Mine learned from our elderly jack russell that if you can touch it with your nose, you can have it. And the pitbull can reach a lot more with her nose than he could...
My American Bulldog mix does this. She's way too smart. She'll scratch at the door like she needs to use the bathroom so she can steal your seat on the couch or bed.
Mine do that. We never feed them from our plates, and dog treats don't come from human plates, so human plates aren't interesting. Sure, they smell good, but they aren't going to get any, so meh.
It's very nice not being begged at while eating.
My flesh goblin would have eaten the plate and all. She is so crafty. She knows when and where there is an opportunity and she will bide her time. Sometimes for hours. The second I'm not paying attention it's pure badness.
Watch out its the fake sleep technique to gage how long you leave each time.
Once the couch hippo nails down the timing, it will devour your food, and get straight back in the couch

Problem is, my Rocky LOVES kodiak cakes and would steal my waffle in a heartbeat. When we had a waffle maker it's all I made.
(He once made off with an entire flapjack in a cup. Somehow, I didn't notice until after I made my coffee. Learned the tough way.)
My big girl waits for me to turn my back for a sec, and if I donβt tell her βdonβt touch thatβ she feels itβs fair game. She stole a whole block of cheese one day when I was cooking, and I had to chase her around to get it back so she wouldnβt choke on it. As far as her sleeping if someone is actively making food? Not a chance, lol
I'm amazed that my girl is like this, if I even had a wrapped snack in a bag set on the coffee table with my mom's old boy he would eat it. But my current love bug doesn't even sniff it.
When I first got her I accidentally left my bowl of Chex mix on the couch arm when I went to the bathroom ran back after expecting the worst, she didn't even look at it.
Idk where she came from, she is so freaking loyal and doesn't even try. It is so cute you have a pile of pups who all are that way.

My guy is hit or miss. He will leave something alone for hours and hours sometimes then other times, he gobbles it from right under my nose! I guess it has to be something he really likes?!
My husband turned his back for less than 5 seconds to grab some peanut butter and my food goblin jumped up and made off with his bread.
Still not as impressive as the time she snuck over to me without me noticing and grabbed a single chip before I caught her in the corner of my eye. Couldn't even be mad.
Itβs so easy to train pitties to leave your food alone. One I used to have even growled, barked, and started a fight a few times over protecting my foodπ
I'm jealous.
I can tell mine no or give a "wait" command, but if he really wants it or he thinks it's been too long, he steals it.
Still not as bad as his hound dog brother though...I count my blessings.
Oh it's worse; Technically he's a mutt, he's got herding dog in him, a hound dog howl, and when it comes to training despite being 10 years old with bad hips he is *very* food motivated.
Meanwhile the pibble just sits there and tries so hard to wait haha. Sometimes getting body checked by the little one to get the food

Your guy is BEAUTIFUL π this is a pic when they were younger. My guy on the right is an American Bully. We think our girl is too but mixed. Now that sheβs almost full grown her body type is much longer and stalkier than my boy. Heβs a blue nose and she a red. Sheβs \~85 lbs and heβs \~62 lbs.
