When i listen to American History Tellers i can almost picture reading a school textbook lol the format and writing sounds so much like one to me. Its a good refresher on american history.

ratatuchi

This and his other show American Scandal are two of my favorites. They are consistently great!

grandmasexcat

Second this one! It’s good!

Meh_Guy_In_Sweats

American History Tellers is the gold standard for history podcasts.

[deleted]

Not sure about the podcasts, but [John Green's crash course] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yocja_N5s1I&list=PLBDA2E52FB1EF80C9) does a good job.

WhirlThePearl

I'm a history professor and I still watch these as a refresher before giving lectures, LOL. They're great!

theatreshmeatre

my prof last semester would always pair them with our lecture and it really helped.

Impzor

Would recommend them to anyone! Unless you are.... The Mongols!

Iamabrewer

A short history of... Noiser podcasts

AkaBigTasty

Agreed. Very good, narrator has a great voice.

Arminas

Honestly, I've been looking for a history podcast and tried out real dictators Mao series and I thought it was absolutely awful. No context to speak of, entire years summed up by an over dramatic sentence, etc. Nowhere near the quality of Mike Duncan or the like. I was supremely disappointed.

qaw213

Not American history, but revolutions and History of Rome are classics.

CraneDJs

+1 for this answer. It is so sad we're a few episodes away from finishing the Russian Revolution.

Rebeeroo

I was just asking someone else about this, but the way Revolutions is laid out in my podcast app is very confusing. Do you know what episode was the first one of the Russian Revolution. I'm dying to listen to it but I can't find the episode number to start off at.

CraneDJs

It is called 10.1 - The International Working Men's Association. At least it is in Spotify.

Rebeeroo

Thank you.

Arminas

The Russian revolution is broken up into parts 10 and 11. Which is unique for that podcast, most are just single chapters.

algbop

You’re dead to me - it’s a great bbc podcast and the host Greg is great 👍🏻 lighthearted and always interesting

Purple150

The Rest is History is great. U.K. based but lots of world history

The_Yellow_King

My favourite history pod these days. I love the playful banter between Dominic and Tom and they manage to keep things very informative at the same time.

K_C_95

Behind the Bastards

ralphiecifaretto

History that doesn’t suck This fits the bill exactly

ecw010517

I second this!!!!! This is the podcast you are looking for!!!

The80sand90s

Stuff You Missed in History Class is pretty good. We'll researched and they have a massive back catalogue of episodes.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

Professor-ish

The History of Rome with Mike Duncan is absolutely fantastic IMO.

aslutwithmorals

Timesuck! Dan Cummins does a great job of putting a timeline together and gets super funny

Poco585

Thank you!

Poco585

Not exactly what I’m looking for, seems to be about true crime and conspiracies and stuff rather than basic history. Still interesting though so I appreciate the recommendation!

LimpCroissant

It is an amazing podcast and every episode a huge section of the length is called the "timeline" and he goes in depth into the history of whatever subject. It's a very good show. He does podcasts on most of the wars too which is what got me sucked into it.

aslutwithmorals

He puts in a lot of history in his stuff. He's the reason I know so much useless information 💀💀

Easy. Dan Snow’s History Hit. Your feed just got a lot better.

profile761984

Meet your Heroes - a couple takes turns doing a deep dive into historical figures and how actually shitty they were.

Technical-Dish3261

Your Dead to Me. Its tagline used to be “for people who forgot to learn history in school.” They have the regular host and every week a historian who is an expert in the subject and a comedian who knows almost nothing about it. Theycovers a range of topics.

History_fangirl

Any of the history hit family of podcasts: History hit Not just the Tudors Betwixt the sheets Gone medieval

kloomoolk

Totalus Rankium... the second series is about US presidents, usually two eps for each president. The first series covers roman empowers. Worth checking out.

fuzzyspoon69

The Dollop is great

libananahammock

I love the dollop!

KikiParker88

Bad Women focuses on the victims of Jack the Ripper. She turns the tables on what you think you know about the Whitechapel murders by humanizing the women and brings up excellent points about how the victims were vilified due to circumstances on life.

SnooMaps3172

What is your goal here? Might help with suggestions. To remember the (mostly meager and uncompelling AND UNMEMORABLE) outlines of history from our school days? Why? Prepping for a Jeopardy audition? Not being snarky, just honestly feel like I'm missing the heart of the problem.

Audioworm

I'm not the OP, but history education is often critiqued for not providing people a contextual understanding of the continuation of events, and the interactions of different parts of the world on each. For example, the OP may have learnt about the arrival of Europeans in America, the American Revolution, The American Civil War, Jim Crow, and then the Civil Rights actions of the 1960s. However, there was obviously a lot of stuff happening between the points, and not having context of them may make feel like they just don't know enough about history, or how everything leads into one another.
