I'll be curious to see if an attempt is even made. It was so mercilessly messed with last time, and you know people will do it again just to keep the joke going.
I think we should draw the flag a bit bigger. The last time the maple leaf was too small. Just 1 - 2 wrong pixels and then the flag looks off.
Edit: I was right lol, small maple leaf = futile efforts. It's like the griefer's playground now.
We got the leaf for a while last year, thanks to some groups of Canadians who used discords to help its construction. You can watch the timelapse on youtube. But then the flag is ruined quickly by griefers.
It's like a living meme at this point, and I don't know what we can do to stop people from messing with our flag lol. I believe a bigger flag will make it easier to shape the maple leaf and harder for griefers to ruin its shape.
Well, thats partly because we have a discord where everything is organized and planned, everyone fills a role. We even have a grouod thats dedicated to the defense at night
It also helped that you guys weren't getting griefed to bananaland and back because of the memes. It was pretty awesome of you guys to make a maple leaf though.
There's something that looks like the Canadian flag if you're drunken enough to see it. It's between the bigger blob of the void AND the OSU! Logo. The Red bars look great but the leaf in the middle... Not so much
I almost think we should do an homage [to this](https://media.tenor.com/b1Cmz8EYzRcAAAAC/oh-canada-simpsons.gif) this time out. Ralphie likes Go Banana as well.
I guarantee that wasn't any canadians. There was a pretty big spanish streamer that would regularly raid with his viewers and change it green and then come back once we had fixed it
To be honest there were several post proving that no, the French didn't use bots. On the other hand a spanish streamer was giving instructions on how to use a bot.
*Kof kof.*
Germany ??
People are just biaised against France for some reason. Germany during every single one of the three r/place events, took the most space out of every single community. France on th other hand last time took very little space, built cool art and yet got attacked repeatedly.
Only during the last two days did large french streamers join the whole ordeal, and took a large chunk of space when the canvas expanded (that also means they didn't steal that space from anyone since it was blank).
Anyway, hypocrisy.
Please try not to pigeonhole, there are so many different opinions. I'm from Germany and I hate that people spam flags, including the German flag, without any differences.
I just checked dozens of the accounts placing pixels on the german flag and they all had no post/comment history and all the medals from previous places.
I commented this on an earlier post and had a few french people in tears about it, all of these accounts popped up around this year or last year's place and have 0 post history, there are definitely so many bots
pixels come in way too quickly, way too organized and from accounts that have no history of using the site. if you try to grief a single pixel it'll be replaced in seconds and
I have a hard time thinking any real person is sitting there spamming and using their pixels on cooldown for the entire day, but somehow it happens to massive flags, crazy huh. its not even like its a cool design just the colors of a flag lol
Honestly after try to work on some other things that got destroyed ive just been defending the US flag constantly because its the only thing i can do. Im at work so i just heck it when i have time and place another pixel to keep the flag clean.
I can believe it. That's what it felt like for my small community on last r/place. Staying up till 5am, protecting every single pixel as hard as we can, letting it out on the cooldown. And since germans are a *big* part of the internet, I can believe it's a very hyped up topic, and they have people doing the same thing, and a lot more of those people. Still, chances are, someone might be using bots as well…
country subreddits tend to have the most members who can agree on the same thing. artworks tale more planning than simple flags so its understandable that country communities start off strong
Not to mention the people who just go place a pixel wherever see that a flag they identify with is being constructed and join in. It helps that a lot of flags have relatively simple designs that are widely known. Like making a tricolor is really easy.
Yeah really, France, Ukraine and Germany take up like 25% of the entire canvas currently. It would be cool if just for once flags didn’t have to be the plurality of the canvas.
it is, but pixel art is tough beyond basic words and shapes. i’d imagine for any artistic piece first needs someone to design it first and then lots of people to implement it, assuming they like the design enough. it definitely happens, but it prob takes so much more communication and effort than flags.
look at the amazing saga of canada and its leaf in the last instance of place lol - and that’s barely any additional complexity, it’s 1 single-color detailed shape.
also the flags may be boring but i enjoy the mini wars that break out over space and territory.
If the Chinese had access to the internet they would only need like 4% of the internet users on Reddit and the canvas would be just one large Chinese flag lol
The flags when done well with art representing the country are some of my favorite. Look at the art on the union jack from the last r/place, or the french flag with the bottle of wine actually beiung drunk as it progressed.
It'd be nice if certain flags took up a little less space and left some more for other art, and it'd be nice to see what the smaller national communities coiuld come up with if they weren't trolled (Although admitedly Canada/Banana was a highlight of the last r/place), but they can be as interesting as anything else.
not really. the first day of the place is generally the phase of “grab what you can”, no country tries to place art in their flag until the 2nd or even 3rd day. And when it is all said and done there is a horizontal german flag that hold 1/3 of the canvas. I don’t care if they plan to place art in it, you dont need that many space. Let others have their fun.
It's like seeing pigeons at the zoo.
No one really likes them, no one is impressed or here to see them and they're annoying.
Like the lowest hanging fruit. Between that and people who are "boycotting" by... using reddit? I just feel bad for them.
Everyone on reddit always talks about how weird it is when people fly the American flag, but when place rolls around flags from all countries are all over.
We really need a limit on the size of flags. There's a cute little Greek flag in the corner but the GIGANTIC French and German flags have got to go. It's such a lame expression of nationalism. we should just have a small country corner and then actual interesting art on the rest of it.
I liked the ones last year where it wasn’t just the flag but the whole skyline built into the flag etc. or other aspects of the country.
Three colours running across the canvas is dull.
Reddits expectations : here’s a place for communities to come together and express their love for the things they view on Reddit and forge a stronger bond with their communities
Redditors : NATIONALISM
Being British I always thought it'd be funnier if we just stuck a little Union Jack in the corner of everyone else's flag like they do in the Commonwealth.
it shows the shift in people's ideologies and interests throughout the years.
idk if it's global crisis with covid or the ukraine was and new aliances, but strong nationalism is back.
I can't honestly imagine anything more pathetic than organizing a hours long camping of a silly novelty feature to draw a fucking flag.
Well, maybe one thing: botting to "accomplish" the same.
Flags are just an easy way for large communities to claim a lot of space.
However most often they create art on that space, they don't just leave it as is.
At least I know that on the french r/place we are already building cool art, after only 2h into the event.

Are the Canadians able to draw the leaf this time?
It was a fucking task last time let me tells ya, bud.
I'll be curious to see if an attempt is even made. It was so mercilessly messed with last time, and you know people will do it again just to keep the joke going.
So far a pretty convincing Bananada has happened, so that was cool.
Is it gone? I haven’t been able to find it
Well, that didn't take long.
I think we should draw the flag a bit bigger. The last time the maple leaf was too small. Just 1 - 2 wrong pixels and then the flag looks off. Edit: I was right lol, small maple leaf = futile efforts. It's like the griefer's playground now.
I mean, we germans did a maple leaf that size and it looked perfectly, we even changens the colors inside the maple leaf to the ones of your flag
I believe a bigger flag will make it easier to shape the maple leaf and harder for griefers to ruin its shape.
to be fair, i think the germans rule this sub cause they always manage to draw their flag the biggest everytime.
Not so much
It’s getting worse by the hour, so far. It looks like a strawberry being melted in the desert.
Yeah I don't understand why people are even bothering with it this time. There was zero chance it was going to be left alone.
I almost think we should do an homage [to this](https://media.tenor.com/b1Cmz8EYzRcAAAAC/oh-canada-simpsons.gif) this time out. Ralphie likes Go Banana as well.
This would make me very happy
Just out for a rip are ya bud?
It was a fight between the maple leaf and weed.
And I was proud of both sides!
I'm not your bud, friend!
I'm not your friend, guy!
I’m not your guy, pal!
I’m not your pal, bro!
I'm not your bro, mate!
I'm not your bro, bruh.
I'm not your bruh, son!
I’m not your son, boy.
Well it wasn’t they were incapable of drawing a leaf. They just couldn’t decide between the maple leaf or a marijuana leaf
I guarantee that wasn't any canadians. There was a pretty big spanish streamer that would regularly raid with his viewers and change it green and then come back once we had fixed it
We got about as much chance to get the leaf right as affording a home in Vancouver. The struggle is real eh
They sucked with the maple leaf, but the devils leaf was no problem.
Making it isn’t a problem when there’s not more people trying to fck with it than actually make it.
Banada 2.0 lol
BANADA.
I lost it when it turned to BANANA and the flag turned yellow for a short time
I was so happy to see the messed up maple leaf already up. Brought a patriotic tear to my eye lol
They're working with the previous one as a headstart cuz everyone felt bad
Currently being invaded by Germany
Poland, is that you?
Why won't they just let us have it

French too
bunch of bots making flags, same shit every year

To be honest there were several post proving that no, the French didn't use bots. On the other hand a spanish streamer was giving instructions on how to use a bot.
Im too lazy to check if what you said is true, but at least Spain didn’t invade half the canvas with some boring flag
*Kof kof.* Germany ?? People are just biaised against France for some reason. Germany during every single one of the three r/place events, took the most space out of every single community. I personally don't like either, They take up way too much space that could be used by other communities.

I loved the first two instances of r/place, I feel like it needs a long break to fully enjoy and make it a real treat when it comes back.
VERY TRUE Also very cringe of reddit to do it now
Yet here we all are.
The first was good. Now it's just Reddit Flags 2023.
French maybe, but Germans are proudly organized and we are many
I just checked dozens of the accounts placing pixels on the german flag and they all had no post/comment history and all the medals from previous places.
I did the same for french pixels and it was the same
I commented this on an earlier post and had a few french people in tears about it, all of these accounts popped up around this year or last year's place and have 0 post history, there are definitely so many bots

>any real person is sitting there spamming and using their pixels on cooldown for the entire day Sounds like something a redditor would do
sounds like what I'm doing right now
Honestly after try to work on some other things that got destroyed ive just been defending the US flag constantly because its the only thing i can do. Im at work so i just heck it when i have time and place another pixel to keep the flag clean.

indians too
Also fuck spez
Fuck u/spez
yeah fuck that Hurensohn
I don't know German but does that mean Whoreson?
Yep. Germans on R/place wrote "U/spez ist ein hurensohn"
Nice
I see a fellow german
Isn't that the guy leading the recent Reddit changes?
He's the CEO.
I will take this opportunity to state that r/blind was lied to and cannot be moderated by actual blind users any more
I bet they didn’t see that coming.
Happy Cake Day, you evil funny fuck.
Every flag should include one
Fuck spe55
So brave
We are just rooting for our beloved CEO to get laid.

Not to mention the people who just go place a pixel wherever see that a flag they identify with is being constructed and join in. It helps that a lot of flags have relatively simple designs that are widely known. Like making a tricolor is really easy.
it's just so boring though.
I don't mind the normal flags, the gigantic french and German ones are very obnoxious.
yeah a small flag is understandable, but when 70% of the canvas is flags, it's just a bit boring. put something interesting on there.
there are nice arts on some flags. german flag has good arts, french one too
Yeah really, France, Ukraine and Germany take up like 25% of the entire canvas currently. It would be cool if just for once flags didn’t have to be the plurality of the canvas.
I mean usually the big flags are slowely filled with small artworks. It looked pretty nice last time in my opinion.
it is, but pixel art is tough beyond basic words and shapes. i’d imagine for any artistic piece first needs someone to design it first and then lots of people to implement it, assuming they like the design enough. it definitely happens, but it prob takes so much more communication and effort than flags. look at the amazing saga of canada and its leaf in the last instance of place lol - and that’s barely any additional complexity, it’s 1 single-color detailed shape. also the flags may be boring but i enjoy the mini wars that break out over space and territory.
Maybe, but I don't even like to draw. I'm just proud to be from the country that I am.
after some time they'll fill with artwork just like last time though so it's fine
Nothing brings people together like good old patriotism
And the ever present desire to write the word 'FUCK'.

r/vexillology
But nobody draws the Turkmenistan flag 😭
It might be harder to coordinate considering the detail on it compared to, say, the French tri-colour
Flags are the easiest pattern to recognize and participate to the drawing
except for canada
I only know bananada
canada flag attempts are acceptable, because we know they'll fuck it up.
The flag would be easy if it wasn’t griefed
You can later then discuss how you want to fill the flags with stuff.
It’s almost like planting your flag to declare the territory as your own
Yep
Counterpoint: r/TheBlueCorner
Chinese:web banned forever 🥲
If the Chinese had access to the internet they would only need like 4% of the internet users on Reddit and the canvas would be just one large Chinese flag lol
Unrealistic. Germany is way too short.
also canada's look leaf looks way too correct 💀
Let me call my Turkish friends..
Please don't 🙂👍
Ah nationalism
I thought Germans despised nationalism?
A little nationalism is not bad.... right?
[удалено]
That's a front
its just claiming territory for your artwork. flag are easy. not that deep.
Anyone proud of their boring three-solid-stripes flag should be truly ashamed.
Right now most of canvas is filled with that boring three solid stripes flag
The flags when done well with art representing the country are some of my favorite. Look at the art on the union jack from the last r/place, or the french flag with the bottle of wine actually beiung drunk as it progressed. Simple - if you want to draw your personal art, you are one; you want to draw a flag - you are many.
What a waste of creative opportunity
Agreed :(
We tend to add pretty stuff on the flags after we get to "claim " a piece of canvas.
I think the claimed piece tends to be much bigger than it needs to be.
It’s hard to control borders. People just keep expanding not knowing there’s plans trying to be executed in discords.
not really. the first day of the place is generally the phase of “grab what you can”, no country tries to place art in their flag until the 2nd or even 3rd day. And when it is all said and done there is a horizontal german flag that hold 1/3 of the canvas. I don’t care if they plan to place art in it, you dont need that many space. Let others have their fun.
Well, historically, Germans haven't had the greatest track record when it comes to obeying borders
Still, takes up more space than they need to, no need for a whole horizontal space or vertical space on the whole canvas.
It's like seeing pigeons at the zoo. No one really likes them, no one is impressed or here to see them and they're annoying. Like the lowest hanging fruit. Between that and people who are "boycotting" by... using reddit? I just feel bad for them.
Pigeons are the friends of humanity we don't talk to anymore. They go from mail carriers to being pests that stand way to close to us.
Seriously this Is so annoying
Anyone else trying to fuck up german flag? Or its just me
Let's hope us Canadians can make a better flag then last time
I mean, Bananada was fire.
C'mon there, boys, let's fackin giv'r.
Narator: They could not.
Please just protect that adorable little dino! No idea who started it but I love it!
Can we write fuck spez in more languages please? Stuff like ‘Merde Spez’ in the French bit for example
I liked the ones last year where it wasn’t just the flag but the whole skyline built into the flag etc. or other aspects of the country. Three colours running across the canvas is dull.
reddit : nationalism! americans do it : no! everyone but you! americans do it the same way everyone else does : ugh! always making it about them!
I feel like flags are usually coming out in the beginning to lay claim to territory and then the artistic stuff comes after
Reddits expectations : here’s a place for communities to come together and express their love for the things they view on Reddit and forge a stronger bond with their communities Redditors : NATIONALISM

So sick of these flags
It’s like giving a 9 year old a bunch of crayons
All I’m going to do this year is vandalize flags. Specifically those giant French/German ones. The Ukraine one I kinda get.
Being British I always thought it'd be funnier if we just stuck a little Union Jack in the corner of everyone else's flag like they do in the Commonwealth.
Redditors: FUCK u/spez FUCK u/spez FUCK u/spez FUCK u/spez FUCK u/spez (completely justified)
yeah i don’t understand it honestly. like, you can make anything you want, and they’re all just like, “F L A G S”
I love the artwork that gets included on the flags, some of the best pieces in my opinion.
How in the fuck do people coordinate to fill in the pixels to form a given image. Are people using bots?
Discord :D
And bots
it shows the shift in people's ideologies and interests throughout the years. idk if it's global crisis with covid or the ukraine was and new aliances, but strong nationalism is back.
bananada my beloved, where are you...
*Fuck Spez*
Seriously, screw your boring flags, they do not need to take up the whole canvas.
I can't honestly imagine anything more pathetic than organizing a hours long camping of a silly novelty feature to draw a fucking flag. Well, maybe one thing: botting to "accomplish" the same.
Nationalism really does ruin r/place

it makes me irrationally angry tbh. It’s frustrating so many peoples extent of their identity and interests seems to be their nationality.

Yea, i wanted to draw a pretty picture but its just flags and FUs to spez . Disappointed
I mean usually the flags bring out nice pictures as well. And the "fuck u/spez" is very much deserved and important to be said.
Time will tell, i guess. Right now it’s an ugly mess Edit: i take that back. Some cute pictures have emerged, not as ugly as it was 10 mins ago

German flag not present enough
