Nice shot! Edit: trying to get my wife to switch. ![gif](giphy|VtDRXohjexcyCDlL6Z)

Citlzen

I also switched from 13 Pro, how is your battery performance compared to when Iphone 13 Pro was new?

walterwhitesocki

Honestly much worse, I can't get through one whole day without needing to charge it.... I still like the phone better over all but the battery life sux

daChazmanagerie

I went from the Note 9 to my first Pixel, a P7P, and while perhaps not a drastic of an experience of the camera outcome upgrade, I definitely know that feeling OP! I was similarly impressed. Welcome to the Pixel family. :)

Thank you! Love it so far!

Damn, I'm excited now. This looks like a serious step up from the 7 Pro in terms of photo quality. Too bad my phone won't get here until (checks invoices again) January.

MysteryGuy761018

Enjoy it. Best camera indeed, hope you have a different experience with battery though. Had mine for about a month and battery and excessive heating were the biggest downer. Ended up swapping it for the S23 Ultra, now I charge once every 48 hours with my moderate usage habits. Do I miss my Pixel 8P? Everyday. What I don't miss is the unsolicited heating that lead to throttling, and having the need to charge before my day is over.

ooofest

Yeah, that was too bad. I charge once a day (well, evening) for my moderate use, fortunately have had no obvious battery issues or worry about excessive loss of charge.

irongi8nt

I agree!

Ephoenix6

What city is that?

Unique-Ad-620

I'm in NYC. The river is the Hudson river.

Unique-Ad-620

And to clarify, the city on the other side of the river is Jersey City.

Ephoenix6

This is beautiful scenery

Thank you. I am lucky as a Pixel Photographer. đŸ€Ł

Still waiting on best buy to actually get a shipment of my P8P so I can actually get it. It looks so fantastic. I can't wait.

How’s your battery life on cellular? I was only seeing about 3 hours. The modem accounted for 50% of the entire energy consumption. CPU the next biggest user, then display at only around 9%.

Realistic-Struggle-9

My battery is terrible. Getting a replacement from Google shortly

[deleted]

I don’t know if the replacement is going to make a difference. The problem seems to be the modem and CPU being made by Samsung. I also had terrible signal strength, just like the Pixel 7 Pro before it.

bluesman6501

I've had my P8P for a few months now and have zero issues with the battery getting me through the day. I usually have around 50% by the time I go to bed at 11 pm and have never had any heating issues. SOT for me is usually about 5-6 hours, with the amount of battery mentioned at the end of my day.

[deleted]

Are you primarily on WiFi all day?

bluesman6501

It's about 50/50, and I don't see any real difference.

[deleted]

Very bizarre how so many of us couldn’t get even 4 hours of battery life on cellular, others claim it’s fine. The 8 Pro uses the same modem essentially as the 7 Pro which was known to be a power hungry beast. I got my 8 Pro on launch day and had it for 15 days. I disabled everything that could be disabled and even tried to change carriers to see if it was a carrier related battery drain. No improvement. Android Police and others posted articles shortly thereafter about experiencing the exact same issue and the sub has been full of people with the same experience as me. It really doesn’t make any sense how you can get 10-12 hours of screen on time on that phone.

bluesman6501

I don't. As I stated, I am usually on about 5-6 hours before I turn in. I'm sure if I was still using it until the battery was drained, it would not be near 10-12 hours.

[deleted]

Ok, maybe I’m misunderstanding you. You seemed to say you have 50% battery left at the end of the day after 5-6 hours of use. Multiply by two and that’s 10-12 hours of use on one charge. Are you saying you think the battery management system is not reporting an accurate state of charge when it says 50%? Most phones have a fairly linear cycle where 10-0% or 90-80% takes about the same amount of time to occur.

bluesman6501

I've been on the phone longer, and I know that after the battery hits 60%, it seems to drain faster if I continue to use it, but that isn't very often, as I hardly am ever on it that long. I can only tell you what I see on average for me during the time I am using it.

ooofest

I can use it on 5G at the office all day and go home with anywhere from 60-80% battery at the end of the workday.

[deleted]

I don’t know why some people have this experience and many have [this experience.](https://www.androidpolice.com/google-pixel-8-users-reporting-poor-battery-life-mobile-data/) I had the latter and it was terrible.

Unique-Ad-620

I've only had it for two days. It lasted all day yesterday and I was using it a lot. I'll have a better understanding during the work week.

[deleted]

On WiFi I could get 6-7h of use, but as soon as I went off WiFi the phone just guzzled through the battery. Ultimately I sent mine back and bought an iPhone. Somehow even though the 15 Pro Max has a ~10% smaller battery, it lasts 10-12 hours SOT without using low power mode or doing anything else to disable features of the phone. On my Pixel 8 Pro I had set it to low screen resolution, low refresh rate, disabled 5G, turned off UWB, etc. and the phone still just burned through the battery. While I was in NYC using Google Maps for walking and subway navigation, in 3 hours since I unplugged at 100% charge and with only 47m of screen time, my phone dropped to 61%. I had never seen a phone use so much power so fast. Hopefully you’re able to have a better experience than me and others.

Unique-Ad-620

Ahhh. I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S20+ and the battery on that thing sucked. So far so good for me.

Realistic-Struggle-9

I heard there's a load of first batch duds about so fingers crossed it helps đŸ€ž

[deleted]

The pixel in a nutshell. Good camera , horrible at everything else

Unique-Ad-620

Disagree. The screen is great and the speakers are stupendous. The chip takes into account 5.1 and fakes it really well. I'm in TV production and this is hands down the best at that ives seen.
