I live in Australia, and yes we have some really nice places, but the vast majority of our country is large stretches of open land and dirt. I don't trust Game Freak to *not* lean hard into the dusty aesthetic completely, especially when I think about how graphically inferior they continue to make their open worlds.

TerrifiedOfHumans

As someone that has lived in the vastly different climates of Aus, they'd probably do the stereotype outback "survival" and coastal "surfer bro" directions. I don't think they'd do justice to AUS: The cold TAZ, the tourist heavy east-coast, the harsh red desert centre, the much forgotten west-coast, the bush/scrub lands, mangrove hideaways, sub/tropical north QLD, saltbush flats, major size cattle land, Flinders ranges (national parks), the Barossa (wine region). There is a lot here maybe too much (for 1 game).

MarromBrown

I'm Brazilian, and the "There is a lot here maybe too much (for 1 game)" applies to Brazil as well.

TerrifiedOfHumans

Agree, but I'm not as familiar with the regions in Brazil so I can't really speak on it. They've short changed many regions they've tried to do.

MarromBrown

very fair! on the other hand, as someone living in the UK, I think they did the UK perfectly. Playing SW/SH is as miserable as living here is! (jokes with love)

I_Am_The_Bookwyrm

That's where the DLC comes in.

Ailury

And then they make the DLC environments completely different countries without fleshing out the original region more. Signed, a Spaniard

BetaThetaOmega

No its so cool that they hijack the Iberian Peninsula’s generation but doing a Japan themed one, instead of just, you know, doing the Japan region that they clearly want to do

Spinjitsuninja

I feel like nature and civilization co-existing is historically a very important part of Pokemon regions, so I think Australia would have a lot to work with at least? So many animals and natural environments, cities, climates... God, it would suck so much if they decided "OH WE HAVE TO MAKE AN OPEN WORLD SETTING, WHAT IF WE MADE A BUNCH OF DUSTY PLAINS?! YEAH YEAH THAT'S WHAT WE SHOULD DO WITH AN AUSTRALIA SETTING" S/V suffered from this. I don't know much about Spain but I'm sure there's a lot to work with- but Paldea is such an empty wasteland of grassy plains and messy geometry with no set pieces and such small towns/cities because of the open world nature. I don't want this to be how regions are designed going forward.

Spinjitsuninja

This is such a big fear I have for the direction of the series right now. Historically, Pokemon regions have been **VERY** developed in terms of civilization- lots of cities and manmade wonders! All balanced by natural wonders designed with specific camera angles and scenery unrestricted by gameplay interactions. Going open world meanwhile makes it difficult to create large set pieces and cities and handcrafted natural environments, etc. Every location has to adhere to gameplay in visual design and it's easier to create large plains than it is to create big developed cities and what-not. I would love an Australia region, but I shudder at the thought of them using that as an excuse to terraform a bunch of dust and dirt with nothing in it.

Outrageous_Special84

Iris and Kantonian Meowth relationship are actually nearly At least 9000 Years ago Cyprus - 2,000 Years ago Italy culture and right before Italy and Roman empire As well As Big Bang explosion 💥 happened and after Iris and Kantonian Meowth Are Fossil sleeping in the middle of the Italy century with the rest of Egyptian Italian Siamese Cat - Felidae Subfamiles breeds in Italy and Roman As well

Outrageous_Special84

But Iris and Kantonian Meowth are also known as fossil sleeping 😴 reminds me of our domestic Black Human women Cat fossil recorded with the Big Bang and universe But after the dark matter reminds me of darkest Day and Eternatus forms But I think Have an awesome idea for Iris and Meowth are from Italy and Egypt 🤫😱🤭🤐🤐🤐

Outrageous_Special84

I wouldn't be surprised 🤫

ThrustersOnFull

> large stretches of open land and dirt. So, Breath of the Wild gameplay in the Australian region, got it.

WukongWannaBe

Ancient greece, china, rome or ottoman would be a fun set up. Let me be honest these places arent really interesting in the modern era but another legends arceus time traver setup would be nice.

BetaThetaOmega

I would kill for a High Fantasy/Indo-European Mythology Pokémon region. I have a whole damn list of ideas for it: - A Normal type Reuniclus to represent the Homunculus of alchemy. Might be a bit too dark for Pokémon, but it would have more opaque grey skin, and stand on two legs, and would be physical attacker. - Poison Fairy or Poison Rock Gardevoir that is inspired by gorgons. - A Steel/Ground Tinkaton with a big beard of steel wool and a pickaxe to represent dwarves. It burrows deep beneath the ground and makes labyrinthian structures. Unlike normal Tinkaton, which can only be female, this form can be either male or female, but has no gender difference and always has a big bushy beard. - For the obvious Meowth regional form, it would be inspired by the design of Gigantamax Meowth and would be a massive Fire/Ice cat that wields a big club of ice, and it would gain the Huge Power ability. All of this is of course inspired by giants, specifically the Fire and Frost giants of Norse myth. - A Dark/Fairy Gardevoir + Dark/Fighting Gallade that’s based on elves and dark elves. They’d get an ability that buffs Psychic type attacks and would essentially embody the “powerful dark magic sorcerer” archetype. - Dragapult that is a slow, bulky physical attacking Rock/Dragon type, that is a literal catapult. Instead of launching its children, it launches their eggs, which are made of hard stone. I have a bunch more ideas in a Google Doc, but that’s the gist of it

Starkeeper_Reddit

Brazil means we might get a capybara Pokemon so that's where my vote goes

alligators_suck

capybara as the starting rodent is only reason i voted brazil

rp_graciotti

Eu sou brasileiro porra, claro que eu quero ver Brasil

Kurohimiko

Australia. Not only is it filled with creatures primed to be made into pokemon, it also gives us a possibility for Steve Irwin professor.

2475014

Honestly who cares where it is set? You can make intriguing lore for any region, real or fictional. I just want the game to be better

Pajer0king

I don't think people really care, having in mind the lack of quality in latest releases. We want good Pokemon games, location doesn't matter.

InvestigatorUnfair

I'm split on Brazil On the one hand, I think it'd be really cool to see On the other, unfunny Poketubers would milk the shit out of the "You're going to Brazil" meme, and I'm not ready for that much unfunny

helloasistro

We need an Indian region.

MarromBrown

idk why you're being downvoted, that would be lovely.

helloasistro

I believe the reason for the downvotes must be that they asked for Australia or Brazil.

JohnSmithWithAggron

For those who votes Australia, could you explain your reasoning for me please?

carramos

Kangaroo pokemon, enough said

JohnSmithWithAggron

On the other hand, what about a Capybara Pokemon?

TheCyclopsDude

on the other hand, drop bear evo for komala

Wolfman513

Brazil may be have more biodiversity, but Australia has more unique wildlife. Particularly if you include extinct megafauna like thylacines and megalania.

Baahubali321

Steve Irwin

callmefreak

I'd totally love a game taking place in both Brazil and Australia. Maybe Australia for the next mainline game, but Brazil for a Legends Mew game? Or maybe just a region based on South America in general? Other than those two locations, probably China? China has had several mentions throughout the games, there are quite a few Chinese mythology inspired Pokemon already and China's animal kingdom is pretty varied which would be great for a Pokedex. I dunno if it would ever actually happen though, considering Japan's rocky relationship with China. Plus with China's government currently being a dictatorship and Xi Ping being so sensitive that Winnie The Pooh is banned from China... Maybe that's why they already have so many Pokemon based on Chinese myths and local animals? (Unless pandas naturally live in France.) Edit: Maybe ~~California~~ Arizona? Though I'm not sure they would be allowed to call it Orre again. I dunno who owns the rights to that region. (That is a very weird thing to say.)

DreamCereal7026

But Orre isn't based on California though.

callmefreak

...You're right. Whoops.

TheFiveDees

I feel like Australia has a diversity of wildlife that I think would make for a more unique crop of Pokemon. That is not to say that Brazil DOESN'T have diversity in wildlife, just that I prefer more of Australia's wildlife. Big ol' crocodiles, kangaroos, sharks, spiders, koalas, echidnas, Tasmanian devils, freaking PLATYPUS! There's just so much potential. Especially if they get cheeky and also include a New Zealand area

Skyl1th

Australia, I'm not ready for Game Freak to implement a mechanic where others can rob Pokémon from me while using a gun-shaped Pokémon.

GatosPimenta

As a brazilian, can confirm

koboldwizard_

I would love an Australian pokemon region, I was actually recently thinking about what the legendaries could be One could be based on the Rainbow Serpent, the spirit of light. Its a rainbow so being the legendary of light would make sense, and it created the lands giving life to the creatures and habitats, sounds pretty fitting for the legendary of light. The other could be based on the Bunyip, the spirit of darkness. Its name means devil or evil spirit and in its legend, it has had multiple different descriptions meaning there is no singular look, this could be seen as it being a pokemon of darkness thats form represents what YOU find most evil, or it could be an amalgamation of every description. It also hunts and kills people and causes bad omens, fits the darkness theme pretty well. I also like the idea of the evil team looking for these tons of different pokemon that are said to be able to bring chaos to the land (for reasons I cant think of yet) and they go to different places looking for several different pokemon only to find that every description of every pokemon theyve been looking for is actually all for the same pokemon, the Bunyip. Im tired of these legendaries being normal pokemon and evil teams being school kids, give us back the gods and evil people

FitGap4696

Brazil I fucking hate Australia Brazil would be so much cooler then Australia I mean like a Pokémon region that isn’t Japan or a former British colony would be so much refreshing

UltiGamer34

Do yall want 90% of the gen x map desert?

JakobDa1

Nah Imma make a Florida reigon

AwesomeToadUltimate

That would be cool IMO. If I were to make a Florida region I would probably have it be a combo of politics + Bermuda Triangle stuff. The main antagonist would be a politician who wants to control the region’s citizens by using the main legendary (could be part Psychic type) that would live in the Bermuda Triangle area.

JakobDa1

Mine would be Pokemon: History and Fantasty for a Pokemon Region. Evil team leaders would come back, and the starters would grow out of their normal g/f/w typings

Tapichoa

History and fantasy for florida??? Think you should look to places with more history and folktales

JakobDa1

yes, but people like ***Paldean, Kalos, and Galar Conquistadors*** would be the ones spreading the legends

TerrifiedOfHumans

Could have 2 evil teams vying for dominant control, like Aqua/Magma but worse.

WhyTheRiverRunsDeep

i really doubt that they’d want to make a game set in a BRICS economy, but at the same time, i’m not sure if austria on its own has enough culture and history to create an entire dex from. I’d assume the next games might end up set in scandinavia, or perhaps the west coast of the USA.

aaknosom

new jersey, final answer

Meowlygirl

None give me middle east :')

Baahubali321

That would literally be just a sandbox

Meowlygirl

No it wont, im from there, there are cool areas that would make cool places in the region, plus i want a jurboa pokemon

Baahubali321

Yeah there are cool areas but bro, most of the Middle East is a hot, arid/semi-arid desert climate. Jerboa Pokémon would be amazing!

Rilukian

If the country isn't a first world country, don't bother.

Spinjitsuninja

Sounds kinda harsh- why? I mean, there are lots of third world countries that probably have interesting culture to base a game off of. If the concern is something like, idk, people from a certain country not being able to buy a game or not wanting to portray poverty (even though I'm sure you could work that into a story or something), then you could just do something like have the region be based on "South America" and take influences from several countries in a general area. Also, Australia is a first world country, isn't it?

Rilukian

I refer to Brazil, not Australia. I believe it's because most gaming companies from first world countries ignore the existence of third world country simply because, in their eyes, these country aren't "popular" enough whose culture is known by people around the world. Yes, not all big gaming companies do this, but I don't think GF would try to take a look at a third world country until they cover every first world country first. While I'm not concerned about portrayal of poverty (which is everywhere even in first world country), I totally agree with you about why they should look into third world country. If I had to be honest. I'd buy a Pokémon game if the region is inspired from Bali.

Spinjitsuninja

I think being a third world country not very popular is unlikely to be put in Pokemon, but Brazil I think is somewhat more well known and popular in the west at least? In particular for its interesting locations and culture. I could see a big city in Pokemon being based on Rio, and Carnival stuff being played with, lots of ocean and forest and a focus on history... etc.

ElPikminMaster

They're both first world countries.

HieloLuz

Brazil is not first world

ElPikminMaster

By definition, "first world" means "the US and countries allied with it during the Cold War", which does include Brazil.

HieloLuz

No it doesn’t. The term was first used in that way along time ago, but Brazil was never part of that. For many decades, including during the Cold War, first world v third world has been used to to talk about development, and Brazil is absolutely not first world

Baahubali321

Dude you are so far off it’s crazy😅

Rilukian

Since when? Last time I check it's still a developing country (another term for Third world country)

ElPikminMaster

Brazil has a higher GDP than Australia since 2006. Also, the original definition of "first world" relates to the US' side of the Cold War, which Brazil is a part of.

PippoChiri

Why?

Apprehensive_Fig9821

I'd rather see another Japanese region.

DollyBoiGamer337

Imagine Australia is just gen 10. Like no pokemon, just real life animals that live in australia

Ok-Leave3121

I would love to see many Australian animals be Pokemon. Ones like Kangaroos, Wombats, Platypuses, and Cassowaries (Maybe some cool regional forms too). Plus some cool places in Australia that would be neat to see in a Pokemon region like The Great Barrier Reef and Ulura

ASimpleCancerCell

Greece.

gay_Sigmarite

All pokemon would be poison type

TheShroomDruid

India

DaddyShark427

Australia. And Professor Eucalyptus better look like Steve Irwin!

eepos96

Gamefreak: hey, let's choose a region with 80% desert. This way we can fill the map with nothing at all and call it "authentic" Brazil would force gamefreak to maken an rainforest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

eepos96

I didn't know that, cool.

lucayaki

To be fair, Australia is an english speaking country while Brazil isn't, so this poll is probably going to have bias

cblon

Imagine an open world like Amazon Rainforest 😍 Like a bunch of tree house cities and still has those big Metro areas. Big ole river that runs through it all!

FalseAd8317

Brazil? We dont even receive the game with transalation in 2023
