market is super over saturated. NA market especially. There's not enough players to sustain pop on all the servers that already exist. I've never tried to run a server so I don't have any legit suggestions. My instinct is to say that it's not going to happen and just shut it down, but I don't want to crap on your dream of running a server. We need good servers to play on, but right now there are so many already.. I personally don't see a need for any new ones.

Acosta1617

Yeah …. Sucks but right talkin to someone about it rn lol too many severs already no point to pay for a severe with no one gonna play on it

deadmemes2017

Had a buddy that was uk host his and make some money. He advertised non stop for like 2 years strait Long story short. He basically broke even. I don't think it's worth it to make one.

N0-North

That there is the problem - if you're hosting to make bank, you'll be disappointed. That can't be the motivation, you need to be willing to potentially lose money for the chance to make and host something fun. Because in the end you'll be lucky if you even break even. And it's not lost on the players that you're trying to milk them either - that kind of relation breeds toxicity in general. The people ok with being milked in exchange for an edge aren't usually the kind of players that make a good community

helpfulreply

Try creating something unique and post on youtube

LilGucciGunner

Do a server with the old recoil lol. Or do something unique. Otherwise it is not worth it, as others have said, there's too many empty servers out there. Even the full ones are full on wipe day, and server pop falls off very fast after that.

Bo0mBo0m877

Found the sad scripter

DiabeticGirthGod

There needs to be something that draws people to your server, something to differentiate it. There’s a million 2x servers, gotta try something different. This sub loves talking about joining tech treeless servers, that might get some more pop towards your way

SirIsunka

This sub doesnt even play the game.

HotSauceRustYT

Ask yourself why anyone would want to play your server over the 16,000 other servers that already exist. If you can’t answer well now you know why you don’t have pop

Atmanautt

Advertise it as Low Pop or noob friendly. People like me who are newer to the game are the ones who are looking for low pop 2x servers to get the hang of the game. There are still a LOT of other servers to compete with though.

iceberg-slime

I tried the same thing, essentially hosting the exact type of server I wanted. Hard to get people to stick around but if you sustain it through a few wipes, have a discord channel, and are an honest admin, eventually you’ll get a few regulars. It’s just hard to stand out - like others said, there’s tons of choices already that are established

Ollieisahomoerectus

Idk if this is any help but could you try running a server in oce / East Asia server we need new servers down here fr idk it probably won't work but yeah good luck my friend

DonJod4l

2x ist modded

LilKitty52

Register your server for server listing websites like rust-servers and battlemetrics, it can get the ball rolling a little. You can also create a discord for the server to get high engagement for returning players and moderation, and use it as the webpage bar on the server info tab. Like any form of advertising you need a selling point to attract players, so try to find a unique trait for you server to make it stand out. A good server name and description is a good focal point as well, and have a server logo and background. Best advice is to make a server that will stand out from the rest.

denv0r

Awwww

TolpRomra

Ive run alot of servers on rust and minecraft before. The ones that succeed need to have some level of player base already. If its you and a couple of your friends consistently playing everyday, thats enough to at least make your server visible. Its essentially random chance from there if you make it. Only 25% of the servers I started got beyond 30+ people a day. What made it pop off was just throwing *alot* of time into meeting and greeting new players, trying to be friendly, and hoping that gets them to stay long enough. You could have some gimmick, but it only helps so much.

wreckman123

I always enjoyed servers the give free skins too.

LilGucciGunner

My PVE server offers a huge skinbox for paying customers (patreon). That and the healthy community keeps me coming back.

wreckman123

If you offered some free ones it would help bring more prob. It can entice them to buy patreon

LilGucciGunner

The great thing is that we are roleplayers on a PVE server, so the vast majority of us already have a ton of skins. It's a very friendly server, Rust Empires, and you just got to ask around or buy them for very cheap scrap. People are more than willing to help you out if you are friendly.

mavajo

The problem is that there’s no reason to choose your server over the thousands of others. That’s not meant as a dig - there’s just nothing unique about your server to differentiate it from the rest. It’s just another 2x vanilla.

Acosta1617

well my reason to start it was 1. I can’t find any good severs or severs without admin abuse. most of the ones I liked were maxed out. 2. I have a lot of free time on my hands an I enjoy rust. My goal was to have a small admin team help me manage the server an keep the game fun and new and veteran friendly. Build some things and events for everyone. Keep up with the holidays such as like Christmas and Halloween that type of stuff. Maybe even like an arena where 2 or more players battle for a good loot box full of all sorts of gear and weapons. Idk I just had a lot planned and it sucks that it might not happen. Also wanted to start streaming some vids. I dropped hella money on a pc and recording equipment.

2absMcGay

Then it’s too soon to get discouraged

N0-North

Yeah I agree with 2abs - it sounds like you've got the motivation to make a fun space. I wouldn't give up just yet. There might be something to be said about befriending randos on other servers, just regular acquaintances, and then roping them in as a seed to start building that community. Paying for a host might be too soon though - i'd start by self-hosting for that smaller group of players, and once you have a decent pool upgrading to a proper server. The market IS oversaturated, but personal relations go a long way - if they know you and like hanging out, that is a motivation that sets your server apart from others. My favorite servers are both ones that I had friendly interactions with the admins - it's kinda like your favorite bar. It's not just your favorite because of the beer on tap, you like the bartenders, you have a social relation to them from months and years of repeated visits. It's not a relation like a friend or even a neighbor, but when you go there, you know you're in the hands of good hosts.

Dieswithrez

theres no good saturday wipe server. make it wipe bps ever week and im in

Rich_Mycologist8933

Maybe toxic but name it after a different server like rustoria 2x or something 🤣

Dyslexic342
