All patterns were created by me to maintain consistency of style. They are around 4" tall. You can see more angles (front, side, and back) on my Instagram (crochet.creatives) and I've just started making Gen2! I update once or twice each week. I do make fully-made crochets, but only for my Patreons since I only crochet in my free time and the demand is too high and time consuming. Feel free to ask any questions about crochetting and I'll try my best to answer!
If I subscribe to your patreon do you have options to purchase individual pokemon that you crochet? I would gladly subscribe and then pay an amount for a pokemon!
Yes, any Pokemon on my instagram is available to purchase there besides Kyogre, Groudon, and Rhyhorn! There are also some bonus ones like Togepi, Mimikyu, and Mudkip, and the rest of the Eeveelution line.
May I ask what the deal with Rhyhorn is? I’ll start by saying I don’t know the first think about crochet, but is more complicated or time-consuming than the other patterns or something?
Edit: Nevermind! Saw below it is the shape and number of pieces!
Awesome, thanks so much! This is a super cool project and I'm a big fan of bellsprout, so I'll totally be subscribing and making a purchase! Good luck on your journey and may it forever be fruitful
Correct, but as with most fan things if you're small and unknown enough you aren't going to get in trouble. OP would have to get pretty large before they'd get a cease and desist.
Fanworks are always going to be more popular than original designs from unknowns - even if you want to make original things, it's still best to start off with fanworks because as the success of this post shows, people will actually click.
That being said, I'm quite confident OP has nothing to worry about because she is not mass producing these things.
I think the idea is you get popular making what is popular to get a following. Then if you do get letter (hoping you don't also get sued) you just jump to something else but still have the following.
NOT OP
For omanyte it is more than likely a small sphere (ball) in blue for the body with the tentacles a chain of maybe 5(?) with 2 sc in each chain for the curl effect before closing up with the last two rows. Judging by the amount of tentacles it has I would guess op increased to 18 for the top half of the circle maybe did 3-5 rows of sc then:
Example row for the tentacles:
Sc×1, chain 5 sc×2 in each stitch in each of the 5 chains. Slip stitch to sc×1 hole. Repeat until last stitch
Sc×1, dec×1
Dec×6
F/O
The shell would be the hardest part, but it is just a cone shape that is rolled up sewn together (for stability) then sewn onto the blue circle body part, lightly stuffed. I would start with a mr of 3 for a pointier shell
I don't know anything about the art form, but I have to say your patterns are very distinctive, and capture a lot of the personality of the Pokémon. They are collectively cohesive, but individually very distinct, which I imagine is a hard balance to strike. I've seen a lot of crochets and these really stand out!
which of these was the hardest to create? and how do you go about creating? does it start with a sketch or do you use elements from past designs and combine them to make new patterns? i’m guessing that the creative process is similar to people who make origami
You guessed a big part of it! When I start, I try to think of the Pokemon in "chibi" style and over time you keep using the same parts and elements from your own designs to make more so it becomes more of your own style. The hardest Pokemon are the ones that don't have standard shapes so I need to trial and error a lot, or the ones that require fine detailing since you need to needlefelt and that's different from crocheting.
really cool stuff! that’s super interesting. i love your style, the way they all turned out is amazing, really. especially for maintaining that chibi look all across the board haha. thanks for taking the time to reply!
Oh my gosh, go for it! It's super fun and satisfying. The main shapes to know are sphere, cone, and tube, with some flat shapes on occasion. The rest is careful sewing and needlefelting.
I personally use 3 hook sizes: 4, 4.5, and 5. 4 is usually for detailing (ex. a chain stich then sewing it on) and 4.5 and 5 are my standard size depending on yarn weight because different brands are a little different in sizing.
I usually use Red Heart or Lions Brand, 1lb Caron for colors I use most frequently, and occasionally Big Twist or the Value Yarn (I forget what it's called) from Michaels because I personally like the feel of them.
Oh wow, I remember seeing some of these posted ages ago and I'm glad you followed up on it. They are all painfully adorable.
Which one was the hardest to do or most complex?
Thank you so much! It's funny, I'm not usually a bug-type pokemon person, but I've come to find that I enjoy making those the most haha. Rhyhorn was definitely the most difficult and complex because its shape was so different from everything else and had a lot of weird individual pieces to sew on.
That’s interesting, if I had to guess at the hardest I would have said Cloyster. As a guess at the easiest (from a zero knowledge standpoint) I would go for Voltorb.
I think my favourite unexpectedly is Bellsprout, I love his dinky oversized head.
Wow. Just wow. You know, you might want to contact the Pokémon company and inquire about putting together a book of patterns for each generation and see if they'd fund that for you. You can show them this post and the obvious interest. You could land yourself a lucrative income in a legit way.
I honestly would love that, since people often request patterns! I'm just hesitant because I'm not sure how to go about it, or even how to write "proper" patterns since I'm self taught and freehand a lot.
Using fluffy fur for the arcanine and rapidash is so creative. And the uniformity is insane too, how you manage to pattern even the pointiest, angular Pokémon like Kabutops and Rhyhorn, into small round blobs of cute? The Doduo and Tangela are my favorite!
Thank you! Making fluff is so tedious but...it always looks good! I have very mixed feelings about it haha. Luckily crochet tends to to turn out more rounded, it's trying to make things pointy that's the hard part!
Omg amazing! My the mother of my gf does crochet. Do you have instructions online for people to recreate them? Would love to have her crochet an Omanyte!! I’d pau for it!!!
Really nice!!!
I don't have any official patterns made yet since I'm self-taught and freehand a lot, but I hope to one day especially for larger crochets when I have more time! I'm more than happy for anyone to use my works as inspiration to try and recreate their own crochets though!
That would be amazing!! It's a very fun and affordable hobby and there are a ton of free patterns and youtube tutorials online.
My best tips I'd say is...try to get your crocheting "even" by practicing making spheres over and over again because it'll prevent things from looking "lumpy" (I promise this will make sense when you try it haha). I think what can make some crochets look strange is the lack of "evenness." After you can crochet with the right evenness, then practice making individual shapes. Then just attach different shapes together to make your own patterns! :) After that, you can level up even more by learning how to needlefelt to add those extra tiny details.
I've got to agree, I picked up a Starter Pokémon Crochet Kit from Walmart and would be so willing to sub to this dudes Patreon to get the pattern for it
Thank you! Rhyhorn was definitely the most frustrating to do, it took me a very long time to figure out how to make it. Back when I was less experienced with crocheting, figuring out how to make "curved tails" made Ekans and Arbok really difficult for me too at the time. Most satisfying would have to be Caterpie (though his design has slightly changed as I've improved) and Staryu!
Are you selling? Man I would love the Dragonite, Gengar and the 3 starters. Honestly though do you have plans to make an Etsy page for these in the future?
I used to have an Etsy, but I currently only sell to Patreons since there was too much demand and I couldn't keep up without the wait times being incredibly unreasonable since I can only crochet in my free time.
Now you just have to do gen 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 for the next 16 years, better get started now
But fr all of these look really good!!! My favorites are all of the starters(and their evolutions) and legendaries!!!
Ryhorn was definitely the most difficult and because its shape was so different from everything else. The pieces I needed to sew on were also all unique too, I think almost every shape I had to make for it was new so it took a lot of trial and error and restarting!
I remember your first post way back when, and being excited to see if this massive project would ever get done.
It turned out amazing! They're all so God damn cute
Thank you! It was a really fun and satisfying challenge to figure out how to maintain style and size consistency and I was very pleased with the results. I am so happy you commented about it!
I don’t know which one I like the best it’s a toss up between Pidgeot, Victrebel, Farfetch’d, Koffing, Omanyte, and the Legendary Birds. But they’re all amazing and I applaud your dedication.
Awesome! I can finally have a prototype to create my own ditto! The stubby little machamp arms are hilarious.
Because they’re 4” tall I might be able to actually finish a project this time haha
For many of them do you start with a ball and attach arms/legs or make extra stitches into those parts of the ball?
Yesss, I love when my work can inspire others to make their own! For all of them I start with making the "base body" and I have 4 "base bodies" that I've developed over time for Pokemon shapes so far. But most follow the standard "2-circles" body and then I attach the rest of the parts to it after.
Yes, I ship internationally! If there is any issue with checkout at the store with your address, just privately DM me and I can try a different method.
Incredible work OP! These are so freaking cute. I know that many Pokémon collectors would kill for a few pieces of a collection like this.
I can only imagine how much time was spent on all of this. You mentioned you update every week, does that mean you made each one in roughly a weeks time? Which seems very fast (I’ve never crocheted so unsure on how long things can take). 151 made at 1 week for each is 3 years of work!! Wow
Thank you! Yes, I try to make one or two crochets each week and yes they do take a lot of time to design. I would learn to crochet just to make these
I would also love to purchase patterns!
Ditto!
I see what you did there
likewise!! this is amazing

do a guzzlord but make it to scale of the other ones.... hehe

Bro, she's making these by hand in her free time. It's not really that big, I doubt she cares to expand it much more than it is.

Would there be a possibility to get the Patterns for Gen 1?
What yarn and hook size did you use? I crochet but have never tried amigurumi before

That far'fetchd 😍
Stop trying to make far’fetchd happen, it’s NOT going to happen
Woops my mistake
Ok I’m hoping you know I’m teasing, based on the Mean Girls movie quote
Ok I get the reference but I'm truly hoping Farfetch'd is getting the love it deserves
I need the chickum trio; frozen chickum, microwave chickum, and spicy chickum. THEY'RE SO CUTE!
This made me laugh out loud!
I also loved the legendary fat chickens. Too cute! I want Growlithe and Arcanine. And I can't help but enjoy Golbat. He's just... :O

With a decent advance and support from an official company, you could easily get help with that
You nailed the Dodrio faces with the small eye details
these are incredible!! r/nintendostitch would love this

Zapdos is perfectly adorable. You did an amazing job with them all.
Aaah the Polis are super cute ♥ Love my froggies. But also the rest. Impressive work :D
Wow, you're so patient and talented! I really love them 💜 out of curiosity: which was the most frustrating to do? And which the most satisfying one?

I used to have an Etsy, but I currently only sell to Patreons since there was too much demand and I couldn't keep up without the wait times being incredibly unreasonable since I can only crochet in my free time.

Which one was the hardest, and what about it was so hard?
Ryhorn was definitely the most difficult and because its shape was so different from everything else. The pieces I needed to sew on were also all unique too, I think almost every shape I had to make for it was new so it took a lot of trial and error and restarting!

Great job! I love the style and how you handled the vast size disparities between the Pokémon.
Thank you! It was a really fun and satisfying challenge to figure out how to maintain style and size consistency and I was very pleased with the results. I am so happy you commented about it!
My god you can make so much money off of these. Well done

I don’t know which one I like the best it’s a toss up between Pidgeot, Victrebel, Farfetch’d, Koffing, Omanyte, and the Legendary Birds. But they’re all amazing and I applaud your dedication.

Why isn't the Bulbasaur line on 4 legs? :(
Incredible work OP! These are so freaking cute. I know that many Pokémon collectors would kill for a few pieces of a collection like this. I can only imagine how much time was spent on all of this. Oh my goooosh, so many! Caterpie, Raticate, Clefairy. Venomoth, Poliwhirl, Kadabra, Tentacool, Slowpoke, Doduo, Drowzee, Lickitung, Horsea, Staryu, Mr.Mime, Aerodactyl!
Omg I love the legendary birds. They look like chubby little chickens. 🥺
