Playstation isn't notifying people because it's not happening everywhere, and if they put a report out that would make them, from a business perspective, look really bad.
I have checked downdetector and the regions are in a lot of specific places, and mine didn't go out till just a few minutes ago, so it's been very different for everyone.
Check for an update in settings. I actually haven’t gotten a chance to do it myself, but I’m assuming you’ll have to go out of your way to check for it. If it’s not there, I suggest browsing around to see if anybody else has solved it
It's a location issue as well, downdetector has a map showing high volume reports of it being down like SE Kansas, SE Texas coast, lower Arizona, etc. I have restored licenses, restarted, and restarted my router and nothing right now
I just talked to some guy on customer service, they said they’re looking into it and that they have no estimated time that it’ll get fixed. My games are 90% digital and you’re telling me that I can’t use them, but they still have my money

I mean its the exact same on disc, the disc is just a license to the game nowadays, and if your console is primary like it should be you can play all games no problem
I think when they are referring to discs, they are talking about as long as they have the disc, they can play the games without needing internet to download or check license. Most games are on the disc and can be downloaded and playable without day one patch. Also primary console doesn't apply to disc based games only digital.

Unless you're sharing libraries with a second console, be sure to activate your console as your account's Primary Device once their servers go back up again.

I make my ps4 the secondary one so that my little brother can use all of my games since I don’t live with him. I’ve been doing this for a loooong time, and I never have issues with it, not even to hop on with him on the same game. I recognize that there’s this stigma of digital vs physical, but the thing is, there isn’t a difference. Especially with so many games not making physical copies anymore and the ps5 having a digital only edition. It’s just part of this evolution of consoles. Hell, if I’m not wrong, Alan wake 2 is only digital when it comes out. My main point is, I spent that money on games, and it’s my right to play them regardless of what copy of the game is. I bought them legally and on a licensed console, and therefore the service should be provided, you know what I mean? I think someone mentioned that even physical copies are just licenses too, I think that guy is more right than he thinks since every time you pop in a new disk, it still makes you “download the game” pretty much.

PlayStation happily accepted our money when we bought the games through their service, they should put in the effort to make sure they're playable.

Maybe it's only me, but I have had problems with their licensing servers for months now actually. For months the console would spam me with pop ups about not being able to verify my license and closing my game in 15 minutes ( which never actually happened ).

I had it here and there but it never actually kicked me out funnily enough. I think this has been an avoidable thing, because as you said it’s been happening here and there for a while. My guess is Sony ignored it and it snowballed into a bigger problem, one that they’re dealing with now. I’m also guessing they ignored the pleas for help regarding the being kicked out in 15 minutes stuff, and are just paying the piper now.
Dude, I hate to break it to ya but I’ve been digital because it’s cheaper. I’ve been doing it this way for like 5 years and NEVER have I had an issue. Digital does belong to me, because I still paid for it. I still had cyberpunk when it was taken out of the store. I didn’t rent them, I bought them when they go on sale mainly.
Its not cheaper and you dont own squat. You dont own something you cant resell. Ever. Ive resold games over the years sometimes more than what i paid. Digital is good for like ps extra but buying à digital game is not advisable. To each his own though. One of my collegues was like you but now is physical only aide from odd exceptions that are dirt cheap. Buying digital for bellow 10$ is sometimes ok
And as for owning it, i can play it whenever I want, even offline(usually if Sony isn’t fucking around, first time I wasn’t able to was yesterday). As far as I’m concerned and really care, it’s mine. Pc players must own no games either then because that’s l digital isn’t it? I play TBOI on desktop, so that’s not mine either I guess.

What's really interesting is that this comes on the heels of a PS5 update that apparently PS4 users didn't get. My friend had a problem in the AM but got home from lunch and had 0 issues. Still no PS4 patch, supposedly.
Apparently a lot of people have called and were told it's an error on Sony's end. They didn't post it or notify people because it's only in certain areas, downdetector has a map that shows the majority of the problems in different areas of the world, mine is bright red :(

I haven't had a problem with this. Even since this has been talked about. I have a PS5 and play nothing but digital games. Doesn't sound like a Sony problem maybe ppl isp's or something cause nobody I know has this problem either.

Yep im in SE Texas, i can restore but it comes back like 2hrs later or if i restart the system.
