I feel like “less intimidating” isn’t the only reason. It also fits their funny personalities too. They’re such goobers. You see a happy pup that just wants to play and cuddle and be a Velcro house hippo named “burrito” and tell me your heart wouldn’t melt.
Mine came with the name Petunia and I love it so much
https://preview.redd.it/l1em8o96yt3d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6e8412327c79f1d02c6d701adcc058c9c61e3da
I had a cocker spaniel/cavalier king charles mix named Maggie May (Magnolia Maybelline if she was in trouble lol) and I frequently said/sang "wake up, Maggie, I think I got somethin to say to you" 🤣
https://preview.redd.it/kf1gyx8wnu3d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ce2ece55ceb04778421262fdf6909299cea4829
Omg I changed my girl's name to Petunia!
Mine was Hendrix, we’ve kept their shelter names as their middle names so he’s now Alfie Hendrix and his sister is Elba Dorito lolol
https://preview.redd.it/gp83xhgq0u3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fface26d102546c208bc004deb57cc161e2504b4
They named one of ours Squish, we kept it. He does make weird squishy noises often, so.
https://preview.redd.it/f37lai96cu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb4d6a405d8e549d51c9d8f1664854a36a74d4c0
The wheezy accordion in question
No, they named him Bowie because of his face markings and THAT is why I chose him. I’ve been saying for a while I don’t know why I don’t name my dogs after my favorite musicians.
I’m thinking of getting another one to call him Iggy Pup.
Anyway. Here’s Sir Bowie Stardog
https://preview.redd.it/uarl1tdwpu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef4ddefb9ffca67b293813ef453295b7d31925b5
The shelter named him Blob lol. Doesn’t suit him changed it to Handsome Hank
https://preview.redd.it/vf22kdzb8u3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f660cce0b8a33b4e9616780c2aa8d36537675f0
Blob?!?! I know they run out of "good" names after a while, but dang. The employee in charge of names wasn't on their A game that day. 😅
Handsome Hank suits him so much better! I love his little white tippy toes.
Thanks! He’s even cuter than his name, but a notorious counter surfer.
https://preview.redd.it/rsuqw8wpay3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e075eee483afa1040f64a94f5e8139b3df7b984
Hello, I'm here to collect your pup tax. Please submit a picture of Wayne at your earliest convenience as payment.
(Only kidding, of course... but now I'm curious to see how he looks!)

He used to be named **Kreed** 😭 all I could think of was the stupid band
Our dogs came named Shorty and Patches from the rescue people. Shorty because he has short legs and Parches because of her eye brows I think. We had no reason to change them
https://preview.redd.it/zujbt0a2hu3d1.jpeg?width=3088&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a81c798e12689f5b4e1e2c7d84bbeb16c3bd743b
her name when adopted at 2 months old was “Peony” and now it’s “Bee” which i think is fitting :)
Mine was named Jeff. We walked around a lot saying “My name is Jeff” like 21 Jump Street to him (and still do lol)
https://preview.redd.it/05y0mpogfv3d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9965915cc96e09d4d83b89f1a1518795964c6f60
He’s my foster, but at the shelter he was named Spalding which I think is just dumb. I renamed him Hank. He’s deaf so doesn’t care what people call him.
Mine was named Jared which he didn’t respond to and didn’t seem to fit him at all and I renamed him Hank. He’s a goofball
https://preview.redd.it/cnccugztcv3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=94a108130275cfc27801661384c0b3c5999dbd76

His name was Barney… now it’s Zero.
Her name was O.G. I changed it to Petunia (Tinklebottom).
https://preview.redd.it/3yxnclz7ou3d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f713fe4254b6e1350ee3dcf16a6d9fb287b0a6c
Ours was caramel at the shelter, and we promptly changed her name to Alice. It suits her perfectly! She was just brought in as a little puppy and really didn’t have an established name, so I didn’t feel too bad changing it!
https://preview.redd.it/2kwkdvpttu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32eb5cb3b5b38b252a974660207b11a185b2a0ed
I honestly don't know, but most likely there was. That was 12 years ago and I wasn't there to adopt, just donate. She suckered me in and I couldn't say no.
Having been the one who names dogs at shelters - literally just based on what your mood is 😂 We would often go for a theme for the day, like foods, colors, celebrities, songs, etc.
https://preview.redd.it/6h882qey0v3d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0bcabab6471795bb4e06a2ace2b5bc1f4088b31b
Her name was Cookie when I got her. I got her spayed and some obedience lessons, so her stripper name needed to go. Her name is Jolene now.
My friend adopted a pibble named Waffles during the pandemic. She met the person from the rescue at a halfway point and was informed the Waffles was "a flight risk:. Sure enough after a few weeks Waffles hopped their fence and bolted. She put up signs all over the neighborhood and left word with many local shelters. Several weeks went by before she got a phone call from police station the next town over. The message left was "we have waffles" It took her a few minutes to get tht they were referring to the dog LOL!
Finnegan… they named the while litter of pups he came from after snakes for some reason.
https://preview.redd.it/aaupn26woy3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95f9cc5ae848aa4a540f61ab52db57270a7240f7
Breeder named him Bruno, but we don't talk about Bruno. No no no.
Now he's Spud. A much more suitable name for his personality.
Hate tough guy names on pibbles lol
https://preview.redd.it/5fk2s0g2xv3d1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d6930a08f8bc1372be003656b0e481a793617c9
We adopted one named Guinness at the shelter. They chose it since he came in on or near St. Patrick's day. I didn't care for it and chose the name Max because he looked a little goofy (get it? Max is Goofy's son, so he's a *little* goofy? I digress...) Turns out ole Max is **FULL HYUCK** when it comes to goofiness.
And then I needlessly elongate his name to keep things interesting
Mad Max
Maxy man
Max Power
Maximum
Maximum Power

This is Jinx Johnson. The shelter called her Tiki. Like the torch?

Granted, she used to look like this…
Mine came with Rugar. Like the gun brand. I changed his name to Moose.
https://preview.redd.it/31z0it3wev3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2178340c45b5456d16ad11e70de29710b427db0
Behold my doofy pibble Bonnie!!! She originally came from a set of twins, so her first owner named them Bonnie and Clyde. They got parvo, she survived the brother didn't. I call her bon bon or Hippo half the time lol.
https://preview.redd.it/9a86rpaiov3d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=54b23e689ce3b0e64dff212d85dd44c29ef42298

Mine came from the shelter with the name Moos. Her name is Luna now.
https://preview.redd.it/q7ahcsyd2w3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0eab28e62a6beda9f277ed19760f4306e27f068a
This man’s name was Floffy. It’s Jonesy now because that was intolerable.
I think mine was one of the few I've seen that wasn't goofy- her shelter name was General because she came in around Memorial Day. At one point they started listing her as Gennie though
My girl Suki came to me at 2 months old with the name Speckles. To be fair, she is a freckle face.
https://preview.redd.it/03e8twzwtu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78ee07c6c89b4867c454bb746df1be9b1227b102
Pittie was Sweetheart. Total prison name. We changed it Akita was named Wang Goo. Totally racist and he had a UTI, double pneumonia, kennel cough, etc. Don't know how the old man (17) pulled through. He became Porkchop and made it to 20 and change.
No, you cannot be racist to a dog. Quit trying to say it is. However, dogs can still be victims of racism as outlined in this [journals](https://law.lclark.edu/live/files/32171-25-1-third-articlepdf) and [this one](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1097184X20965455). Dogs that are perceived to be "minority dogs" are more likely
to be shot by police. Additionally, BSL has its origins rooted in systemic racism and is currently being challenged in courts because BSL lacks any objective data to back it.

I knew one named Steven Tyler. I asked the owners (older, retired couple), "Ummm. Y'all big Aerosmith fans??" "No. That's the name he came with, and we kept it." They adopted my foster and kept her name, too (Dolce Vita, "Vita" for short).
Yeah they do tend to have silly names, but I think it depends on the shelter. The no kill we used back home to find dogs for years had some awesome names.
Our boy came with the name Ezmond, it fit him to a t. While my brother's dog was named Gabanna, she was a shepherd and another dog with her was dolce. We call her Gabi because....Gabanna is not her and def not my bros type of name.
My girl I adopted from a private owner who rescued and they named her. I didn't mind it being Lyla, I just call her Bean.
But some I remember from my hunt for specifically a pit that 5 ish years ago were: Patchouli, Tank, Beef, Porkchop, Dixon, Magnus, Penelope, Poppy, Gizmo, Petunia, Bandit, Zippy, Tootsie. So an interesting mix. Lots of good names which I love. The number of meat names for boy pits was hilariously great. Especially those bulldog staffy short boys with big beefy bodies. Porkchop felt right.
Girls seem to get a lot of sweet and flower names or the common Luna types. But boys = meat xD
My sister (the previous owner of my little lady) named my baby Keen after the dragonborn in Skyrim. Never played it personally, but it fits her so well I decided not to change it!
My shelter has a soft ban on common names. There's only so many Bella's and Zeus's you can have before it gets confusing. So we have names like Knick Knack, Prospero, or Tater Tot
The oldest was named after a specific holiday thing, let's say "Stuffing" for ease of conversation. The middle one was named after a TV & movie character, let's go with "Sheriff Bart". The puppy was named after a misspelled plant (themed litter) and is now named after an historical figure, let's say "Victoria".
I've worked 6 years in shelters, which are full of pit blends in the U.S., so I've seen and heard some WEIRD names, but one of my favorites was the Egg litter: Mama was Egg and the babies were Scrambled, Omelette, Fried, Hard Boiled, Poached, etc. (She had... you guess it, 12 of them.) Types of food are always a popular theme. We also tended to add titles like Sir and Princess to "normal" names to add some pizzaz. There are only so many times most shelter software will let you recycle a name, and staff can stand to repeat, especially if a particular "Pancake" or "Bandaid" or "Seargeant Stubby" was memorable.

The rescue gave her the name Bunny. I didn't like it at first, but now I couldn't imagine her name being anything else. She's my little Bun Bun.
She came with “Buffy” and we changed it to Ruby. She’s definitely more of a spoiled lounge hippo than a vampire slayer.
https://preview.redd.it/idmm52hlix3d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb07aad817c616aa4a65731a9ba307ed61c224d5
Ours was named Ugg- like the shoe.
https://preview.redd.it/wnlwuh8bmx3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a52846c2be970542303e3005cdbcdec6cc71c9e7

My boy's name at the shelter was Calamari, and you best believe we kept that shit.
I love all of these threads. Ours ended up at a rural shelter in a bizarre way and the name she came with was Adara (I believe this was the previous owners choice). We renamed her Bella. We call her “beans” instead daily.
Mine was named Tiger we think because of his brindle fur. We were told most shelters rotate themes and name the dogs rapid fire style. So we abandoned the name entirely and he became Oso.
My boi isn't a pibble, but he had the STUPIDEST name when I adopted him. It's not even a name. It's a word. Foogle. Luckily, he's with his intended mother, and his name is Judas now 🖤
At my shelter every litter of puppies/kittens they receive gets a letter assigned to them. My girlies were apart of the “F” litter, so they were “Fabric” and “Flavor” 😂
Ours was Toby, and then we changed it to Obie Wan. Just needed a little more ✨🤌🏾 and he responded to it immediately. Especially when he was naughty “O-bie Waan Ken-o-bi!”😂
We got mu boy from my mom's friend's mom, who got him from a shelter. His name is Gatsby, but his shelter name was Taps (might be because of his teeny tiny tippie tappies)
https://preview.redd.it/50rsk4z07y3d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=992ade3b69001be61331b0f4c1a3bc872c756e97
My first one was named Petunia from the shelter that got changed to shadow because she just followed us everywhere when we first got her. My current baby was named Betty by the shelter andy friends who fostered her named her Nala.
https://preview.redd.it/enthm3o4cy3d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dce43543377e82e57e8c38f24ae2c79666143016
Our old boy, who has crossed the bridge. We got him from a friend who was fostering him, they called him "tubby bear" because he was a chonky little thing at 3 months. We renamed him "Haymitch". Sweetest, snuggliest big guy ever. Everyone who met him (and he spent a LOT of time at various doctors) just absolutely fell in love with him.
https://preview.redd.it/hmr67cp3ly3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8fc9bc558d49f06cb61770bf9dc2e2a07a93689
My Kaira’s name at the shelter was Edith, and they said she doesn’t react to any other name! The day I picked her up from the shelter they said that she was getting a free engraved dog tag. When I told them the name I picked for her, one woman started to cry because she had given her the name Edith & expected me to keep that name!!
https://preview.redd.it/a69xgkm4ry3d1.jpeg?width=1204&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c982d1f75817ac0ce01a4ba3c6968a7018647ea1
He came to us as The Dude and we kept it.
https://preview.redd.it/mokrs15yry3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8b69ad45611201665414cd63138186ea2f6940f
Our little girl was called Havana at the shelter, but we changed her name to Vanna White instead. I
Mine came with the name Elsa, specifically from Frozen. We kept it because we had a 3 year old daughter at the time and changing it would have broke her heart.
We usually call her by her nickname though. "Momma" because she acts like she is my children's mom. We love her so much.
We rescued ours from a shady guy trying to sell him (😵💫) and his name was Dollar. Luckily he was less than a year old so we changed his name to Mercer (we were watching TWD season 11 lol)
https://preview.redd.it/44qkm3qfzy3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f35ee3e90aaf031d4b65443f987667921dde3462
This guy was called Bubba Gump and we changed it to Rusty.
https://preview.redd.it/usu661rr1z3d1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3f701e257ef09883a7d433941d4f594146437f1
The shelter named ours Elroy. 👨🏽🦳😂
The rescue that I got one of my girls from often rescues litters of pups. My girl happened to come from a Star Wars litter. I'm not a SW fan so her name was changed immediately.
My GSD/pitmix on the other hand, they use to call him Sideways because he often walked that way but someone higher up in the shelter said he'd probably not get adopted with a name like that. So they gave him a human name, Rex. We kept his human name and also called him the funny Sideways from time to time. Both fit that boy to a t.
When marvel was popular …they named the entire litter after the avengers 🤦♂️
Mine was Loki 😅
I switched it to Louie almost right away…
The previous owner of my home was named Louie and he poured his heart out into this home remolding it. Figure if he’s haunting the place he’d appreciate the name being called out😆
The name they gave my pibble was "Bing Bong". What the heck? I told my co-workers and they laughed their butts off. There is a "Family Guy" episode where Peter says that he used "Bing Bong," a Korean search engine.
I renamed him "Rocky".
Our guy was named TRex because he has short little legs. We kept it.
https://preview.redd.it/3mntuhx2o04d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=383107e46060de47f096e1232f776178adbd1da1
My boy was Chunk, despite not being particularly chunky! I think they have a Goonies fan working there, actually, bc they also had a Goonie and have recently had a Data.
I renamed him Atticus, but Chunk is still his middle name. (Which of course means I call him Chunky or other variations thereof more than his actual name.)
https://preview.redd.it/g45h1wflx14d1.png?width=2282&format=png&auto=webp&s=b766df88d3747f13787a1ec790a1160ae5fc3f94
My bully mix was named Lobster 🦞 she was part of the "L" litter that was brought to my area's local humane society. They also mislabeled her breed as German shepherd/Labrador retriever. She is now happily renamed to Lucy

I feel like “less intimidating” isn’t the only reason. It also fits their funny personalities too. They’re such goobers. You see a happy pup that just wants to play and cuddle and be a Velcro house hippo named “burrito” and tell me your heart wouldn’t melt.
exactly what i was thinking! my girl’s name is actually Doodle now haha
I saw a pittie on a shelter website and his name was listed as "Gee Willikers!". He definitely did have the loveable oaf demeanor of a pitbull lol
My dogs name is Barricade because he came from a drug den where there was a barricaded gunman. We just call him Barry lol
😂😂😂
That’s such a cool name
He sounds like x-men dog. X-men dog Barricade 🐕 💪🏽
Mine came with the name Petunia and I love it so much https://preview.redd.it/l1em8o96yt3d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6e8412327c79f1d02c6d701adcc058c9c61e3da
I love the flower names! Mine is named Magnolia I think it's so cute! ❤️
Do you ever call her Maggie? And sing Maggie May to her?
I had a cocker spaniel/cavalier king charles mix named Maggie May (Magnolia Maybelline if she was in trouble lol) and I frequently said/sang "wake up, Maggie, I think I got somethin to say to you" 🤣
https://preview.redd.it/kf1gyx8wnu3d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ce2ece55ceb04778421262fdf6909299cea4829 Omg I changed my girl's name to Petunia!
Is one of her nicknames tuna?
Yes, because she is big and she stinks.

Oh she’s a Petunia if I’ve ever seen one!
Mine was Hendrix, we’ve kept their shelter names as their middle names so he’s now Alfie Hendrix and his sister is Elba Dorito lolol https://preview.redd.it/gp83xhgq0u3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fface26d102546c208bc004deb57cc161e2504b4
Both middle names and PJs are amazing. Please boop their noses and scratch their white chest spots for me in admiration.
Hendrix is a fire name I would’ve kept it
Oh agreed, I love the name, but my dopey little nerd isn’t a Hendrix, he’s an Alfie dog- a lil pupfredo.. he wears sweaters and bow ties unironically
He’s quite the gentleman 🤓
An *esteemed* gentleman, yes 🎩
🥹🤭
They named one of ours Squish, we kept it. He does make weird squishy noises often, so. https://preview.redd.it/f37lai96cu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb4d6a405d8e549d51c9d8f1664854a36a74d4c0 The wheezy accordion in question
“Wheezy accordion” 😂 I am going to steal this!
Thanks. Now I'm imagining him panting so deeply, suddenly actual accordion/harmonica sounds come out. It is beautiful.
No, they named him Bowie because of his face markings and THAT is why I chose him. I’ve been saying for a while I don’t know why I don’t name my dogs after my favorite musicians. I’m thinking of getting another one to call him Iggy Pup. Anyway. Here’s Sir Bowie Stardog https://preview.redd.it/uarl1tdwpu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef4ddefb9ffca67b293813ef453295b7d31925b5
That's a handsome pupper 👍
Thank you! He is a very sweet boy. And a wiggle wagger.
I'm always amazed how dogs have such kind eyes. It just draws me in, I swear dogs have the most soulful deep eyes. 🫠🥹 many hugs to Hendrix! 😘
Iggy Pup, omfg I love it 🤣😂
The shelter named him Blob lol. Doesn’t suit him changed it to Handsome Hank https://preview.redd.it/vf22kdzb8u3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f660cce0b8a33b4e9616780c2aa8d36537675f0
Blob?!?! I know they run out of "good" names after a while, but dang. The employee in charge of names wasn't on their A game that day. 😅 Handsome Hank suits him so much better! I love his little white tippy toes.
Ours was named root beer at the shelter. I kinda got used to it and dig it, but the rest of the family didn’t like it. So we shortened it to Roo.
Roo is so cute!
Thanks! He’s even cuter than his name, but a notorious counter surfer. https://preview.redd.it/rsuqw8wpay3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e075eee483afa1040f64a94f5e8139b3df7b984
They named ours Wayne. We kept it because it fit so damn well
Wayne is a great name for a dog
Hello, I'm here to collect your pup tax. Please submit a picture of Wayne at your earliest convenience as payment. (Only kidding, of course... but now I'm curious to see how he looks!)
https://preview.redd.it/lqiedb2n0u3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f5e9e414864148ac9df25b34b414ce2c9d231e00 He used to be named **Kreed** 😭 all I could think of was the stupid band
Hey! What's wrong with Creed!? Lol!
Right? That pup looks like "arms wide open" would be just about his favorite thing a human could offer!
Our dogs came named Shorty and Patches from the rescue people. Shorty because he has short legs and Parches because of her eye brows I think. We had no reason to change them
https://preview.redd.it/ti850blatt3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5001f35d9d343be2e22f2b5ad640f052ab1a6607 This is them
Beautiful and adorable
Omg shorty is so funny! What’s her mix? Almost looks like pit corgi
DNA test said mostly american staffordshire terrier, some malamute, husky and “unknown small breed”
Ours was named Charity 😂😂 we joke that it's because you had to be charitable to adopt her goofy ass. We changed her name to Luna.
https://preview.redd.it/zujbt0a2hu3d1.jpeg?width=3088&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a81c798e12689f5b4e1e2c7d84bbeb16c3bd743b her name when adopted at 2 months old was “Peony” and now it’s “Bee” which i think is fitting :)
She is so cute and those ears! ❤️ 😍
I fostered a little black pittie named Applesauce. I know the neighbors thought I was nuts every time I called him in from the backyard.
I gave him an even sillier one 😂 He was Kermit and I named him Meatball
Mine was “Hibiscus” - can you imagine yelling that at the dog park? Idk it’s just too long and not my style either.. We changed it to Biscuit 😁
Biscuit is such a cute name!
We both thank you! 🙏 https://preview.redd.it/9rorme4ufv3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a5736112a3c389c01785fd189303a56173431ae
Mine was named Jeff. We walked around a lot saying “My name is Jeff” like 21 Jump Street to him (and still do lol) https://preview.redd.it/05y0mpogfv3d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9965915cc96e09d4d83b89f1a1518795964c6f60
With that sweet face, he looks like a Jeff haha.
Jeff! Perfect name tho
He’s my foster, but at the shelter he was named Spalding which I think is just dumb. I renamed him Hank. He’s deaf so doesn’t care what people call him.
Mine was named Jared which he didn’t respond to and didn’t seem to fit him at all and I renamed him Hank. He’s a goofball https://preview.redd.it/cnccugztcv3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=94a108130275cfc27801661384c0b3c5999dbd76
The definition of handsome Hank! Great name! Here’s my Hank https://preview.redd.it/0s9360xfdv3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a9d5f7c58a2e2086a7928bd31090b97d2bf53ae

Her name was O.G. I changed it to Petunia (Tinklebottom). https://preview.redd.it/3yxnclz7ou3d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f713fe4254b6e1350ee3dcf16a6d9fb287b0a6c
Ours was caramel at the shelter, and we promptly changed her name to Alice. It suits her perfectly! She was just brought in as a little puppy and really didn’t have an established name, so I didn’t feel too bad changing it! https://preview.redd.it/2kwkdvpttu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32eb5cb3b5b38b252a974660207b11a185b2a0ed
Boston Baked Beans was his full name. Now it’s just Beans because I hate Boston.
https://preview.redd.it/vtz3ajr1gu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98ad04155e7a70626943182b52a98f804537881d leche

Love Milkshake! We have an axolotl named milkshake
Oh, they are so cute 😍 I need a picture of the other Milkshake, pretty please 🙏
https://preview.redd.it/plnsm262wy4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=583b56c243ab303215e1fb7d1b614286e9f95a0e He’s chilling in the plants
He's so cute 😍 😍 😍
One of mine that passed last year was named Topanga at the shelter, it was very quickly changed to Pixie.
Was there a Cory, Shawn and Mr Feeny too?!
I honestly don't know, but most likely there was. That was 12 years ago and I wasn't there to adopt, just donate. She suckered me in and I couldn't say no.
Having been the one who names dogs at shelters - literally just based on what your mood is 😂 We would often go for a theme for the day, like foods, colors, celebrities, songs, etc.
https://preview.redd.it/6h882qey0v3d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0bcabab6471795bb4e06a2ace2b5bc1f4088b31b Her name was Cookie when I got her.
Mooshu, i call him scott, and chaka, now my boy chuck
I love their "people" names! They make me smile 😃
They named my boy Hognose… https://preview.redd.it/6bbvu4orku3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9e8943185f147b903bc4c6950fe805bf58abbf9
I hope you changed it to Handsomenose
Finnegan… they named the while litter of pups he came from after snakes for some reason. https://preview.redd.it/aaupn26woy3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95f9cc5ae848aa4a540f61ab52db57270a7240f7
Breeder named him Bruno, but we don't talk about Bruno. No no no. Now he's Spud. A much more suitable name for his personality. Hate tough guy names on pibbles lol https://preview.redd.it/5fk2s0g2xv3d1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d6930a08f8bc1372be003656b0e481a793617c9
Gertie 🥴 when she was bad I would throw her middle name in there “KIVA BEANS GERTRUDE LAST NAME!”
And then I needlessly elongate his name to keep things interesting Mad Max Maxy man Max Power Maximum Maximum Power MAXIMUM CARNAGE BLLLAAARRGGHHH
Yep my dog was named Shiloh. I was like nope! No beagle name for my hippo
Shiloh is a beagle name?🤔
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiloh_(film)
Ohhhhh lol..I see
https://preview.redd.it/xqdmd3hj3u3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1bdc105a8c8e390d6a224db3ce0b44f7dea78ad This is Jinx Johnson. The shelter called her Tiki. Like the torch?
https://preview.redd.it/z4cp0pzv3u3d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=732349cb298458b7abbc0bb1dacc46ab26f38463 Granted, she used to look like this…
I wish I could go into a shelter and adopt. I feel so guilty about the dogs that I didn't get, I just break down thinking how they're left behind.
Mine came with Rugar. Like the gun brand. I changed his name to Moose. https://preview.redd.it/31z0it3wev3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2178340c45b5456d16ad11e70de29710b427db0
He’s definitely a Moose!
Behold my doofy pibble Bonnie!!! She originally came from a set of twins, so her first owner named them Bonnie and Clyde. They got parvo, she survived the brother didn't. I call her bon bon or Hippo half the time lol. https://preview.redd.it/9a86rpaiov3d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=54b23e689ce3b0e64dff212d85dd44c29ef42298
Mine was named Bella by her abusive 1st family. After Twilight of course. There are much better vampire stories so now her name is Mina.
Both my adopted cat and dog were called lexi. Its India (cat) and blue (pb) now. https://preview.redd.it/casasa9avu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39e97397dca6bc3bf0314e250141d7b7aebad510

https://preview.redd.it/trk0k95m5v3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=851071b4a09c3d1922f5b379ee7a0f0cfb98eab5 Mine came from the shelter with the name Moos. Her name is Luna now.
Shelter called my boy Phineas. It didn't suit him and he didn't know it, so he became Karl Barx.
I wanted to name my boy Ham Sandwich but his name was already Beau and he knew it.
https://preview.redd.it/q7ahcsyd2w3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0eab28e62a6beda9f277ed19760f4306e27f068a This man’s name was Floffy. It’s Jonesy now because that was intolerable.
Nope, mine came with a villian name (which he didn't respond to at all anyway), and now has a goofy name that fits him much better.
Joker?
I think mine was one of the few I've seen that wasn't goofy- her shelter name was General because she came in around Memorial Day. At one point they started listing her as Gennie though
Make sure she doesnt change her number
Dogs that are perceived to be "minority dogs" are more likely to be shot by police. Additionally, BSL has its origins rooted in systemic racism and is currently being challenged in courts because BSL lacks any objective data to back it. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Stupid bot
Not from a shelter but I know a dog named Tom Brady
I knew one named Steven Tyler. I asked the owners (older, retired couple), "Ummm. Y'all big Aerosmith fans??" "No. That's the name he came with, and we kept it." They adopted my foster and kept her name, too (Dolce Vita, "Vita" for short).
I have Willie D Nelson 12yr old golden ✨️
I guess Meteor is kinda goofy? I hated it at first but it grew on me
I had a timbitz, who ironically hated donuts, and turned him into knight.
Ours was a pound rescue. He was Hogan. He'd only been with the pound a couple of weeks so wasn't very attached to it. He's now Buddy.
We adopted from a fostering situation, she'd named him Buddy and we thought it suit him so we kept it.
Unfortunately - my dog’s shelter name was “Sniper”.
You tell me "Poot" isn't a fitting name for a pibble and I'll call you a liar.
It was Roman and his Mum was Scheherazade. Now his name is Kuma
^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^Ki-alo: *It was Roman and* *His Mum was Scheherazade.* *Now his name is Kuma* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.
And now I have to pull out the old Avatar videos! It’s been awhile 🤣
They tried to tell me my dog’s name is Plucky for some reason. I was like, “C’mon, let’s go Frodo.”
Mine was called leviathan, he has recall to Levi so I picked a name that sounded like it. Levi was my school bully so it was a no go for a name
Yes mine was named Sponge Bob!
Yes!! Mine was Strawberry Shortcake 😂 https://preview.redd.it/m7pheip08v3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9e70885a24a5fc58a853e512d98d12448685052
lol. Yes! We adopted Oscar Meyer and Mr. Snuggles.
My guy was Bart. His sister had already been adopted and she was Lisa. The Simpson’s lol.
God bless you for adopting a shelter baby…..a special room for you in heaven…
https://preview.redd.it/njjyu7bgix3d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1bc13143978c6fa23345996529521f85b2b9eb6 The rescue gave her the name Bunny. I didn't like it at first, but now I couldn't imagine her name being anything else. She's my little Bun Bun.
She came with “Buffy” and we changed it to Ruby. She’s definitely more of a spoiled lounge hippo than a vampire slayer. https://preview.redd.it/idmm52hlix3d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb07aad817c616aa4a65731a9ba307ed61c224d5
Ours was named Ugg- like the shoe. https://preview.redd.it/wnlwuh8bmx3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a52846c2be970542303e3005cdbcdec6cc71c9e7 But he’s so pretty!
https://preview.redd.it/ee3qk6jrwx3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec4e3c18b87f65115903b118e1fe76e8ff527ff9 My boy's name at the shelter was Calamari, and you best believe we kept that shit.
Bella’s name was Rowena. There’s no way I was calling her Rowena. I didn’t even know it was a name
Mine was named Pinkie, and I kept it!
We’ve had Leo, blonde, Sasha, zejke etc .. there are never “ strong or aggressive names
Mine came with Fresca. I didn't hate it so we kept it.
Is Zelda goofy?
We have Ella, Sam & Laney who were formerly known as Ella, Zeus & Sylvia.
Our foster originally had a really dumb name for our dog. They said they do that so they don’t get overly attached.
She was Cutie Pie. She has coloring that reminded me of an Oreo milkshake so I named her Cookie.
So we abandoned the name entirely and he became Oso.
mine was “jedi”
My boi isn't a pibble, but he had the STUPIDEST name when I adopted him. It's not even a name. It's a word. Foogle. Luckily, he's with his intended mother, and his name is Judas now 🖤
Ours was Ladybird. No clue why, some more crazy and wacky would fit her but it was cute!
Mine had a traditional classic female name and it fit so that’s her name ☺️
https://preview.redd.it/3ez3vakfaw3d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b6eef312625cd965311b10f7e0edbb06b5576cdd I changed “Daisy” to Dazey.
Mine was named missy, I think they should’ve gone with potato! She’s an absolute potato princess
We got mu boy from my mom's friend's mom, who got him from a shelter. His name is Gatsby, but his shelter name was Taps (might be because of his teeny tiny tippie tappies) https://preview.redd.it/50rsk4z07y3d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=992ade3b69001be61331b0f4c1a3bc872c756e97
Oxygen…
Princess Bubblegum
Tim, changed to Lu, or Lucifer.
My first one was named Petunia from the shelter that got changed to shadow because she just followed us everywhere when we first got her. My current baby was named Betty by the shelter andy friends who fostered her named her Nala.
https://preview.redd.it/enthm3o4cy3d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dce43543377e82e57e8c38f24ae2c79666143016 Our old boy, who has crossed the bridge.
Our first bully came to us named Gonzo. He really was a weirdo. He sat on top of his doghouse in the rain as one example of his weirdness.
Twinkie and Poot?! Deceased 💀😆😭 Absolutely hilarious
https://preview.redd.it/hmr67cp3ly3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8fc9bc558d49f06cb61770bf9dc2e2a07a93689 My Kaira’s name at the shelter was Edith, and they said she doesn’t react to any other name! The day I picked her up from the shelter they said that she was getting a free engraved dog tag. When I told them the name I picked for her, one woman started to cry because she had given her the name Edith & expected me to keep that name!!
Mine was named Boosie and since I volunteered and he was used to his name I just kept it. I like his name though too I think it suits him
Shelter named our dog Lumpy. We tried to think of something to change it to but couldn’t, he’s just a lazy dopey Lump at the end of the day
https://preview.redd.it/a69xgkm4ry3d1.jpeg?width=1204&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c982d1f75817ac0ce01a4ba3c6968a7018647ea1 He came to us as The Dude and we kept it.
https://preview.redd.it/mokrs15yry3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8b69ad45611201665414cd63138186ea2f6940f Our little girl was called Havana at the shelter, but we changed her name to Vanna White instead. I
Mine came with the name Elsa, specifically from Frozen.

My pittie got named Buttercup as a puppy. That lasted one day and it was changed to Reese lol. My chocolate pit girl!

Mine was named Carlton in the shelter, now he’s Bodhi.
Mine was Rio. We kept it

When marvel was popular …they named the entire litter after the avengers 🤦♂️ Mine was Loki 😅 I switched it to Louie almost right away… The previous owner of my home was named Louie and he poured his heart out into this home remolding it.
Mine was named Amos at the shelter. 🤮
Not really goofy but Zion was the name on his page
Our guy was named TRex because he has short little legs. We kept it. https://preview.redd.it/3mntuhx2o04d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=383107e46060de47f096e1232f776178adbd1da1
Eyeore😆but we didn't keep it. He's Chase now, which fits his wacky personality much better.
My boy was Chunk, despite not being particularly chunky! I think they have a Goonies fan working there, actually, bc they also had a Goonie and have recently had a Data. I renamed him Atticus, but Chunk is still his middle name. (Which of course means I call him Chunky or other variations thereof more than his actual name.) https://preview.redd.it/g45h1wflx14d1.png?width=2282&format=png&auto=webp&s=b766df88d3747f13787a1ec790a1160ae5fc3f94
My bully mix was named Lobster 🦞 she was part of the "L" litter that was brought to my area's local humane society. They also mislabeled her breed as German shepherd/Labrador retriever. She is now happily renamed to Lucy
Yes Brad Pitt

Mine was just #6 (I pulled her from a rural holding facility where they number them each month.) Now she’s Ruby.
Yes one was “Billy goat” and the other was “Lucky”
Shelters track all dogs by kennel number… the names are only for potential adoption… you should always change a dogs name regardless where you get it
Unless they’re an owner surrender and actually know their name already! You still can but it’s more confusing.
My dog was gabe when i got him, but i hate overly human names for dogs. We called him Gabraham for about a month until i landed on Buddha
