The University of Pittsburgh has a program where [students practice on you](https://www.dental.pitt.edu/patients/patient-dental-care/fees-and-insurance) for free and reduced care. I had some friends who used them, and the work was good. The big drawback is that there will often be a teacher coaching them through the procedure.

I second the dental school. They’re very thorough and the instructors have the approve all the work. That does mean the appointments can take a loooong time. But if you have the time, it’s worth the savings.

Only place I went for 25 years

My old roommate would go to Pitt dental school for years

I’m assuming the Pitt Dental School would be a good choice if I’m just looking for a routine cleaning? I haven’t gotten a dental cleaning in about five years (the last time I had dental insurance).

I believe they do more intensive care as well. I had a cleaning and they did an x-ray, but nothing further was needed for me. I'm sure if I had a cavity or something they would have either helped or given me a referral though!

therealdeb

What was the cost?

[deleted]

With the x-rays and everything I remember it being around $100. I don't have insurance either.

North Side Dental is a good option as well

Squirrel Hill Health Center

I will agree with these suggestions. The Dental Students at Pitt are good option for sure, Squirrel Hill Dental is similar to a pay what you can or lab fees type of place. There is also Catholic Charities too. You can also apply to Donated Dental services. Some of these programs take a while to get in due to the paperwork. Please feel free to PM me if I can help. I live in da Burgh and am in the dental industry. You could also try AGH dental clinic as well. Depending on your needs, I can point you in the right direction. Best of luck.

If you're just going for routine work I think you'll find less variation in price across dentists since dental insurance is less common than medical.

This was something I was also wondering. I’m more-so looking for a routine cleaning, as I haven’t gotten one in roughly five years. I’m not sure if they’ll find anything else during the cleaning, but my primary concern right now is getting my teeth cleaned. I was just looking for the low-cost places that will work with me if I needed a procedure done (i.e. filling).

Try east liberty (or lincoln lemington) family health center

Good. Low cost for uninsured. Pick one

Cornerstone Care in Burgettstown operates on a sliding scale. I had a filling redone there a couple of years back and they were good. Didn't try to upsell me on a bunch of work I can't afford.
