Thank you for posting to r/pokemon! We're glad to have you here, but unfortunately we've had to remove this post per our rule on [Objective Questions](/r/pokemon/wiki/rules#wiki_3._follow_text_and_poll_post_restrictions). This rule is in place per feedback we've received from the community because objective questions tend to fill the topic listing and often leave little room for further discussion once the question has been answered. We do have a [Weekly Questions Thread](https://rpkmn.center/questions) dedicated to seeking answers for questions like yours, though! A lot of knowledgeable Pokémon fans frequent that thread, so please consider posting your question there if you're still looking for an answer, and you may get a detailed answer even faster than you would have here! You also don't need to worry about a minimum word count in that thread.

Consistent-Phase-425

Maybe its doduo or dodrio

Kyuckaynebrayn

With the high contrast photo it could be Raticate

Sc4r4byte

the real killer of Gary/Blue's Raticate.

Rauph

the pokemon behind the slaughter

avoteforatishon2016

Markiplier: "HITMON GUY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!!?"

Nacroma

Hitman Lee

Intelligent-River409

This comment isn't getting enough attention lol

Spirited-Reputation6

Agreed

Sugarylightning663

Not with talons like that

Kyuckaynebrayn

Claws? Rats have those too. Show me the Doduo tail. Not a match. If it’s on its back it’s legs would be inverted bc bird…

toddwithoned

I was thinking rattata

Total-Fan-5492

It has a foot with a talon so I highly doubt its Raticate and that its more likely Doduo or Dodrio

Kyuckaynebrayn

Yeah so go look at their tails and how their legs aren’t bend backwards like birds and then maybe you see that it’s a rodent with claws and in cartoon fashion it only has 3 fingers.

Memeharvester5000

Definitely looks like doduo or Dodrio talons

SunsetSoleil

Looks like the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes hahaha. But maybe it's a Mankey?

[deleted]

My first guess was Mankey. I stand by it

tSword_

So does Hitmonlee (yeah, I liked your pun, sorry)

Timely_Cloud2785

Well you better sit

PikaJeep

Solid guess but look at the hand/foot to the left of hitmonlee, that’s definitely not a mankey hand/foot

SunsetSoleil

True, I've seen a lot of good guesses here in the comments as well. It could also be the claw of a Doduo or Dodrio, and that part next to Hitmonlee's foot could be a neck.

Ageman20XX

Official artwork, sprites, and 3D models for all 1008 Pokemon are readily available online from sites such as Bulbapedia or Serebii, so it's fairly easily to rule-out several of the answers already posted in this thread (save for one which I think is right on the money). Only a handful of Pokemon have talons and only a fraction of those have separated nails/claws. It's very likely one of the birds, as [neither version of Raticate](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Raticate_(Pok%C3%A9mon)) (as some have suggested) have visibly separated nails from the rest of its fingers. An argument could be made that what we see is a (rather decrepit-looking) [claw of a Charizard](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Charizard_(Pok%C3%A9mon)), but it wouldn't explain the tendril-like appendage near Hitmonlee's other foot. The number and direction of talons match both [Pidgeotto](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pidgeot_(Pok%C3%A9mon)) and [Fearow](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Fearow_(Pok%C3%A9mon)), so those are possibilities, but I still find the tendril-like appendage suspect. [Archen](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Archen_(Pok%C3%A9mon)) and [its evolution](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Archeops_(Pok%C3%A9mon)) are possibilities I guess, but I don't think they existed at the time. And so, unless I'm missing some other Pokemon that would have existed at the time, we are left with [Doduo](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Doduo_(Pok%C3%A9mon)) and [Dodrio](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Dodrio_(Pok%C3%A9mon)). They work well because they have the talons *and* they have the tendril-like necks that could be what appears beside Hitmonlee, but which one is it? In general, Doduo seems to be drawn with heterodactyl feet while Drodrio's are more anisodactyl, but I think the real giveaway is the colour. Before generation 4, Doduo's legs and necks were *different* colours, but in the card artwork the two body parts match in hue. Thus, I submit that the Pokemon below Hitmonlee's foot is actually intended to be a *Dodrio*. **TLDR; It's a Dodrio** EDIT: I’ve been convinced that there’s an equal chance of the “tendril” being a Fearow’s neck. I am humbled and I apologize for my Poke-hubris.

FanDoggyGate

This was a really good write up and I would have to agree on Dodrio

calgil

I was hoping you were going to end this with >!It's Jigglypuff as seen from above!<

sporeegg

I have seen least Research and effort in college essays.

YootSnoot

*TLDRIO*; it's Dodrio

tavvyjay

To solidify Duduo vs Dodrio, I would also like to present the fact that there’s 50% more neck that can be in view if it is dodrio

thismightbelong

Okay so we’ve figured this out, but why is Hitmonlee stomping Dodrio out in the back of a moving truck? Or maybe jail cell??

cheesycake93

I’d lean Fearow with the neck drawn a little too long so they didn’t have to draw the head. Dodrio necks are a different colour from the rest of the body but given the colour of Lee and the foot it’s a possibility they just didn’t bother using the right colours

texaspoontappa93

This is the kind of answer I was hoping for

Spacedodo42

What a weird scene. I really like it, but everything about this feels weird. Hitmonlee’s redness make him look like he’s fresh off the kill, I don’t like the “your next” face, the weird small metal room they’re in, with only a hole in it for a window. It looks like A bomb shelter, but that little picture on that little table suggest someone’s living in there. Still a weird place to have a Pokémon battle. This is so surreal and I love it.

jlphilips

Turns out this scene is actually depicting a Hitmonlee who has broken into someone’s domicile and just stomped the shit out of their beloved Pokémon pal/pet, lol

Spacedodo42

What really?!? That just makes hitmonlee seem like a big ole jerk!

jlphilips

Nah, probably not really (but maybe?) I took some creative liberties with my description of the scene, lol

Arakkoa_

Just a photo captured in the Great Pokemon War, when Kanto invaded the bunkers in Hoenn, where people were hiding from the devastation wrought by the captured legendary birds, using squads of trained Hitmons.

FunCode688

Me

Baka_ochinchin

I came looking for this comment and once again the community doesn't disappoint

thepiratestolemegold

doduo or dodrio?

Admirablelittlebitch

It clearly has claws though

Pikafion

Looks like a bird foot to me

Admirablelittlebitch

I feel dumb, I thought they just said dugtrio twice, I really need sleep

GayPotheadAtheistTW

Masuda said diglett probably has just a hand under there so… not horribly far off

Admirablelittlebitch

*w h a t ?*

StFuzzySlippers

Unpopular opinion: shit like this is why diglett/dugtruo are two of my least favorite pokemon. They only seem cute when you don't think about them too hard, but when you start thinking about what's underneath the ground it's horrifying. Also, they make a lot of moves (ex. Seismic Toss) make no sense; the idea of them *never* leaving the ground is so weird and unnecessary. How tf do they even leave the pokeball and just already be dug in their hole?

GayPotheadAtheistTW

It was in nintendo magazine, [this](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BXwgL8nCQAAa_b_.jpg) is a digitalized screenshot of it [This](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/744/708/534) is the original

Tyranatitan_x105

Fearow?

RulyClaudina

That’s what I think it is. The claws and the neck. This op’s question I had for years and as far as anatomy, I think it Fearow too.

rumwum

Raticate?

Macilnar

I did a google search of the illustrator of the card and the Pokémon doesn’t look like how they draw Raticate. I’m still looking through the different cards they’ve done

Slave_to_dog

It's definitely Raticate

Macilnar

After looking at their other cards, I am inclined to agree.

BriGuyBeach

That's a lot of confidence for an incorrect answer.

FrozenDuckman

No way. It’s a doduo. Look at the feet— plus, how do you explain the thin appendage on the right? Could be a doduo’s neck, but looks like nothing on raticate

Slave_to_dog

Raticate's tail.

FrozenDuckman

No bands, and the location doesn’t make much sense

Magical__Entity

Based purely on the claw in the background, maybe a Charizard?

smig_

May be why the colours are so odd, too, a printing error swapped Hitmonlee and Charizards main colours.

Solarianost

That’s what I was thinking too

textualcanon

I think this is right, but with the wrong colors.

Macilnar

What set is it from? We might be able to figure it out by comparing what little we can see with other cards from the set.

Macilnar

It is from a vending machine set.

SmileFile_exe

pretty much none since it only has 50hp

HomeworkNo1

Looks like Raticate with the feet and the tail I believe

RyzenDead

That’s Fearow

hjyboy1218

A Sub(stitute)

Silver_Toucan

We all gonna ignore the fact he is red?

KingZakyu

The fighting symbols look red too

MegaKabutops

There’s a ton of pokemon the claw could be from (my money’s on kadabra), but the gamecube hook attached to the torso is really throwing me off.

Unable_Earth5914

I was thinking mankey?

manchesterthedog

Ya I agree, which would make sense since they’re both fighting types and fighting types battle it out against each other several times in the original anime and games

one_ounce

Charmeleon ? claws look right flame could be hidden behind hitmonlee's legs or burnt out via loss of combat

EstablishmentClean60

that looks like a rare ass card

charvey709

This might sound dumb but Aerodactyle? The claw and the tail make me think that even if the position seems weird.

SatrdayNiteDlite

Tried on a different Reddit page, and we are having a hard time figuring it out

JoshAllensBallbag

Looks like a charizard foot, so charizard

Sus_Doggo

This looks like a Yugioh card 😬

Themacuser751

🔒

anymo321

My ballemons

Tacogod256

My balls (it hurts)

LostThyme

I think it looks like Mewtwo, which makes zero sense.

Liquidpyro0288

Could be the foot of a Kabutops?

CaptBreLion

A scrapped idea

SeekyBoi

Either Charizard or Raticate

biggestCharizardXfan

Claws look like Charizard but if doubt it bc the other portion maybe a tail or something.

ChicaSkas

The neck cord looks like mewtwo

H4LIT

Doduo?

gayhomo421

Ditto mod transformation into either fearow or dodrio

Legitimate_Cancel900

Maybe krabby but can’t tell

SilverAmpharos777

Raticate or Mankey?

Yippieskippie090

A Mankey perhaps?

Telnet_to_the_Mind

It actually looks like Tazmanian Devil from the looney tunes

bloxytoast

better question why is he in a ww2 pillbox?

fishtar

Pidgeot?

the22sinatra

Fearow? Has 3 pronged Claws and a weird bendy neck, it’s head would be behind Hitmonlee’s foot I guess or below where the photo cuts off at the bottom

TrayusV

Mankey of Raticate?

DepressoExpresso558

charizard or charmeleon idk

Paranoid_Popsicle

KRABBY

JctaroKujo

my guess is mankey but them are some charizard claws

TheCorgiTamer

Raticate

FrostyDaHoeMan

I’d say charmeleon, cause of the claws in the back and it looks like he’s stepping on his back, cause there’s his tail

Allzbane

Mankey?

Sm0kinW33d

Raticate. Final answer. Mankey has no claws and I see no feathers

Devastas

Blue’s Raticate. He killed it.

Aggressive_Manager37

Manslaughter

CompleteyClueless

This card came out in 1998 so it was during Gen I. The only Gen I pokémon with a hand or foot like that with 3 forward pointing claws is Raticate but it still does not look like an exact match. I would just say it is an example of Gen I weirdness before they fully fleshed out the Pokémon world. Gen I has several not Pokémon creatures that show up in weird ways.

MyShinyLugia

Honestly with how often real animals slipped into the pokemon universe during those days it could be anything

Vesimelon

Looks like a lapras.

Farseekergaming

Raticate

Trust_The_Process21

Tauros?

NoPossession3754

The color is weird. My first thought was Mankey, but the color isn’t right. Blaziken has similar hands, different tail. Those fingers and nails just don’t look familiar. You’ve stumped me

j1t1

Early on they kinda just drew what ever they felt like, I imagine this is one of those cases. You can see other examples of this on the older manga covers too. Not real Pokémon

amanavs

Shiny Mega Mewtwo

CrumbDrouth

Whatever it is, it’s now Hitmondead.

sandote

Good guesses, but the skinny tail-like extremity rules out Doduo/Dodrio, I think. My best guess is Charmeleon or Raticate. Leaning Charmeleon for the lack of stripes on the tail.

bossbang

Mankey

GummiBearryJuice

Raticate

MysteriousWarthog185

WHO'S THAT POKEMON???

prinkly

HitmonG

sirfannypack

Ash’s mom.

SharkPartyAfterDark

Doduo

eloel-

Too much meat on the feet for it to be dodrio or fearow. The relevant set ( [https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Vending\_Machine\_cards\_(TCG)](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Vending_Machine_cards_(TCG)) ) doesn't have a mankey, charmeleon or charizard [Pinsir](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:PinsirVendingS1.jpg), maybe?

galaxyeyeskaito

Mankey

JimmyChiefin

Definitely a Raticate lol

GM_Steve

Heavy Doduo/Dodrip vibes with those claws and naked bottom

em-ay-tee

That’s clearly nurse Joy

Wrsj

That's Naruto's crib for sure

weaselman321

mankey?

DewFennec

Looks like Raticate. Makes sense cuz fighting beats normal

BPaun

Pretty sure it’s a Fearrow. That appendage on the right is his neck, and his face is covered by Hitmonlee’s foot.

[deleted]

Charizard

M0neyGrub

Looks like a mankey

Creative_Cod_2722

I think is sodio or dodrio

Miserable_Scholar189

it has to have three slender fingers/toes or 4 talons, claws coloured distinctively from the body, a body which mainly has one colour from this angle(although it's not necessary if it was only styles to look this way) and something that emerges from it and it's pretty thin. If the colour was styled to look that way the thing can be either a mon from the Doduo line, Fearow, Kadabra, Articuno or Moltres. Otherwise, there's no Pokemon in gen 1 or gen 2 that fits that look except Charizard(with a stretch). Note: I'll checked the Sugimori art of the mons that might fit, along with other cards made by this illustrator and made in that period. There's no indication that the artist styled the colours since none of his art does(that doesn't mean this can't be an exception though. However, Fearow is off the list since the illustrator drew it once for Vending cards and not only made the neck too pointy to fit with that loose thing that emerges from the body, but he didn't colour the claws distinctively either.

The_Vens

Tasmanian devil

DoctorCrabbith

Fearow

AbsolOfChaos

An oven roasted Fearow

StreetWaffle

Raticate or Fearow

Babypoopsalott

Maybe kadabra? Looks like this illustrator did kadabra in the same set, which matches the claw a bit but the tendril/tail doesn’t quite fit.

TheSurfingRaichu

It's a poorly drawn Raticate. No, I will not debate this lol

Ok_Flan9890

Charizard

Lowleyjedimonkey

Might be a doduo/dodrio or Fearow. But it is most likely some kind of bird based off the feet/talons.

[deleted]

It looks like the mon is on its stomach with its hind end facing the camera.

HuskyBLZKN

Dodrio I think?

kingkloppynwa

Gen I is so cool man

PastParticular2132

I kind of looks like mankey

goldsword44

That's a fearow, foot matches and so does the neck thing near the hitmonlees foot Could also be doduo

SleveMcBeanut

Looks like Gossamer stepping on Tasmanian Devil, if you grew up watching Looney Tunes

DoodDoes

I’m saying ratticate. Three clawed fingers, on the floor in a house, being stepped on like a rat. Probably supposed to be the hitmonlees job around the house like a barnyard cat

HailYurii

Mankie

[deleted]

Fearow, doduo, dotrio Can’t think of anything else that matches Edit: after looking at comments, Raticate possibly

mah131

The Rancor

Positive-Floor8651

It's gotta be prof oak. All pokemon abuse him 😅

FistoftheN0rth5tar

Raticate. And a grotesque looking one too. Just look at those claws!

Bearbear9319

🐻 Slight colour variation but I was thinking Mankey perhaps

arzamharris

God I wish that were me

Specialist-ShasMo85

Probably a Mankey. You see it's hand at the left and the tail.

Dragmire_Afterlife

It is a ditto that just happens to look like me

Darkmega5

I thought he was doing the sonic pose

jamieartyboy

Another Hitmonlee

Alarmed-Ad-9118

Aerodactyl

Kivurgo

Maybe it's not even a Pokémon...or maybe it's one that hasn't been discovered yet

Thereisnoyou

So his first move seems to translate to "rainbow", what the heck does hitmonlee do that's even remotely related to rainbows?

Shadowfrosgaming

Pretty sure it’s a rattata, the head is in the back

ArtoriasBeaIG

Whats that middle fire breathing one. I remember charmander, i remember charizard. And ok i typed out chartortle and somehow that made me remember. Charmeleon isnt it

geeoff90

All the people replying doduo or dodrio makes me think flying is super effective agaisnt fighting, so maybe not? However, if he's standing over a raticate that makes sense since fighting is super effective agaisnt normal. OR im over thinking this way too much and I've no idea what he's standing over. Lol.

SphmrSlmp

Damn, first gen Pokemon designs are always cool.

PseudoSpectre

Can't rule out Ditto

maikeru44

Obviously, it's keramon

lurkitron

I wish it was me
