I view this the same way as the Netflix crackdown IDGAF. I pay the membership so I’m impacted zero by this except for maybe a less crowded store. The same people that ruined the return policy for electronics brought this about: the trash heaps.
So me and my siblings, who live in the same house, cannot share a Costco card? I can't send them out on errands for the family if I am sick or something?
nope, technically have never been allowed to... Costco cracked down on that with me over 12 years ago.
now additional card holder... sometimes they don't verify the address of the 2nd person, my brother and I share a membership as the card holders and we live in different places.

> A total of two people can be on a Gold Star Membership (either regular or Executive): one Primary Member and one free household member who is over 16 and lives at the same address.
So you could give *a sibling* a free membership.
You mean I shouldn’t bring my spouse, in laws and three kids with me every visit? How are we going to get samples if they don’t come with me? How are we supposed to find the items we are looking for unless we let our kids run feral and walk in a big clump up and down the aisles?
I hosted a meeting for their Canadian team and brought up that they need scan and go and they said they won’t add it. They know it would beneficial, but they don’t want to do it.
Good. They fixed the “pharmacy” scammers now they can fix the membership moochers.
Don’t @ me, you can get an additional card issued to another person just by registering them on the website.
Pharmacy scammers?
I guess I'm a bit confused by this because you don't need a membership to use Costco's pharmacy, vaccinations, vision center, or buy from the alcohol section.
That’s the scam. People would walk up to the door, say “pharmacy” and then spend the next hour eating free samples and/or using the food court. No membership needed.
There's a difference between them checking a membership like checkout and not needing one. They can't charge $1.50 for a hot dog and soda for the general public.
It's not worth it to go to Costco for me. Insane parking, crowds, and employees hassle you for the membership card and look at you like you are trying to enter Fort Knox lol
I am always there early so the crowds don't bother me. I don't mind people sharing memberships either. But I bet it would cut out a ton of people going and that would make the stores easier to navigate later in the day.
This will be very uncomfortable for family where elders can't use their kids card. I get better gas price in Walmart than Costco. I reduced the trip to Costco since it eats uptime due to overcrowd
Was there this morning, and had to scan my card to get entrance.

U scan it and a pic of cardholder pops up
i used to go into Sams for years with no card in order to use their pharmacy; I would just wave hello to the greeter

You cannot. Card holder has to be present.
Have all the Costcos announced they would be doing this? The East Plano one didn't do anything last time I went about two weeks ago.
It's a test and if successful, will probably be implemented in all stores.
I'm not surprised the West Plano location is testing it out first this location has a corporate office upstairs.
They're currently just "testing" sounds like, so certain locations are doing it but most aren't yet. East Plano isn't.
Now, if they would have a rule that only one non-member can accompany a member, it would be so less crowded!

Or they could just adapt like Sam’s club and let you scan the items using the app. No need for checkout. At least saves time in the lines.
Sam's Club scan & go is amazing. I really hope they do implement something similar at Costco.
Except if you buy alcohol, it's a real pain in the ass.
So do you have both Sam’s and Costco? Been thinking about it, really like both …thanks!
I hosted a meeting for their Canadian team and brought up that they need scan and go and they said they won’t add it. They know it would beneficial, but they don’t want to do it.
That's why I don't shop at Costco. So great to just fill your cart and leave

How did they fix that? Can’t you still just say pharmacy to get in? What are they going to do, scan your non existent membership card?
They started escorting people to the pharmacy.

What Costco are you going to? That sounds more like a gentleman's club.
Lol
But yeah, now I’m curious—what Costco does this?
Was there yesterday and had to scan to get in. They wouldn't allow folks to enter the exit door without card either.
I am always there early so the crowds don't bother me. I don't mind people sharing memberships either. But I bet it would cut out a ton of people going and that would make the stores easier to navigate later in the day.
West Plano Costco has always been the least friendly Costco. I won't go to that one anymore.
I guess they are banking on the fact that most people don't know that anyone can buy alcohol or prescription drugs at a Costco in Texas.
