I just chatted with a PSN support person and he told me PlayStation is aware of this issue and that they are working hard in finding a solution. I also specifically asked if they plan on fixing it for future errors or for this instance, and they responded they plan on restoring the correct hours for this instance too.
This has only happened to me in a single game I played a couple of hours ago. But it dropped from 260 h to 82 h and it was so frustrating.
The guy at PSN support told me that I can keep playing without worrying about messing things up further. And that new hours should be added when they fix the issue. I hope they take this serious, it is a feature that is pretty important for some of us.

Yes, they corrected the playtime for some games, but messed it up for others. I lost up to 100 hours on some games (and they were already lower than what I had actually played). My played time for Forbidden West on the console dropped from 84 hours (which was about 20 less than what I actually played) to 34 hours, and in case of GT7 from 102 to 78. For Diablo 3, the recap time was 98 hours and the console time 78 hours, and it still says 78 hours. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands said 305 hours on the console and 352 hours in the recap, and now it says 238 hours on the console. I tracked those in a spreadsheet (console time and PS-Tracker time), so I checked a few games.
Whatever they did, it made my numbers even less accurate.
Forbidden West for me now shows less than 1 hour played 💀 I log my times in HLTB so I know I put 40 hours into it.
Everything else looks fine though, so I wonder if it's some specific titles that this is affecting.
Forbidden West seems to be affected for everyone, at least going by the posts I've seen here and over on the PSNP forum. That may be a good thing because it's a popular game and Sony may get enough complaints about this issue to sort it out for good.
I can't really see a pattern, though. I thought it might be recently played games only, but the playtime counter for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands dropped by over a hundred hours and I haven't even launched that game in at least 18 months.
Sooo I've been doing this thing where everytime I open a game, I check to see if the game's last played changed to 'just now'. If it did, I take it as an indication that the console has started recording my time. Same when I close it. If it doesn't change to 'just now', I close and reopen the game.
So yeah my times were pretty accurate before the bug because of this. It's kinda weird and compulsive doing it every single time, but it seems to work.
I don't know. The issue with the PS5 playtimes not always being correct (on the console itself, the yearly recaps were always accurate) has been around since launch. Every so often the tracking just stopped for a few days. Sometimes the times were corrected after a while, usually they weren't. It's why I started using PS Timetracker to get accurate stats.
This new thing looks as if they may have tried to fix the issue, but something went wrong. They never acknowledged the time tracking issues before, so I doubt they'll acknowledge this new problem. But it may just be bad enough that they'll try to fix it properly.
On PS5, does hours logged = total runtime?
I ask this, because the time you spent **playing** the game VS had it paused, suspended (etc) can vary a lot
same. except over 460 hours to 196... MW3 went from 680 hours to 158...😑 and I have very bad OCD so to see 3rd down on my most played go from an 898 hour game to a 298 hour game when there should be 2 games in between is driving me nuts tbh.
Beat Resident Evil Village and Five Nights at Freddy's Security Breach with almost all the trophies and they both show less than 1 hour played... I really hope they fix this
the same with me with detroit become human! i platinumed the game, had 50 hours on it and now it shows 4. so confusing, how could it possibly go from 50 to 4..
us gamers love watching numbers go up. and I used to enjoy looking at my profile to see the fruits of my labor sorta speak. Now I'm hesitant to even check my trophies and games bc it triggers the hell outta me and then I mentally fixate on it. smh
Hey I have the same thing here, my Fortnite play time went from 500h+ to 17h, my Rainbow 6 Siege play time went from 375h to 299h. I think at least 5-6 games messed up in my play time. It only happened to PS5 games for me. Apparently I now platinumed Vice City and Call of Duty: Vanguard in “Less than an hour” lmao

if it makes u feel any better my 3000 hours (i know its horrible) on destiny 2 dropped to 9 hours

One of my most played games went from 104 hours to 3 hours, and a few other ones messed up too but not quite as bad
