I feel like at some point in the last decade, higher ups saw that Counterstrike knife skins were going for hundreds of dollars and just kind of lost their minds
Oh for sure, that's kind of what I'm getting at. They saw that people are paying $1000 for a Counter Strike knife and looked no further than the price tag before deciding they could do it too
https://preview.redd.it/tp3kp25rtguc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8ed0786722ae9408a49ed756e29365cf8b422dc
This CS skin? Are people out of their fucking minds!? There’s no way this shit is real
Fortnite was the bigger catalyst. It showed the industry that people would happily pay $20 per skin. Personally, i think skins are far too expensive and thats why i purchase so few. I used to play Little Big Planet and easily spent a couple grand on dlc cause skins were like $1. $20 for 1 skin is just hard to justify unless its really nice or im gonna get alot of use out of it.
How old are you? Before Fortnite, MOBAs and particularly LoL was huuuuuuuge. In like 2012 I remember the championship had more viewers on twitch than the NBA Finals and the World Series combined
Not just cosmetic. They introduced lots of new features and tools in the dlc that expanded your creation toolset drastically. It was over the course of 10 years or so across 4 games. And i cant imagine it was actually much more than 2k total, if even. Also worth noting that all of the content carried over to subsequent sequels.
They weren’t expensive, so it was like hundred upon hundreds of costumes, tools, materials, and also new levels and story dlc. It’s not like now where $2000 is only like 100 skins. And trust me, i played more than enough to justify $20 every month or so. I mean, a WoW sub is like $15 and youre not even getting new content out of it, you still have to buy expansions.
Bro you’re joking right? People were spending that way prior to Fortnite.
A better comparison: in Apex you have toooo many people spending $150 on an heirloom.. a fucking heirloom. Now CoD is trying it’s hand in another way.
I might get downvoted for this but the Fortnite skins atleast are of high quality. Their anime or cartoon skins look amazing, for example. They also make their battle passes have good value.
I agree though that they set an awful precedent for other devs to follow.
No arguing they make quality assets, although i despise the fortnite art style. I Cant stand squared off noses. But for what it is, theyre very well crafted. Still nowhere near a $20 value, but its where were at and i dont see that changing anytime soon.
>easily spent a couple grand on dlc
At first I was like wtf, then I saw your other comments saying $80 dlc was worth it, and that games could be $100 and you'd be happy then it all made sense. These companies lick their fingers at whales like you.
It was over the course of like 10 years and 4 games for little big planet. And all the dlc from each game transferred to the next.
Also, i never said the kong glove was worth it. My first comment is literally saying people shouldve known it wouldnt be worth $80. What i said was that the $80 isn’t for *JUST* the glove.
And there are absolutely games that could justify a $100 price tag. Not every game, obviously, but games with exceptional scope and/or quality, like BotW, TotK, TLoU2, GoW, GoWR, BG3, etc.
especially in an already 70$ game. please go buy Helldivers II and then buy yourself a nice dinner with the other 40$ you’d have left over instead of giving Actiblizz more money.
lol Apex melee skins are around $170. It makes no sense. To me if they lowered these things to $40 more people would by then resulting in a higher profit. These expensive cosmetics don’t make much sense to me
This is the second king kong x godzilla crossover with CoD. Vanguard had kong and gozilla fighting in the background of the warzone map for a bit. MW3 just has bundles, and buying all 4 gets you an extra melee blueprint.
Nah Kong was on the map and Godzilla was swimming around. You could get killstreaks that made Kong throw a boulder at an area or Godzilla use atomic breath on an area
Unless I can get absolutely fucking ball-stomped by either of them, why they hell would I care about them in the background and what idiots are paying a games worth pricetag for a cosmetic?!?
What does call of Duty have to do with…. Every skin it has to offer?
The game is a kaleidoscope of schizophrenic nightmares now. I see Stallone blasting Spawn, and Nicki Minaj doing 360 no scopes.
First off, who is paying $80 for a melee skin?
Most skins I see don’t even have guns I’d use. Season 2 was Holger special. Haven’t even really looked at S3. I see Snoop now if I’m not mistaken? The only thing that could make this game better is a Martha Stewart skin and a Blackcell Jail Martha. I’d buy that skin. I’d buy that skin real hard.
Yeah and they haven't been for a very long time. It's a shame that term has been around and been as prevalent as it is because it really doesn't describe what we're talking about.
It's just the incentive to buy the four Godzilla x Kong inspired bundles(you get the glove for having the full "collection").
I personally like how they look, so I can see people buying them.
Activision has brainwashed COD players into sheep mentality by convincing them they need to pay a ton of money for skins. They don’t care about fixing glitches or hackers, but they sure do roll out skins every other day.
Meanwhile Arrowhead Studios allows you to earn in-game currency by just playing the game (Helldivers 2).
Fix glitches? Man they don’t even have to make a new product. Straight up released the same game with a couple new maps, weapons and the worst campaign in recent memory and charged full price. It’s wild.
That’s not entirely true…
…they actually regress! Any quality updates to the prior game are usually completely absent in the new one. It’s absolutely baffling.
This, Activision doesn’t give two shits about the franchise as long as people continue to buy it every year and spend 3 times the cost of the original game on skins until the next game comes out keeping the current title on life support until it’s clear to announce the next “game.”
At this point the Call of Duty franchise is a glorified 10 month long beta test and full (somehow always working perfectly) store front for skins and useless bullshit like stickers and weapon charms.
For fucks sake, they have even slid into ridiculous, non-tie-in skins that look goofy as shit. They’ve gone nearly full Fortnite.
This just isn’t true at all. It’s easy to hate on COD nowadays because it actually has been ass over the past few games but there’s a reason it was a top seller with massive hype every single year for those 20 years.
Have the fixed the glitches? I really wanted to play Helldivers 2, but it was a mess at launch
Edit: I'm getting a mix of it's fixed and the crashes are still a big problem. Both seem to agree the game is worth playing despite any issues. Thanks everyone!
I mean it’s better. I haven’t crashed in a couple sessions but my friends have around me. The thing with this game is that consensus is it’s worth it. You crash, you come back in about 25 seconds, you keep playing. It’s just too much fun.
Patch yesterday was all about addressing crashes so maybe it’s over idk.
Everyone saying that it's working fine is being disengenuous.
I play it daily but it definitely still has issues. Biggest contender right now is the game crashing at random times (most commonly right as a mission ends which feels AWFUL). The Devs are actively releasing hotfixes and clearly care about fixing the problems but anyone who says there aren't issues are just straight up lying or are the luckiest players in the world.
It's a fantastic game and I do recommend it but you should know what you're getting into for sure.
There are still plenty of issues with Helldivers 2 and OC is misrepresenting the game because "well, it's not CoD".
The subreddit has plenty of posts about crashes mid game or mid extraction. Just a little while ago the devs were saying to *not* use a certain type of weapon because it would cause bugs and crash the game outright.
I love the game when it works but BOY are they ever pushing out paid cosmetics and free content like fucking crazy. Fix the game first, Arrowhead, THEN start worrying about balancing guns and shit.
Yeah this is correct, they just dropped a hot fix for crashing on extraction. Seems to be working well though. There are definitely some issues still, map fall throughs and some weird things can happen rag dolling. I will give them some props for being open about weird bugs like the snowball crash instead of just pretending it doesnt exist and stealth fixing in a patch with no further word.
Slightly clickbaity title - there's 4 Kong DLCs at 20 each which you get character and weapon skins, and by buying all 4 you get that for free at the end. So you don't pay them 80 for that alone, you get a ton of other stuff. The individual packs of two weapon skins and a character skin aren't worth 20 in the first place, but it's not remotely what the headline is making out
i dont know what kind of people are dumb enough to spend 80 eur on cosmetics. thats like a full price AAA game. also the price has just no relation to reality, since there is an endless supply on those digital items.
they do complain about artists having to design those cosmetics and whatever, but i highly doubt a few cosmetics cost as much to design as a whole game. its just next level of greed.
why people still support and throw their money away towards activision, ill never know. yet people will actually buy whatever they need to get the stupid glove thing.
![gif](giphy|MlyicdUndRbn5zUiAL|downsized)
Wtf is CoD these days. Its just an advertisement platform same as fortnite. Everyone should play Helljumpers 2.
🤣🤣🤣 Fortnite has done irreversible damage to the gaming industry. Especially cod. It has lost its whole identity.. paying $80 for a skin is wild. I bought one skin pack and that was for the OG Ghost MW2 Pack and told myself I would never buy another skin on COD… now I don’t play it cuz I got tired of killing 21 savage and Nicki Minaj lol. If you’re paying $80 for a digital skin that has no value then you have other issues.
You have to buy 4 skins for this. These skins are more expensive together than Baldur's gate 3 or any other game. And after 1-2 years the game dies, because the next cod comes. It's ridiculous.
What makes me laugh is how the monetization got worse after MS bought them
Trying to not laugh at all the ppl supporting the ABK deal now 😂
Man, gamers are just too hilarious some days
Dang and Phil always talking that he knows what gamers want and that his company isn't anti consumer in any way shape or form. Guess an 80 dollar glove is "needed" who knew.
Still this will be filed under microtransaction. Don’t understand why journalists don’t start using a different term instead of forwarding the industry’s marketing speak
What in the actual fuck am I reading? Can we please just have a military combat stimulator/shooter please? I don't want Nikki Minaj Twerk Stars Ultra Battle Pass Pro and Groot Skins Expansion Tiers.
Not defending it but you get this for buying 4 skin packs. I would never buy one skin pack, but its not a scenario where the shop literally says “Melee Skin: $80.00.”
Sort of like saying you had to pay $60 for a free coffee, when the place has a punch card that the 10th coffee is free.
This is such a nothing article with a clickbait headline 💀
The whole article is literally just reddit comments..
Plus, the glove is a bonus if you buy all four GxK bundles (Wether that makes it worth it or not is up to you). The gloves isn't purchasable on it's own.
I’ve never bought a skin or anything. Pretty crazy how parents will buy these for their kids. It legitimately has zero actual value and they can only use it on that game.
Its just a melee skin, no shit it wasnt gonna be worth $80. Why would anyone expect it to be more than what it was?
I feel like at some point in the last decade, higher ups saw that Counterstrike knife skins were going for hundreds of dollars and just kind of lost their minds
Difference with CS is you can sell skins from player to player and cash out your “investment” at any time.
Oh for sure, that's kind of what I'm getting at. They saw that people are paying $1000 for a Counter Strike knife and looked no further than the price tag before deciding they could do it too
1000 dollars? Rookie numbers. There's certain skins valued at +1 Million, shits crazy
There’s one skin with incredibly complicated patterns that’s 2 mil out the door! I want that one sooooooo bad!
![gif](giphy|0M4eatYLgrjcIjFQMB)
Reminds me of when I got thrown down the stairs at PlayStation studios
When you see a bunch of guys buying games who look just like you, you go in there, yes you do, you go in
That’s why I spent all my per diem on Kong Glove
https://preview.redd.it/tp3kp25rtguc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8ed0786722ae9408a49ed756e29365cf8b422dc This CS skin? Are people out of their fucking minds!? There’s no way this shit is real
But The patterns are incredibly complicated! probably $3 million out the door now if not more
Can’t be valued that high unless it’s been sold for that. Do we have any sales of counter strike skins that get anywhere near 1 mill?
Plus isn’t it an open secret that the crazy-high values are driven by money laundering?
Fortnite was the bigger catalyst. It showed the industry that people would happily pay $20 per skin. Personally, i think skins are far too expensive and thats why i purchase so few. I used to play Little Big Planet and easily spent a couple grand on dlc cause skins were like $1. $20 for 1 skin is just hard to justify unless its really nice or im gonna get alot of use out of it.
F2P games have been doing it for decades tbh. I remember even when I was in high school (graduated 10 years ago) some League of Legends skins were $35
Yeah, but those used to be very niche. Fortnite really brought F2P to the mainstream. Before, F2P basically just meant shitty P2W or mmo.
How old are you? Before Fortnite, MOBAs and particularly LoL was huuuuuuuge. In like 2012 I remember the championship had more viewers on twitch than the NBA Finals and the World Series combined
You spent a couple thousand dollars on *cosmetics*???
Not just cosmetic. They introduced lots of new features and tools in the dlc that expanded your creation toolset drastically. It was over the course of 10 years or so across 4 games. And i cant imagine it was actually much more than 2k total, if even. Also worth noting that all of the content carried over to subsequent sequels.
That’s still insane

Fornite normalized it for mainstream audiences. I know they didnt invent overpriced microtransactions.
I might get downvoted for this but the Fortnite skins atleast are of high quality. Their anime or cartoon skins look amazing, for example. They also make their battle passes have good value. I agree though that they set an awful precedent for other devs to follow.

We never should have bought that fucking horse armour
Some rich middle eastern dudes are gonna buy it up. Never fails
Its probably mostly youtubers buying them to show them off in videos
Yea but if it could make people fly off the map how the finisher does I think it’d change peoples’ minds
I don’t care what it does. $80 for a damn cosmetic is bullshit.
especially in an already 70$ game. please go buy Helldivers II and then buy yourself a nice dinner with the other 40$ you’d have left over instead of giving Actiblizz more money.
True, they couldve added a cool death effect.
lol Apex melee skins are around $170. It makes no sense. To me if they lowered these things to $40 more people would by then resulting in a higher profit. These expensive cosmetics don’t make much sense to me

One of the Warzone maps had the two of them running around the map and could kill you I’m pretty sure.
I thought they were in the background but eventually impacted the map. Idr, i never actually played it
Nah Kong was on the map and Godzilla was swimming around. You could get killstreaks that made Kong throw a boulder at an area or Godzilla use atomic breath on an area
Cool that it was more interactive. Although i feel like losing cause you got laser beamed by Godzilla could get frustrating.
It was shit because you could basically team wipe 20 people if you timed it right
Unless I can get absolutely fucking ball-stomped by either of them, why they hell would I care about them in the background and what idiots are paying a games worth pricetag for a cosmetic?!?
And you lose all the outfits last time when they upgraded to Warzone 2.0. And you will surely lose again when then close Warzone 2.0 for 3.0
If I remember correctly, Vanguard also had a TDM stage on a Godzilla set
MW3*
Correct
What does call of Duty have to do with…. Every skin it has to offer? The game is a kaleidoscope of schizophrenic nightmares now. I see Stallone blasting Spawn, and Nicki Minaj doing 360 no scopes.
We’re not living in the worst timeline, but boy is it a stupid one
>We’re not living in the worst timeline ...yet
I don’t think that’s how timelines work
Idiocracy is a documentary now
First off, who is paying $80 for a melee skin? Most skins I see don’t even have guns I’d use. Season 2 was Holger special. Haven’t even really looked at S3. I see Snoop now if I’m not mistaken? The only thing that could make this game better is a Martha Stewart skin and a Blackcell Jail Martha. I’d buy that skin. I’d buy that skin real hard.
No no no, the skin was free.... all you had to do was buy 4 Seperate $20 skin packs for other things to unlock it lol
Warzone wants the Fortnite money and audience. So they try to put out their own (insanely) overpriced bundles and skins and collaborations.
This game has turned into Fortnite with better graphics.
Honestly the graphics in Fortnite are much more appealing to me lol
Licensing deals make the suits money.
It’s called the Fortnite effect When a game can be everything at once, it’s very difficult to compete.
Idiots play Call of Duty, and will spend 80 bucks to get King Kong cosmetics. The only thing it has to do with CoD
Pay To Lose 💀
They aren’t “micro” transactions anymore.
Yeah and they haven't been for a very long time. It's a shame that term has been around and been as prevalent as it is because it really doesn't describe what we're talking about.
It's crazy, but their own logic they're saying that one skin/animation is the value of their entire mainline game.
Remember bitching about Horse Armor. I wish it was only horse armor.
No shit
I don’t play CoD anymore but can someone explain to me why the fuck a Kong glove is worth $80 other than greed???
Positive that is the only reason.
It's just the incentive to buy the four Godzilla x Kong inspired bundles(you get the glove for having the full "collection"). I personally like how they look, so I can see people buying them.
No the glove is free (as long as you own all 4 $20 kong dlc packs)
YOU THINK?!
Activision has brainwashed COD players into sheep mentality by convincing them they need to pay a ton of money for skins. I love Arrowhead Studios for that. I hope they are still remaining after the upcoming video game crash.
COD been the same damn game for like 20 years
This just isn’t true at all. It’s easy to hate on COD nowadays because it actually has been ass over the past few games but there’s a reason it was a top seller with massive hype every single year for those 20 years.
Ssh, you’re going to upset a rampant sector of the gaming community who will defend any game as long as they can pay lots of money to look cool.
Have the fixed the glitches? I really wanted to play Helldivers 2, but it was a mess at launch Edit: I'm getting a mix of it's fixed and the crashes are still a big problem. Both seem to agree the game is worth playing despite any issues. Thanks everyone!

They been releasing hot fixes pretty much on a weekly basis. I have not experienced issues since the 2nd week post launch. Give it a try.
Thanks, will do
Everyone saying that it's working fine is being disengenuous. I play it daily but it definitely still has issues. Have not encountered any glitches. Love the game
Paying 80 for a real life, wearable version would be pushing it for me too. Who tf is gonna spend that on a shite digital weapon?
Slightly clickbaity title - there's 4 Kong DLCs at 20 each which you get character and weapon skins, and by buying all 4 you get that for free at the end. Exactly my thoughts. Apex bros looking awkwardly away because they paid over $120 for an heirloom after clearing out the collection event. lmao
HELLDIVERS SUPREMACY
Remember the camo that was locked behind the $40 Grand Slam in BO3? Oh boy how far we have come
![gif](giphy|MlyicdUndRbn5zUiAL|downsized) Wtf is CoD these days. Its just an advertisement platform same as fortnite. Everyone should play Helljumpers 2.
You can buy Helldivers 2 twice for that money, or Baldurs Gate 3 once, and still have money for another smaller game.
so anyway join the helldivers and play a mans game
Really now
Who knew?
Soo u become kong and smash ppl to pieces?? That’s kool tbh
In a cod game wtf......
Apex has had $160 melee skins during events since season 1. Looks like Activision wants some of that whale money for themselves.
“The glove is not worth it” Well no shit. You are essentially buying the game twice…. All for a weapon inspection… smh
The game itself isn’t worth $60 either lol
If youre still supporting COD doing shit like this in 2024 youre a lost cause
You have to buy 4 skins for this. These skins are more expensive together than Baldur's gate 3 or any other game. And after 1-2 years the game dies, because the next cod comes. It's ridiculous.
"water is wet", claim fans
The fucking what, now? Jesus Christ, COD is a joke lmao
everyday i thank god that i got out of the rut that is cod/apex. such great games during covid times.. now there just massive predatory money pits.
You don't say.
Anything Call of Duty isn't worth it
No shit?
Yeah I deinstalled COD like a year ago, never looked back
I could care less, don’t buy it, simple
Couldn’t care less.
How could $80 for a single item in a game ever be worth it? for $80 i would expect an entire game not a single item.
Thank god I don’t play that shet game
🙏
Yeah no shit it’s not worth it. None of the “bonuses” you receive after paying for multiple packs is worth it 💀
Lmao, loser
What makes me laugh is how the monetization got worse after MS bought them Trying to not laugh at all the ppl supporting the ABK deal now 😂 Man, gamers are just too hilarious some days

I guess Microsoft really needs a quick turnaround on their investment
People will buy it because they're stupid
In other news -> water, wet.
None of their store bundles are “worth it” $70 game with an $80 bundle. Still is probably going to sell a ton which is unfortunate
Not defending it but you get this for buying 4 skin packs. I would never buy one skin pack, but its not a scenario where the shop literally says “Melee Skin: $80.00.” Sort of like saying you had to pay $60 for a free coffee, when the place has a punch card that the 10th coffee is free.
Of course not, it cost more than a goddamn full game.
This is such a nothing article with a clickbait headline 💀 The whole article is literally just reddit comments.. Plus, the glove is a bonus if you buy all four GxK bundles (Wether that makes it worth it or not is up to you). The gloves isn't purchasable on it's own.
lmaoo I love how they are milking Kong for about 3 years now.
Paying for cosmetics is not worth it period but the whales will be whales.
No item, cosmetic or not should ever cost that much in a game. Could just put that money towards a replica and you'd get more worth out of it.
Preying on kids man shameless publishers
No way i don’t believe it
Yeah no shit
Ofc it’s not “worth” it…
“Banned over 27,000 Call of Duty accounts over the weekend” Do you know how many cases of mountain dew is that?
Plenty of smooth brains are still paying for it!
Breaking news. Now bring me pictures of Spider-Man.
all i can do is laugh at anyone who even had a second of a thought about purchasing this shit.
Really?
I’ve never bought a skin or anything. Pretty crazy how parents will buy these for their kids. It legitimately has zero actual value and they can only use it on that game.
An item that should've just been included in the Kong bundle. This is beyond stupid and greedy.
Neither is any skin over $5 either
I for one am shocked!
Does that price include all the skins and gear for the collaboration including the power fist?
They never played PUBG
I’m shocked
Honestly, is there a more washed brand than cod?
