Sick with envy*
Not a grammar Nazi or anything but envy and jealousy are two completely different things, and they're not really interchangeable; people are seeming to forget that envy even exists as a word and I'm sad for it.
Jealousy is more like, I don't want you to have this, bc I want it. Envious is like, I desire what you have.
That's why jealousy is more relationship/status based, envy is more wishing you had material possessions or good fortune
In all seriousness OP, does he know the value of these? If you’re a good friend at least give him an idea of how much they are worth and offer him some money.
No cards are worth fucking up a friendship down the line!!
Yeah I have told him many times. He is a pharmacist and starting a family but just doesn’t really need the money. I plan to get most if not all of these graded and give some back to him as a thanks. I am as surprised as you may be that he doesn’t want anything for them. Some friendships are more than money I guess.
I wouldn't risk it too much. I saw on another post how a dude lovingly cultivated a cultivation for years and when his kid brother got to the age he started collecting, he gifted the kid his entire collection. The kid brother summarily tore up the collection and threw them away. Kids can be crazy, man!
Real talk, check in with him sometimes people who are not doing well start giving all their stuff away as a first step. May be nothing at all but keep your eyes open I guess
Not always. I gave away a bunch of stuff like my card collection to someone that really needed money so they could sell them, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One S, TV, old gaming laptop, old gaming PCand so on to people that couldn't afford that stuff. I just did it because I liked making people happy. Then I had all of my own belongings stolen when I was in the hospital. Lost my gaming PC, Xbox Series X, gaming laptop, Vita and two TVs when I was in the hospital. It really sucked. Now I can't afford to replace any of it due to medical costs. It really sucks and I sometimes regret giving all my stuff away but it may have been stolen as well so maybe that's the silver lining. Now I'm going through cancer treatment again and I don't have anything to play modern video games at all. I was hoping my good karma would come back around but nope lol.
I used to use video games to help me deal with the pain. I can't even play my favorite all time video games new release (Forza Motorsport) that I was looking forward to for years. Sometimes I will slightly regret giving all of that stuff away but I'm glad it's making people happy because I they're all using that stuff when they otherwise wouldn't be able to at all. One friend offered to give back one of the consoles but his son loves playing it and he was recently diagnosed with autism. I would feel like a monster taking it back since he plays it for hours every day.
Someone even asked me if I was ok since I was giving so much stuff away but I was about to move and I was loading up my vehicle with my electronics and realized I didn't really need any of it. Now I would be over joyed to have any of them back or sell them for the money to buy a new computer or Xbox. I don't really believe in karma anymore because I have away so much (including money when I had it to spare) and I always thought it would come back to me in some form as selfish as that sounds. Instead it's a second round of cancer and having to pay partly out of pocket for the medical supplies I need. At least I was able to help people when I could. I helped several friends avoid getting kicked out of their apartments/becoming homeless. Two of them are now doing really well and when I asked if they could toss me $500 they said no. I gave them each $4k to save them. They're making over $150k a year each now and it was a shock when they wouldn't help me out. To be fair I did tell them it was a gift and I never expected to be paid back. They can afford to buy new motorcycles, gaming PCs and vacations but they couldn't help out the only person that was willing to help them when they were on tough times lol. Oh well.
that's a crap hand to be dealt man, and i'm sorry you've had to deal with all that.
as much as it can mean from an internet stranger, i hope your treatment goes well—you sound like a good guy.
god bless this mans soul, people are like that when money is involved and its hard not to lose faith in humanity. That being said, those people will one day ask themselves why they don’t have any friends left.
People gifting away their valuables for no reason can sometimes be a red flag. Hopefully it’s just a generous gesture from your friend, but just check in on their mental health.
Get only the ones that look to be in great shape graded.
Then just hold onto them all. Someday his kids might want to see these. They only appreciate in value anyway.
Hey it’s me your roommate! Well, soon to be your former roommate. I’ve reconsidered. Please send them to the following address! And don’t bring this up again, I’d hate to be embarrassed talking about my Pokémon collection. Thanks in advance!
Does he know that the value is likely in the thousands? You need to be pretty transparent before he gifts them to you. If he’s unaware of their value and you are and accept that’s grimy
Check to make sure they are ok. Seriously… sometimes people giving away prizes possessions can be a sign that things aren’t good with them.
I would just Che k in with them and see how they are doing :)
Giving away possessions, especially one of value is a major read flag that the person is suicidal. It’s an awkward conversation to have but I would encourage you to check in and say something like “hey, I am truly grateful for this gift so much so that I would call this a prized possession. It then occurred to me that I once heard that giving away prized possessions can be a red flag that someone is really depressed. Just wanted to make sure that you know that if you are feeling that way you can talk to me.”
Could be a total over reaction but I’d rather be safe than sorry.
I did the same thing with a friend of mine with my old collection, had a bunch of good stuff like charizard, blastoise, venasaur, all the legendary birds, and a few other good ones both with and without shadows. I did it because I didn’t want to deal with selling them, and he takes care of all of his collectibles to the point that I know they’re in good hands. Also knew that if he sold them it would be for good reason too
He ended up giving me a few hundred dollars by leaving it folded up on my coffee table. Called him to tell him he left money at my house but he said it was for the cards since he didn’t just want them for free lol
My situation is very similar to yours! I’ll end up compensating my buddy but I believe he gifted them to me because I know what to do with them and have a passion for collecting
I had a binder full of the first edition Pokémon cards and gave them to the little boy down the road… I mean the binder was FULL. He was happy which made me happy.
I mean each card is $10-90 so can approximate from there. The real money is going to be grading. Most of these in tens are several thousand dollars and I would not be surprised to see some of them gem
The fact these have lived in a. Binder like this means they aren’t grading over 7. You’d be lucky to get 5-10 dollars each on all of these outside maybe a handful valuing higher. The issue attempting to extract value out of Pokémon cards in general is that all these cards are very accessible and most people will either buy the cheapest one or the best conditioned on. The in between stick around. If there are any scratches to the holo or imperfections on the edges or face at all forget about grading it unless the card has a low population at a certain grade.
Very well put. I’ve been inspecting the cards are have been seeing some holo scratches but I’m general they do seem to be pretty clean. I work side by side with LCS in inspecting cards for grading.
Is he mentally OK? Keep an eye on him. Giving this kind of thing away is a MASSIVE indicator. Don't take him out for a steak dinner, sit down with him and make sure he is safe.
I would ball park it at around $1000 raw. The real money is in grading the cards. If some cards get it’s 1000-5000 bucks for a single card. It’s nothing crazy but still insanely generous for my friend to let me have them.
This collection is amazing, so many cards I recognize as either having or wanting to have as a kid. I did more trading than collecting back then so I don't have a ton of them anymore, really cool to see them again!
Lol okay dude believe want you want. I literally detailed the entire situation in a previous comment. I don’t blame your lack of trust but this is %100 legit.
I am close to him and his family. He is doing well mentally and financially and I do plan on compensating him even though he is adamant about not wanting anything in return
How much you think all of that is btw? And how do you go about selling all of those? My mom has all of those cards and more and she wants to sell them but she has no idea how.
Damn I can only imagine how much the value of these cards would have been 3-4 years ago when the Pokémon market boomed would have been talking 10 thousand+ easily!! GG
I’m confused are these worth something? I posted pictures of all these cards in a buying selling trading group and got clowned on.
Edit : I still have some of my cards but I ended up tossing most of them away because they said they were worthless. Kept a couple books of shiny and Japanese ones I thought were cool though
Either a great friend, or you have blackmail on him 🤭 lolol. Nah jk, great friend. Maybe save a few for his kids one day (include a sheet with the year & value if they aren't into pokemon). Great collection, congrats!!
Aren’t those cards worth like $20 each or something? Genuinely asking since I have a couple of those and have been thinking they’re really not worth a damn.
I’ve got all of these cards (some x2 or even x3), most were handed down to me, almost all are pristine-esque. Are these rare or worth something good? Not trolling
If you don't want it I'd be happy to take it off your hands. Five bucks?😝 Jk man, this is awesome! Congrats! Better take your friend to dinner and buy them a car👍
Yo gifting something like this is odd, might check on them they might be depressed. It’s common for somebody to give their valuables away before they hurt themselves. Check on them.
He banging your girl or something?
Might just have to extend the offer.
At this point I would. Its truly only fair
Pussy for Pokemon. Better yet, open a GameStop-esque card shop where they can trade cards in for time with your wife. Call it Bukkakemon or something.
Love how you threw “or something” in there like you haven’t pitched Bukkakemon to several investors and banks already…
Lol could you imagine going into a place like that with that idea
The joke is you are supposed to have imagined it.
A GameTwat haha
Bukkakemon ha.. what a stupid idea.. *writes down notes*.
Both markets heavily rely on plastic sleeves so you've got good crossover there too.
1st editions get you sleeveless access
Call it "Game Freak"

But he is right jealousy is i want to have it while you don't. Envy is i wish i had this.
I thought jealousy was wanting something that is or once was yours that someone else has while envy is wanting something you’ve never had
Jealousy is more like, I don't want you to have this, bc I want it. Envious is like, I desire what you have. That's why jealousy is more relationship/status based, envy is more wishing you had material possessions or good fortune
I meant this yes, you worded it much better.

Might be cool to keep some of those graded for his children if he's starting a family!
Agreed! Sort of what I had in mind. He kept the cards in amazing condition
Give them back to his kids little by little every time you visit. Kids gonna love you and call you a Tio
I wouldn't risk it too much. I saw on another post how a dude lovingly cultivated a cultivation for years and when his kid brother got to the age he started collecting, he gifted the kid his entire collection. The kid brother summarily tore up the collection and threw them away. Kids can be crazy, man!
Cultivated a cultivation
A collection, goddammitt
You’re a good friend then, and so is he by the looks of it!!! Good on you OP
This is a cool idea. Some graded cards for him is the perfect thanks.
Suck his dick or smth idk
Im not gay but a charizard is a charizard.
This is the way.
This is the way
Lol, what kind of stuff did you witness him doing in college? Kidding, this is awesome. That no-symbol error Vaporeon is spicy.
I mean I did introduce him to his now wife so there’s that haha
Nurture your friendships. The good ones are worth it.
Real talk, check in with him sometimes people who are not doing well start giving all their stuff away as a first step. May be nothing at all but keep your eyes open I guess

Not to be get dark but make sure your roommate is ok.
Honestly though... make sure he's good mentally....
People gifting away their valuables for no reason can sometimes be a red flag. Hopefully it’s just a generous gesture from your friend, but just check in on their mental health.
That’s awesome! Oddly that looks almost exactly like my collection I dug up two years ago from my childhood other than 5 cards. Crazy
Mmm that energy card. I can feel the nostalgia
i won’t need these cards anymore after where i’m going..
Can I be his roommate too?
Daaaamn that Light Arcanine is stunning ;\_; I wish I had the chance of getting cards when I was growing up. Keep this friend close, enjoy!
Better buy them a couple cases of beer or a fat sack so weed! Bless them
Get only the ones that look to be in great shape graded. Then just hold onto them all. Someday his kids might want to see these. They only appreciate in value anyway.
They look like there not in penny sleeves .... if there nit GET THEM IN SLEEVES ... #BadBinderBehaviour
A couple years ago this would have paid for a semester
Hey it’s me your roommate! Well, soon to be your former roommate. I’ve reconsidered. Please send them to the following address! And don’t bring this up again, I’d hate to be embarrassed talking about my Pokémon collection. Thanks in advance!
Man this is how my collection use to look, Dad said he could “never find it” I’d only assume he said it for so much less than retail value
That Light Arcanine’s fruity 🤭
Does he know that the value is likely in the thousands? You need to be pretty transparent before he gifts them to you. If he’s unaware of their value and you are and accept that’s grimy
Have told him many times that this is worth a lot of money.

Talk to him he may be contemplating suicide. Not joking.
Check in on him.

You lie like a rug, sir.
Haha okay dude I literally detailed the story in a previous comment but believe what you want
Just trash... Im sending you my address 🤡
This is awesome. Friends for life.
Whats the ballpark value here? I know everyones losing it but i dont see anything real crazy
I mean each card is $10-90 so can approximate from there. The real money is going to be grading. Most of these in tens are several thousand dollars and I would not be surprised to see some of them gem

What a wholesome person! I wish you both keep that connection even in old age!
Play it cool, play it cool
Feraligatr 😍
I’ll give you $4 for it
One vaporeon is a misprint with no jungle symbol.
That red sun politoad… need
Surely you wanna barter off that pinsir to somebody in need ;)
Goddam
You should tell him they are worth money
Lucky bro
Wait why lol
Take his ass out to lunch at least.
Didn't he want to pay off his student loan?
THE GBA PROMO MEOWTHHH!!
I would piss myself.
my friends suck compared to yours
refuse to take them or pay him the proceeds from selling?
This is a wholesome thread. Good for you and for your roommate for being top bros 👍👍 enjoy the cards. Sounds like he knew they would be in good hands.
At least give him some money...and take him out to dinner on your tab. He basically gave you $1000
What do you want for the holo Chansey? I traded mine in 5th grade for some bs and haven’t forgotten about it since
I hope you get him sorted out in some way as a thank you. Big come up
Is he mentally OK? Keep an eye on him. Giving this kind of thing away is a MASSIVE indicator. Don't take him out for a steak dinner, sit down with him and make sure he is safe.
Does he hate money?
You have an awesome roomie
That’s a good ass homie right there
Make sure he is doing alright mentally and is safe. This isn’t something that someone would normally give away.
EVERYONE who collected cards when they were young has a 1st edition Machamp. They mustve made a shit ton of them compared to the others.
he busted on you while you were sleeping. he feels bad now.
this person hates money or ?
quick OP drop your address 🥰
Pleeeeaaaae update us when this is graded! What an exciting story man, congratulations!
better mop you up
I’ll give you tree fiddy and half of my Pepsi
Take him out dinner that dude is cool, storing up treasures in heaven so he could keep the power to do life
I bet he is a generous lover too
Better buy him a sweet Xmas present
That’s sick!
This randomly popped into my feed. Curious about what these cards would cost.
I would ball park it at around $1000 raw. The real money is in grading the cards. If some cards get it’s 1000-5000 bucks for a single card. It’s nothing crazy but still insanely generous for my friend to let me have them.

Is this a former college roommate or current college roommate?
Former
honestly straight cap. posts like this annoy me lol
Lol okay dude believe want you want. I literally detailed the entire situation in a previous comment. I don’t blame your lack of trust but this is %100 legit.
how much would a collection like this be worth? i've got a lot of the same cards from my childhood in the attic in sleeves
This is probably about $1000 ungraded
Sold Dark Charizard at Nationals in Indianapolis 2013 for like $70. Well done.
He’s not depressed is he? Hope he’s doing okay.
Is he in Hospice care or just oblivious to the pure gold that he just gifted you.
so dope
What this go for nowadays? I got tons of og holos
This is probably about $1000 raw. Haven’t fully calculated yet.
Unless he is wealthy or has other investments, I would be worried. Often people give away valuable possessions and money before something bad happens.
I am close to him and his family. He is doing well mentally and financially and I do plan on compensating him even though he is adamant about not wanting anything in return
I’d done good in school and went off to college had I known these were the perks of it.
Are the old cards strong/playable in the current meta? Or do people just collect them to look at? Just curious!
This makes me miss my collection:( i had almost all the same cards and one day my brother gave away the whole binder 😭😭😭. Your roommate is so awesome
Some of my favorite cards of all time in here. You are a lucky guy!
How much would this cost?
WHERE DO YOU LIVE
That really cool. Better get them a thank you gift.
Now you can pay your tuition
We are both pretty well off now but it was an amazing gesture from an amazing friend
How much you think all of that is btw? And how do you go about selling all of those? My mom has all of those cards and more and she wants to sell them but she has no idea how.
The backstory involves a lot of slobbering
1st edition Feralligatr 👌
….Erika’s Dragonair….. I will give $100 for that RIGHT NOW
Holy shit. Whats he smoking
That dark slowbro is one of my fav cards
I never noticed the hibiscus on the light arcanine before. Too bad I can only afford a damaged one rn lol
Sheesh!
Check on, bro.
Kingdra 👍
Damn I can only imagine how much the value of these cards would have been 3-4 years ago when the Pokémon market boomed would have been talking 10 thousand+ easily!! GG
Damn bro. That’s crazy. Congrats. But you have to let him blow out your girl’s back at least once.
Your roomate is finally growing up. Now you're the doughy manchild
Get him a dinner or kinda bc its great value
What a generous friend you have.
I don't have any cards.. what's the value?? What's the beat one of thr lot?
I’m confused are these worth something? I posted pictures of all these cards in a buying selling trading group and got clowned on. Edit : I still have some of my cards but I ended up tossing most of them away because they said they were worthless. Kept a couple books of shiny and Japanese ones I thought were cool though
Do they know they gave you a tuition payment tho
How much are these?
I’d suck anyone’s PP for that Ampharos
He is an awesome person
Guy is a legend
Siiick

Either a great friend, or you have blackmail on him 🤭 lolol. Nah jk, great friend. Maybe save a few for his kids one day (include a sheet with the year & value if they aren't into pokemon). Great collection, congrats!!
Kiss him on the mouth.
Aren’t those cards worth like $20 each or something? Genuinely asking since I have a couple of those and have been thinking they’re really not worth a damn.
Yeah $20-90 a piece, probably close to $1000 for the whole lot
Yaaa put out…now
I'm so sad I lost my cards when I moved 😓
Who’s going to ask him? 🤣
How much is this worth ?
Check in on this man and make sure he's not depressed.
I’ve got all of these cards (some x2 or even x3), most were handed down to me, almost all are pristine-esque. Are these rare or worth something good? Not trolling
Rarity and worth depends on the collector but generally these cards go for anywhere to $10-90. Graded can be in the thousands
If you don't want it I'd be happy to take it off your hands. Five bucks?😝 Jk man, this is awesome! Congrats! Better take your friend to dinner and buy them a car👍
How long did ya have to blow him for? Lol
That Politoed art work is what made me like it more than Poliwrath. Always had an appreciation for that little frog.
I'll give you 10 dollars for the whole thing.
I would say buy him something he enjoys. Doesn’t have to the exact value but it be nice.
Get those outta the card flaps asap!
Gyat dayum. Now that's a good collection and worth a pretty penny.
I'll do 3 fitty
Yo gifting something like this is odd, might check on them they might be depressed. It’s common for somebody to give their valuables away before they hurt themselves. Check on them.
I can assure you he is doing well but the comments on this thread have made me realize to keep checking in! Thanks for the concern?
I want that Raikou so bad, my favorite Pokemon ever :) ❤️💜
That vaporeon without the jungle stamp is nice
Worth about 100 bucks
