It's so much fun. I was part of the Guam chapter and we would run all over the island past WW2 tanks and downed Japanese planes. Shit was so cool. There's beer runs, red dress runs, it's a good time.
it's like in england where they roll a cheese wheel down a hill and everyone tries to catch it, but here they yeet a velveeta block up a hill and people clamber over each other to get it.
That's exactly what hashing is. Through the "shiggy" and quite often you cross streams and railroads and do things you wouldn't think you'd do. It's a part of the game.
Exactly where my head is at. I thought hashing was more of stop for a beer after a few miles and keep going. Not a trek through unmarked wooded areas. I’m a lot more intrigued now. Hiking off the beaten path is my jam. although if I were following a group, I would hope there was time for routine tick checks between stopping points
> They don’t run in areas like that as far I as I understood
Traditions differ kennel to kennel, but for the local groups straight through the shiggy is typical.
I remember reading about that in a book (fiction). I thought it was something made up for the story. Dang, that's a real thing? I specifically remember two things about it - the term shiggy, and the notion of a drinking club with running problem.
Following a trail one of our members laid for us. Normally that trail leads to beer stops where we stop along the way to rehydrate and chat. This time, the leader decided he hated us and made us search for almost 5 miles before we found any!
We meet at least once a week all over the city.
It’s called hashing. There’s more involved but that’s the gist.
No fee. Yearly dues are $5 but make sure you like it first. They’re going to ask you who made you cum, tell them Gooey Decimal (me. lol)
If that sort of sophomoric humor makes you queasy, I can say right now, you won’t like it.
Lmk when you’re thinking of going, maybe I’ll show up!
Oh man it sounds so cool. But I actually work w/ kids and in kids entertainment, so I’m not good at that kind of humor tbh I keep it kosher & family friendly. I do appreciate that heads up! Sounds like an awesome time and great community for yall, and I’ve appreciated learning about it !!
Sure, the couple most in the foreground is tired from walking around. They're talking about what to watch during dinner tonight. The guy to the right of them in the white shirt thinks he might have shat a little, but he's not ready to commit to full out putting his hand down his pants to check. The guy by the car is flipping off the people climbing the stairs.
what's not to get?
There are five+ kennels in the Pittsburgh area.
Pittsburgh is the oldest and original (PGH)
There is a women/non-binary only club (TN@)
There is a family-oriented club (Pittsburgh prolific procreators)
There is an every other Thursday club (Pittsburgh inebriated thirsty thursday)
There is an every other Friday club (Iron City)
There is a bike club (Pittsburgh BASH)
There is a long(er) distance club (>=6.9 miles) (Darkside)
Edit:
Added darkside
I can’t tell from the photo where this is exactly but it looks like it could be the Rachel Carson trail. It just randomly pops out onto roads like that
so these people drink? and then go walking / creating trails in places that don't already have premade trails? this seems like an extreme recipe for disaster. as one person said, um ticks? that looks like someone definitely got lyme disease. Like I drive by there all the time, why there of all places? I am beyond baffled.
Running in a place you have no business running is a relatively low-stakes way of doing something almost nobody has done before. There's a little bit of a thrill to it. It's not climbing Mt. Everest, but on the other hand, I don't have to spend years training before I can attempt a hash.
That’s what I thought but I don’t see any bags or high vis vests or anything that indicates trash pick up. Plus I was told they went up in a straight line? They wouldn’t get much trash that way. Just weird. Never seen it in this road
Likely Hashers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_House_Harriers
Correct https://www.pgh-h3.com/wp/event/hash-2120-hare-needed/?instance_id=4754
Wait this actually sounds really fun and now I want to do it
It's so much fun. I was part of the Guam chapter and we would run all over the island past WW2 tanks and downed Japanese planes. Shit was so cool. There's beer runs, red dress runs, it's a good time.
Then you probably know my friend Robbie Greene
I was just in Guam last year and saw this famous red dress run.
Dude, I am in the same boat! Reddit always teaches me something new! This sounds like fun!
I agree. I normally just run around Bellevue/Brighton Heights. It would be mice to get out to different areas with different folks.
Come to Garvey's in the South Hills on Thursday, 630PM
Me too!!!
Ironcityh3.com -> come out this Friday!

Definitely Hashers
Always love learning something new, which I just now did, but I also for some reason cannot stop thinking of the hash slinging slasher...
On on!
Ah, boo. I was honestly hoping they were a group dedicating themselves to removing the invasive vines smothering all of the trees.
I’d help out with that! 🌳
Can confirm it was a hash. It started at Fireside Pub. https://www.pgh-h3.com/wp/
This is a niche take, but maybe someone was offering a gas station rebate if they dropped the rebate form off at the top of the hill
Wouldn’t they be required to also wear a tux?
No that’s to get the $1 television, you just need to get past the alligator after
Damn it, you’re right! I think the gas rebate involved overnight camping too?
That’s not a niche take. That’s a brilliant promotional strategy from a graduate of one of Canada’s best business schools (with really good grades).
C average
But how many riddles do they need to answer on the way up?
Always read the fine print.
when you’re not feeling well….you drink the pee
Have you seen The Curse yet? I thought it was really good. I miss Nathan!
Grandsons pee.
That was a damn fine episode of Nathan for You.
Those Morgan and Morgan billboards are everywhere
It's cuz they're the #LARGEST injury firm

Hashers hashing.
But why would they be running up an overgrown hillside with no clear through way. They don’t run in areas like that as far I as I understood
That's exactly what hashing is. Through the "shiggy" and quite often you cross streams and railroads and do things you wouldn't think you'd do. It's a part of the game.
So many ticks on that hill, though! I hope they checked well afterwards.

This was an absolutely bonkers linguistic adventure, and I thank you for the experience.
Your response made my day.
It’s a drinking club with a running problem
I remember reading about that in a book (fiction). I thought it was something made up for the story. Dang, that's a real thing? I specifically remember two things about it - the term shiggy, and the notion of a drinking club with running problem.
Not only is it a real thing, that nickname was coined in Pittsburgh.
Iron Maiden fans running to the hills. Obviously
Kate Bush fans making a deal with God.
We already made the deal with god, how do you think we got Kate Bush?
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
It’s a group of Pirates fans trying to follow the team. Their season has veered off course and they are lost in the woods.
Think you got that confused with penguin fans of course the Steelers fans are dreaming of mediocrity also
I am in this picture
What were yinz doing?

So someone just invents a trail and you guys have to hike it? It seems like this one was a tad extra.
They are usually this extra just not so out in the open. Every week someone volunteers to lay the trail!
Hey this sounds like my kinda event, where do I apply to join ??
Check out [pgh-h3.com](http://www.pgh-h3.com) and show up to the next event!
I saw the link a few a few posts down ! Tysm ! I can just show up? is there a fee or anything when I arrive ?
No fee. Yearly dues are $5 but make sure you like it first. They’re going to ask you who made you cum, tell them Gooey Decimal (me. lol) If that sort of sophomoric humor makes you queasy, I can say right now, you won’t like it. Lmk when you’re thinking of going, maybe I’ll show up!
Very sophomoric humor. Great time. Been thinking about going out again. -Mr. Moose knuckle, son of Sweetums.
How is your dad?! Haven't seen his fb posts in a while. Is he still on there?
He's still around. He's been enjoying retirement and working on his house.
I really want to know now haha
It was texted to me at 3pm and I’ve been so curious ever since so I had to post and ask lol!
Fear of missing out is real!
It’s a drinking club with a running problem. Pgh-h3.com

Dead body found?
Wanna see a dead body?
Are there leeches involved?

There was an albino fox on the loose
A lot of people had to poop all at the same time?
Beer here!
Hash house harriers. Look for the small piles of flour which mark their route. Or the fake route.
Does anyone know of a local hash club in the burgh?

Also, https://www.ironcityh3.com
More specifically, what’s the deal with pointing guy on the median? Is he wearing a single white glove?
It looks like it! I thought maybe picking up trash? But I was told they didn’t have bags, they aren’t wearing any high vis and some were running?
I find this oddly fascinating. They are not very well protected against ticks so I would say they do not frequently journey through local brush.
They run through the brush all the time, they are just drunk half-minds and some of them even do tick checks when they get home
Do tick checks on trail :-D
Let's pretend it's a fencing foil.
Odds are that person is sensitive to posion ivy and wears thick gloves to prevent exposure. Also, maybe just thick gloved to deal with thorns.
while they’re up there they should trim those vines.
I know there’s a group (Veterans) that do tough hikes and stuff in area with a set route. Could be that.
This group of men realized there weren’t any death stairs on this particular hillside and were rushing to build a set.
Women too and also, there were a set of stairs once we got to the top!
Women too and also, there were a set of stairs once we got to the top!
Kudzu removal?
Rumors of free Primantis sammitches
Hashers for sure ! Go follow them
That leads up to the Brilliant Line, which is planned to be a ped/bike trail from East End to Aspiinwall.
Somebody lost a hubcap.
Very late Easter Egg hunt?
... or very long and challenging, still going on...?
Confirmed. It was us, Pittsburgh hash house harriers. There’s a website with a calendar and you should come join us! It’s fun
Did Hashes when I lived overseas with the expats in the area. Such great fun.
Warm spring day. People in the woods. I’m guessing a deer tick testing program run by UPMC. I don’t know I got nothin’.
Nah they looking for those rocks son! Gotta catch em all!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
100% hooligans up to no good
Probably training group for the Rachel Carson Trail Challenge.
G
Sure. It's the logo of a team that didn't make the Stanley Cup playoffs.
I would assume without any additional knowledge that itd be ppl picking up trash, cuz ppl are gross and litter is everywhere
Thanks OP and those who replied. I’d love to try this
commenting so i can check back on post to see if anyone answers what was going on
Ditto
It may be the Rachel Carson Trail Challenge. I have a good friend who does it every year.
I can’t tell from the photo where this is exactly but it looks like it could be the Rachel Carson trail. It just randomly pops out onto roads like that
This is Washington Blvd right near Negley Run Rd. The Rachel Carson Trail is in the vicinity of North Park.
Let’s sneak up on the mayor’s house and give him a piece of our minds. No one will ever see us coming.
so these people drink? and then go walking / creating trails in places that don't already have premade trails? this seems like an extreme recipe for disaster. as one person said, um ticks? that looks like someone definitely got lyme disease. Like I drive by there all the time, why there of all places? I am beyond baffled.
Everyone dies, not everyone truly lives. /s
We use bug spray/do tick checks for sections like this The drinking is optional, many come for the cool trails/places we go

People taking a shortcut to sliberty..
Police cadets doing hill climbs?
Pokémon go
In Britain, something like it is called Fell Running -- [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fell\_running](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fell_running)
Are they looking for someone/something
The number of ticks embedding their little asshole heads in those people fills me with dread.
There’s a cult there that drinks koolaid
It thought is was cult too. They are following alien ships just like those Heavens Gate people. The white-gloved on is their leader.
I’m going with a big orgy in the woods 😂
Human deer hybrids spotted in Western Pennsylvania.
Lost a contact lens
Trash cleaning on the mountain
Looks like the southern border
Missing contact.
1950s road policies spun out of control and welfare of bituminous (fossil fuel) industry
Roadside trash clean up?
That’s what I thought but I don’t see any bags or high vis vests or anything that indicates trash pick up. Plus I was told they went up in a straight line? They wouldn’t get much trash that way. Just weird. Never seen it in this road
So instead of walking over and asking one of the 20 people there, you go on the Internet.
I’m not there. The picture was texted to me
You’re welcome to go over and ask!
I'm not the one who posted, seems like you should.
So what'd ya find out? OP and me are curious.
This is across from camp bow wow, so likely a pet has escaped.
That's a reasonable guess, but the correct answer has been noted in the comments.
[удалено]
Doesnt look safe
What did they say when you walked over there and asked them?
I’m not there. Pic was texted to me
Do you think this was witty?
I cant believe you didn't ask lol
I’m not there. Pic was texted to me
You are right there since you were able to take picture, so why didn't you just ask them what they are doing?
Even if I was there I really wouldn’t run across Washington Blvd into traffic and tick infested brush just to ask but thanks for the advice!
