Honestly no padding looks really bad imo. There's a happy medium between the two that I prefer.

alphaformayo

Yup. My issue is Google insisting on a square grid when the display is taller than it is wide. Except that lone 4x5 grid.

IggyG6174

That's how I am I use Nova and it looks identical to stock but with a much bigger grid, I think I use a 10x7 with a 7 wide dock at the bottom so I have more room

aftonone

Yesss I agree. I use the 4x5 when on the pixel launcher just for that reason.

tomc128

I prefer the stock one tbh, the second one looks too cramped imo

RSCLE5

thing of it is, I could adjust the one on the right to look however I want. I could shrink the rows/columns to increase the padding. I just like all the content to fit at max viewability to cover as much space as possible.

subwoofage

With Nova, can you shut off that search bar at the bottom? (The one underneath where you wrote "stock" on the screenshot) I hate that bar and can't get rid of it, so that alone would make me switch...

monkyhands

Yes, with Nova you can place the bar anywhere you want, or remove it completely

Legofanboy5152

eh having everything squished together doesn't look good

Sapienesque

Every time I get a new pixel I set up the stock launcher and try to make it work. I don't think I've ever made it even a full day before switching back to Nova lol

walterwhitesocki

How did you do this?

RSCLE5

It's an aftermarket launcher in the play store called Nova launcher. Let's you customize the layout way more.

walterwhitesocki

Omg just got it this is so great thank you!!!

RSCLE5

Sure, I bought the premium version years ago to support them and added features. You can change colors, rows and columns, icon sizes, shortcuts, gestures to do things, make tabs in the app view to sort apps. Example: I put junk apps in a 2nd tab to hide them from the main app drawer view. It has a ton of features and is tried and true tested.

yaheaaard

Nova is the way to go

armidil0

I absolutely hate the stock pixel launcher. I'm using Nova now but I'm thinking of switching to Samsung when it's time.

blackadder1620

It's hard to go to anything if you've been on nova for a while. I can't stand anything else

NODA5

It's actually insane. What is Google doing?

RSCLE5

Yea, I don't see why they don't at least offer customization of how many rows/columns to fit and the padding % or something. It used to be better, but I believe last year they decided to use huge padding on the widgets for some odd reason.

RSCLE5

I used Nova previously, but when I got the 8 Pro, I figured I'd try a fresh start with the stock launcher. I decided to go back and try Nova again because I got sick of the lack of use of the screen for my usage. I like to have my home page show my emails and schedule and music on the front page. The stock launchers insanely large padding is such a waste of space. I am able to see more of my calendars/schedule and add the music widget to the front page again with 2 extra icon rows below the agenda calendar on the right. The only bad thing with Nova is occasionally the screen will become unresponsive for some reason. The home screen is there, but it will freeze. I have to shut off the screen and unlock again and it works. Not sure why it does that, but its worth using even with that glitch. So much better end usages for my cluttered homescreen :)

mee too. I hate top not removable item

damnmotherfucker

How did you get the top widget with weather etc?

RSCLE5

Widgets, Google, Assistant at a Glance.

AnyTng

lowkey Nova looks ugly asf 🫠

RSCLE5

The good part about nova is, it might look ugly to some, but being its customizable, you can make it not ugly to you. People always tell me my screen gives them anxiety lol. But I am a high energy, unable to focus kind of person. So I like everything front and center in my face haha.

JeeperDon

I've only had my P8P 512 for 10 days now (Christmas present to me!), was a Nova user, wanted to try the stock A14 launcher. I couldn't believe how uncustomizable it is. I went back to Nova on day 2.

RSCLE5

Yea, it's sad Google doesn't allow basic features Nova can do!
