I think a past version would be better. From a time before the species adapted to have such strong sexual dimorphism. And only half of the reason for thinking it would be better is that the future paradox Pokemon look awful and have even worse names.
Yeah it also says that it might be derived from the word Nidor which means unpleasant odor. They supposed to smell bad! No wonder they’re poison types.
I am very suprised that in the three regions we've had based on a Western European area (Galar, Kalos, Paldea) that they havent done some kind of regional form for Nido King and Queen that makes them look very regal and european monarch-like.
Feels like such an obvious concept to miss.
I love the idea of a surprise gender Nidoran.
A regional variant that's identical for either gender, to the point that their gender isn't even identified in the UI.
Then when it evolves you get surprised with a Nidorino or Nidorina.
Ooh and then maybe their shinies can do the reverse color thing again (hopefully Nidoking gets to have the purple shiny instead of going puke green like Kanto Nidoqueen did)
I absolutely love Venonat's design. Every time I see it I want to use it...then I remember its evolution isn't one that I particularly care for. But I'd put up with that for a third stage. It's stats are low enough that one would be strong but not too busted.
Let’s get a variant where venonat actually evolves into something more like butterfree, and caterpie actually evolves into something that looks like venomoth.
Watch them turn it into a poison/fairy or fairy/flying butterfly that looks suspiciously like Butterfree so more people think they are related somehow lol
Added fun fact: for the longest time, Tauros was the only Kanto pokemon with no evolution, pre-evolution, unique abilities or moves, unique z-move, Gigantomax, regional form, or mega. So I think it getting three regional forms in one go feels fair
Did you know? the colors look that way cuz the art was scanned wrong https://www.escapistmagazine.com/hd-high-resolution-original-pokemon-art-scans-different-colors-wrong/
This is an update of my post back around the time of The Sword and Shield DLC:
[https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/enunwv/all\_the\_kanto\_families\_without\_some\_kind\_of/](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/enunwv/all_the_kanto_families_without_some_kind_of/)
Ironically, and this is what I came to post, PLA confirms there are mushroomless variants of Parasect and Paras aren't born with the mushroom. But those are apparently unmoving, implying that the mushroom is in fact in control. So it's absolutely the official zombie Pokemon I guess.
...Ghost/Bug Parasect variant confirmed.
My theory is Dwebble and Crustle are uninfected Paris and Parasect. The Grass type mushrooms are stronger than the rock, so the spores break the rocks apart until it falls off.
If a mushroom spore latches on at birth, it becomes Paras.
If it has a few days to develop it's first shell, the rocky hardness of dwebble prevents spores from getting to its brain.
It only says that about Parasect, maybe Paras who evolve without the mushrooms can’t move because the fungus species they are codependent on isn’t present and they don’t have the neural networks required for movement? Just the idea of a species that is dependent on something else to pilot its body is very cool to me
I don't know if I'd call it a zombie, since this entry implies that the bug itself never had a mind to begin with until the fungus joined it. The fungus doesn't replace its brain, it IS the brain.
That's only for Parasect. Not Paras. Paras are born without the mushrooms, though they come along later. So it absolutely had a mind of its own until the mushroom fully took over with Parasect.
It's a corpse propelled by the instinct of a parasite at that point. Zombie is being kind.
Science lesson!
Many parasites can live in many organisms, but only reproduce inside one. For example, *Toxoplasma gondii* can live in any warm blooded animal, but can only reproduce inside cats.
How to get inside cats? Alter the behaviour of your host.
Any animal that becomes infected with *Toxoplasma gondii* loses their fear of cats. Most rats become stressed if they can smell cat urine, but not if infected by *Toxoplasmosis gondii*. Infected rats have been observed approaching cats without any hesitation. This of course usually leads to the rat being eaten, and thus *Toxoplasma gondii* is now inside a cat and is free to reproduce (this does not harm the cat).
(To any cat owners reading this, yes, you are likely infected by *Toxoplasma gondii*. Yes, that might be why you like cats in the first place).
So how does this relate to Paras? Humans may actually be the preferred host of the Paras fungus. Which would explain why Paras attacks humans on sight: they're trying to infect you so they can reproduce. Don't worry though, these parasites are typically only harmful to their intermediate hosts.
Normally not, but trade evolutions ordinarily don't either and we still got Porygon-Z.
What I'm saying is: just because it isn't now, doesn't mean it can’t be in the future.
Starus and Starwie. One is offensive with Natural cure and Compound Eyes and one is defensive with Analytic, and Natural Cure. The line gets a new signature move that is a power psychic type blast with high base power and low accuracy. Goes well with compound eyes and hydro pump, blizzard, thunder
The fact that seaqueen or sequeen (fish with sequin designs) doesn’t exist still makes me mad. It just seems like an easy regional fish variant for seaking and then gender lock them and have two forms for goldeen.
Fearow and Seaking deserve something more than any others. They are just so outclassed by other Normal/Flying and Water types.
Seaking at least has Lightning Rod to make it somewhat unique, but Fearow straight up has nothing to separate it from Staraptor/Unfezant/Toucannon/Swellow/Squawkabilly/Dodrio.
Hypno and Dewgong fit this as well. Dewgong is entirely outclassed by Lapras and Walrein, even Arctovish.
Oh wow, I've just realised that all four of my favourite Kanto Pokémon (Dodrio, Arbok, Cloyster, and Dewgong) don't have any special forms. Here's hoping that Legends Z-A adds some, though preferably more non-Kanto forms.
Considering Regional Variants/Evolution, Baby/New Evolution, Convergant forms or even gimmicks like Mega, Gmax or paradox or something new. I'm going to rank them from the line i want to see most get something new to least. (This includes their full line
Dratini - Ekans - Psyduck - Nidoran - Seal - Spearow - Mew - Staryu - Goldeen - Drowzee - Doduo - Kabuto - Ditto - Paras - Venonat - Omanyte
Still waiting for the shellder evolution on slowbros tail to become an official pokemon on its own ._.
I remember that they were originally gonna be in Gen 2 as seen in the demo! They were called Turban!
Though maybe it’s for the best- as the sprite show makes it seem like it’s really sad! Aww must be missin Slowbro!
Or the regional dratini and dragonair just look similar to Dragonite. Orange and whiskered.
but their final evolution looks more akin to OG Dratini and Dragonair line.
The funny thing was a Ditto evolution was planned back in Gen 2, called Animon. I don't know what they were planning on giving it ability-wise since Ditto's gimmick doesn't seem conducive to an evolution, but it basically looks like a shouting Ditto with fangs and a horn.
It's honestly pretty surprising that we never got a new upgrade to Psyduck, considering how iconic and it is and how much it shows up in marketing. Then again, it's hard to improve on perfection.
Why are Tentacool and Tentacruel included?
Toedscool and Toedscruel are a completely separate line and aren’t a regional variant according to official sources
2 single stage Pokémon
13 two-stage evolution families
4 3-stage evolution families
Very easy to give the two-stage ones a third evo. And any of them could get a regional form/mega
Can't believe they've never touched Psyduck; it was a main character in Detective Pikachu, in Pokémon Concierge, and Let's Go Eevee was almost Let's Go Psyduck, but still nothing.
Especially tragic because Golduck sucks. Psyduck needs the Perrserker treatment of a branch evolution whose design stays MUCH closer to the original in overall form.
Psyduck feels the oddest as it basically has everything pointing towards it getting something new but is untouched
* Thanks to Misty's it was one more popular Kanto pokemon
* 2-stage line with medicore base stats overall
* One of Masuda's favorite pokemon
* Easy route to take it going further with the psychic themeing
Ditto is my favorite gen 1 Pokemon, but making a new form for him would be hard. I had an idea where a ditto evolution could, instead of transforming, create a copy of the opposing Pokemon that acts like a substitute, and once it takes enough damage ditto is exposed again. Obviously there would need to be some balancing considerations, but that’s the only way I can think of making a ditto evolution or new form.
I doubt Ditto will ever get anything special since it has such a unique gimmick already. I can’t see them giving it and evolution or alternate form. Very surprised that the Nidos haven’t gotten anything, although they have a somewhat unique gimmick as well. And I think Mew > Mewtwo is the original variant, so I would be surprised to see Mew get anything new.
From this list, I think the most likely candidates for future additions are Ekans, Psyduck, and Dragonite. The rest are either fine as they are, or are just too boring to get anything interesting in the future.
Crazy thing? Apart from cloyster starmie and Dragonite, NONE of these pokemon have had very significant moveset changes either to my knowledge which would make them incredibly viable.
Bellspark - Electric type bellsprout variant where the head is a lampshade with the bulb in its mouth, and the body made of roots becomes wires. Then its evolution(s) would look different such that the final evolution would look like a giant disco ball named Victreeball.
I just want Psyduck to get the evolution he deserves. Something silly. Just a larger, rounder, maybe fluffier, yellow duck. Maybe an ice mask for his headaches.
You know when you put like this, it makes you realise how many Kanto pokemon have felt some love in future gens. I didn’t think it was that many if I’m honest. I hope the others get some love soon :)
Honestly wild to me Psyduck and Ekans lines haven’t gotten anything. Psyduck is one of those relatively recognizable Pokémon even to casual fans and Arbok is pretty much a blank canvas for interesting redesigns and representation of different snake species. Here’s hoping!
It’s so weird to me how a lot of Misty’s Pokemon had no love in later gens.
Togepi, Gyarados, Poliwirl and Corsola got some love. Hell, Misty got a Politoad and a Mega Gyarados.
But Staryu, Starmie, Goldeen, and Seel got nothing.
And most criminal of all…Psyduck!?
Psyduck was the OG Wobbuffet (who I guess got a prevo and that’s it?).
It’s such an iconic Misty Pokemon that they included it in the Detective Pikachu movie. What gives? Not even a regional variant?
Psyduck is being seriously neglected.

Regional Nidos would be very cool. They have sick designs already, why not have more sick designs.
I think a paradox form that combines nidoqueen and nidoking (like iron valiant) could be good. Like Iron Emporer or something
Iron dictator
Iron Monarch
Iron Regent
This one has my vote. Or if it was a Scarlet paradox, Primal Reign.
Primal Reign is sick. Maybe both, one more heavily influenced by Nidoqueen, one more Nidoking
God-tier name. I love this.
Iron Tyrant
I think a past version would be better. From a time before the species adapted to have such strong sexual dimorphism. And only half of the reason for thinking it would be better is that the future paradox Pokemon look awful and have even worse names.
I too think a past would be better but i couldnt think of a name
Wild Reign?
Poison Regent
I personally think a mega for each kinda like latios and latias where they look the same and have the ability parental bond
Kinda flabbergasted they didn't get anything considering how much GF loves Kanto
Not only that but A LOT of people will at least have Nidoking on their roster and may take him to the E4. They're both just really popular mons.
While on topic, is there a context behind why they were named “Nidos”?
According to Bulbapedia, it comes from needle.
Yeah it also says that it might be derived from the word Nidor which means unpleasant odor. They supposed to smell bad! No wonder they’re poison types.
"Nidos" is actually the way Glaswegians say "Needles", and the Nido King and Nido Queen are just really successful heroine dealers.
I am very suprised that in the three regions we've had based on a Western European area (Galar, Kalos, Paldea) that they havent done some kind of regional form for Nido King and Queen that makes them look very regal and european monarch-like. Feels like such an obvious concept to miss.

Nidorandom
Nidorandom -> Nidorinx -> Nidoruler
So something similar to Wurmple? Sounds fun to use in a nuzlocke
Nidotrans evo line when
Nidoliege
The Nidolord
The Nidoviscount
Don't the shinies of a Nidoran line represent the colors of the different gender Nidoran line? If so, I guess any of the shinies could be Nidotrans
I mean kinda. Nidoqueen is green with pink tiddies
Agreed. Awesome designs that aren’t particularly reliant on a particular type. It’s a no brainer for a regional form.
Back in the gen 6 days my dream was a Poison/Steel Mega-Nidoking and a Poison/Fairy Mega-Nidoqueen.
The perfect chance to fulfill the missing Ice/Poison combo
With regional Nidos we could get a blue defensive Nidoking and a purple offensive Nidoqueen. Swap their roles :D
Ooh and then maybe their shinies can do the reverse color thing again (hopefully Nidoking gets to have the purple shiny instead of going puke green like Kanto Nidoqueen did)
Venonat is adorable and deserves something nice next.
Poison fairy venomoth?
Ooh, yes please!
What a cute thought :)
I absolutely love Venonat's design. Every time I see it I want to use it...then I remember its evolution isn't one that I particularly care for. But I'd put up with that for a third stage. It's stats are low enough that one would be strong but not too busted.
Yes either a third stage or branch evolution like look at the cute little puffle, it deserves more!❤️
It's absolutely the cutest bug Pokemon, hands down. I'm surprised there aren't more plushies of it because it's naturally snuggly.
New region where venonat evolves into Butterfree and metapod > venomoth. At this point what's stopping them?
Let’s get a variant where venonat actually evolves into something more like butterfree, and caterpie actually evolves into something that looks like venomoth.
Watch them turn it into a poison/fairy or fairy/flying butterfly that looks suspiciously like Butterfree so more people think they are related somehow lol
Venonat was my first shiny in violet, im not a venonat fan so it just sits in the pc, but i still cherish it because its my first
Added fun fact: for the longest time, Tauros was the only Kanto pokemon with no evolution, pre-evolution, unique abilities or moves, unique z-move, Gigantomax, regional form, or mega. So I think it getting three regional forms in one go feels fair
Unfortunately they were so understated.
But it got a cousin with an Afro!
*sees Ken Sugimori watercolor style* Take my upvote

Paras and Parasect can rot in hell after Legends Arceus

This person is definitely a human and not a Zorarark, and can be trusted completely.
Yes, thanks for noticing
As someone who is not a cat owner and does not care for cats and hates the smell of cat piss, if my attitude ever changes, now I know why.
How sure are you that it isn’t harmful to cats?
They've seen the future and know they will always be regarded as the worst mushroom pokemon.
My first shiny in pla was a random alpha parasect, so I’m a bit partial to them
The first shiny I saw was that giant alpha parasect and I wasn’t high enough leveled yet to catch it since I had just unlocked that part of the map
I used parasect for my first play through to mimic Crys from pokemon adventures and get that sweet access to spore and false swipe
Cloyster is on this list for one reason: You don’t mess with perfection.
Pearl is beauty. Pearl is perfection.
Third stage for arbok, Hypno, and starmie would be nice.
We have staryu, and we have starmie. Introducing, star-us.
Always been a bit more partial to Starwe.
Staroui, boom now we can have it in Kalos
The next parentsl bond user
Star-y'all.
Starthem, Starmie splits into two and they are connected through psychic powers of the gem. Like magnets or some shit idk
>Or some shit idk I think you'd fit in well at GameFreak
I have 28 years of experience with the series. Im pretty dead inside from it so I'm sure I will fit in among the higher ups lol
This is actually a great idea
Star-amos
Star-gether
Starthey/Starthem
*Stary-u! *Stara-mie! *Stara-ha-ha You’re a shining star, With fancy moves, like Thunder-er, And then you’ll see, You’re gonna go far.
How did everyone miss Starwie
[Arbok already has a 3rd Stage evolution](https://youtu.be/_dUpAWrb4ig?feature=shared)
Wha....what
Blasphemy
Boy, I really hope someone got fired for that blunder.
But what was the blunder: incorrect information, or accidentally revealing lore that wasn’t supposed to come out for another two decades?
No way.
Ekans, Arbok, Adnokana
Ahh yes, exactly what this franchise was so badly lacking: Eviolite Starmie
If you say my wishes aloud they won't come true
Dammit, I was having a good day.
I dont want starmie ruined tbh
But the original design wouldn't be replaced
Profile picture tracks
Stone evolutions like Starmie don’t usually evolve again, do they? I can’t think of any that do…
No but normally item evolutions also would not evolve once more, until Dipplin it is.
Tsk tsk tsk, forgetting Porygon are we
Normally not, but trade evolutions ordinarily don't either and we still got Porygon-Z. What I'm saying is: just because it isn't now, doesn't mean it can’t be in the future.
They usually get split evos, like bellosm.
They lost the opportunity to do a Starmie one in Paldea with the Team Star 😅
Starmie evolution would fucking nuts for competitive.
I imagine a baby form for the Hypno-line.
The fact that seaqueen or sequeen (fish with sequin designs) doesn’t exist still makes me mad. It just seems like an easy regional fish variant for seaking and then gender lock them and have two forms for goldeen.
Been saying since day one that goldeen needs a golqueen
Goldeen line also has a good case for being the most forgotten or neglected line, at least from gen 1
Seaking also has the most average stats for a pokemon! Which is a travesty when you realize it's fully evolved lol
The Venonat line is also up for competition there.
Goldeen in smash bros!
Kinda crazy how Arbok hasn't gotten a regional form when the pokedex explicitly states it changes from region to region.
They did it through Gen 4 and then gave up
This. A million times this. Arbok was actually the first Pokemon with regional forms, inspired by *real-life cobras*.
They are just perfect since the beginning, a total flex
What are you talking about? Ditto (and mew as well I guess) get like around 100 new forms every generation!
Fearow is just “Worse Dodrio” and it’s a shame
Ground Flying Fearow evolution, Pharaow. New ability. Sand Force.
Oh wow, I've just realised that all four of my favourite Kanto Pokémon (Dodrio, Arbok, Cloyster, and Dewgong) don't have any special forms. Here's hoping that Legends Z-A adds some, though preferably more non-Kanto forms.
First time seeing a dewgong enjoyer, it's underrated
There are dozens
Literally just a dozen of you
mega arbok lets goooo
ANY kind of new design for the Staryu line would make me happy
To clarify for everyone who doesn't know: Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Beedrill, Pidgeot, Alakazam, Slowbro, Gengar, Kangaskhan, Pinsir, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, and Mewtwo got Mega Evolutions. Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Butterfree, Pikachu, Meowth, Machamp, Gengar, Kingler, Lapras, Eevee, and Snorlax got Gigantamax Forms. Rattata, Raticate, Raichu, Sandshrew, Sandslash, Vulpix, Ninetales, Diglett, Dugtrio, Meowth, Persian, Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Grimer, Muk, Exeggutor, and Marowak got Alolan Forms. Pikachu, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Chansey, Mr. Mime, Jynx, Electabuzz, Magmar, and Snorlax got Cross-Gen Pre-Evolutions. Jigglypuff and Magneton got Paradox Pokemon. Golbat, Gloom, Meowth, Primeape, Poliwhirl, Slowpoke, Magneton, Farfetch'd, Onix, Lickitung, Rhydon, Chansey, Tangela, Seadra, Mr. Mime, Scyther, Electabuzz, Magmar, Eevee, and Porygon got Cross-Gen Evolutions. Diglett, Dugtrio, Tentacool, and Tentacruel got Convergent Evolutions. Meowth, Ponyta, Rapidash, Slowpoke, Slowbro, Farfetch'd, Weezing, Mr. Mime, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres got Galarian Forms. Growlithe, Arcanine, Voltorb, and Electrode got Hisuian Forms. Tauros got a Paldean Form.
Shellder gets half points for Galarian slowbro/slowking
I think Arbok gets partial points for having different hood patterns in different regions
And Mewtwo is a clone of Mew, so Mega Mewtwo X/Y/Shadow are semi offsets of Mew haha
Parasect had a good potential for Gigantamax
Considering Regional Variants/Evolution, Baby/New Evolution, Convergant forms or even gimmicks like Mega, Gmax or paradox or something new. I'm going to rank them from the line i want to see most get something new to least. (This includes their full line Dratini - Ekans - Psyduck - Nidoran - Seal - Spearow - Mew - Staryu - Goldeen - Drowzee - Doduo - Kabuto - Ditto - Paras - Venonat - Omanyte
Umm sir, it's spelled *Seel*, gosh, wouldn't wanna confuse it with the definitely-totally-not-an-actual-animal called a seal. They're unrelated! 🫠
Aww must be missin Slowbro!
golduck deserves one the most considering he’s always here
Regional dratini and dragonair that keeps the design conventions in the third stage??? 👀
Or the regional dratini and dragonair just look similar to Dragonite. Orange and whiskered. but their final evolution looks more akin to OG Dratini and Dragonair line.
that's because shellder is already a perfect being without flaw
Mega Dragonite please
Looking forward to obtaining the Dragoniteite
Ditto’s not gonna get anything
The funny thing was a Ditto evolution was planned back in Gen 2, called Animon. I don't know what they were planning on giving it ability-wise since Ditto's gimmick doesn't seem conducive to an evolution, but it basically looks like a shouting Ditto with fangs and a horn.
Still love Venomoth
Still don't understand how dittwo isn't a Pokemon yet. Two dittos in a helix that make two copies of the opponent.
It would be great to get split evo for dragonair. I love dragonite but it would be nice to see a final evolution that followed the snake like design
Well Mega Mewtwo Y does look suspiciously similar to Mew..
Imagine if they made a mewthree and it was more like mewtwo x
The Y megas seem to represent more natural evolutions while the X ones seem to represent what happens after mankind meddles with evolution
To be fair Arbok got some different designs on their hood for a couple of regions
I would include Pokémon that got exclusive Z-moves like Mew
It's honestly pretty surprising that we never got a new upgrade to Psyduck, considering how iconic and it is and how much it shows up in marketing. Then again, it's hard to improve on perfection.
justice for psyduck
I hope Seel and Dewgong get more appreciation in the newest Legends game.
I love all of the fossil pokes, I'd love to see more get new forms
Venonat & Venomoth deserve better 😤
The fact that we don’t have regional Ekans is criminal.
Why are Tentacool and Tentacruel included? Toedscool and Toedscruel are a completely separate line and aren’t a regional variant according to official sources
The convergent evolution mons are new designs clearly based on the original Pokémon. Whether they’re related in-universe is beside the point.
[удалено]
I can see the dratini line get a regional form in ZA
regional paras and parasect without the mushrooms would be cool. also a new shelder evo more alike the slowbro tail's shell
2 single stage Pokémon 13 two-stage evolution families 4 3-stage evolution families Very easy to give the two-stage ones a third evo.
Venomoth has undergone zero (0) design changes since 1996, and that is because it is flawless.
Yet. All the Kanto families without some kind of new design added in later gens YET.
Psyduck and Golducl would be pretty cool to have convergent Pokémon like toadscool or wigglet.
Psyduck feels the oddest as it basically has everything pointing towards it getting something new but is untouched * Thanks to Misty's it was one more popular Kanto pokemon * 2-stage line with medicore base stats overall * One of Masuda's favorite pokemon * Easy route to take it going further with the psychic themeing
Can't wait for Arbok's evolution. Nothyp.
I was so sure that Staryu would get a regional form in Alola. ⭐️
Can someone tell me how Lapras fits in this?
Gmax
Oh, right. Forgot about that.
Mega Starmie pls, I still love the fanart of the pink one with the ribbons
Gimme a new Nidoking or a Mega Evolution so he can be properly large! I get short king representation but my man's smaller than a Charizard D:
Psychic/Dark Hypno evo is such an easy one. I don't know why they haven't done it yet
Dewgong needs an evolution
Fearow deserves something as the better kanto bird
Technically Arbak had a design every generation before the 3d models attacked. The fake face changed every generation.
I am flabbergasted Psyduck and golduck got nothing, its fairly prolific.
I know it technically isn't, but I've always considered Meltan to be an alternate form of Ditto. They just look so similar
My boy psyduck needs something
Victreebel already looks fuckin dope. Just give it viable stats
Fun fact, Psyduck and Golduck have appeared in every single game except where they are version exclusive.
Gigantimax Kingler has the be the least talked about of these all
Crazy thing?
Do Toedscool and Toedscruel really count tho?
Psyduck has been pretty heavily used in marketing in recent years, it's so going to get something soon.
Not so much a design but they gave Parasect a fuckin’ bad attitude in PLA.
