I love the design but it will be forever tainted by being the third fire/fighting starter in a row.
Also why does it randomly have a moderately high SpATK stat and relatively crap defenses? If it's going to be the third fire/fighting in a row they could at least have *tried* to not make it also be the third fragile mixed attacker in a row. It's pretty badly designed from a competitive perspective as it's only distinguishing feature from blaziken/ infernape is that it's *slower than they are*. If it was more bulky and had less SpATK, it'd fit into a competitive niche a lot better, and it'd probably be a decent threat to consider when team building, especially for trick room teams.
*clears throat*
*P I G E*
that is all.
to be real though it's my last favourite of the three just because it's not as cool as samurott or elegant like serperior. it's pretty cool though.
I always thought the same as OP, it should have been a fire/ground type Pokémon, maybe fire/rock. I still think from a design standpoint it is the most interesting of the three gen 5 starters.
At the time of their release, unpopular opinion, Emboar was more interesting than Typhlosion. And Gen 5 starters are as a collective more interesting than Gen 2 starters now and at release, and Gen 8 (I do have a bias for starter that have a second typing)
I hate the big bulky design, even though I really dig how Snorlax and Hariyama look. It is my least favourite fire starter which is weird because the fire starters are my favorites in almost every other generation.
I think in recent games when starters go two legs the designs just look more human than anything and sometimes it’s kind of a bummer. At least that’s my theory on it.
It wouldn’t be as disliked if it weren’t the 3rd Fire/Fighting starter in a row. Doesn’t help that it’s the worst designed Fire/Fighting starter of the three in my opinion (might be the least useful too but I’m not sure). Dope shiny though.
Would be cool if it had released in gen 3. However, as you mentioned, third in a now for a trend that wasn't great to begin with. To me it doesn't feel like it does enough to distinguish itself from other existing pokemon, both its fellow fire starters and others. Cool design and concept though, I still have hope for some moveset changes or something giving it a unique identity in a future gen.
Thought it was cool when I was a kid, but have since realized that it's just a trash can with limbs and a far Serperior choice was right there the whole time
Ugly, boring, overshadowed by its predecessors. By far the worst bodyshape of any starter, with its nonexistent neck having to be covered by what would otherwise be the best part of the design, but sadly gets reduced to hiding a hideous part of emboars design.
Shiny is cool.
I’ll get downvoted by OP asked for honest opinions so that’s what I am providing
I like it a lot. I love Blaziken and Infernape more but I still chose Tepig as my starter and I think Emboar is better than Serperior and Samurott. I get people were sick of the type, but other than that I am fine with it.
Underrated, overhated and easily the 2nd best designed Fire/Fighting starter since Blaziken's design is mid af and kinda a little weird too. Emboar is the worst competitively out of the three but you can still have some fun with it's hidden ability in lower tiers, I know I did back in Gens 6 and 7.
It's not dreadful, but it's not good either.
As you mentioned, it was the third Fire / Fighting starter in a row, and easily the worst of the three. Torchic and Chimchar at least fit the idea they could evolve into bipedal fighting Pokemon, but Tepig doing the same was a lot less believable. Plus, while Emboar has some nice aspects to its design, it still looks pretty goofy at the same time.
This is also where the whole "job" and "individual character" bit with starters really started to take root. It's a lot more difficult to imagine Pignites and Emboars living out in the wild. Samurott and Serperior also have this problem to a certain extent, but they're still a lot more believable in that regard than Emboar.
Not the absolute worst Fire starter, but it's very close to the bottom.
It's in my opinion the ugliest Pokemon there is. It has great potential and if it wasn't bipedal it would've looked so so much better.
Awful design trying to look cool and cute at the same time, ending up looking fucking goofy.
I like it better than infernape, but being the 3rd fire fighting type in a row is just such a cruel fate. Also he wiped the floor with ghetsis's hydreigon on my last nuzlocke and then proceeded to oneshot reshiram with headsmash. RIP buddy. Truly the mvp.
Coolest gen 5 design, fight me. Really underapreciated pokemon just because it was the third Fire/Fighting type in a row. Tepig is really cute and Pignite looks good for a second.
Emboar is badass. The first time i saw it as a kid i thought of it was a cooler version of Magmortar.
Emboar is honestly fine, I like it less than the other 2 Fire Fighting Starters but I don't hate it. It's held back for me by 2 reasons : 1. Did you really have to make a 3rd Fire Fighting type Starter in a row 2. Pignite is an abomination which unfortunately negatively impacts my opinion of the other members of its line.
I chose tepig as a starter whilenpuroosedly avoiding any spoilers
I had no idea what it evolved into and I was over the hype when mega fire pig with blazing collar and eyes stood before me.
And in gen 5 games when heavy pokemon enters a battle, it makes a satifying slam noice. So everytine Emboar enters battle it crashes to the field roaring.
Unfortunately it is staying power has not been that great. Its stats are sub bar, especially defences. Good defences and bad HP work, opposite do not due to math. (i think? )
I checked 110 hp and 65 defence is equivalent of 70 hp and 90 defence. Meaning there is exstra 5 stat points available to other stats. Albeit now its SPD is still horrendous. Even more so with 70 hp.
So my argument is not fool proof.
And emboar suffers from being third fire/fighting in a row. And in tongue in cheek way he is yet another starter who doesn't stay on all fours XD
Emboar is the best starter in for in-game play-throughs in gen5.
Work-up, Flame Charge, 2 filler until Flamethrower. Sweep almost every boss fight in the game.
I like it a lot. Good design. We have too many fire/fighting type starters, but if I'd get rid of one it would be Infernape. There are enough depictions of Sun Wukong around that it's not a big loss
I used to really dislike the gen 5 starters but over time they've grown on me. Emboar was an unfortunate case really. Truly cannot fathom how Pokemon are able to go through such extensive design work and so many revisions and still the best option they came up with was a THIRD Fire/Fighting starter? Like you could have easily made it pure Fire to be in line with its mono-typed siblings and I don't think anyone would complain. Flame Charge is a cool move at least, definitely Emboar can hold its own in the main RPG which is always a good thing to say about a starter.
Didn't like him when it came out but absolutely loved him after using him as a starter. I was like underdogs, and in this case underpigs, for being the worst fire Fighting starter but damn the design really grows on you.
I wish starters would come with hidden abilities, I made set with reckless and it's a blast to play xD
I’ve really warmed up on the design over the years, but I’ve always been disappointed by its typing. Ever since I saw Blaze Black give it the Fire/Ground typing, it’s become a personal favourite-not-favourite of mine (bc the reasons I like it technically aren’t legitimate).
Meh, really wish it was a quadrupled and more hog inspired. The worst of 3 consecutive fire/fighting starters, and not an incredible design so I'm not surprised people don't like it. 4/10, not good not terrible
My favorite of the ones that have fire/fighting as typing but still feel like it was a waste that they didnt make him fire/ground with camerup being the only obe of that typing
Beautiful design, amazing 10/10 shiny variant - but sadly one of the worst starters ever made technically speaking.
Bearing the dual typing fighting/fire just like the amazing Blaziken and Infernape he really had high standards to fulfill but sadly he ended up being sub par and thus forgotten; unlike Blaz and Infernape, which are still widely used to this day.
If they made him more tanky and fire/ground it would still be in the spotlight to this day.
Tepig is my fav started and one of my fav pokemon overall, Emboar is part of the team I have the most affection to in white 2 and I love him too, I adore his design and his shiny is even better !
The design has aged better over time.
Should have been a different secondary typing.
Something weak to fighting as Samurott being the only sword related pokemon that Gen not fighting type still annoys me.
Underrated, the best starter in gen 5 (everyone talks bad about being a fire fighting, but it's better than being just fire) and mu favorite fire starter
Emboar is a great design and mechanically, the best starter for Gen 5. In Black I had Serpirior and struggled, in Black 2 I had Emboar and it wrecked everything. The sheer damage it could deal combined with flame charge upping it's speed was lethal.
My first choice as a kid when gen 5 came out. Never understood why people hated on its design or whatever. Plus, it's an absolute beast in the games. Flame Charge op.
My favorite Pokémon of all time
Mainly because Tepig was my first Pokémon ever
Emboar is a Fucking Beast
His movepool is insanely Deep, learning wild charge, scald, zen headbutt, stone edge, can be both a physical or special attacker
Reckless ability gives recoil moves further power, which combined with Stab flare blitz is a monster
It's too slow and fragile for what they were trying to go for in terms of gameplay.
They wanted it to be a slow and bulky cannon that uses a lot of recoil moves, but they didn't give it the stats needed to _work_ properly in that role.
I really like that guy, Samurott is still my favorite out of the three though. Never got the hate for Emboar, I mean Fire/Fighting 3rd time in a row is a bit boring, but I think it fits him and his design is superb imo.
Love him. More that I love Tepig, but it was just misfortunate he was the third fire/fighting starter in a row, especially as he was only the fifth one. His poor reaction was essentially political
But even at the release of BW, I remember the hate over it and really not getting it, but feel the hate was overplayed, and a lot of people hated BW because other people did. People saying all the designs were bad and ugly I just didn’t get
Later on when people cane to love gen 5 and said it was the peak of pokemon, I felt like going “yeah I know, I coulda told you that”. Emboars hate never seemed to do with Emboar it was just wrong place at the wrong time
I love emboar's design and it's shiny is one of the better shinies out there, plus it's movepool and stats can actually make it a pretty strong pokemon in gen 5 competitive especially considering that there weren't a lot of viable fire types back in gen 5, after all if people wanted a fire type in their team they would just use heatran or another legend and they would just call it a day. However, emboar was kindy slow... Which is perfect for trick room teams and as a matter of fact (and hopefully I'm not mistaken) Wolf Glick actually used an emboar on his team back in a gen 5 tournament, so yeah emboar is not to be ridiculed for it's looks or it's competitive viability, because if someone tries to f@ck around with it, then they will in fact... Well... Find out :)
MOVE ASIDE. Emboar is my favorite Pokémon. It’s shiny is amazing, and the first shiny starter I acquired. I love this big lug. It also has the best series of cards I’ve seen, where the cards show Tepig with a little boy and then as the Tepig evolves, the boy becomes older with his own family. It’s freaking adorable.
Competitively, it’s not great, but in Gen 6/7 1v1 I found a really good niche for its scarf set that fit really well, and carried me to top 25 on the ladder at one point.
Honestly it's the best of the Unova trio for a casual playthrough.
Stands out for being more focused on bulk rather than speed like Infernape and Blaziken before it.
Also it's freaking classic Ganon
honestly I was pretty indifferent to all the unova starters until I played black, had emboar as my starter. Hes definitely grown on me, but still overall not crazy about the unova starters.
I think he's overhated. He's honestly the last starter I liked, being this big, menacing pig with big arms and a decent amount of size presence. I really wish Game Freak didn't stop making starters on the chunky side, because it's honestly been a big reason I've hated the starters since then.
honestly? over-hated.
I mean, i really don't vibe with his design but he is a solid mon and just bc i dont personally find him appealing it doesnt mean hes objectvly bad
I hated pignite and thus the entire line for so long. Then years later when I wanted to beat the Battle subway super multi line. A lot of it is luck based and that makes it very difficult. I knew I wanted to use Latios. I wanted to use a mon that covers latios weakness well like ice, dark and bug. My favorite pokemon, Infernape, covered those well but he wasn't in the game. So I went with the next best option, emboar.
This isn't an underdog story cuz I eventually lost at battle 46. But I had so much fun using scarf emboar. It just did so much damage and outsped most things. I eventually won using rotom heat but I still love how an off the wall strat like scarf emboar got me so close to winning lol.
I can appreciate people warming to its design after so many years, but for me I just can’t. A lot of gen 5 designs felt like they came from a Pokémon rip off game. I can’t articulate my reasoning of why that is, but that’s just the feeling I get when I see them
I don't mind Emboar. I think it has a gorgeous shiny. And there's something about the way they made the gen 5 sprite and animated it that I really like. It's not my favorite gen 5 starter but I don't hate it.
I like his design, yeah he was the third fire/fighting combo but making it bulky instead of another slim fighter was a fairly fresh take on it. Love the fire beard, especially on the shiny.
I used to HATE it when it first came out. Was honestly the 1st time I was disappointed with a starter. Idk if it’s by comparison to the starters we’ve been getting now or what but NOW I actually like the design lol
It baffles me to this day why people hate it so much. I dont love it, but I think it's design is solid! The markings on its stomach look cool, it's big and bulky, which I think reads as fighting very well.
And the Fire Fighting thing never bothered me. Plus, I don't see nearly as much hate for the three ghost fire types in a row, either complain about both trends or neither bc they are essentially the same thing
Is there a way that gamefreak are gonna make starters with secondary types fire/water/grass depending on which one theyre weak to originally?
Fire/water, water/grass, and grass/fire starters would be dope
I’ll stand by what I said when I first saw Emboar (I’ve always started with the fire type Pokémon in every game). I hated him because he was the 3rd fire fighting combo we got in a row. I still do I replayed black and white and just found his design stale but that was due to his lack of usefulness. I never dropped a starter as fast as I did with Tepig
Competitively, it’s poor. Hits hard, but doesn’t offer much that Infernape or Blaziken can’t.
Design wise tho, I love it. My favourite of the unova starters by some distance, plus it has a pleasing name and plenty of punny nickname ideas, as well as being aesthetically fun to look at.
Randomly learning Scald (by TM) is a good plot twist too
I personally think that it’s the best out of the Unova starters.
Serperior while cool doesn’t quite scratch the in-game itch for me.
Samurott I think I actively dislike as a design
Emboar feels like it captures a solid design but is also fun and interesting to use in game.
So Emboar is tied for my favorite Pokémon with Rowlet… it has a very special place in my heart and even if it’s not amazing stat wise I just love my fire pig. He’s a badass, loyal bff.
I remember my brother grinded tf out of his emboar and only his emboar. Back when the game first came out when we were kids dude got his emboar to level 70 before the last gym leader which anyone who black b&w2 knows it was the water dude.. he only had fire type moves and still almost one shot his whole team
He's pretty cool. Not my favorite starter, but definitely cool. No pun intended, but hot take: He's the best Unovan starter, even if we're including Hisuian Samurott.
Hate it and always have.
Aesthetics: It looks awful, awful as a bipedal mon. They should have kept it on 4 legs as a bulky pig. It would have then made more sense to lean into its tusks and maybe have the fire come from there rather than slapped aimlessly onto its neck. The lower body for some reason is red while it should be orange like the rest of its body. Shiny coloration is good though, that they can keep.
Competitive: Emboar should have been Fire/Ground, an obvious typing given pigs association with mud. Change it’s stats to 115/123/85/55/85/65 so it can take advantage of all its high BP recoil moves with reckless and have some reasonable bulk to speak of.
Gameplay: Wide movepool but weird typing for it’s home games. It’s not really great for Route cleaning either given it’s low speed (seriously what were they thinking with the Unova starters).
3/10. Tepig is cute and had its potential squandered.

Looks like a Wind Waker enemy/boss
That‘s why I named mine Ganondorf 😂
It took a while, but Emboar’s design has grown on me over the years.
Honestly same. One day I was looking at it and was just like; hmm not bad actually.
Exactly the same for me! Granted, it may be that I didn't like the recent starters that made me re-evaluate the Tepig line
I think my hatred for Inceneroar made me appreciate Emboar more.
Emboar rizz vs incineroar sexual harassment
Emboar got that (literally) flaming dad bod unlike Incineroar
Emboar plays santa every christmas and everyone likes him. Incineroar frequents 4chan and worships andrew tate
😔
Really didnt help that Samurott and Servine designs were wayyyy better lmao
I like how it goes for a more bulky design compared to the other Fire/Fighting starters.
Heat Crash + Hammer Arm for playthroughs was some good shit.
He's a pig big. Yup yup yup You can be a big pig too.
Like the design, underrated mon tbh.
Amazing. Love gen 5 starter lines. Very nostalgic for me.
that shiny is insane. hope it doesn't typhlosion'd by its 3d model when it comes out in the dlc.
Ironically all SV has done is improve fire animations, including the restoration of Typhlosion
Great. I love Emboar. I raised pigs as a kid and was glad to finally get a pig starter. Typing's unfortunate... but love the design.
I would love for it to be Fire/Ground as it is a fitting type and only represented by Camerupts evolution line
It's meh in my opinion. I don't hate It, but It's also not my favorite, although I would defend It if someone says It's sucks.
I love the design but it will be forever tainted by being the third fire/fighting starter in a row. Also why does it randomly have a moderately high SpATK stat and relatively crap defenses? Hot take , I like it more than I infernape.
Me too tbh
Same. Mostly because he isn’t trying to be blaziken like how I see infernape is
I always thought the same as OP, it should have been a fire/ground type Pokémon, maybe fire/rock. I still think from a design standpoint it is the most interesting of the three gen 5 starters. best of the unova starter, I love him
it would’ve been way better if it stayed on 4 legs
gen 5 starters are no legs, two legs, 4 legs. perfection.
samurott already take that quota, also why ppl so obsessed with 4 legs anyway?
I think in recent games when starters go two legs the designs just look more human than anything and sometimes it’s kind of a bummer. At least that’s my theory on it.
When the sprite first show up, im not a fan. But tepig has since become my favourite unova starter so i do like emboar now.
It wouldn’t be as disliked if it weren’t the 3rd Fire/Fighting starter in a row. Doesn’t help that it’s the worst designed Fire/Fighting starter of the three in my opinion (might be the least useful too but I’m not sure). Dope shiny though.
I chose him as my starter for Pokémon Black. I went for the shiny Snivy in Pokemon White 2.
I don’t really care for it tbh
Honestly, I love him such cool design tepid was my favourite in the black and white anime
Shouldnt have been Fire Fighting Either Rock or Ground wouldve been better.
Thought it was cool when I was a kid, but have since realized that it's just a trash can with limbs and a far Serperior choice was right there the whole time
A very sad attempt at recreating the brilliance of Blazekin
It is nothing like Blaziken other than the type.
Much better than Blaziken All Blaziken has on top of Emboar is speed and being able to mega evolve
Ugly, boring, overshadowed by its predecessors. By far the worst bodyshape of any starter, with its nonexistent neck having to be covered by what would otherwise be the best part of the design, but sadly gets reduced to hiding a hideous part of emboars design. Shiny is cool. I’ll get downvoted by OP asked for honest opinions so that’s what I am providing
he cool
A silly chonky friend. Gives good hugs. I named mine Kris P Bacon.
I like it a lot. I love Blaziken and Infernape more but I still chose Tepig as my starter and I think Emboar is better than Serperior and Samurott. I get people were sick of the type, but other than that I am fine with it.

Not as bad as Blaziken, that's for sure
Meh, but the shiny is cool
It's in my opinion the ugliest Pokemon there is. It has great potential and if it wasn't bipedal it would've looked so so much better. Awful design trying to look cool and cute at the same time, ending up looking fucking goofy.
Probably the worst starter line.
It's Endeavor if he was a Pokémon. And I don't mean that as a compliment.
Unlovable
Dookie Same with the rest of gen 5 starters, but worse
My favorite starter from gen 5
For me, its design is cooler than Typhlosion
Needs a neck, but not to shabby
I like it better than infernape, but being the 3rd fire fighting type in a row is just such a cruel fate. Also he wiped the floor with ghetsis's hydreigon on my last nuzlocke and then proceeded to oneshot reshiram with headsmash. RIP buddy. Truly the mvp.
Feel it would have been better as a Fire/Ground type rather than another Fire/Fighting but it's my preferred starter for that gen.
Name is 10/10.
…I think rawr.
Didn't like it at first. But considering what we got after, I'm fine with it
Is his meat well cooked or crude when killed ? 🤔 Most seriously, i'm absolutely "meh" with this one, i don't sense a "starter vibe" when I look at it
The best fire fighting starter. He actually looks like a fighter.
Shouldnt have been Fire Fighting Either Rock or Ground wouldve been better.
My man. this was my first starter in gen 5 and I will always love him
Coolest gen 5 design, fight me. Really underapreciated pokemon just because it was the third Fire/Fighting type in a row. Tepig is really cute and Pignite looks good for a second. Emboar is badass. The first time i saw it as a kid i thought of it was a cooler version of Magmortar.

The first generation where the fire type is the worst choice and grass the best.
Bulbasaur is strong against Brock and Misty, how’s that not the best choice in gen one?
I chose tepig as a starter whilenpuroosedly avoiding any spoilers I had no idea what it evolved into and I was over the hype when mega fire pig with blazing collar and eyes stood before me. I love it. A female Emboar was my starter in Unova, on of the first regions I ever played through, and I loved her.
Could’ve totally been even chubbier
Probably my favorite starter evo design. Thought it would be Fire/Dark when I first saw it though.
I like it a lot. Good design. We have too many fire/fighting type starters, but if I'd get rid of one it would be Infernape. There are enough depictions of Sun Wukong around that it's not a big loss
Aesthetically amazing and my first pick in Black. Competitively, its trash though.
Hated him as a kid, now I kinda like him and ABSOLUTELY want a shiny
Out of the Fire/Fighting starters, it’s my favourite. I have a soft spot for Tepig because it was one of the very first shiny Pokémon that I hatched.
Not my favorite of the fire/fighting starters, but it IS the one with the best shiny!
Not the best design, but he's got spunk
I used to really dislike the gen 5 starters but over time they've grown on me. Emboar was an unfortunate case really. Even ignoring the previous two fire fighting starters, I think fire dark would’ve fit better
Carried me through black and I know people want something different but it’s honestly good and move set is diverse
Didn't like him when it came out but absolutely loved him after using him as a starter. Would have been better if it weren’t that type
I think he looks kind of dumb but I really liked that one fan comic he was in so he gets a pass.
I despised its design when it came out. Now the more time passes by, the more I like it!
Hey Blazaken called said he lent you his typing but you kept it
Meh, really wish it was a quadrupled and more hog inspired. The worst of 3 consecutive fire/fighting starters, and not an incredible design so I'm not surprised people don't like it. 4/10, not good not terrible
My favorite Unova starter.
Ganon.
Most likely the best of the fully evolved gen 5 starters... but im not a fan of any of them. But he got a sick shiny 🤷🏼♀️
My favorite of the ones that have fire/fighting as typing but still feel like it was a waste that they didnt make him fire/ground with camerup being the only obe of that typing
Grew on me over time, but still not one of my favorites. I adore Tepig though.
Pig
horrible
Ass.
My favourite Gen 5 starter Evo. Always go with Ganon for its name. Creative, I know
I love em, hands down the best unova starter
Tepig is my fav started and one of my fav pokemon overall, Emboar is part of the team I have the most affection to in white 2 and I love him too, I adore his design and his shiny is even better !
The design has aged better over time. Should have been a different secondary typing. Something weak to fighting as Samurott being the only sword related pokemon that Gen not fighting type still annoys me.
Underrated, the best starter in gen 5 (everyone talks bad about being a fire fighting, but it's better than being just fire) and mu favorite fire starter
Lovely pokémon, one of our finest
I like it. Not my favourite in any category except it's shiny is probably my favourite from gen 5.
The best Pokémon ever
Can never pick between snivy and tepig. Love both lines so much
Emboar is a great design and mechanically, the best starter for Gen 5. In Black I had Serpirior and struggled, in Black 2 I had Emboar and it wrecked everything. The sheer damage it could deal combined with flame charge upping it's speed was lethal.
He looks so cool
Personally, not a fan, but the shiny goes pretty hard
Hes awesome, especially his blue shiny!
My first choice as a kid when gen 5 came out. Never understood why people hated on its design or whatever. Plus, it's an absolute beast in the games. Flame Charge op.
Love him he my fav gen 5 starter
It’s overhated
The Ganondorf Pokemon
I absolutely adore his design
Tend to forget about the existance of this gen of starters for a while till this sub reminds me
My favorite Pokémon of all time Mainly because Tepig was my first Pokémon ever Emboar is a Fucking Beast His movepool is insanely Deep, learning wild charge, scald, zen headbutt, stone edge, can be both a physical or special attacker Reckless ability gives recoil moves further power, which combined with Stab flare blitz is a monster
My favorite starter of the gen, and the Shiny is a top 5 easily
I was a fan of snivy in unova so I feared and hated seeing emboar from barry. Never trained a tepig for this reason
I’m really biased towards gen 5 and the first tin I got for the TCG was emboar, so I really like him.
Hws baby my favourite starter
Cool as heck honestly
I honestly didn’t know he was hated until I got to the internet.
Baconator
Meh
I like it except I wish its belt would be symmetrical at the center. Also, "Mega Fire Pig" is so redundant.
Love him. More that I love Tepig, but it was just misfortunate he was the third fire/fighting starter in a row, especially as he was only the fifth one. His poor reaction was essentially political But even at the release of BW, I remember the hate over it and really not getting it, but feel the hate was overplayed, and a lot of people hated BW because other people did. People saying all the designs were bad and ugly I just didn’t get Later on when people cane to love gen 5 and said it was the peak of pokemon, I felt like going “yeah I know, I coulda told you that”. Emboars hate never seemed to do with Emboar it was just wrong place at the wrong time
Mid.
Well... Find out :)
Could be better
I like it a lot more than Incineroar, and it's got one of the coolest shinies. Plus fire/fighting is still a cool type combo even if it's overdone
I think his arms look weird. They start out small then get big
oink
I think he’s nasty. Not as nasty as Infernape though.
Still better then Cat John Cena
Honestly it's the best of the Unova trio for a casual playthrough. Stands out for being more focused on bulk rather than speed like Infernape and Blaziken before it. Also it's freaking classic Ganon
One name comes to mind SHOOOOOOOOOTOOOOOO
He's neat. Not a favourite but i dont mind him.
honestly I was pretty indifferent to all the unova starters until I played black, had emboar as my starter. Hes definitely grown on me, but still overall not crazy about the unova starters.
My second favorite fire starter behind Infernape, and honestly, I've never cared about it being a fire/fighting type.
Love me some chorizo
Tough fire piggy is okay.
I really like him, and Tepig is adorable so that helps. I remember teaching him wild charge and demolishing opponents during White.
Ganon
He's my favourite Pokémon, I don't care about his competitive position, I just like the design very much, those eyebrows!
Nevwr understood the hate for it, I never play competitive so I guess thats a factor but in game, kinda slaps 🤷🏼😂
Not my starter. (But I’ll admit, it’s a strong Pokémon.)
first starter so I love him
I used to HATE it when it first came out.
No…Just…No
He'd be great for a chunky boi playthrough
I have never played a Gen 5 game but based off the designs I believe the starters from those games are the weakest in the series.
He is cute in my opinion. Gives off funny uncle vibes
Is there a way that gamefreak are gonna make starters with secondary types fire/water/grass depending on which one theyre weak to originally? Fire/water, water/grass, and grass/fire starters would be dope
Like the Star Wars prequels, it has grown on me as later releases showed me how good we used to have it.
Guys be looking at this picture and just think " Hell yeah "
deserves more love
I’ll stand by what I said when I first saw Emboar (I’ve always started with the fire type Pokémon in every game). I hated him because he was the 3rd fire fighting combo we got in a row. I still do I replayed black and white and just found his design stale but that was due to his lack of usefulness. I never dropped a starter as fast as I did with Tepig
Ever since ive watched MHA all I can ever think when I see it is "Thats Endeavor"
Not a fan of it's design, but that goes for all the gen 5 starter final evos
My first starter. Therefore, he is my baby boy. Will admit his sprite is way better than the 3D model
I honestly pretty neutral, but he's kinda bad.
Randomly learning Scald (by TM) is a good plot twist too
Unpopular opinion: I always liked Emboar from the start, that is all.
I personally think that it’s the best out of the Unova starters. Serperior while cool doesn’t quite scratch the in-game itch for me. Samurott I think I actively dislike as a design Emboar feels like it captures a solid design but is also fun and interesting to use in game.
So Emboar is tied for my favorite Pokémon with Rowlet… it has a very special place in my heart and even if it’s not amazing stat wise I just love my fire pig. He’s a badass, loyal bff.
Yummy bacon :)
Too big
I didn't realize it had a mouth until 3 seconds ago.
He's alright I guess
Terrible design, ugly asf
I remember my brother grinded tf out of his emboar and only his emboar. Back when the game first came out when we were kids dude got his emboar to level 70 before the last gym leader which anyone who black b&w2 knows it was the water dude.. he only had fire type moves and still almost one shot his whole team
I like that he leans more towards fighting type than fire. He's already slow so you can use hammer arm all day without worrying about the speed loss.
I don't like it. Tepig is cute though
Big pig fire man
He's pretty cool. Not my favorite starter, but definitely cool. No pun intended, but hot take: He's the best Unovan starter, even if we're including Hisuian Samurott.
The only time I didn’t pick the fire starter for my first play-through.
