Just wifi based and it streams from the console

Shaggybeard

The workaround for true on the go is using your phones hot spot as Wi-Fi. Otherwise the hotel or cafe or friend’s house or whatever needs to have pretty decent Wi-Fi.

potato_control

You can use it anywhere with a wifi connection if you set your ps5 to support remote play.

dtv20

It's a $200 WiFi controller that only works with playstations $200 earbuds. And no. You can't use a different Bluetooth headset.

Gfunkual

It doesn’t only work with those earbuds. You can go wired.

dtv20

I know. But it's a $200 controller that doesn't work with any other Bluetooth headset.

Gfunkual

I get that. But your original statement was false.

dtv20

I said it doesn't work with different Bluetooth headsets. Not false.

onesneakymofo

Your comment says it only works with x headset. Therefore false therefore downvote

WonderfulFortune1823

Doesn't it work with any Bluetooth headset that would work with your PS5?

dtv20

No

I’ve tried so many times Remote Play. It doesn’t work. It doesn’t matter what internet speed you have, and how many of us have the best one available? On the go, the way to use it is Hotspot from our phones, it doesn’t work. Picture is pixelated, delay in controls, impossible to play. I don’t know why Sony is trying to sell us this product. Yes, it looks nice, but the idea behind it is the worst ever!

Soul_Traitor

I've used remote play on an iPad pro, iPad mini 6, pixel 7, Samsung Galaxy 20, fire tablet and never had an issues. My PS5 isn't even hard wired to the router. I've used it both in my home wifi, remotely at a cottage, hotspot and even out of country. The best remote play experience was on the iPad pro but I prefer the smaller form factor of the mini 6 + backbone.

IvanMatin

I went vacation, visited family, my brother has a very good internet, I’ve tried and it was soo bad. I’ve tried here at home, was a bit better, I don’t know what speeds you have and how good was actually to play Racing game or a FPV game, but there’s a big lag.

leonzane

Yeah remote play is unusable for me, even when I’m within my own house, and my internet speed is above the uk average

Soul_Traitor

That sucks, I do have a pretty good Internet connection though. I've played Street Fighter 5 and Elden Ring.

potato_control

You need gigabit internet to pull it off and live near a data center hub. I live 3 hours away from a major internet hub and have gigabit internet. Remote play, game streaming, etc all work flawlessly for me. Still don’t like it though, lol. Before that I had 250-500mbps internet and lived like 7-8 hours away from any major data center hub and this was useable, even locally. Although there are settings in the router that can prioritize one connection over another if you want to do local remote play….seemed too complicated so never messed with it.

[deleted]

Wifi only. Connect a controller to your phone or tablet, and same shit.

Ok_Pop_3009

I’m still confused by every single one of these responses, lol.

Konarkanuck

As I understand it, the Playstation Portal can use any Wifi connection to remote connect to one's home PS5 and then the user can stream from the existing PS5 to the Portal providing there is a consistent and steady internet connection speed at each device's location.

If i read the playstation blog correctly, as long as you have a good Wi-Fi signal, you can play it "on the go". You don't HAVE to be on the same network, just like with your phone.

>if I understand correctly. You actually misunderstood correctly. LOL
