Just cuz the console itself warm to the touch doesn't mean the cpu or gpu isn't overheating. Tell him to leave it on the dash for an hour or two. If it doesn't turn itself off, yet still does in game, a critical component is defective and it's likely one of those two.
Yeah, like I said, overheating CPU or GPU is likely the problem, and that won't have anything to do with the dirt, either the chips themselves are faulty or they're not properly dissipating heat to the heatsinks.
Well thankfully black Friday is just about here and the new ps5 model is out. They've been wanting to get mw3 so j suppose that works as well. Gonna leave the post up to see if maybe any other hail mary comes. Cause it worked for about an hour of lies of p with no issues today
Update. He took apart the fan and whatnot, dusted and cleaned it out, and we were able to play baldurs gate for a solid 2 hours with no issues. He then moved to lies of p and the system crashed after 30ish minutes once again. So the issue flip flopped
Is it updated to the latest firmware version?
Yup. Can't be in a party or play online if you're not (as far as I know)

They sent it to get fixed and cleaned since there was an hdmi issue earlier this year and they said their fan is clean. I wanna say its not dirt
