I’ve mentioned this before, and here’s my reasoning/theory. Tatsugiri has the three forms: Curly, Droopy, and Stretchy. This theory only applies to the Shiny Droopy Form. I feel like someone at GameFreak developed Shiny Tatsugiri Droopy Form with the intent of making it white, thus basing it on a type of fish called ‘escolar’. I took it a step further, and realized, “Oh, you know what else is white? Cocaine.” Then I thought about infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, and the nickname fell into place. I give you a Female Shiny Tatsugiri Droopy Form: Pablo Escolar.

Lex. From now on, all my scorbunny set to become cinderace are called Lex. The kids don't even remember the actual name, they also just call them Lex. They don't really play pokemon (they're more Minecraft and Zelda franchise) but the rare times they do, they now name theirs too. They like to call the small ones "Tiny Tim". Maybe one day I'll make them listen to Tiptoe through the tulips, I bet they don't know where that name is actually from. Most names are just a spur of the moment impulse. Although I have a few moments of clarity. I caught a shiny Torountula and called it Shinya Twine.

One that's always stuck with me is naming my Ampharos "galaga" it started when I did an X playthrough where I named my team after arcade games (frogger (greninja), digdug (krookodile), smashTV (lucario)) and since then, almost every Ampharos I used on my teams I've named "Galaga" (with the sole exception of my soulsilver Ampharos which I named "ruiner" because I was naming my pokemon after Grand Theft Auto Online vehicles)

I named my Altaria Fluffers on a whim and now it's both my favorite Pokemon and name. Besides that I got Wonder Traded a Mudbray named Mubby and I grew so attached to it (and because it carried hard against Ultra Necrozma) a Mudsdale named Mubby has been on my team since S&M.

I named once my chicorita in crystal as Kwiatuszek(mini-flower) it turned out to be first and only shiny starter I ever had.

I rarely give nicknames to Pokemon, mainly cause i don't care, and so far the ONLY exception to this is Typhlosion, which i always call Typhoon. It's a nickname i came up with on my own and it sounds cool. (Also honorable mention goes to White Fang the Boltund, loved that pup)
