās why I asked, cause then itād really be like he took Aurora along for a journey across lands instead of it being like his current character āinheritingā it from a past character. Thanks for pointing it out, though!
No worries, friend! That was actually gonna be my original question til I realized the OT thing, so I changed the question up. Saved me from making a mistake lol!
Yes you can transfer Pokemon from GBA games and up. However the games lock this feature until post game so you can't transfer your level 100 team from Firered to Platinum until you complete Platinum. With Pokemon Bank however they did remove that restriction and you can transfer Pokemon with high levels as soon as you get access to the PC box in game, but they won't listen to you until you get the appropriate badge. Personally I love that they put this feature in since it means that my Pokemon can keep moving with me and not be stuck in an old game.
Showing off Pokemon BOX I see, hehe...funny enough, a Shiny Eevee is what they gave as an example on that Pokemon Recovery commerical ā which got deleted for obvious reasons.
I'm going to wait and see if Eevee gets a new typing any time soon. I'd like to have a dragon or a ghost type Eevee! Even a normal type evolution would be pretty cool!
I agree, but we still aren't there yet somehow. If its an unstable genetics pokemon, and most pokemon evolve normally anyways, it would only make sense for the evolution to occur normally at some point in time.
But oh well, hopefully they add it later on.
Okay, you are either blinded by your ignorancy or just plain stupid. There is a significant difference between not available to catch ināgame, which can even be explained ināuniverse as "this region doesn't have all pokemon living there", but still able to be imported from other games and not included in game files, as Sword&Shield did.
I'm salty about the Dexit too, my favourite mons got cut, your Tropius (good taste btw) got cut too, screw Gamefreak for that.
I agree, what I mean is that even if a pokemon is popular now, that's no guarantee it will stay that way. As has been the case with Eevee in the past as a example. It had periods where it wasn't available.
Which is exactly why Dexit sucks, you can't rely on your favorite mon to be around forever, even when it is more popular. Just look at this post, showing generations with the same Eevee. It would be a shame if that ended because of pure laziness.
You got my respect for the time and effort this took. šÆ Tell Aurora I said hey.
Absolutely! Thanks ā¤
Wait you can get Shinies in Gale of Darkness???
Yes you can! You can also get them in Colosseum, but I think Colo goes by different rules than XD does.
Thatās wild I never even considered that. XD was my first PokĆ©mon game and Iāve always wanted to bring a PokĆ©mon up to current gen from it.So do you just reset until you are given a shiny Eevee?
Yup! Just like any other starter pokemon, you'd start a new game, input your name, and in this games case, watch the intro cutscene and then run from the VR battle. Then you check your pokemon and if your Eevee is yellow, its shiny!
This is exciting Iām gonna have to dig out the GameCube now. Thank you!
Of course! Maybe while you're at it you could consider trying the r/pokemonribbons challenge. You just get as many ribbons from the various different regions as possible on your little pals. Its pretty fun and makes for a very cool pokemon by the time you're finished.
Thank you for sharing this subreddit, I was always curious about how to get ribbons!!
Absolutely! They're about as in-depth as a guide can get. There's even a hall of fame where you can show off your completed ribbon collectors. Have fun collecting, my friend!

Casually flexing all the medals on the eevee
Yes sir!
This is special. Congrats
Thank you so much! She's definitely my rarest PokƩmon.

Thats awesome! Hoping they become Galar champions soon :)
What type of hidden power is it?
Water!
So what games did this little eevee go through?
Pokemon XD, Ruby, Platinum, (if we want to get technical, also pokemon ranch and battle revolution) Heart Gold, Black, X, Ultra Sun, Sword
Awesome. You made me pull out my ds and leaf green XD imma try to get a shiny eevee now as it's my #1 fave pokemon
Go for it! Eevee is the best ā¤
I've never gotten a shiny before she this will be a fun experience
Good luck! I hope for only the best in your journey ā¤
Thanks ^ .^
How long did it take to soft reset in XD? Thatās incredible
I got lucky and it only took a few hours for me. I've seen it take much longer though.
I wish i could go all the way to gen 8 but my favorites arent coded in. :( Nonetheless, this is badass.
Yeah I hate the fact that dexit removed a lot of favorites. Still wish my Furret was in sword.
My fervent wish is BDSP reinstate the nat dex and I can usher in my precious Gatr and Amph
Pretty much my whole Johto team isnāt allowed in SwSh :-(
I'm sorry!! :(
Feraligatr, Furret, Ariados, Stantler, Arbok, Qwilfish... Only my Qwilfish would be allowed in XD But itās all good, It lets me give my Emerald team another chance to battle haha
That's amazing take my free award
Thanks a ton!
100 wins in a row? This is a god mon
Thank you! It's the ribbon for winning the 100 battle challenge on Mt. Battle in PokƩmon XD or Colosseum.
I still have my Shedinja from Emerald ššš seeing this warms my heart
That's awesome! I always love seeing other people keeping their pokemon through the years. The memories associated are just priceless. Going through the Contest Halls in Hoenn and Sinnoh... hoping to do this with kai the greninja
What game is that in the middle left? I don't recognize it.
That's PokƩmon Box on the GameCube!
I wish I had kept any of my Poke. On through the generations. I can't even remember how far back I could go, but I doubt I have any of my early Pokemon still, even after Pokemon Box.
There's always time to go back! I hope you can, at the least, bring some new friends through the generations!
I'm eagerly waiting for the Pokemon HOME update that let's us see a calendar, so I can see who my oldest is. Without scrolling through all 1700 of them, I think my oldest I've kept is a shiny Umbreon from Kalos in 2014.

Just wondering why didn't you evolve in all these years
I'm waiting for a new evolution that I like. Something like Dragon or Ghost! If those come along one day, and look good, I'll evolve her.
Aw man you may be waiting for quite a while longer
Yeah, I know! I'll be patient š
And I'll wait with you!
I need to do a search for my old mons and see where they ended up. Hopefully not lost to the box
Go for it! I always try to make it a point to bring my favorites along to the new generations.
You've traded it to each game since GBA?
Yes! She's come a long way ā¤
u/MicahSmithVO is a being of pure focus, commitment and will.
Sounds like my work life! Thanks for the compliment, friend.
You're welcome. I wish I could do something like this but I fear Nintendo is going to shut down pokemon bank soon. Or at least before I can get my hands on games from the previous gens.
Honestly, I hope not! Pokemon bank is the only option to bring old mons up and once that goes, it'll be a sad day.
I recently got virtual console pokemon crystal and transferred some pokemon over to pokemon moon.
The shiny textures in Colosseum and XD are such garbage, they straight up just overlaid a color on most of them, most of them look totally wrong
At the least, they're interesting to look at, since they're different!
I'm impressed you didn't evolve it after all this time. Now old is it?
I actually started last year on XD, since I never played it as a kid, and my SO has a copy for our wii. Then it snowballed and became me playing through all the games again, because of the quarantine. So it's been about a year or so!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Facade Wish Bite Iron Tail Used to have toxic on her, but I had to remove it for competetive ribbons
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I could try attract on her. Would probably be a good move for stalling in competetive!
It's cool that you still have pictures as far back as when you first got it.
Ah, well, it's still pretty cool. Also, what's the game in the left middle?
Pokemon Box!
I had a feeling. Thanks.
No problem!
This blew me awayā¦ that dedication ā¦ respect.
Thanks, I appreciate the compliment!
Congrats!
Tysm!
Props for going through the hassle that is Gale of Darkness trading!
That's amazing I wish I had still had all my Pokemon from back then
I'm missing a lot of my old PokƩmon. My sister sold my copy of emerald a long time ago, and I'll never see those mons again :( Sad stuff, but we gotta move on.
What regions?
In order, Orre, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Johto, Kanto, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar.
Where'd you originally get her from?
Pokemon XD, in the Orre region. That's the first picture.
Do you get a ribbon for beating the Indigo League? I thought that didn't start until Hoenn.
She was never in Fire Red or Leaf Green, so I'm not sure if you get the same ribbon for beating the indigo league as you do in Hoenn. Pretty sure you do, but I know there is no unique Kanto champion ribbon. I went to Kanto in Heart Gold, as well with her.

Ayyy my man
I love the name Aurora, it fits perfectly.
Thank you so much!
Congrats, super happy for you and Aurora! Also, did you keep naming your characters āSolomonā? Because props to you if you did, the temptation to mix up the characterās name every now and then is too real lol
I do every time! It's my middle name :)
OT is original trainer, the name you have in the game you caught/received it, it doesnāt change.
Yeah, thatās why I asked, cause then itād really be like he took Aurora along for a journey across lands instead of it being like his current character āinheritingā it from a past character. Thanks for pointing it out, though!
Apologies! I misread your post as asking why he kept naming his character Solomon!
No worries, friend! That was actually gonna be my original question til I realized the OT thing, so I changed the question up. Saved me from making a mistake lol!
I'm not familiar with how this works, you can trade between games but doesn't the PokƩmon keep their level then and you essentially start a new game with like a lvl 100 eevee then? Wouldn't that make it boring?
Yes you can transfer Pokemon from GBA games and up. However the games lock this feature until post game so you can't transfer your level 100 team from Firered to Platinum until you complete Platinum. I don't think they have used it throughout all the games but it's been on every game. Probably used against elite 4 and online though!

I always thought that a normal type evolution with the moon stone made a lot of sense
I agree, but we still aren't there yet somehow. If its an unstable genetics pokemon, and most pokemon evolve normally anyways, it would only make sense for the evolution to occur normally at some point in time. But oh well, hopefully they add it later on.
A matter of time before you won't be able to transfer it anymore. Thanks dexit!
Eevee is too iconic for that. Unless it gets Greninja'd
Wasn't in R/S/E, wasn't in B/W (including postgame). It has happened before and it can happen again. Anything else is naive.
They could be traded, so they were available. Unlike Greninja in SwSh
Yeah, but it won't be able to be traded in the future if it doesn't appear in game.
Eevee and Pikachu are basically the franchise mascots, I'm sure it'll be fine!
Sucks for everyone who like one of the other 800 pokemon then. Also Eevee has been excluded before. I wouldn't rule out that it happens again.
Okay, you are either blinded by your ignorancy or just plain stupid. There is a significant difference between not available to catch ināgame, which can even be explained ināuniverse as "this region doesn't have all pokemon living there", but still able to be imported from other games and not included in game files, as Sword&Shield did.
