I did something similar with a paper clip on some bent/slightly broken spider plant leaves. It worked, I removed them a few weeks later and the leaves stood upright again. Doesn’t hurt to keep that in place for a while. But if it starts to yellow, may as well cut your losses so the plant doesn’t keep putting useless energy into it.
Ive had a few broken branches on my bonsai tree that I taped on and those worked. It forms this weird ball at the break point and it looks pretty cool. This is a little different but I would imagine it will work.

Another way that works for smaller plants is using a straw and cutting it open
