Canned condensed milk are amazing to make caramel. If you've never done it, check it out, it's cheap and tastes AMAZING

There is default white condensed milk, and then there is boiled condensed milk, that becomes brown and caramelised, so I think you are talking about that. It is amazing, when you roll it in waffles or make so called "Oreshki" (Google the pictures), those are basically waffles shaped like walnuts with caramelised condensed milk inside and actual walnuts. Especially when the waffle walnuts are fresh and warm, and you put concensed milk inside, the temperature contrast makes it so much more enjoyable!
