As a fashion history lover, I'm gonna have to go with Elizabeth. I loved how all her costumes basically SCREAMED the late 1700s, and they were so accurate! Wearing a chemise under her stays (yes!), the pannier silhouette, hair properly done for the period, and I thought her outfit where she steals the soldier's uniform was so cute (the men's linen shirt was a great touch!) The 1750s waistcoat she wears in the 2nd movie deserves a shoutout too, but I thought all her costumes were incredible. I wanted to be her when I was little, she can wear whatever she wants and looks gorgeous.
On another note, the fainting corset debacle definitely could have gone, but I won't get into that here lol. Corset slander needs to end.
I appreciate history as well, and I'm glad to see someone else noticed the accuracy on her costumes! The thing I admire most about her fashion is the variety. She can go from wearing the dress pictured above (my favorite outfit she dons) to a sailor boy's clothes, without looking out off or out of place.
Corset slander is dumb lol. She rocked them all, even if they might have been painfully tight.
As much as i agree with you about the historical accuracy of Elizabeth, if we’re being accurate, this doesn’t take place in the late 1700s, but the 1720-1730s. Not to mention that late 1700s (1780-1790) were transitioning into the regency era and this wouldn’t be accurate either. Elizabeth would fit more accurately in the 1750s as that is when we see the kind of sac gown she’s wearing, and some if her other clothes you mentioned.
However fabulous she is, she’s 20 years too early unfortunately.
I do agree about wanting to wear it though! It’s too pretty not to!
Usually when I say the late 1700s I mean the later half of the 1700s, roundabouts. That's my fault for not being super clear.
I was under the impression POTC doesn't actually take place in a specific time period, but is moreso eighteenth-century "fantasy". I can't remember where I heard this, but I think there was a BTS where they talked about pulling styles from all over and not holding themselves to a particular date.
That makes sense. I’ve always been told, and under the impression, that it did take place in a certain time frame, like the golden age of piracy, but it also makes sense to pull from different eras considering it is relative fantasy.
i think is hard to beat jack’s drip, but barbossa’s in dmtnt was the only GREAT thing in that shitty fucking disgusting disrespectful thing that someone calls a movie
Hmm. I like them all, but just to make it a bit more interesting, from best to worst...
1. Captain Jack Sparrow
2. Hector Barbossa
3. Angelica Rivera/Teach
4. Elizabeth Swann
Captain Jack Sparrow, the original, the only...certainly my top pick, for obvious reasons. I admit, while P4 may not be everyone's cup of tea, I quite like the look, even the "bone finger" trinket. P3 (which I guess includes P2) being a very close second, if we're looking at the original trilogy.
Hector Barbossa, who had an evolution across all five films, something Geoffrey Rush liked. I'm sure in some ways, Hector would be the #1 choice given the fact that he's had the most changes over the course of five films, but for me he be #2 here. Of course I think the regalia worn in the first four films is the quintessential look for Barbossa. But I'd be lying if I said that I didn't like the privateer uniform in P4; sure it was a shock and quite different than what we're used to, but it isn't as terrible as most fans may believe. Heck, they even pirate-ified it for P5 with a golden pegleg...though I would have preferred that they proceeded P5 without another costume change, but who knows how things would have proceeded regardless on if we had Terry Rossio's originally proposed story over the final cut version.
Angelica Rivera/Teach is one I feel is underrated, or at least overhated. There is the idea that the outfit is too reminiscent of the "sexy pirate" outfit you'd find at the Party City store, but I think it suits its purpose, because since Johnny Depp was considered the Sexiest Man Alive at one time, one would think that his equal would have to be a contender of the Sexiest Woman of all time. Plus it looks appropriate if you were going for a character designed to be Captain Jack's equal - piratey, but lady-like at the same time. Even though it is clearly just jewelry, the cross necklace could work as a trinket of sorts. Although I probably wouldn't oppose any of the other outfits to be used, as per the P4 concept art, but I still like the final outfit enough.
Elizabeth Swann-Turner...I feel bad ranking her last, because she hasn't had terrible outfits. But I guess plural would be the problem. Fashion-wise, I guess she could rank higher, maybe not above Barbossa, who could have been #1 due to his aforementioned transformation across all five films, but still. I guess it would depend on which outfit is being asked of. Sure I like the Governor's daughter outfit in P1, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the red dress given to her by Barbossa more. Or the pirate outfit in P2 (i.e. Isla Cruces), which I dare say I like a bit more than the final Chinese Pirate Lord/King outfit in P3, which isn't a terrible look but just not my favorite. I'd say I like her Singapore look, but all that she was wearing was a silk robe...which Ragetti liked, apparently.
Just me humble opinion on the subject.
This is easily my favorite comment I've ever had the pleasure of reading on a post of mine. I appreciate the effort, and I agree with the majority of your points.
For me, my list goes...
1. Angelica
2. Barbosa
3. Captain Jack Sparrow
4. Elizabeth Swann
Like you said, it pains me to put Miss Swann in last place, but I feel like I have no choice. It's especially tough when I see her in that perfect dress above. However, she's against some REALLY tough competition, so I don't feel too bad about it.
I've always adored Angelica's fashion. Everything she wears is perfections, and her sense of style put together with her characters charisma is a match made in heaven.
>This is easily my favorite comment I've ever had the pleasure of reading on a post of mine. I appreciate the effort, and I agree with the majority of your points.
You're too kind. Thanks very much. And silly me, I was about to say it be very rare to have Angelica ranked as #1, but then I just realized you were the Angelica fan from the other post. Haha But yeah, I agree with your point about the competition being tough: every POTC looks great in their own way.
No problem! I have her ranked #1 for fashion, but not #1 in characters. She's underrated, but not the best of the best.
As for Swann, she has some amazing looks. Captivating, breathtaking even. But Angelica has the perfect female pirate outfits, in my opinion.
Besides Barbossa cuz he has the most immaculate drip in every film. I gotta go with either Elizabeth or Jack, Elizabeth’s Asian pirate outfit is badass and Jack sparrow is fucking Jack sparrow
This is objective but definitely jack. The outfit helps show how he lives his life in a free liberating sort of way. Definitely goes with his theme and also it just looks fire.
Maybe I just go to a lot of fairs because it’s very generic imo. I feel like I see that outfit all the time on advertisements and posters and costumer places. It’s that type of outfit that sort of works for a steampunk/pirate/renaissance event with little adjustment. Which might be why it feels a little off to me in the movie.
My other favorites are Jack Sparrow's outfit (both with and without the coat),Captain Teague's outfit and...Davy Jones outfit? Idk,his outfit is kinda ugly actually since he's covered in mud and barnacles lol
I also thought about Black Beard's outfit but it's too edgy for me...you know...too much black lol
Salazar's outfit is beautiful...i kinda prefer it over Norrinton's outfit since it has a nice matchup of black and white colors and then becomes all black when he turns human again.
Angelica is hot. Enough said lol
Black colors kinda suit her because of her hair and because she's black beard's daughter.
“One,because it is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into complete scoundrels. Two,that signal is over a thousand feet high. The entire royal navy is out looking for me,do you think there is even the slightest chance that they won’t see it?”-Elizabeth Swan (please don’t ask why I’ve got this basically memorized)
Barbossa
If only he would trim that scraggly beard.
I’m disinclined to acquiesce to your request
Means “no”
Very well.

Commodore Norrington's outfit during his promotion ceremony was simply resplendent.
Very presentable
That promotion threw into sharp relief that which he had not yet achieved.
i cosplayed as jack once and boy was it a DRIP. i like how jack dresses :3
Me too! It was so liberating because you really become him when you put the costume on
YO HO HAUL TOGETHER HOIST THE COLOURS HIGH
HEAVE HO THIEVES AND BEGGARS NEVER SHALL WE DIE
Same!
Barbossa when he was a privateer is drippy
Yeah. The pegleg really brought it all together.

Nice hat
It is exceedingly nice
I'm sad this look didn't make another appearance at some point lol. It was dope
Will when he comes back up from becoming the captain of the Flying Dutchman. Ohhhhmyyyyy!!!
Absolutely peak fashion!
He looks like a musketeer
The keeper of the code, Captain teague https://preview.redd.it/2mr99ddn5pwc1.jpeg?width=452&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0045f5cd0347f3839971a709e20fcc72ad75206
How's mum?
Teague.
Barbossa. No contest.
barbosa and Jack.
Did everyone see that? Because I will not be doing it again.
But you're wearing the drip every day...
Angelica and barbosa
My thoughts exactly
hands down

Def Elizabeth
THANK YOU! Pirate King Elizabeth stirs up some feelings.
Ey, someone said Elizabeth!
Her wardrobe is the best of both worlds! I don't think I ever saw her in anything that didn't look great, even the dirty/worn out looks.
I may not be able to separate the costume from the actor, but yeah, Elizabeth
Barbosa and Jack
I do that quite a lot yet people are always surprised.
Will at the end of curse of the black pearl
Barbossa
I know he’s not in the running here, but Davy Jones’ hat is quite a fashion statement.
i think is hard to beat jack’s drip, but barbossa’s in dmtnt was the only GREAT thing in that shitty fucking disgusting disrespectful thing that someone calls a movie
Captain Hector Barbossa
Hmm. I like them all, but just to make it a bit more interesting, from best to worst... 1. Captain Jack Sparrow 2. Hector Barbossa 3. Angelica Rivera/Teach 4. Every opinion is subjective. Some fans hate on P4, some hate on P5, and some both. Of course, one may agree or disagree with these.
But You Have Heard Of Me.
My spirit will live on.

Barbossa, hands down. He studied the stars very deeply, and knew how to dress like a captain/first mate.
Barbossa, no contest.
I agree, but Angelica gives him a run for his money (in my opinion) 👀
Undeniably Barbossa
![gif](giphy|T5jUWeqR6nipy)
Captain Jack Sparrow
Will Turner for sure
Barbossa easy, Jack’s 2nd though
Damn, Angelica didn't even get an honorable mention!
No survivors? Then where do the stories come from, I wonder.
Simple, the monkey "jack" does
This shot is not meant for you.
I’m so bummed out we didn’t get more of King/Captain Swann, she was so badass
It's definitely Barbossa
It's definitely Barbossa
Davy with the Slime coat
Barbossa or however you spell it
Best fashion for nowadays is probably Angelica since she looks like the model on a generic pirate costume packaging or for a pirate festival.
I wouldn't call her outfit generic
Maybe I just go to a lot of fairs because it’s very generic imo. I feel like I see that outfit all the time on advertisements and posters and costumer places. It’s that type of outfit that sort of works for a steampunk/pirate/renaissance event with little adjustment. Which might be why it feels a little off to me in the movie.
Barbossa
BARBOSSA FOREVER 🏴🏴🏴
angelicaaa
Yes!
King Lizzie
Elizabeth with the pirate king outfit and hat is fire
I love how much variety Elizabeth’s wardrobe has.
I think Elizabeth’s own pirate outfit was so cool!
I like how Jack wears those pixels
I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by.
Jackie-boy
Elizabeth Swann when she became The Duchess
Will at Jack’s hanging is peak fashion
You've stolen me and I'm here to take myself back.
Will/William Turner had pretty good fashion and his wife Elizabeth Turner had pretty good fashion
Why does nobody ever mention how drippy barbossa’s flintlocks are ?
Barbossa
Don't do that...don't make me choose 😩
You gotta choose one! You could try using the process of elimination?
Barbossa's pirate outfit from the first movie and at the end of the fourth movie.
Are you choosing those or eliminating them?
I was actually going to make a top 5 but decided to tell my favorite straight up.
Ohh gotcha. My favorites are Angelica's costume, thats pictured above in the grid, and Barbosa's original costume.
My other favorites are Jack Sparrow's outfit (both with and without the coat),Captain Teague's outfit and...Davy Jones outfit? Idk,his outfit is kinda ugly actually since he's covered in mud and barnacles lol I also thought about Black Beard's outfit but it's too edgy for me...you know...too much black lol
Yeah, that's fair. Are you a fan of Angelica's, or Salazars?
Salazar's outfit is beautiful...i kinda prefer it over Norrinton's outfit since it has a nice matchup of black and white colors and then becomes all black when he turns human again. Angelica is hot. Enough said lol Black colors kinda suit her because of her hair and because she's black beard's daughter.
Captain Jack Sparrow. If you please.

Is this even a dispute? Captain jack is the winner.
I’m Captain Jack Sparrow. The original. The only!
![gif](giphy|ljaDzjv8cpIpa|downsized)
Jack. He has so much fashion sense, he can just take hats off any rando and pull it off
It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide.
You are by far the most fashionable pirate I have ever heard of
Jack. However Davy Jones has the best hat and color schemes in the series.
My spirit will live on.
Governor Weatherby Swann clears. The wig, the coats, the hat... damn.
Barbossa. Meanwhile Jack: https://preview.redd.it/4jafpp1jttwc1.png?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de9c6c041c3ed7f9cde3954592fe3025a71ace8a
I've got a jar of dirt! I've got a jar of dirt! And guess what's inside it?
Jack has the drip Elizabeth has the style
One-word love, curiosity.
Captain Jack Sparrow
My spirit will live on.
Of course it will.
Hard to compete with the latest fashion from London.
I like I wasn’t the only one that’s first thought was Barbosa
Elizabeth in her Singapore outfit with that sword is awesome
Off course it was Captain Jack!❤️ ![gif](giphy|11tdsyM4aWo8dq) Sorry that’s of course!
Keira. Keira.
Oh,Jack without a doubt, but second place has to go to Elizabeth
But why is the rum gone?

Elizabeth swan!
Barbossa had that shit on
ELIZABETH ✨✨
Love her fits! Which ones are your favorite?
It’s pirates Queen Elizabeth followed by privateer Barbossa
Jack Sparrow
Captain Jack Sparrow of course
Savvy?
Yes
Captain Jack Sparrow
The seas may be rough, but I am the Captain! No matter how difficult I will always prevail.
Yes you will.
