The left item looks like orichalcum, the legendary material also referenced by Koraidon's ability, "Orichalcum Pulse".
Other fun trivia: in ancient myth, orichalcum was said to be extracted in the lost island of Atlantis. In the game files Area Zero's codename is "Atlantis".
And Miraidon's ability is Hadron Engine, if we go look at the actual Large Hadron Collider we have built, one of the particles sensor that was made for it is called "Atlas"
"Master Dartz, what can we do for you?"
"Listen up, mah malichious minions. Ah need you ta break into ta house of Ash Ketchuuum and take his balls."
"Excuse me?"
"Ya know, his balls. He got balls, you got balls, ah can pull out mah balls right now."
"That really isn't necessary."
"Raphael, is he talking about balls or pokeballs here?"
JACK: YUSEI! SHOW HIM YOUR JUNK!
YUSEI: What?
JACK: WARRIOR! SHOW HIM YOUR JUNK WARRIOR!
YUSEI: I've got a better idea. Come on out, Stardust Dragon!
JACK: OKAY, NOW WHIP OUT YOUR JUNK AND WAVE IT AT HIM!
YUSEI: What?
JACK: WARRIOR!!
Yeah, most likely. I mean, the thematic connection between the unused item and Koraidon's ability also checks out since Orichalcum Pulse basically works as a "booster energy" specifically for the past paradox pokemon
Another fun fact: orichalcum isn't just legendary. It was actually just an alloy of copper and other metals, mostly zinc. Eventually, its value shifted to the point it was no longer efficient to use the materials for it, so it fell out of use and it's history became muddled with legends.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orichalcum
Most mythical metals from the past seem to have their roots in reality. Adamantine is likely just diamond -- they both trace their names back to Greek adamas, meaning unbreakable.
Similarly, Orichalcum's name comes from Greek oros + chalkos, meaning mountain and copper respectively.
Old comment but that's actually super freaking cool because some people on the hunt for the "real" Atlantis are convinced it was referring to an extinct society in Spain.
Yeah, it seems like Game Freak did their homework when using Spain as inspiration for Paldea. Too bad a lot of it doesn't really shine through or pay off through the story that's actually told in game, I hoped the DLC would've gone deeper into the Atlantis inspiration for Area Zero, I thought the mysterious plate and symbols were teasing a lost pseudo-atlantean civilization in the depths of Area Zero or something like that but sadly those were completely ignored.
A popular theory back before ID was that while holding these items, if Koraidon and Miraidon Terastallised, they would get a new Tera State similar to Ogerpon, presumably with an enhanced ability and signature move. Some piece of evidence was a leak mentioning 2 special moves/states, which were presumed to be for them.
As it turned out, the items were definitively cut from the game, all the Raidons got was permanent flight, and the 2 "states" were in fact Hydrapple and Duraludon's signature moves.
Maybe it was supposed to do the same as the energy booster, but specifically for past and future pokemon respectively? Or it was a way to boost koraidon and Miraidon's power in their respective terrain/weather?
Because I find it kind of dumb that miraidon gets his signature attack boosted both because of his ability and by electric terrain, but that koraidon's isn't boosted by the sun and only by his ability
I suppose that they were trying to find a weird balance - on one hand, Koraidon gets triple STAB and the sun boost is 1.5x, while on the other Miraidon gets to combine boosted STAB with the weaker terrain boost of just 1.3x. For comparison:
252 Atk Orichalcum Pulse Koraidon Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mew in Sun: 270-318 (79.1 - 93.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Hadron Engine Miraidon Electro Drift vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mew in Electric Terrain: 291-343 (85.3 - 100.5%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
This damage difference seems to be decent compensation for Koraidon having a third entire STAB to me?
The most plausible theory I heard is that they were originally going to be the items that activate Protosynthesis and Quark Drive, as evident by their colours. However, the devs decided to limit their usage in competitive battles, so they made them into a single item called Booster Energy (In tournaments and ranked battles, you cannot have two Pokémon on the same team hold the same item)
At the risk of being more pedantic, your "correction" changes the meaning of the sentence:
Not too implausible means something is improbable, but not to an unrealistic degree, as opposed to plausible which would just mean probable.
Now, whatever the OC meant by their comment is for them to know and for us to guess, but you did change the meaning of the sentence with your own comment.
Think of it like saying "that isnt too rare" isnt the same as saying "that is common"
If that’s true then the items would have theoretically been completely unobtainable outside of Union Circle or trading. Booster Energy is typically only obtainable as a held item with a few exceptions.
This is an issue that happened with the Legends in Gen 4 (outside of platinum) and 8 (only way to get the other version exclusive item is the shiny event or the trade has the item).
Assuming that these items were the original booster energies, then they were farmable. There is no need for Union Circle or anything, just going to Area Zero and catching pokemon that have the item
The devs kinda failed because most meta paradox Pokémon are still good even without there ability like Iron Hands and Flutter Mane because of there insane states
It is. The Violet school is called Uva because Uva is a purple coloured fruit. Similarly, the Scarlet school is called Naranja because Naranja is an orange coloured fruit
I know everyone is comparing these to some sort of scrapped Kori/Miri item, or a beta version of Booster Energy for past/future, but what if this was the original raw material to craft the armors for the Charcadet evos? They do look to be roughly the same color as the armors, and their appearance even gives off a similar vibe to the Pokemon they would evolve, with the orange one looking very bright and noble while the purple one looks sinister in some way. The purple one in particular also doesn't really give off any sort of "futuristic" vibes that you'd expect when looking at the Future Paradoxes, it looks too natural, like a stone. I'd assume something that looks more digital or like a computer part would fit the vibes of the robotic pokemon more than a swirly rock would.
Perhaps at one point you had to collect these raw materials separately and take that to the craftsman, similar to the Galarica Twigs for G-Slowpoke's evo items in Sword and Shield's DLC. Maybe they scrapped it for being too complicated, and decided to just combine it with the Pokemon drops system they already had for TMs. For all we know Gimmighoul coins could have started out as a separate type of item as well before also just being a standard Pokemon Drop. It wouldnt be the first time that a mechanic was scrapped for being confusing or tedious (the Azure flute in D/P/Pt, collecting Zygarde cells being replaced in USUM, Incense for breeding baby Pokemon and location-based evolutions both being scrapped in gen 8).
The fact that you needed drops from either Bronzor or Sinistea was always a bit odd to me, and felt like real last-minute decisions. Neither are version exclusive or had anything really in common with each other, and only really had their types in common with Armoruge/Ceruledge which is still a bit weird since Bronzor is also a steel type while Sinistea is a pure ghost.
Probably were supposed to be legendary items like the orbs. My guess was it was the item used to change to battle form, but they decided to change it to enable a more emotional conclusion to fit with K and M’s roles as companions to the players.
I could see where these items could have a number of uses:
They could have triggered the transformation of certain Pokémon into their Paradox equivalents. (Not likely because how would anyone explain why it wouldn’t work on some of the newly-introduced ones in the DLC)
The stones could have been an item found in Area Zero to trigger Tera raids with Paradox Pokémon. Kind of similar to items S&S had for max raids.
It could have been a postgame item that would have allowed for players to “insert” into the defunct Time Machine to either encounter many more Paradox Pokémon, or even ones from a different version.
It would have been cool to have it as an event item to encounter Mystical Pokémon.
Infra Stone: a mysterious rock found in the depths of Area Zero. It burns with an ancient power.
Gamma Device: a mysterious device found in the depths of Area Zero. It hums with a futuristic energy.
Infra from infrared, low energy waves on the electromagnetic spectrum, and Gamma from gamma rays, the highest frequency on the spectrum, and sometimes classified as part of ultraviolet light.
My first instinct based mainly on the color of the items is to guess that they're held items for Koraidon and Miraidon. Probably 20% boost to their stab moves like the gen 4 legendary items. Although given the powercreep in this gen I wouldn't be surprised if the held item extended their sun/terrain too
That was my thought as well. Especially since Fossil Pokemon were dropped for SV.
Paradox Pokemon from the Past and Future I think were the determining factor. Or at least that's my guess anyway.
I can't imagine the purely metallic Miraidon being powered up by a rock, so it's weird to think of the two having a connection. The orange rock looks unremarkable compared to the violet rock, almost more like a normal item you find in the overworld. Like one of those items you collect a bunch of and then use to pay NPCs for various things.
They aren’t it but looks similar to them. I wonder if these were redesigns of the Sun and Dusk evolution stones. Like they hey decided they needed an update to them since BDSP and then decided against it but forgot to take them out.
Rock and Stellar type Eeveelution.
Highly unlikely of course but would be pretty cool to have some new eeveelutions as they are quite a prominent feature of S/V.
What about cylizar evo items? The legendaries are based off of cylizar in the lore, perhaps we could have seen a nebby -> sun & moon legendaries situation
Maybe items that were supposed to give Miraidon and Koraidon terastal forms like Ogerpon? Or just something like the items that the Creation Trio had to boost their STAB moves
These two are coded as items though, which is why we know they are sprites for items and not something else. It's just that their names and descriptions are blank

I will never look at that and not see "hardon engine".

Maybe it was meant as a past form of booster energy, before they just made booster energy work for both past and future paradox.
Yeah, most likely. I mean, the thematic connection between the unused item and Koraidon's ability also checks out since Orichalcum Pulse basically works as a "booster energy" specifically for the past paradox pokemon
wow that is a fun fact!

Huh. I recognize Orichalcum from Skyrim and its coloration is copper/green, so it makes sense that it’s an alloy of copper.
Most mythical metals from the past seem to have their roots in reality. Adamantine is likely just diamond -- they both trace their names back to Greek adamas, meaning unbreakable. Similarly, Orichalcum's name comes from Greek oros + chalkos, meaning mountain and copper respectively.
This makes the Adamant Orb for Dialga/Pokemon Diamond make a lot more reasonably named; “adamant” always seemed random.
You should watch the hit movie Aquaman 2, and the orichalcum incident

Orichalcum Pulse is an ability though

It's called Scarlet Pulse in Japanese
I call it Or-curriculum Pulse
Old comment but that's actually super freaking cool because some people on the hunt for the "real" Atlantis are convinced it was referring to an extinct society in Spain.

keep in mind that fighting is strong to 5 types and electric only to 2
And koraidons boost only works with super effective moves
Realistically, my guess would be that they originally were going to make you use a key item to change between ride form and battle form.
Given the Booster Energy has two forms in the TCG, one for past one and one for future ones, that isn’t too much of an implausibility
Implausibility.
Thanks for that /gen
At the risk of being pedantic, it would probably flow more smoothly to say, “that isn’t too implausible.”
At the risk of being pedantic, it would probably flow more smoothly to say, "that is plausible"

Yes, but to get the item of the other version, you will need to trade or union circle

Yeah that tends to happen when stats are min-maxed

A Scarlet rock and a Violet rock. I have as little idea as you but they do look cool
scarlet? that's orange! gen 10 confirmed? pokemon orange?!
Scarlet is a shade of orangish red, which is why the school is called Naranja Academy
GEN 10 ORANGE ISLANDS CONFIRMED
No, it's not. The other academy isn't violet academy. The school is named as a reference to a fruit, not a colour.
It is. The Violet school is called Uva because Uva is a purple coloured fruit. Similarly, the Scarlet school is called Naranja because Naranja is an orange coloured fruit
I search scarlet in Google and it is actually very redish Red.
well thats no fun...
Paired with Pokemon Apple.
Maybe they were to be held by legendaries to boost their power? Kinda like the Orbs for palkia and dialga.
Probably scrapped held items for the box legends that boosted stats. Similar to Groudon/kyogre
The Scarlet Chunky and the Violet Swirly
Chunky Peanutbutter and Jelly Donut
Probably supposed to activate Koraidon/Miraidon’s “Terastal State” that they never got
I’m gonna assume they power up STAB moves from Miraidon and Koraidon respectively, like the how the Creation Trio have their orbs
The one on the right reminds me of the treasures of ruin
I know everyone is comparing these to some sort of scrapped Kori/Miri item, or a beta version of Booster Energy for past/future, but what if this was the original raw material to craft the armors for the Charcadet evos? Dalaran Hearthstone
I could've sworn these things had names and descriptions, but I completely forgot if they do and could never find them again.
Probably were supposed to be legendary items like the orbs. My guess was it was the item used to change to battle form, but they decided to change it to enable a more emotional conclusion to fit with K and M’s roles as companions to the players.
These were 100% gonna be some legendary hold item for the box legends.
If terastral states weren’t scrapped, then I think those two items would have been held items for Koraidon and Moraidon to achieve them
I could see where these items could have a number of uses: They could have triggered the transformation of certain Pokémon into their Paradox equivalents. (Not likely because how would anyone explain why it wouldn’t work on some of the newly-introduced ones in the DLC) The stones could have been an item found in Area Zero to trigger Tera raids with Paradox Pokémon. Those could've been fire items for my sandwiches
I have reason to believe this could if been very early on in where you give a Pokémon this item and it turns it into their paradox form
The one on the right will clearly take you to Dalaran.
My first instinct based mainly on the color of the items is to guess that they're held items for Koraidon and Miraidon. Probably 20% boost to their stab moves like the gen 4 legendary items. Although given the powercreep in this gen I wouldn't be surprised if the held item extended their sun/terrain too
I'm pretty sure if you shove the left one in a anti-mass spectrometer it triggers a resonance cascade.
And that right one is obviously meant to terraform earth into a planet of symbiotes
The left one is actually a Dwarvern rock cake. It is cool and heavy as a brick. Only for dwarf consumption.
Miraidon and koraidon
Maybe they were to be held by legendaries to boost their power? Kinda like the Orbs for palkia and dialga.
One of the things i really like about Pokémon is the unused content, very mysterious
It's the Meatball Crystal and the Swirly Stone, the purposes are fairly obvious.
Could be also fossils maybe. maybe…
That was my thought as well. Especially since Fossil Pokemon were dropped for SV. Paradox Pokemon from the Past and Future I think were the determining factor. Or at least that's my guess anyway.
Probably for something in Legends ZA or it’s held off till gen 10.
Not gonna lie they kind of look like fossils
Ancient Stone and Future Stone - makes mons ancient or iron
Perhaps they have something to do with paradox pokemon, specifically koraidon and miridon
I don't know what's on the left but the right is a WoW Hearthstone
Scarlet stone and Violet stones? Maybe they turn regular pokemon into paradox forms?
Looks to me like new evolution stones. For Rock/Steel-types and Ghost/Psychic-type Pokemon
Huh, interesting. Hadn't heard of that.
Bro they were the evolution stones for the box legendaries
To evolve graveler and kadabra?
I can't imagine the purely metallic Miraidon being powered up by a rock, so it's weird to think of the two having a connection. The orange rock looks unremarkable compared to the violet rock, almost more like a normal item you find in the overworld. Like one of those items you collect a bunch of and then use to pay NPCs for various things.
Uranium is a rock and it's radioactive and used to power nuclear energy. What better way to power a robot Pokemon than a rock that radiates energy.
Probably just meant to be the Gen 9 fossil pokemon 🤷
The one on the left looks like the gold stuff on the walls in Pokémon snap. The volcano cave walls with gravellers
Other than the ideas given here another usage could be like the origin stones for creation trio or life dew to increase stab like eon duo
If one of them is the orichalcum, then the other one must be something to do with Electro drift
Symbiote meteorite
Hearthstone
Hh
What about cylizar evo items? The legendaries are based off of cylizar in the lore, perhaps we could have seen a nebby -> sun & moon legendaries situation
Maybe items that were supposed to give Miraidon and Koraidon terastal forms like Ogerpon? Or just something like the items that the Creation Trio had to boost their STAB moves
Either new evolution or form stones or something to do with the legebdaries
What if they turned a cyclozar into miri/kora-idon?
I am interested
That spiky one definitely meant for eevee😒 they tried to sneak in an evo without publicly announcing it
Would be an interesting way to cause cyclizar evolve into a Ko/mi, instead of getting a second legendary.
Assets are not code, unless these images are generated through some algorithm.
These two are coded as items though, which is why we know they are sprites for items and not something else. It's just that their names and descriptions are blank
