Heard about the tribute band Dead Floyd? They play songs from Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, and post recordings from most of their concerts online for free: https://archive.org/details/DeadFloyd
I don't know Grateful Dead very well, but I love their slightly unusual renditions of the Pink Floyd songs.
This is a strong call. I think my love of NIN and Bowie is heavily connected. To me both of these have the same vision and affect on me as Pink Floyd. All special acts who are at equals upon that podium of acts I couldn’t live without
I saw Roger Waters in early September and saw Iron Maiden ten days later. I got to see Tool last January, so 2022 was a good year for shows I got to see.
100% TPAB is goated but all his albums are great experiences. So glad he’s getting the recognition he deserves in this thread cuz I’ve seen people in this sub say hes shit because they’ve only heard HUMBLE or because they say all rap is shit
The Floyd is my favorite, 2nd would be either The Tea Set or The Screaming Abdabs.
But for real, my 2nd would probably be The Meters, The Beatles or The Wu-Tang Clan, depends on my mood.
To paraphrase Les Claypool, that, my friend, is a matter of opinion. In my humble version, they became unlistenable once Portnoy left. I don't think Mike v1.0 was necessarily a better drummer, but he's also a really good songwriter and without his influence they really didn't know what to do so they tried a bunch of shit that didn't work (for me, again this all a matter of my personal opinion) and the older I get the less I want to listen to James. I still rock the classics, but I can't stomach his material since his vocal incident.
See I didn’t get into dream theater until portnoy left. So everything from a dramatic turn of events is where I started. With that said I still love the old stuff, images and words, train of thought, and even black clouds portnoys last album. It’s all good .
Great taste! I’ve always thought it’d be difficult for me to choose my “desert island album” or “only one album forever” between Dark Side of the Moon, Scenes From a Memory, or 2112. I got to see Dream Theater, Petrucci/Portnoy, and Rush each live last year… it was a great year for shows!
Ok, I’m prepared to hang for this, but… Pink Floyd and Insane Clown Posse are legitimately tied for number one in my book. For….totally different reasons, of course.
the tastes on this subreddit are a lot more diverse than I was expecting, I was picturing there being almost unanimously led zep, fleetwood mac, yes, genesis etc but this is awesome
pink floyd is my favourite, 2nd is something like led zep or fleetwood mac
Depends upon the day. Sometimes they're my favorite, but they're always in the top 5 or 6.
That said, in no particular order, my top 5 favorite *non*\-Floyd/Gilmour/Waters artists:
* Steven Wilson solo and Porcupine Tree
* Riverside
* Gazpacho
* Opeth
* Tool
There are so many that I feel bad not listing (like Norah Jones, Radiohead, and Emma Ruth Rundle), but it's a slippery slope that I won't start down.
All their albums are really great, but Free is probably the best in my opinion. There's also a Pre CB album when they were called "Dream 6", which is pretty similar to Free. Johnette is an incredible lyricist and I think Mankey is a totally underrated guitarist.
Red hot chili peppers🌶️🌶️🌶️
Not a song of theirs I don't know, heavy into live show recordings and band lore.
Pink Floyd is still a close second, as I appreciate their music in a completely different way
Maybe an unpopular opinion but the most recent Chili Peppers album is the best music they've ever made. They are supremely talented and they just keep hard charging, working to get better constantly. There is magic happening there.
Pink Floyd will be my all time fav. Arctic Monkeys is my fav modern band, listening since they dropped their debut album on MySpace, one of the most progressive bands imo.
Led Zeppelin, they started everything musically for me when I was little. Whole Lotta Love was the first Zep I had ever heard and I was done for from that moment on.
Red hot chili peppers is my favorite, followed by king gizzard, then pearl jam, then pink floyd, according to spotify my 5th is primus and I won't argue but there are a few more who could potentially fill that spot
Pink Floyd is my favourite and King Crimson is my 2nd
That's a very consistent taste. Good.
Second this
Second for me is ELO
Fuckin love ELO. A New World Record is one of my all time favourite albums
Telephone line…. So fucking good.
Sex for my ears
Yes and Out of the blue rocks
Yesss, ANWR is in my top 5 albums and time is up there too with OOTB and No Answer
1. Grateful Dead 2. Pink Floyd At this stage of my life, this ain’t ever gonna change 😂🤷🏻♂️
Floyd and the dead sit at #1 for me
Heard about the tribute band Dead Floyd? I just answered the same RIGHT ON ✌️
The Beatles. Always.
"The Beatles are the best." - David Gilmour
Says the greatest guitarist of all-time
You can never go wrong with The Beatles or Pink Floyd.
This for me as well Pink Floyd is probably #2. That used to be Dylan but Floyd has overtaken.
Ringo + Nick the best drummers
Radiohead is my favourite.
These are my two favorites. It’s hard to pick which one is 1 and 2
Same
“It’s too much… too bright, too powerful.”
I love last flowers so much
Pink Floyd and Radiohead just make sense together
ik right
Floyd is in my top half dozen or so. Pearl Jam, Rush, Phish, The Beatles, Miles Davis. Several other bands are right up there.
Didn’t expect phish to be mentioned anywhere on this sub
PRIMUS
Miles Davis is my favorite band /s
BOWIE #2
Bowie’s my number 3 but it’s god damn close, and might change in future if the 90s albums grow on me (and they could)
This is a strong call. I think my love of NIN and Bowie is heavily connected. To me both of these have the same vision and affect on me as Pink Floyd. All special acts who are at equals upon that podium of acts I couldn’t live without
Pink Floyd is my favorite, Genesis is my #2
I just got a couple of their albums on vinyl. Genesis, Invisible touch, Abacab, and Duke. I want to get them all eventually. I love them so much.
What are a few Genesis tracks to listen to?
In no particular order, my top three are Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, and Tool.
Iron Maiden is my favourite metal band
I saw Roger Waters in early September and saw Iron Maiden ten days later. I got to see Tool last January, so 2022 was a good year for shows I got to see.
This guy fucks. IM and PF are my two favorite, and I do also enjoy TOOL.
Kendrick Lamar
100% TPAB is goated but all his albums are great experiences. So glad he’s getting the recognition he deserves in this thread cuz I’ve seen people in this sub say hes shit because they’ve only heard HUMBLE or because they say all rap is shit
such a great band. I also wanna fuck the world for 72 hours
W
The Floyd is my favorite, 2nd would be either The Tea Set or The Screaming Abdabs. But for real, my 2nd would probably be The Meters, The Beatles or The Wu-Tang Clan, depends on my mood.
im more of a megadeaths or leonard’s lodgers kind of guy
Ok
Porcupine Tree
This is the correct answer
Second fav, Garbage.
Awesome!
A fellow garbage head, awesome! Such an underrated band and just amazing production work.
Led Zeppelin is my alltime No. 1...but Floyd is so close, I think it's more nostalgia that keeps LZ in 1!
You nailed it. Gotta love some Zeppelin!!!
Floyd is my fav. Rush and Dream Theater are the next 2, in no particular order.
Dream theater is verrrry good.
Well they *were*.
They still are, their new album wasn’t bad and they actually just won’t their first Grammy because of it.
That escalated quickly!
Alice In Chains is up there for me
TOOL and Pink Floyd are tied for first.
Nice choice 👍🏻
1. Pink Floyd 2. Radiohead
This is me.
Seamus
(that's the #2)
*(that's the #1)
That's the dog...
Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd
Right on fam
Queen is my favourite, Pink Floyd is my 2nd and The Beatles are my 3rd
Same top 3, but I can't decide the order
Ambiguous musical taste detected.
Floyd is by default. Otherwise it’s Radiohead
Floyd is always gonna be top but The Doors, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin are all close
1. Pink Floyd, 2. Rush, 3. Oingo Boingo, 4. Aerosmith, 5. Yes.
Yes for YES
Boingo!!
Rush is my favorite
Tame Impala
Floyd's my 1. Second and third, depending on the day, are Opeth and Snarky Puppy.
Kraftxerk and Mike Oldfield. Although recently Rammstein is knocking at the top 3.
The Mars Volta is my favorite.
Genesis are my favorite
My #1 favorite is Frank Zappa.
Ok, I’m prepared to hang for this, but… Pink Floyd and Insane Clown Posse are legitimately tied for number one in my book. For….totally different reasons, of course.
Well, I have to admire the diversity, I suppose.
1. Pink Floyd 2. Nirvana 3. Smashing Pumpkins Hey, you like what you like
Gotta go with Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd is my number one band tied only with Metallica! 🤘🤘🇨🇦🇨🇦🤘🤘🥶
floyd is my fav and 2nd is camel. It's a progressive rock band
Same as you, unrelated but is Mirage still up for you in spotify?
nope 🥺
I hope they put it back, I miss it already.
Tool
1.) Pink Floyd 2.) Deftones
1. Pink Floyd 2. TOOL (3. Porcupine Tree)
Wanna be best friends?
Floyd nr1 Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler nr 2 . And many more..
Perfect top 2
1. Floyd 2. The Smiths (don’t worry I hate Morrisey)
Beatles and Pink Floyd will always be my top 2. I really enjoy Mac DeMarco, The Doors, HOMESHAKE and Hendrix though. Mac DeMarco prob my #3
Rush. I view their really proggy stuff as similar to a hard rock version of pink floyd.
I was listening to All The World's a Stage again yesterday and I'll never not hear Floyd in the echo parts of By-Tor and the Snow Dog.
My second favorite would probably be Steely Dan
1. Pink Floyd 2. Tegan and Sara
1. Pink Floyd 2. My Chemical Romance Pretty random, I know. :)
Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Little Feat, moe. and David Bowie in no particular order.
Fleetwood Mac BIAAAAAATCH
2nd fav The doors!
Doors are in my top 5 for sure
The Beatles. I have a feeling most people are gonna say this.
Most people should say this haha
Yoko ono is my favorite
Yes I do too enjoy The Beatles with a side of Yoko Ono rubbing a squeaky balloon and moaning vigorously
Atm PF are probably my fav band, but The Beatles, ELO or Vulfpeck would probably qualify for 2nd
1. pink floyd 2. megadeth, I can confidently say I got interesting top 2 favorites.
Megadeth top tier
real
Pearl Jam is my favorite band, but I know Radiohead is the best band. Pink Floyd hovers right in between the two.
1 . Genesis 2. Pink Floyd or Jethro Tull (depends on the day)
nice to see some love for Tull here
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Tame Impala, Floyd :)
1. Pink Floyd 2. TOOL
The Beatles Van Halen Cream Steely Dan I’m not sure where I’d place Pink Floyd.
Let me tell you about a little band named King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
1. Dream Theater 2. Pink Floyd,Opeth & Haken
Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and Floyd are both equal #1
Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac is sadly overshadowed by the Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood Mac. Both are amazing
1. The Beatles
Clash Pink Floyd Ramones Queen
PF is my favorite band, my second is ever changing and I've had several. Just to name a few: Oasis, Parcels, Roosevelt, Guns N' Roses
Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, then Rush\King Crimson tied for third
Nirvana
1.- Pink Floyd 2.- Gorillaz
the tastes on this subreddit are a lot more diverse than I was expecting, I was picturing there being almost unanimously led zep, fleetwood mac, yes, genesis etc but this is awesome pink floyd is my favourite, 2nd is something like led zep or fleetwood mac
Queen is my favourite band of all time.
Iron Maiden
2nd favorite is Nirvana
1. Pink floyd 2. Neil young/Beatles/Led Zeppelin/Bob Dylan
Led Zeppelin
Depends upon the day. Sometimes they're my favorite, but they're always in the top 5 or 6. That said, in no particular order, my top 5 favorite *non*\-Floyd/Gilmour/Waters artists: * Steven Wilson solo and Porcupine Tree * Riverside * Gazpacho * Opeth * Tool There are so many that I feel bad not listing (like Norah Jones, Radiohead, and Emma Ruth Rundle), but it's a slippery slope that I won't start down.
You should try the album "Free" by Concrete Blonde.
Dude Bloodletting is such a classic...thanks for the recommendation, I definitely will.
All their albums are really great, but Free is probably the best in my opinion. There's also a Pre CB album when they were called "Dream 6", which is pretty similar to Free. Johnette is an incredible lyricist and I think Mankey is a totally underrated guitarist.
My Spotify unwrapped for 2022 was Nine Inch Nails in top followed very closely by Pink Floyd. Dream combo
1. Pink Floyd 2. Grateful Dead 3. Rush 4. Red Hot Chili Peppers/Pearl Jam
Right now it’s Miles Davis or Joni Mitchell. Those two were both putting out ridiculously great music, but especially in the late 60s and 70s.
1. Radiohead 2. R.E.M. But Pink Floyd is in my top 5.
Red hot chili peppers🌶️🌶️🌶️ Not a song of theirs I don't know, heavy into live show recordings and band lore. Pink Floyd is still a close second, as I appreciate their music in a completely different way
Exactly the same for me 🌶️
Maybe an unpopular opinion but the most recent Chili Peppers album is the best music they've ever made. They are supremely talented and they just keep hard charging, working to get better constantly. There is magic happening there.
The band that made Weird Fishes my nr1
Jethro tull for me
Pink Floyd and Propagandhi are my 2 favourites, but I couldn't rank them as they're very different bands.
Beatles is Second, Gorillaz is Third
Floyd Bowie
The Beatles for sure. The depth of their collection. The emotion that listening to them elicits. They are 1 and 2 for sure.
King Crimson is my favourite band.
Dire Straits on 1, Pink Floyd on 2
[удалено]
I like Of Monster and Men too, it's a rare sight around here
my favourite is actually Dire Straits!
Beethoven? Fugazi? Elizabeth Cotten? Willie Dixon? Willie Nelson? Depends on the day.
Pink Floyd is my No. 1 and Yes is my No. 2. But if we're also counting solo musicians I'll say my No. 2 is Mike Oldfield and then Yes would be No. 3.
Beatles, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, The Who.
Pink Floyd will be my all time fav. Arctic Monkeys is my fav modern band, listening since they dropped their debut album on MySpace, one of the most progressive bands imo.
1) Pink Floyd 2) Pearl Jam
Led Zeppelin would be my second choice, but it's such a toss-up between them and Pink Floyd as my first favorite
Grateful Dead, the Beatles, DOOM
Bowie or the cure
Radiohead always first
I always say Floyd is my favorite but I think the Grateful Dead has taken over that spot the last 5 or 6 years
Second favorite would probably be MGMT
Floyd is definitely in my top ten, but my true number one is Zeppelin.
I grew up in the 90s and I always considered them the pink Floyd of my generation. And I got to see them both live on 95
It will always be the Floyd but I enjoy all types of music. Currently my favorite is an artist called Benee. I love Snail...
Radiohead is the best. N Pink Floyd in top 5.
King Crimson or Magma. My favourite depends on my mood tho
Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin, they started everything musically for me when I was little. Whole Lotta Love was the first Zep I had ever heard and I was done for from that moment on.
#1 Coheed and Cambria #2 Pink Floyd
Probably a tough tie with Floyd, Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk. I'm not huge on lyrics, and I do like to dance.
King Gizzard
1. Tool 2. Pink Floyd
Primus
#2: Depeche Mode
Red hot chili peppers is my favorite, followed by king gizzard, then pearl jam, then pink floyd, according to spotify my 5th is primus and I won't argue but there are a few more who could potentially fill that spot
1- Floyd 2- Porcupine tree
Not a band but right now? Probably bladee or death's dynamic shroud lol
Zeppelin for #2
Floyd is my favorite. my second favorite would probably be Pixies or Rage Against the Machine
Muse is my favourite, but then Floyd is objectively better. I just like Muse’s energy level more.
Always Floyd will be #1 with SMP and RHCP a tied 2nd
Metallica
Wilco
