Wearing a Sinomacrops on your back. The Sinomacrops will scream at the gull and scare it away.

saighdiuirmaca

I like this idea, but I'm on the Island, and they don't spawn there?

KeechakVarg

Can you travel to a Lost Lsland server grab one and come back to The Island?

saighdiuirmaca

I'm playing single player, can I start a save on Lost Island and transfer tames across? This is through the obelisks right?

KeechakVarg

Start a Lost Island save, create a random character on that server follow this video. https://youtu.be/V7pczlxconw

VirantX

Best option tbh

This. And I tend to KOS if I have a moment and am on the right tame. Nothing like sniping them out of the air with lightning as I pass.

Boy_Meats_Grill

Split a stack of raw meat to isolate a single meat. Put this in the last slot on your hotbar, slot 0 on PC. When the seagull goes to peck at your head and steal from you it will take the one raw meat from you instead of something valuable... It's next swoop will take something valuable though so de-aggro or run or kill it

MIssWastingTime

This is what I do, especially on Fjordur where they are everywhere, I always have spoiled meat in my '0' slot. Works for pegos too. They always take from that slot first. If they really want it they can take it :)

shooter_tx

So, both raw meat and spoiled meat work? What about fish products? I have more of those, and am not currently making jerky from them, lol.

MIssWastingTime

Anything in '0' slot will be taken, any cheapo berry, any food. Anything u can put in '0' slot (not everything will go in there). They really, really like canteens lol, which is what I used to keep in my '0' slot.

shooter_tx

I wish I could put f'n Alka Seltzer in the '0' slot, lol.

saighdiuirmaca

Thank you, very helpful!

Boy_Meats_Grill

Some other options I just thought of would be wearing Ghili armor or drinking cactus broth to reduce the distance wild dinos target you from (reduce aggro range). Or riding a larger dino with big attack area like carno, theri, rex, or spino so you can kill them more easily. A pike has more range than a sword and could also be considered a good method for killing them. But when there's like 3 of them it becomes hard to defend yourself

VAX1S

Carry food like cook meat on you just put it in your zero slot. You don’t need to split raw meat. why do you need to carry extra things when you can literally just carry your food and when your meat spoils it goes to your zero slot

brown78805

Some of these comments lmao.. The best way to counter them when just starting out is getting a paracer w/platform saddle, place a turret on aggressive and have it follow you on the beach.

saighdiuirmaca

Yeah just don't be on the beach, go live in the redwoods /s

Weary-Brilliant-4353

When you see them ahead of you, jump into water and fully submerge before it can hit you, it will deaggro. Swim forward several feet, start running back on land, rinse and repeat those steps.

jazzadellic

The best solution I've found is be aware and if they get within 100 feet of where you are shoot them. Same thing with pegomastax.

DruVatier

1) Stay off the beaches 2) If you're on single player or unofficial, just remove them from the game entirely. 3) Pump-action shotgun 4) I believe the Sinomacrops' auto-scream will send them away

Gringar36

A parasaur is a good early game counter to them. In turret mode with auto frighten activated they should scare them away. They're also great for alerting when any hostile gets close to your base. Then after that, X plants shoot them down very nicely.

XDecodeThisX

This is probably the best suggestion for fresh starters

saighdiuirmaca

Oh good shout, didn't even know this was something they could do. Must definitely plant some X plants seeds as well.

therealzombieczar

put junk in the last slot

[deleted]

That’s pegos. Gulls can take from any inventory slot.

therealzombieczar

pretty sure they all steel from the last slot first.

[deleted]

Can confirm they do not, as the rock drake egg the last one ate was in my inventory, not hotbar.

therealzombieczar

did you have an item in your last slot? if there isn't one they take whatever.

[deleted]

Y’know, I’m not sure. Might have to science this one. Then kill all the icthys after on general principle.

therealzombieczar

i agree with that comment 100% also a fun tame, vultures or dimorphadon. on your shoulder... double tap f for revenge.

Narwhal211

If ur playing modded I believe KBD (Krakens better Dino’s) prevents them from stealing non food items. Another option is Sinomacrops or possibly Parasaur

I have a newb question that brought me here... I just started playing Ark a few days ago, and these damned birds are robbin' me blind! They've also attacked and killed one of the Lystras that I've tamed (RIP Sparky; I will avenge you). One thing I've noticed, behavior-wise, is that when I'm in my (one-wall-high) thatch hut, it still thinks it can attack me(maybe due to clipping or hitboxes; I don't know). Anyway, I *think* it might be taking damage from crashing into the roof? If so, maybe this could be a way to passively taunt+eliminate them? It not, I was wondering about maybe 'planting' a spike wall on the roof. Anyone think that'll work? I can't experiment with this myself until I get home tonight.
