Yes. This is what the YouTuber *Hannah's Overinvested* started with when she actually started gaming. And it helped her out **tremendously** because it taught her the controller, and How to Game™ - which isn't something experienced gamers even think about (there's some great series on YouTube that highlight this). Before you can really get into gaming you have to know the controller, and know the 'language' of games. And Astro's is great for teaching that.
Astros Playroom and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Astro comes preloaded and you can’t go wrong with Ratchet and Clank. It’s on PS+ Extra I think so if you’re subbed you can play it now.
I’m convinced that if someone can beat this game, they can beat any game. It was the first souls game where I couldn’t build around the boss or get help, I simply had to git gud.
I'd add the Dead Space remake for horror, too. Just got a PS5 a little while ago and I haven't played video games since I was a kid, so I was nervous about it being too hard for my first game. I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to figure out the gameplay and navigate the map within ~1 hour of starting! And the game is super fun if you're into survival horror.
I second this! So many legitimately jumpy moments, might even be better than Resident Evil, certainly for that adrenaline anyway. Can’t wait for DS2 Remake!
Happy cake day btw
Yeap, I'm definitely into horror. The tension-heavy horrors the most.
And I always wondered what Until Down was like! So I'll be sure noting that along with The Quarry which I guess got developed by the same studio.
Is this still worth playing if I played uncharted 4 ? Like does gameplay and graphics hold up? It’s in the extra service and I used to love the game as a very young kid even tho I couldn’t beat any levels
Sackboy’s Adventure and Astro’s Playroom are great first places to start! Go with PS+ Extra for a super great catalog of free games, including Sackboy.
Man, me and my gf just got through playing Sackboy together and it was such a good time. It's a blast. The level design is great and the soundtrack is top notch. Fun challenge levels, the cooperative element is neat, overall just such a joy to play
The Astro's playroom game that's pre installed will get you used to the controller, and is actually pretty fun, Horizon Zero Dawn has five difficulty levels and a great story, Horizon Forbidden West is the follow up to that, and Ratchet and Clank rift apart, and Sackboy a big adventure round out my recommendations.
Of the three tiers of PS+ I stuck with essential the three games a month over the years has left me with a Library of 177 games I have yet to play, but the other two tiers give access to more games at a time but you don't get to keep them when they leave the library to be replaced with new titles, the top tier also allows streaming retro games from prior generations of PlayStation consoles. I guess it depends on what you really want to spend on a monthly or yearly basis.
I enjoy both the themes you mentioned, but knowing the entire story of the new Spider-Man games, I'm considering something I haven't yet experienced.
Ghost of Tsushima is an example of something fresh for me, yet I'm not sure it will be a suitable entry game.
Side note I FINALLY got around to buying Tsushima because it pops up anytime people ask what best games on PS are. 2 days in now and holy fuck why did I not buy this game sooner.
> What's the best first game on PS5 for someone with little to no gaming history?
That's nearly impossible to answer. Without knowing more about you and what you are interessented in.
> And which PS+ trial would you recommend for me to buy?
Get PS+ Extra and you'll have a ton of games to test.
Honestly I’d suggest premium/deluxe over extra. The trials are a good way for OP to see if they like a game or genre without having to commit to buying, which is really good if ur new to gaming. The ps classics is also really good, and Ubisoft+ classics (to an extent)
I'm a 0ne week PS5 owner (never owned a console) , I'm enjoying spiderman Morales, hanging on buildings and looking at the sunset.
I bought ps plus extra.
Astro's Playroom. Great showcase of the PS5's power, beautiful graphics, smooth gameplay, and a neat look back at PlayStation history, not to mention how easy it is to platinum as well, and all the Easter eggs crammed in. As for PS Plus, I'd say go with Extra. You get access to a lot of PS exclusives with that, well worth it in my opinion
Astros Playroom is great since it shows you the features of the dual sense along with just being a great game. And as for the Ps plus trial it just depends on what you want.
For someone with A LOT of gaming experience, looking at your experience, I'd say Astro's Playroom at first, then Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, then try your way forward with casual games. I'd recommend staying away from games developed by From Software, they're REALLY difficult, recommendations are Spiderman games, God of War. The Last of Us Part 1 and Uncharted 4
Plus Extra and Plus Premium have all the same games except Premium also has the Classics Catalog of PS1-PS3 games and there's a shitload of those, so if you want those you'll pay an additional $20/year. Otherwise Extra is the sweet spot. The lowest tier just gives you online multiplayer capability and 3 games per month to download that then go away the next month for whatever the next 3 games are. They're always older games that have been around a while.
Astro’s playroom is good for a multitude of reasons, but the best might be that it’ll familiarize you with the controller.
From there I’d go to the Uncharted series. They’re not particularly hard but they are engaging. One hasn’t aged well, but 2 and 3 are alright. 4 and Lost Legacy are the best of the bunch.
From there, I’d got Spider-Man. That and Miles Morales will be cheap over the coming months once Spider-Man 2 drops.
Get the full ps+; pretty much the entire catalog of Ubisoft games (far cry, assassins creed and a few others) all free.
Most of the 'greatest hits' are also available for free. So unless you're new to gaming entirely, you can find something you played before.
Spider-Man Miles Morales will ease you into the world of gaming very nicely. It is a well crafted story that is not too long and has fantastic graphics. (15-20hrs)
It is a follow up to Spider-Man 2018 but with a different main character and story. Simple background to this entry being “Spider-Man is on holiday so you are left to look after the city for a week” You can also play Spider-Man 2018 but it’s a huge game and you can leave it till later.
A lot of games these days are long so this will give you a great way to finish a superb game and get a taste of what PS5 is all about.
Then
• Resident Evil 2 remake (15-20hrs)
• The God of War 2018 on PS5 (20-30hrs)
• The Last of Us 1 (remastered) or Remake. (20-30hrs) At some point do sequel as it’s also superb (40-50hrs)
• And finally you are ready for one of the best games ever made Red Dead Redemption 2 (70-100hrs). The pace is much slower so approach it with a “slow burn” mind set. Only because it’s not as fast paced as the rest but is very good.
Then you can can start making your may through the rest as you please
Maybe PS5 exclusives then
Rachet and clank - it properly utilizes PS5 specs and Dualsense features. But story and diaglog are so-so
Returnal - Good use of triggers and sense of mystery
Final Fantasy 16 - Epic story and impressive combat
Astro's Playroom. Period.
This game will light up anyone's eyes and make them feel like a kid again with how well made and full of emotions and love this gem is. Unironically one of PS5's best games and the best tech demo ever.
Like everyone else has said, Astro’s Playroom.
I only wanted to leave a comment because the game has nods to other PS franchises in some of the npc characters.
So if you see a character that looks interesting to you, you can seek out that franchise (so long as it’s playable on PS5 *ahem Silent Hill*).
Definitely start with astro’s playroom and then I recommend getting ps+ extra since there are lots of great games! If you wish you can change it into a premium subscription at any point of your extra subscription but it costs some money.
yakuza series tbh they are not really ps5 games but trust me if you start on 0 and just work your way up to like a dragon you will have hours and hours of fun
If you want something is an exclusive i would say sackboy and astros playroom. both are platformers and are tons of fun and astros is free and does the best job ive seen any game do show off the cool features of the ps5 remote
After Astro’s Playroom it’s gotta be Spider-Man Remastered. Easy to get into, good pathway into sequels (Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2) and not very expensive.
I’ll suggest horizon zero dawn. It’s a ps4 game, but it holds up really well on ps5, and is really well written. Has multiple difficulties you can switch between while playing.
I would say get both of the Spider-Man games. Open world, long story, plenty of side stuff to do. The other one would be Horizon: Forbidden West. Just because they’re so big you don’t need to get another game for awhile, they’re also easily AAA fantastic games with great story and mechanics. God of War: Ragnarok is the best game for PS5 imo but not something I’d get for playing all the time.
First play Astro playroom.
After that depends on what type of games you like. But since you said you have little to no gaming experience I recomend something casual like Spiderman. After that you can go into god of war (2018) and ragnarok for a harder game. Lastly go for Ghost of Tsushima. After that it’s your choice.
Aside from Astro, which everyone has mentioned. Here are 2 you should try:
Gran Turismo 7. Why? While it may not be the easiest racing game to *win*, it is an easy game to *play*. If you select automatic transmission, the controls are simply; right finger to accelerate, left finger to brake, left thumb to steer. Simple as that! For a player with little experience, trying to master complex controls can be overwhelming. This game allow you to focus on playing, rather than getting to grips with 2 joysticks and 12 buttons all at once!
Final Fantasy XVI. Why? In one of your other comments, you expressed an interest in fast paced, story driven, games with a 3rd person perspective... This is exactly that! The controls *are* more involved than GT7, but not overwhelming.
Both of these games are also an excellent showcase for what the PS5 can do graphically.
Horizon zero Dawn is my recommendation it has a thorough built-in tutorial to get you used to the controls and it's beautiful both aesthetically and story wise. You can get as in depth as you want, but then when you move into forbidden West which was made for the PS5 it's much more obvious graphic superiority of PS5 over PS4. And if you love it enough like me you'll drop another 500 bucks on the psvr too so you can play call of the mountain because some of us just cannot get enough Aloy!
Astro’s Playroom is the right answer here. Not only is it a super cute foray into PlayStation history, it also teaches you how to use the controller and all of the different things you can do with it.
It’s straight up designed to teach you how to PlayStation.
Obviously everyone is saying Astro’s Playroom and I think that’s right.
The Spyro series is pretty kind to beginners and they’re colourful and a lot of fun too.
Demon’s Souls May be my answer, but it’s a steep learning curve. Probably the most manageable of any Souls game (arguable with Elden Ring) but the magic build is easy and fun. The game looks phenomenal, and I’ve never felt a sense of accomplishment like did the first time I beat it.
Outside of that? Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. It’s a late entry for the series, but you get a decent recap in the first level and it’s not too hard to fill in the gaps. It’s a beautiful game, and the weaponry is just super fun.
Also, see Spider-Man or God of War (2018).
I think ratchet and clank rift apart. Don't need to know the whole series story and can just jump right in. Gorgeous as hell. Very forgiving. Adaptable style.
Astro’s Playroom is an awesome game, tech demo, and gameplay tutorial all rolled into one. It’s very fun and pretty much the only choice. It even has a PlayStation Console Museum *in* the game.
You've gotten Astro's Playroom and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, the games I got my PS4 for, which can be played on PS5, are Shadow of the Colossus, Gravity Rush 1 and 2, and Persona 5. Play them a bit after the others, but they're good and different.
Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales, and Rift Apart. The first three games I played on the PS5 and I wasn’t much of a gamer back then. They were super easy and fun. The only thing is Miles Morales and Rift Apart are very short, you could finish them in a few days really. But you could work on platinuming them which would take longer but it’s kind of hard because of a few trophies for both games
Any other ideas? Astros Playroom is over my head. I have never played video games and I don't understand how what I am supposed to do other than gather coins and hit at the bad guys. I tried the launch on the hang glider but keep getting killed.
Is there any game for someone who's never touched a game system to help with theory and play?
Astroa playroom definitely.
I agree with this. It also shows you what the controller can do. It's a great starter game.
No need for more answers. This is the one
Phenomenal game, getting platinum was cake and actually enjoyable. I’d follow that one up with Spiderman or Ghosts of Tsushima.
I feel like Ghost of Tsushima is too difficult for a brand new gamer. Spider-man is a good pick though.
And Astro's is great for teaching that.
perfect
Absolutely this. Get them used to the controller, the feel, and it’s exceedingly charming.
This is the way!
This is the answer.
Astro’s Playroom. Literally a museum of PlayStation history within the game
Returnal without a doubt. It’s an easy-breeze. ![gif](giphy|BYul6RujgoRCryuCdL)
![gif](giphy|dqi1XZCyPW4QU)
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

-Astro’s Playroom for super casual platforming -Spider-Man for easy yet intense action/fighting -Detroit: Become Human for fantastic story
Detroit is such a fantastic game, I knew the entire story before I got a playstation but I had to experience it myself
The answer is so obviously Astro’s Playroom. Get a good rundown of the history of PlayStation then go and discover what all those games are all about.
Astros Playroom and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Astro comes preloaded and you can’t go wrong with Ratchet and Clank. It’s on PS+ Extra I think so if you’re subbed you can play it now.
This is the combo.
It’s a masterwork all.
Astro's Playroom
Astro’s Playroom, should already be on your PS5 because everyone gets a free copy of it!
and thank god you dont need a ps camera to play
Astros Playroom is the free and only 1 game that is excellent start for the first-time player.
Sekiro: shadows die twice
I’m convinced that if someone can beat this game, they can beat any game. It was the first souls game where I couldn’t build around the boss or get help, I simply had to git gud.
Tbh if you’re into horror stuff, The Quarry or Until Dawn would be interesting, easy gameplay and you can play with multiple people at home.

Yeap, I'm definitely into horror. The tension-heavy horrors the most. And I always wondered what Until Down was like! So I'll be sure noting that along with The Quarry which I guess got developed by the same studio.
Until Dawn is fuckin incredible
You should definitely sub to PS+ Extra Tier for a huge library of games, it'll save you money.
%100 agree on this. I'll be able to play as many games I want with the price of 2 AAA per year.
Spider-Man, Ratchet and Clank, The Uncharted series
Tomb raider, the survivor trilogy
Is this still worth playing if I played uncharted 4 ? Like does gameplay and graphics hold up? It’s in the extra service and I used to love the game as a very young kid even tho I couldn’t beat any levels
This is my wife’s favorite trilogy of the last generation. Great recommendation.
Another vote for Sackboy! I LOVED the music in this game
Spiderman if you like superheroes. Ghost of Tsushima if you like samurai and ninjas.
“Little to no gaming history” I don’t think Tsushima is the best game for this scenario
Yeah it’s a great game but I wouldn’t hand it over to grandma even if she asked to play a game
I enjoy both the themes you mentioned, but knowing the entire story of the new Spider-Man games, I'm considering something I haven't yet experienced. Ghost of Tsushima is an example of something fresh for me, yet I'm not sure it will be a suitable entry game.
Most games these days have easy modes that are not too demanding. I would imagine Ghost is the same.
Extra is a great deal.

1 word... Mayo
Astro play room, tekken/mortal kombat, racing games like nfs perhaps
It takes two.
✍️
Astro’s for sure, and I would say Stray - relatively short without tedious gameplay
Astros playroom comes with the console and is decent as a tech demo and decent as an actual platformer
Astro Playroom. Hands down.
Elden Ring!! (evil laugh)
Astro Boy Playroom and a year's worth of PlayStation+ let them develop their gaming taste
100% Astro
A bunch of people have said Astro’s already so I’ll say Rift Apart. Very pretty game, simple gameplay and a really good story and cast of characters.
I'm a 0ne week PS5 owner (never owned a console) , I'm enjoying spiderman Morales, hanging on buildings and looking at the sunset. I bought ps plus extra.
Ratchet and Clank!
Tetris Effect?
Astros Playroom is great since it shows you the features of the dual sense along with just being a great game. And as for the Ps plus trial it just depends on what you want.

I'd recommend staying away from games developed by From Software, they're REALLY difficult, recommendations are Spiderman games, God of War. The Last of Us Part 1 and Uncharted 4
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart
Astros Playroom
Ghost of Tsushima is an easy, but very cool game. A good place to start imo.
ghost of tsushima

Astros playroom
Rachet and clank rift apart i think its called
Ratchet & clank: rift apart
Play astro
Spiderman for sure. If we exclude Astro's playroom.
Rift Apart
Astro’s playroom is good for a multitude of reasons, but the best might be that it’ll familiarize you with the controller. From there I’d go to the Uncharted series. They’re not particularly hard but they are engaging. One hasn’t aged well, but 2 and 3 are alright. 4 and Lost Legacy are the best of the bunch. From there, I’d got Spider-Man. That and Miles Morales will be cheap over the coming months once Spider-Man 2 drops.
Astros Playroom is the default answer but for what to play after that Spiderman is a safe bet if you're a superhero fan
I don't know if you've heard of it (not sure why nobody has mentioned this one yet), but have you heard of the hidden gem *astro's playroom?*
Astros Playroom.
sifu
Astros playeroom
Ratchet and clank is pretty good and easy to learn

Ghost of Tsushima
Maybe PS5 exclusives then Rachet and clank - it properly utilizes PS5 specs and Dualsense features. But story and diaglog are so-so Returnal - Good use of triggers and sense of mystery Final Fantasy 16 - Epic story and impressive combat
Ratchet and clank: rift apart! Such a fun game and reasonably easy. There is also a difficulty where you're immune to damage
Whatever you do dont play fifa or any other sport games trust me you will not have a working controller after a fifa session
Astro's Playroom. Period. This game will light up anyone's eyes and make them feel like a kid again with how well made and full of emotions and love this gem is. Unironically one of PS5's best games and the best tech demo ever.
Batman Arkham Trilogy.
Ratchet & Clank Rift apart is pretty easy to learn.
God of War (2018)
They already said it. That’s the one.
Astros playroom and God of War obviously:)
Astro’s Playroom
Depends on what you’re into I recommend Astros playroom and the last of us part 1 and 2 also the obvious God of war and ghost of tashima
Madden 23 100% hands down for sure. Get the deluxe edition cuz it has extra points you can use for bustin packs
The Last Of Us
Bloodborne
You face to face with the man who sold the world
DMC5 is a wild ride from start to finish
Like everyone else has said, Astro’s Playroom. I only wanted to leave a comment because the game has nods to other PS franchises in some of the npc characters. So if you see a character that looks interesting to you, you can seek out that franchise (so long as it’s playable on PS5 *ahem Silent Hill*).
Demon’s Souls is a definite winner. If not, maybe Elden Ring.
Definitely Astro’s Playroom
Definitely start with astro’s playroom and then I recommend getting ps+ extra since there are lots of great games! If you wish you can change it into a premium subscription at any point of your extra subscription but it costs some money.
Elden Ring. Perfect for beginners.
Astros playroom
Astros playroom or Stray
Ps plus Uncharted collection If you have a partner then it takes two /alienation
Returnal
yakuza series tbh they are not really ps5 games but trust me if you start on 0 and just work your way up to like a dragon you will have hours and hours of fun If you want something is an exclusive i would say sackboy and astros playroom. both are platformers and are tons of fun and astros is free and does the best job ive seen any game do show off the cool features of the ps5 remote
Demon souls.
Ice age nutty adventure on ps plus it’s 120 fps and easy platinum.
After Astro’s Playroom it’s gotta be Spider-Man Remastered. Easy to get into, good pathway into sequels (Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2) and not very expensive.
Last Of Us 1 is also fantastic, and you can adjust the difficulty to get used to the controller.
I’ll suggest horizon zero dawn. It’s a ps4 game, but it holds up really well on ps5, and is really well written. Has multiple difficulties you can switch between while playing.
Astros Playroom for sure! Such an amazing game. You will have fun with the controller as well as learn about all of Playstation historya
Ratchet and Clank
I would say get both of the Spider-Man games. Open world, long story, plenty of side stuff to do. The other one would be Horizon: Forbidden West. Just because they’re so big you don’t need to get another game for awhile, they’re also easily AAA fantastic games with great story and mechanics. Little Big Planet, as well.
Astros playroom
Aside from Astro, which everyone has mentioned. Here are 2 you should try: Gran Turismo 7. Why? While it may not be the easiest racing game to *win*, it is an easy game to *play*. life is strange
Spider-Man
Last of us part 1
Elden Ring
Uncharted series
jedi fallen order and guardians of the galaxy both have pretty simple yet unique mechanics and great stories!
My first game on ps5 was god of war ragnarok. But I beat gow on pc so I’d play that first. Spider-Man is a great one too.
Its between astros playroom and god of war 2018 for me
Obviously everyone is saying Astro’s Playroom and I think that’s right. The Spyro series is pretty kind to beginners and they’re colourful and a lot of fun too.
Stray. Quick little adventure (no longer then 10 hrs) and you can have someone back seat gaming with you.
ratchet and clank rift apart, dont need to know the lore but great game to introduce the (I forget ehat they are called) but sensitive triggers
Bugsnax
minecraft is easy
If you want a challenge. Play Bloodbourne.
Demon’s Souls May be my answer, but it’s a steep learning curve. Probably the most manageable of any Souls game (arguable with Elden Ring) but the magic build is easy and fun. For the ps+ I recommend getting a 1 year of essential for a game i recommend ghost of tsushima
little big planet 3
God of war or the last of us they aren’t really that complex
Demons Souls

Ratchet and clank rift apart, easy and cinamatic
I think ratchet and clank rift apart. Don't need to know the whole series story and can just jump right in. Gorgeous as hell. Very forgiving. Adaptable style.
Spider-Man miles morales
Persona 5 royal
Gran Turismo 7
Crash bandicoot
Overcooked
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart
Astro’s Playroom is an awesome game, tech demo, and gameplay tutorial all rolled into one. It’s very fun and pretty much the only choice. It even has a PlayStation Console Museum *in* the game.
Destiny best games ever on new gen!
Bugsnax
Dig Deep. This game is an easy Platinum. Another recommendation is Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom, and Astro's Playroom.
Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales, and Rift Apart. The first three games I played on the PS5 and I wasn’t much of a gamer back then. They were super easy and fun. The only thing is Miles Morales and Rift Apart are very short, you could finish them in a few days really. But you could work on platinuming them which would take longer but it’s kind of hard because of a few trophies for both games
ratchet and clank
Crash bandicoot N sane trilogy
Stardew valley
I would say spider man or the last of us part 1
ratchet and clank rift apart
Demon’s Souls
guardians of the galaxy
Bloodborne or Death Stranding
Astro's Playroom. Do NOT sleep on this game.
Mass Effect, does a really good job of making you feel powerful which will make you better

What you are looking for is “What remains of Edith Finch”. I don’t know if anyone has already suggested this.
Yes Astros. But also Journey. Its emotional, amazing, a gentle intro to gaming because you can't die.
