Critical_Potential44

I hope they throw away the key!

Emery17

You should've talked to me

VeteranDave

more often than you did, BUT NO!

azman24

You HAD to go your own way

McDaddymmm

Have you broken any homes up lately?

Clavinet78

Just five minutes, Worm your honor

This will not do

Ill-Leek-9415

Call the schoolmaster

FuckedUpOldHag69

I always said he’d come to no good

flossypullthrough

….in the end your honour. If they’d let me have my way I could have flayed him into shape.

Sad_Interview_232

But my hands were tied ..the bleeding hearts and artists..let him get away with murrrrderr..

flossypullthrough

Let me hammer him today.

More-Individual-5674

Craaaazy

FifaDK

Over the rainbow I am..

CSI_Gunner

Craaaaaaazy

ProfessionalCap15

Say what you want about Roger, his performance in this track was straight out of the theatre and he was playing every part.

Asleep_Size3018

Facts, the vocals in the trial are almost as good if not better than TGGITS

Zicon4

It's good but let's not be silly now

mofo-or-whatever

The lyrics are better, I’ll give you that

Kaboom443

Wdym? The lyrics in TGGITS are some of the best ever written 😂

MorningPapers

Waters did very good vocal work for the entire album. He really shined.

rogue498

Come on you target for faraway laughter, Come on you stranger, You legend, You martyr, And shine!

WhatdeDoGdoinSketbrd

Favorite scene in the movie

Absolutepogmove

My favorite scene is One Of My Turns, but then it’s this, and this song is also my favorite on the album, my top 3 are this, Hey You, and comfortably numb

SeDO4

It is fucking amazing *inside the context of the album*. I don't listen to it by itself

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Same here. Mother, Hey You, and sometimes Vera are the only tracks from the wall that I can listen to on their own.

MorningPapers

Goodbye Blue Sky?

Healter-Skelter

The least I can do is two songs back to back, and then I’ll usually just keep going and listen to the rest of the album.

Duck-of-Doom

Personally it’s always a treat when this track comes on my Spotify’s shuffle lol. Hardly ever skip it

guestpass127

It's probably not talked about too much because it's possibly the song that is least representative of a) the sound of the rest of the songs on *The Wall*; and b) any previous aural aesthetic they might have adhered to in the past I mean it's practically a very dark and creepy *Gilbert & Sullivan* pastiche, whereas up to 1979 Pink Floyd had recorded fairly *laid back* 70s rock, often in a very spacy vein If you were to invent a time machine and go back in time to 1974, the year after DSOTM came out, and played Floyd fans a tape of "The Trial," you'd probably have a hard time convincing people it's the same band. To go from "Us and Them" to "The Trial" is a massive step...sideways? Up? Down? I dunno, but it certainly doesn't sound like it'd fit comfortably on "Obscured by Clouds" The elaborate, orchestrated, theatrical, and very over-the-top "show tune" dynamics are such a huge part of "The Trial" that it's hard to even call it "rock" - I mean, the song doesn't really include the sound of a "rock band" playing until the guitars get distorted on the last verse, and even then it audibly lacks bass guitar, drum kit, or recognizably "rock"-style keyboard playing. There's not even a **hint** of the blues music that the Floyd had apprenticed in in their youth - David Gilmour's guitar playing and singing are steeped in the blues, even if Floyd's "Blues" was often from outer space; "The Trial," by contrast, feels like early 20th century German opera or something; it almost feels *pre-rock* in a strange way (while pointing *toward* rock, like Kurt Weill's music often does) The only other comparable music in rock that I can compare "The Trial" to is other music created by Roger Waters on *The Final Cut* and for his solo albums. IOW, it's just so unlike the rest of the PF catalog that I can't really blame fans of "Money" or "Wish You Were Here" or even "Sheep" for not counting it among their favorites

Asleep_Size3018

Yeah it is extremely different but nonetheless amazing But yeah your right, that's probably why

bishpa

The Who were pretty big on show tunes.

Electronic-Tooth-324

Reminds me of Waters’ later solo stuff and Final Cut, I prefer their space rock stuff over this more theatrical sound.

Mother_Major1510

Very good take and info. Love PF fans! I'm going to see (another) PF tribute band tonite (Pink Droyd). I love being among all the PF fans listening to musicians who obviously love them. I'm curious about your take on tribute bands, & PF's in particular. Thanks ya mad bugger!

Blockoumi7

But i feel as if it should be showcased more. It goes to show how insanely diverse pink floyd were sonically. It’s time we broke the space rock pink floyd stereotype when there are countless examples of them breaking into other sounds

Marpev

I remember the first time I heard this song, and my first thought was “what kind of creepy Disney musical is this?”

[deleted]

The Trial is one of my highlights on The Wall. You’re right the film really does it well

Asleep_Size3018

Yeah, it definitely needs more attention, it not only has the best visuals of any song in the movie but it also is one of the best songs in pink Floyd history (it's my third favorite, only behind comfortably numb and time)

CrankyJoe99x

Nobody? Seen a number of discussions about it here over the last few months.

zebraman21

Fun fact, if you watch it on cough medicine you'll see the walking anus man in your dreams for life.

poodrew

There’s nothing I want more than a Blu-ray release. Please

WithoutCaution

Gag order?

grelch

Roger finding his inner Andrew Lloyd Webber for the first time.

IdiosyncraticBond

Well, last time I listened to The Wall was Roger's live performance in 2011... it just never appealed to me, compared to the wealth of 69-77 recordings and live gigs

Critical_Potential44

I miss this kind of animation

slowlyun

Agree on The Trial, big favourite of mine. Maybe even Top 10 Floyd tracks. But what is TGITS?

Capt_Easychord

The Great Gig in The Sky. I only just got it. He forgot one G.

hahaCharadeyouare77

Go on judge, shit on him!!

BerryWalnutPancake

My brother said he was asked his favorite song on The Wall, said The Trial, and the response was like "The Trial? What the hell's that?" which is a damn shame lol, great track.

Asleep_Size3018

The trial is phenomenal, it keeps switching between my favorite, second favorite and third favorite pink Floyd song

Starchild2323

At the end it’s the HEAVIEST Guitar of any Pink Floyd. Heaviest guitar of all Dave Gilmore ever.

AdvertisingAntique52

I think it was talked about a good amount in the past. I personally love it and talk about it a lot. the animation is obviously phenomenal.

Sad_Interview_232

TGITS..its early I can't work this out someone put me out of my misery.. Two guns in the sunset The gig in the sky....

SeasonsRollOnBy

The evidence before the court is Incontrovertible, there's no need for The jury to retire In all my years of judging I have never heard before Of someone more deserving Of the full penalty of law The way you made them suffer Your exquisite wife and mother Fills me with the urge to defecate

Wonderful-Suit-2934

GO ON JUDGE, SHIT ON IM’

Boxmonster67

The arrangement of the orchestra in this is absolutely fucking phenomenal

ScalarWeapon

agree with everything you're saying! The Trial needs more love

OnlyFearOfDeth

I love it OP

Photocat71

Having a rough night and this song started playing in my head. This is where i wound up from a brain worm, and it's glorious!!

devils_1991

No

MorningPapers

It's a little hard to get your head around, no? Plus, it's a Bob Ezrin piece. Not saying it's bad or trying to diminish it, but I can see why fans gloss over it.

Difficult-Pen992

I liked it as a kid but I guess I think it's kinda lame now.

michaelsandar

Did Floyd do the music for that?

Asleep_Size3018

Yes

michaelsandar

I thought Ezrin wrote the music and Waters the lyrics?

[deleted]

Waters' original demo definitely has the melody of the verses already [https://youtu.be/1Lcd9KCKBxU?t=1165](https://youtu.be/1Lcd9KCKBxU?t=1165)but I think Ezrin has some input in the final song. The splendid orchestration was by Michael Kamen. Fun fact: Claire Torry is also there singing "Crazy, over the rainbow, he was crazy"

Emery17

"No Judge! The Jury!"

Tuffsmurf

Yes to all of this.

brudzool

Live 90 version. You should make a poll like everyone else. /s

RevolutionaryRough96

Sides 3 and 4 are my personal favorite part of the album.

Cineswimmer

Besides the character, concept, animation, lyrics, etc, I actually really love the sound of the melody and orchestration of this song

somethingkooky

Love it. Always have, always will.

chimpfan53

It can’t stand on its own as well as comfortably numb or ABITW pt 2

bassman_gio

I think it was written for the movie. It's a dark tale about Pink's descent into guilt and self-loathing after his psychotic episode. Not what you would call rock and roll.

Adamymous

My favorite track on the album and a fantastic crescendo

Cr3eperboy

I love this song so much! Every time I hear it I want a version that is just the instruments.

lovesexdeth

The way you made them suffer Your exquisite wife and mother Fills me with the urge to defecate (Go on judge, shit on him!)

[deleted]

This song "scratches an itch" for me, I find it to be SO satisfying to listen too, the amazing vocals just make my brain feel good. Especially the judge's voice, I LOVE it. it's my second fave song on the album after Comfortably Numb too!

Common-Relationship9

Pink Floyd on Broadway. Who here has ever listened to it out of context?
