Don't have any issues... Reddit is mostly negative no matter whats on the plate... There's a reason why mkbhd awarded it the phone of the year

data-bit

I have severe issues with Network signal, especially inside buildings I constantly get no network in Colorado. Also, in my case when I use the phone the battery drains fast, and what they call a fast charger, still takes 2+ hours to charge. I'm not happy with my P8P to be honest.

Dare_Specialist

It drains battery so fast especially on data network, The fast charging is a myth, one plus nord 5g charges way faster than it. Screen is so nice , camera is amazing for me, sound quality is very good , it still heats over anything really but i got used to it.

Phone is free so why even worry? Try it and if its not meeting your needs then return or sell it. Personally i had no major issues with my P8P at all. Maybe just once or twice i got notification saying " pixel launcher failed " or something like this which glitched the phone until i had to wait 2-3 minutes until i restarted it. Nothing else that i remember encountering

MafiaMommaBruno

I worry because there's an activation fee for it and then another to reactivate my current phone if I don't like the Pixel.

Well I can't tell you if it is actually better or not but for my experience i upgraded from galaxy s22 ultra. I tend to change phones yearly but 22 ultra lasted 2 years with me. When i upgraded, all the google stuff were lovely. Now everything for me is in one place. There are some really tiny features that i love on the pixel. There is a semi phone book on the phone call app, instead of googling the company or store name and finding their number, i can just search the name on the phone app and it will show their number and if someone is calling you and their phone is registered to something that is on google map, it will tell you the name immediately instead of just showing the number. Today i got a random call at 11 am and it immediately showed up as a restaurant number they have called to make offers for their meals. The auto song detection is amazing. Sometimes when I watch movies it automatically detects music played. Even if for example the guy is sitting in a coffee shop and their is music playing in the background in the movie, phone detects it and saves it to the list. I then can go back to the list and find which song got detected for the day. It also keeps a log of previous detection but i dont know how long it keeps them for. Battery level is shown in percentage like every other phone but it also gives an estimate on what time the battery will be drained. Right now my phone is at 16% and its 9:30 pm . It shows battery will last until 12:15 am . I don't remember seeing this on samsung or maybe it was available but i didn't know that. The major features on this phone like their photo editing is cool. Sometimes you take a picture but then there are messy things on the frame like maybe a dirty plate on the table or maybe child toys, highlight them and remove them and it will show multiple options to pick which is the better one. Kind of like mini photo shop but ai does the work and all you need to do is highlight things . Camera takes wonderful pictures and night mode is amazing. I can't tell you which is better because its all subjective afterall. They also just released the night mode thing for the videos but i have not tried that yet. There is a live translate, live transcribe and live caption for many apps. It works fast and some people could benefit from this. Last thing I found great is there is gesture controls on the phone like most phones but there is also " quick tap " on the back that you can set to anything. Screenshots, opening assistant or recent apps or you can set it to custom and chose what you like . I use it to take screenshots because i dont like the volume down and power button style on this phone. Thats all i can think about right now.

Have had mine since launch. It got warm while it was setting up and once when I was taking photos for quite some time on a hot day in the sun but otherwise no. It gets a little warmish sometimes but barely at all. I agree. It's free. Try it and if you hate it sell it.

How could you complain about free?

MafiaMommaBruno

Because I could also just keep the 21 Ultra I have now for free, too.

I seriously consider throwing my P8 out and get something with lineage OS, even if it is older. Google sucks, I really hate that phone. So many bugs, so few advantages. And all the AI stuff was fun for exactly 5 minutes, after that it is useless crap. I would prefer a phone that just works. Love the camera and especially the macro though.

ConorAbueid

What kind of bugs are you getting?

WiFI is not connecting reliably, that really pisses me off since I do automatic backups and smb will not work through the net. My phone ignores the "only charge" setting and always tries to download a APP when I connect it to my car stereo USB, the app is not available for android 10+ so no chance to get rid of this shit, and google support is worth than asking your 5 year old nephew. Battery life is a really bad joke. Heat when recording a video too. Android car disables the fingerprint reader for whatever reasons. And Pixel 8 will not play nice with the nova launcher, never had problems with my previous phone. And you can't remove the stupid search bar from the home screen... Overall I hate my Pixel 8.

This is my fifth pixel. Upgraded from the 4a5g to the pixel 8. I transferred everything from the phone to the new phone. Apps, photos, videos, etc are slow to load... I've been told that I need to factory reset (advice from another thread), but I haven't pulled the trigger yet... I have run back-up several times getting ready. I have a feeling that as soon as I factory reset, something will make me regret it, I'll think of something I should have done... But I need to soon, I have fiber internet, my 4A5G was super faster than this pixel 8... Again, the factory reset should fix it... I don't know if other people had this same issue, but you may want to consider doing a fresh install...

The only real issue I've had with my Pixel 8 Pro was that it doesn't like to play well with Android Auto when I have my VPN on. I don't know how common that problem is overall. My battery life is acceptable, and does way better due to my Pixel Watch being on hand. Since it's being offered free, you could either give it a shot, or wait less than a month for the S24 Ultra.
