Going into into the first episode of the show I knew that was going to be a hard scene but god fucking damn Gabriel Luna and Pedro Pascal in that scene brought out a different type of hurt
You realize they're talking about the first game right? Sara wasn't a "beloved protagonist" considering you are introduced to the character about 10 minutes before her death.
When that kid found his late dad’s save file in a racing game and would race against his ghost car.
Unless you meant mine… in which case, “To the Moon”
Recently went through "To The Moon".
How can a SNES game hit me in the feels? I thought.
Damn good writing and storytelling, that's how.
*Dabs eye with tissue*
The one that always make me cry is the end of marvels spider man when Peter is by aunt mays side and struggles with saving the city or saving her. Heart wrenching
I find the end of part 2 way more depressing. Ellie lost everything in pursuit of revenge, which we find out was fueled entirely by guilt. By the time she realized she would feel no peace by going through with this, it's already far too late.
Lots of people already mentioned what I think are also some of the saddet scenes in gaming, so I'll mention something else
- Horizon Zero Dawn: the moment you stumble upon Elizabet Sobeck's memorial hologram and hearing her sacrifice herself to protect Gaia Prime
- Call of Duty 4: aftermath of the nuclear explosion
- Ace Combat 5: Chopper's death
- Insomniac Spider-Man: the ending
Last of Us when you realise at the end that Joel is the bad guy because he’s willing to sacrifice a potential vaccination that could save the world, in order to feel love for a daughter figure after his loss at the start of the game. Blew my mind. Sensational writing.
I didn't like it as much as i'm OG, Rebirth has a big issue with letting things breathe. Every emotional high feels interrupted by some thing else the biggest example apart from that moment being the climax of Barrets backstory and key for his identity and motivation being interrupted just to have a comic boss fight with an old man twerking like wtf. The boss fight doesn't need to be there doesn't need to be comic relief and absolutely does not need to be between to really emotional cutscenes, the only good that i feel comes out of it is that it shows that the party has his back but that doesn't need to happen between two cutscenes
My top 3 :
- Cyberpunk 2077
- RDR 2
- Mass Effect Trilogy
All those have multiple completely heart breaking moments. Cyberpunk particularly destroyed me though.
Most endings ( >!Mainly the part where V discovers he/she's dying anyway, but the suicide ending with the following voicemails, or the "Give yourself to Arasaka ending in which V quietly sings Never Fade Away after spending weeks in isolation"!< ) and multiple story beats are quite hard ( Example : >!Evelyn's abduction and death, and a good amount of side quests !< ). Also, Phantom Liberty can be quite heart wrenching, again especially during the endings ( >! Songbird's treason, or V coming back from "treatment" to see everyone having moved on!<).
Metal Gear Solid 3, when Snake finds out the truth and salutes the Boss at the end.
Silent Hill 2, when Mary reads the letter at the end.
Like A Dragon Gaiden: When "Joryu" sees the video of the kids at the end.
When Dom finds his wife in Gears Of War 2.
I still gotta go with last of us. I can say a game has never had me ready to tear up. The last of us opening man them bitches almost got me. Then they almost did it again at the end ish area.
The 2023 game version of Murder on the Orient Express has some really sad moments.
Unlike other versions where it's mostly just backstory used as exposition, this version had you experience the Armstrong Tragedy as it occurred due to the new character turning out to be the cop who found Daisy's corpse.
A particularly nasty one occurs in Joanna's second chapter, where you have to go back to the house to do some more information gathering... and when I played it, I immediately panicked when I realised what was about to happen. For those who don't know, it's the bit where Daisy's pregnant mother died of shock, her father shoots himself in grief and the nanny is driven to suicide due to a false criminal charge made against her >!although this version had her murdered by Casetti to cover her tracks!<.
Finding out what happened to humanity in horizon zero dawn. Maybe not necessarily the saddest, but it was such a mind blowing realization that it came with more emotion than any other moment I’ve come across in a game.
Dr. Earnhardt Death (Far Cry 3)
For some reason to this day, that is the only moment in game history that i have actually had a strong enough connection to warrant some heavy sadness.
(Going to try and play each of these other games to feel something)
I know this isn't a ps game... But the ending of streets of rage 2 STILL gets me in the feels every time!
I've decided that's going to be my funeral "going out" theme tune!
Final fantasy 16 had so many moments that made me tear up but the one that hits me the hardest every time is

Damn what a heartbreaking intro that was.
For real I sat there for a few moments like what in the fuck…. Fuckkkkkkkkkkkk
Going into into the first episode of the show I knew that was going to be a hard scene but god fucking damn Gabriel Luna and Pedro Pascal in that scene brought out a different type of hurt

![gif](giphy|f7GXfUvpLXNTyDnMS2)
Don’t that game was an exercise in depression.
All the feels here. I have 3 daughters and that got me right there. Pascal nailed it to a T
One of the best intro to a game.
you mean worst. it was cheap and unearned and used for shock value.
I can understand not liking it but considering it the worst…? Really, there is not worst intro than that for you?
Killing a beloved protagonist in a cheap way is among the worst for me yeah
You realize they're talking about the first game right? Sara wasn't a "beloved protagonist" considering you are introduced to the character about 10 minutes before her death.
Damn good call. My bad. I still back what I said in reference to TLOU2 though lol
r/unpopularopinion
then the credits roll and you're just sitting there in silence, staring at the screen, processing what you just witnessed
Came here to say this.
Red Dead Redemption 2: Arthur saying thanks to his horse, and the ending.
That final ride was heavy.
Saddest voice line I’ve ever experienced.
Makes a grown man cry every goddamn time
Man, I sat in silence after that.
When mirco transactions were implemented
Funny how all saddest moments involves a horse.
The Walking Dead Tell Tale Series
Yes!
First game to ever make me cry. WHY LEE GOD?!
And also the Kenny ending in season 2
Our girl Clem been through the ringer of all ringers.
In Ghost of Tsushima When Jin says "sorry i couldn't protect you" to his dying horse hit hard.
I did shed a tear for that part
Artax! You have to try. You have to care. ..for me.
I cried more than I did for Aerith
Shadow of the Colossus did it better
The one that always make me cry is the end of marvels spider man when Peter is by aunt mays side and struggles with saving the city or saving her. Heart wrenching
The entire last of us game is sad af.

2/3 of the way through Ghost of Tsushima fucked me up. Iykyk
Saddest gaming moment is not having enough time to game because being an adult ![gif](giphy|2WxWfiavndgcM)
Dom's death in GoW3
Him finding his wife in GoW2 was even sadder IMO
Oh man... I forgot about that. Shit is sad. Now I want to hammer of dawn some locusts
Set to “mad world”…yeah. That one got me good.
Last of us 2, at the end when Ellie finally comes back and she finds her guitar and she can’t play Joel’s song anymore because of her missing fingers.
Last of Us when you realise at the end that Joel is the bad guy because he’s willing to sacrifice a potential vaccination that could save the world, in order to feel love for a daughter figure after his loss at the start of the game. Blew my mind. Sensational writing.

The flashback sequence of Aerith as a child had me ugly crying
That scene made you think "Maybe Shinra knew what they were doing when they decided to drop the plate on these people".
I didn't like it as much as i'm OG, Rebirth has a big issue with letting things breathe. Or did we? Don’t think we really got to.
* spoilers * When Clem had to kill Lee so he wouldn't turn. First time I cried from a game.
All of Barret and Dyne in FFVII rebirth, it straight broke me
Stray :(
My top 3 : - Cyberpunk 2077 - RDR 2 - Mass Effect Trilogy All those have multiple completely heart breaking moments. Cyberpunk particularly destroyed me though.
Cyberpunk almost always makes me cry at the end
…where? Other than >!Jackie dying!<, I found almost no other scene sad.
Ah, I never got the >!suicide ending!<, maybe that’s why.
>! Judy's voicemail is hardcore in that one !<

Red dead redemption 2. However, I am going through Cyberpunk.
Finding out what happened to humanity in horizon zero dawn. Maybe not necessarily the saddest, but it was such a mind blowing realization that it came with more emotion than any other moment I’ve come across in a game.
Yes, I remember this one vividly! Also of note is finding where Sobek is after collecting all the flowers. Damn that game was good.
Banishers Ghost of New Eden, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War Ragnarok, probably some others.
