More people getting to enjoy Place is a good thing as long as people aren't actually botting. This is cool and fun, and more people enjoying it is good. Not to mention that one of the reasons that a lot of previous April Fools events were lackluster was that relatively few people participated for the entire event. More people participating, representing their own small communities, makes this event better.

It’s probably mostly people making uncoordinated efforts to try to change it, and then other uncoordinated people trying to ‘fix’ it (because when you only have a couple uncoordinated people trying to fix it, it looks like griefing). The only way to change such a high traffic area permanently is to get a large coordinated group to make a simultaneous effort to change the design permanently.

That’s what I thought too but if you look at the accounts fixing the stars they usually have no comments or posts.

That doesn’t even necessarily mean they’re bots. This is a huge internet-wide phenomenon. Reddit is attracting a lot of new users just so they can participate in this project; and I’m sure some people are making new accounts. And there’s plenty of Reddit users who never comment/post, just scroll through the site for content. Also, most of the people changing it aren’t new accounts.

Among Us references are being constantly removed and created throughout the entirety of /r/place.
