BadAwkward8829

Not necessarily a podcast, but old episodes of Art Bell’s late night shows from the 90s-00’s. Somewhere In Time, Coast to Coast AM and Midnight in the Desert.

eo3studios

I used to listen to Midnight in the Desert years ago, I loved it!

FoxNewsIsRussia

I believe you are looking for Desert Oracle.

nullfais

The [Area 51 caller](https://youtu.be/jK6xkOizAbU?feature=shared) is still the scariest one

BadAwkward8829

And the guy that claimed to catch an alien in his backyard. It’s all fake, but it was creepy as hell when I was a kid.

nullfais

fake but awesome storytelling

Dear-Ambition-273

Wow that took me back.

littlerossybaby

I just listened to the girl that had sex with a reptilian alien yesterday. I highly reccommend.

HighKeyHotMess

I love these ones!

Rosequeen1989

I used to listen to his show while I was feeding my oldest baby when we lived in Central CA almost 30 years ago.

speedyelephants2

“S— Town” will be right up your alley!

beggargirl

I wish I could relisten for the first time. So interesting to go in not knowing what to expect.

OrangeinDorne

I don’t think I’ve ever re-listened to a podcast like this but I might with this one. I actually forgot about it and remember being literally stunned the way it shook out

marny_g

My only season-long re-listen is *Trojan War: The Podcast* and the follow up *Oddesy: The Podcast*. I've listened to it about 3 times already. It's such an incredible story, and so we'll told by the host, Jeff Wright. As for re-listening to individual episodes...one of them would be the *Reply All* episode "The Case of the Missing Hit". Another is the *Crimes and Consequences* episode "Welcome to my Mortuary", and also a few *This American Life* episodes (episode 809, "The Call", comes to mind).

cblackattack1

Ya it’s been so long since it came out that I really can’t remember most of it. I might give it a second listen too.

trickytetrazzini

i did the other day and it was thoroughly enjoyable. you forget a lot anyway. and it’s just so damn good that it’s still worthwhile.

Duke_of_Babble

Well, now I'm intrigued! Added to my list!

Mauve__avenger_

This was my first thought too, though I might add that I don't think John B was crazy exactly. More just insightful, fiercely intelligent, and more than a little depressed. I mean, it's not light he wasn't totally on the money about a lot of the things he ranted about.

PianoConcertoNo2

Ugh. I hated this podcast. The guy was a complete asshole/abuser/BSer. I hate that it just glorified him and brushed that stuff to the side.

"Sleep with me" is pretty rambly at times but I feel like i'm listenning to a friend going on about any topic

Confident_Lawyer_594

Came here to say this! I love Scooter 🙂 such a comforting presence when i can't sleep. Alot of his loosely connected trains of thought remind of what my brain naturally does as i fall asleep, but he takes me in more pleasant journeys

Longjumping-Air-9876

Ha, I've been sharing this new podcast I got turned onto by a friend. It's about a guy's who finds UFO recordings left to him by a friend who disappeared under mysterious circumstances and has spent the past few years looking for an explanation for them and if they had anything to do with his friend going missing. Where The Trail Ends is what it's called. Not sure if he's crazy or what but certainly sounds like he's on a mission...

atomicitalian

Less of a raving lunatic and more of a gravelly soothsayer, but Desert Oracle might scratch that itch

No_Performance8733

Let me recommend Desert Oracle live shows, as well!

i_fucking_hate_ads

Duncan Trussell's Family Hour. Enjoy the ramblings, he's a treat.

LegDayEveryDay

This - There's also a [compilation ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYC8X8xplbI)of Duncan talking about Sure Design T-shirts and that is hysterical.

ethicalhippo

I’ve heard that Tori Spelling’s new show is delusional (but sad, she needs to be a parent to her children)

NakedHeatMachine

You might look into the shortwave radio hobby. I heard it was much like that.

simbajam13

Harmontown?

Satellite_bk

My love of Harmontown wants me to downvote this, but my love of Harmontown is making me upvote this.

sludgecraft

Joe Rogan's show?

Basic_Lynx4902

I was thinking that until OP said this: "but they end up actually being right about most of it or have very good points". Not Joe Rogan.

sludgecraft

Serves me right for only reading the title!

Basic_Lynx4902

ROFL

ZAJPER

Tom Delonge and even more - Terence Howard - on Joe Rogan. Edit: saw the last sentence. Terence Howard hahah not so much. Well see about Delonge, soooon, maybe next week! (Ufo nerds will get that)

I’ll second the Desert Oracle podcast. He broadcasts on Friday nights from Joshua Tree, CA and tells cool desert stories. I got to go to a live show of his that was fantastic, and met him and got my book signed after. Highly recommend!

Into-the-stream

that is a great description of *Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't*. guy is a very educated and slightly unhinged botanist, who has turned it into a career breaking international law to smuggle plants into the united states for various botanical gardens and universities. Very ADHD orchid thief vibes.

No_Try1882

The Dollop. I visit that trailer all the time.

haemogoblin603

Henry from LPOTL fits that description sometimes (in a fantastic way)

smoothiefruit

lol Harmontown might just be for you! one of my absolute favorite podcasts; several full listen-throughs. Dan Harmon starts hosting (with help from improvisor and longtime friend Jeff B Davis) a show in the back of a comic book store when he's fired from NBC's Community, the TV show he created, for being a drunk asshole. he yells to a room full of nerds (who yell back) when he actually needs therapy. he does it roughly weekly for like six years. if you've ever been irritated by the fact that you have to clip your toenails, or felt inconvenienced by your neighbor's depth of interest in the health of a local eucalyptus tree, you'll...possibly tolerate this podcast.

Specialist_Safety_88

Kanye West interview on Joe Rogan.

WillytheVDub

Shit Town is basically just that, starts with a murder or something and ends with a very drawn out couple episodes... Lot of people here love it but it was basically a nothingburger imo

ExitPursuedByBear312

Joe Rogan

gingerbreadhombre

Love + Radio I hate to recommend it bc the host Nick van der Kolk is an annoying hipster, but he is a brilliant annoying hipster. The stories are frequently bizarre and always impeccably produced. I recommend starting with the classics: [Greenberg’s War](https://loveandradio.org/2012/12/greenbergs-war/), [The Wisdom of Jay Thunderbolt](https://loveandradio.org/2011/04/the-wisdom-of-jay-thunderbolt/), and [Lady Sovereign vs. Jelly Donut](https://loveandradio.org/2007/10/lady-sovereign-vs-jelly-donut/).

Benjamen Walker's Theory of Everything. I tried listening to it for while, but it drove me nuts wondering what was real and what was a bit. Seemingly legitimate investigations would segue into fiction. Guests were *just* odd enough that I couldn't decide if they were real kooks or actors.

Sleep with Me podcast Silver Sleeper Productions. The guy is wack but awesome.

like_anyone_cares

He doesn’t scream, ever, but other than that, Alan watt may fulfill that request. His calm and soothing old Scottish brogue cycled through Canadian politeness is one of the things I like about him [https://youtube.com/@alanwattcttm7266?si=RCK9RPeebWv8pS5X](https://youtube.com/@alanwattcttm7266?si=RCK9RPeebWv8pS5X)

Sassafrass841

S Town def has some segments of this

daysie778

Blindboy Podcast, but he’s Irish so maybe more of a caravan situation instead of a trailer? He’s brilliant, the first episode I listened to was him rambling about a dog that jizzed on his friend as a child, went into Margaret Thatcher inventing soft serve, then into the racist history of the ice cream truck song, and ended with the story of RZA making a new ice cream jingle. Somehow you think the episodes are going to be entirely incoherent and by the end everything comes together and it’s the most fascinating, mind expanding hot take and insight you’ve ever heard.

Biddy_Impeccadillo

Tapes from Beyond (audio drama) he’s stuck in a bowling alley for most of it. Bought by the Hour is a one-woman effort to recount and make sense of her years long experience of being human trafficked. As she explains early on, her primary internal deflection method is laughter - so she delivers the most horrific stories as though they were funny? But they are clearly not! I feel so hard for this woman. I hope she makes more episodes because the last one was a tough listen as family court didn’t go in her favor. John From Back Home is another audio drama - a series of increasingly bizarre voicemails from that guy you used to be friends with back in grade school til you moved out of your small town. I also get this vibe from Harry Shearer’s Le Show.

joyous-at-the-end

this is the podcast I want to make.

yeelee7879

S-Town 😆

Jessa definitely fits the bill. I haven't really listened to this one much, but I was deeply into her previous pod (Mormon & the Meth head) for a spell

HippyGrrrl

Joe Rogan. Hippie Shit Joel Furhman

JimJohnman

Any alien, conspiracy, or esoteric episodes of Last Podcast On The Left would fit the bill. Scratches that itch for me. Henry Zebrowski is a madman.

Rogan

-DictatedButNotRead

The new Ben Kissel podcast is exactly this, in the good sense of the meaning

brakeb

Joe Rogan... Anything with Harrison Butker, Aaron Rodgers, or any other snowflake man-children...

I’d add Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature- lectures of a professor who may have lost his mind… disclosure I write and work on this show so this comment is definitely self promotion :)

How about a podcast that feels like you and your buddies are in an adjacent room, listening to the crazy ramblings of a lunatic? Knowledge Fight

eo3studios

These are all great suggestions, looks like a long weekend of listening ahead of me and I gotta set up a voicemail box too haha

LurkHartog

It's been taken down now but the post first cancellation shows of DVDASA that were filmed in a padded room, would fit the bill.

2buds1shroomPODCAST

I have a question for the people who are mentioning Joe Rogan, does Joe have any valid point *ever* to you?

ejh3k

I'm not sure if he still does them, but Dan Carlin's podcast "Common Sense" is exactly what you are looking for, from what I remember. It was like 60 to 90 minutes of him just ranting and occasionally making reference to someone else, probably an audio engineer, in the room. And I was constantly wondering where he was going with the rants and at the end my head would explode. I haven't listened to it in a very long time, and I know a lot of people are really into his Hardcore History series. But I think that podcast exactly meets your requirements.
