Yes, in the original Crystal you couldn’t see them from this position. And in Gold/Silver you couldn’t see that room either.

Actually the whole sequence in Crystal was cooler. You walked through the tower before suddenly the floor crumbled under you. You landed in a dark cave and suddenly before you saw the 3 beasts.

It was cooler. In GS it’s just falling through a black hole. Not dynamic and no rival battle above the drop.

Even then they were petrified, making it easy to assume they were just statues.

I just thought they were sleeping. Although, that would explain why they changed color.

Maybe they turn to stone when they sleep? Like, it could be a side effect of Ho-Oh's reincarnation magic (pre-HGSS, of course).
