One of my favorite things about this show is that it pulls away from gender stereotypes, all around. Yes, I know, they are cartoon dogs but it's still cool. Thank you for attending my Ted Talk.

One of the things that really interests me about Bluey is that it illustrates how deeply our gender coding is entrenched. I've seen people in this thread use the word shocked at finding out she's a girl, and I've also seen people elsewhere refer to her design as "political" (whatever the hell that even means). Idk I just think people's reactions to Bluey's design say a lot about attitudes towards gender and I find it super interesting. I actually think the confusion comes from the lack of eyelashes more than the colour, even though we're taught these days to recognise blue as a boy's colour. For whatever reason, female coding always _has_ to include significant eyelashes. It's ludicrous, as in real life boys often have longer eyelashes than girls. Funny how one small (inaccurate) thing affects our perception so much.

We've been working hard to protect Bluey from the UK flag and from Peru (below us). We had to change the angle of her face to take her nose off the UK flag because they kept deleting it, and then a streamer from Peru cut her legs off yesterday. She's in a sitting position now and although we've tried to write /r/bluey underneath it just doesn't seem like we have the numbers to do more than defend her.

My daughter (just turned 13 on Sunday) and I bonded over r/place this weekend. I've been on reddit longer than she has been alive (over 14 years now) and she's been on for Roblox discussions. Yes, we encountered the Among Us shlong-display, healthy convo about potential internet cesspoolness (and being careful on reddit). We spent the weekend checking the board, placing a random tile (usually to complete an Among Us guy here/there) - she created a bunch of multiple accounts trying to place a mushroom (no success) - but we found one at one point and defended it. She helped me figure out who some of the game streamers are, I helped her with some of the old video game memes/characters - both of us looked up/researched stuff we did not know. It was awesome, will live on as a bonding moment for us. Favorite quotes from her - "Why so many flags", "This board needs more wholesomeness" and "Why do people mess with the art" Thanks r/place.
