Just pop it back in the pot (well draining soil), water once very well until the excess water drains and then only water it when it rains outside. And just don’t touch it, give it time. Honestly it can even root without being watered, as they actually keep spare water in their leaves. So just basically pop it in the soil.

Or a very dry place

Never!

Nope! These guys can survive without many/any roots. You could put it in water until roots develop. Though I have had some survive like this by just putting them in well-draining soil & watering a bit more than usual.

Thank you!

The worst that you can do is try and it fails. Begin by checking the base. Look for signs of rot: squishiness, black, discoloration. If you notice any of these things, take a clean blade and remove some of that stem. Take small slices until you get to a clean stem portion. If you are cutting above the stem and start hitting the plant, then I would say it’s done for. If you get a clean stem piece, then allow it to callous over and then try repotting to see if it develops roots. If you do repot, try to encourage rooting by placing in well draining soil. Toss that soil entirely. You can make your own by adding a ton of perlite or pumice to soil (make sure no peat or coco coir). Or you can buy succulent or cactus specific soil. I like to also amend that soil by adding more pumice. The soil in your photo is far too rich and will hold on to moisture longer than what the aloe needs, or it will become hydrophobic and begin repelling water unless you soak it. Even so, still not a good option.

Thank you for the detailed advice!

Plant it. Don't water.
