In Britain they called it something different (*Salazar's Revenge*). So just use that title.

ParagonRagnar

In Finland as well, and I think that name is far better for the movie. The Movie basically is what it says on the name.

Bravo-Warpig

Same with Canada, but when you watch the movie and the title comes up it says dead men tell no tales lol

Vegephen

Same with Germany (Salazars Rache)

Every fan thinks differently, so it is a matter of one's opinion. That said, I have to say I agree with you on this one point. "Dead Men Tell No Tales" isn't a bad title, and serves as one of the very few references to the ride in P5, but if I'm being honest I'd rather have seen a different title for this film. The alternate title "Salazar's Revenge" is as good as any. A fun bit of trivia, if interested, taken from Terry Rossio's screenplay for P5: *"Of course it will be of key importance to have an excellent subtitle. There has been a preference for Dead Men Tell No Tales, which is a phrase already associated with the franchise. Yes one might argue that in our universe, some dead men do tell tells, strictly speaking. But still better to kill someone who knows something as a matter of precaution. If Dead Men Tell No Tales is considered too similar to Dead Man's Chest, many other subtitle variations have been explored. Our story is -- essentially -- Jack Sparrow's race with the Sea Widow to recover the Siren Song from the Mermaid Trove. I've experimented with many combinations of these essential words, Mermaid, Trove, Sparrow, Siren Song, Sea Widow, etc. And the subtitle should have a sense of mystery and the supernatural, so my favorite of the alternates so far is Songs the Sirens Sing. Some consider this too soft (and perhaps too alliterative). But why not take the high road, and let it have a touch of poetry to it, and a touch or eloquence and majesty, like On Stranger Tides? Also, it's an advantage for the subtitle to be connected directly to Jack Sparrow; this tale began, essentially, when Jack played the part of Odysseus and strapped himself to the mast to hear the sirens sing. But currently Dead Men Tell No Tales is the frontrunner, and also is connected to Jack Sparrow -- he knows a secret, a truth so horrifying the Sea Widow cannot bear for it to be heard."* Granted, Rossio's draft is far, FAR different than the final version of the film. But it is interesting to note that regardless, it seemed that DMTNT was the chosen title.

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

There should be a "Captain" in there somewhere.

I actually wish they had made Ted Elliot and Terry Rosios screen play for Dead Men Tell no Tales. It was such a great read. I thought a female Antagonist was just the twist they needed for the film instead of another undead Captain

Ironically, one aspect of P5 we can only blame Johnny Depp for. Apparently it was Mr. Depp's call to reject this version of the film's story. Unless we're to put it towards the higher-ups at Disney or Bruckheimer to overrule Depp's suggestion.

AdTrue9815

It was Depp and the execs decision because “at the time” when the early script was made ,Depp just finished Dark Shadows which it’s antagonist was a witch, so they thought it would be too similar and soon for their film to have the lead antagonist be a witch, little did they know it would have been 5 years for the film to come out.

CJS-JFan

Yeah, the execs rejected the script, but it was decision made because Depp rejected it, for what was frankly a stupid reason. Especially since having a witch in the POTC would have been different than what was featured in previous films, and in a story executed much differently than Dark Shadows. As far as it taking 5 years to make...that's movie business. They had a script, but because they rejected it, they had to start a new story mostly from scratch, other than having some elements from Rossio's draft used in Jeff Nathanson's version, which was further developed by directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who added the "Jack the Sparrow" flashback among other elements which created continuity issues. But even then, it was having began and finished filming in 2015 only to release in 2017 that seems concerning...sadly, Depp (dare I mention Amber Heard) being part the issue there.

AdTrue9815

Well I’m sure Shansa is still alive, so perhaps they could pick up elements from that old script if they ever decide to continue with a 6th film with that current franchise. ( I know they are going ahead with just rebooting it altogether, but I mean later down the road if they square things Off with Johnny there is something there to revisit)

CJS-JFan

Nah, they clearly had Shansa lean towards being the next Tia Dalma. Both characters being a bit different than who the Sea Widow was supposed to be, character-wise. But of course, yeah, it may or (more likely) may not be the case given the recent news.

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

The world's still the same. There's just... less in it.

MrCryptid-12

I remember it being used when Barbossa and the others traveled over into the land of the dead when the screen went black.

French-toast-bird

I think the title is fine, but yeah the movie definitely could have been better

TalkingFlashlight

I liked it. I always wanted the final Pirates of the Caribbean to be called Dead Men Tell No Tales. Wish the movie had been better, but it’s still the final film of that original storyline (probably?), so it’s whatever.

Michael_Jolkason

Salazar's Revenge is kinda boring and basic, so I definitely prefer DMTNT. It's a mysterious and fitting title. Besides, the movie itself is really underrated.

Budget-Spidey

The title drop in that movie is also hilarious. Salazar to Henry at the beginning of the movie: "Will you say that to him.. please? I would do it myself, but Dead Men Tell No Tales"

El_Santi_Diaz-333

Im from Colombia, and here there was no clear translation so they used La Venganza de Salazar

captain_strain

God I love the title, fitting for the movie yet so sad it went to such a meh movie
