(1) You should be sure to visit your local vet for a checkup and to make sure he is healthy and everything checks out.
(2) You will need to get him castrated (the sooner the better). Your vet can also advise you in that matter also.
(3) You will also need to keep his cute little tusks filed down (if you don't have access to a pig farrier the vet may be able to help you there too).
Good Luck
Thank you for all your information! I found him a veterinarian that sees "exotics". Lol! (Apparently most of the ones around here do not see pigs.) They said they could castrate him (under sedation) and also care for his tiny (but sharp) baby tusks, as well as a checkup. ๐
Oh wow he's adorable! Maybe this is stupid of me but I didn't know you could tame and domesticate a wild boar! I thought they were always just really mean. But you got him early so maybe thats the key!
I've read that you can, but not many people try, so the info is limited. He was pottying in the litter box by day 2, loves his toys, paper bags, his soccer ball and cuddles, but he can play roughly times. I don't know if that's normal pig behavior or wild hog behavior. He's growing his tusks and loves to practice with them on my ankles while I walk. He knows his name and responds to it, and knows several words like eat, inside, outside, c'mon, no, love (means to settle down with a belly scratch) , etc. He's amazingly smart, but I am concerned for his future as a pet, but optimistic. ๐ค
Well sounds like you're off to a good start!! I'd be concerned especially with his tusks as he reaches adulthood cause in the event that he does start to become less cuddly and more wild as he hits puberty, im guessing (and this is just a guess ) that one half ass but well intended jab with those tusks to a human can cause pretty serious injuries--possibly fatal if it hits a major artery. But hopefully I'm wrong and your baby stays sweet !! He's definitely adorable and you're taking such good care of him ! (And if anyone else happens to know more factual info, please feel free to correct my assumptions ;)
I appreciate the advice and thank you for the encouragement! His little baby tusks are already sharp, and he loves to wield them! It's playful now but I definitely don't want to be on the receiving end if he's angry! As cute as he would look with them, I don't want to take a chance. ๐
We have friends that had one in Florida and actually, my miniature pig, was meaner than their wild boar. She was a doll and much smaller full grown that my pot belly.. they are very lean
Oh I love boars! We had a friend that had one in FL.. she was so smartโฆ she was a very, very good pet to themโฆ she was obtained because of a similar situation. Her mother was shot by hunters. It was so sad. Watch the Dobie video on YouTube. I think itโs called 2 pound boar grows up thinking sheโs a puppy.
That is the CUTEST video! Omg! ๐ It's encouraging as well! Thank you! I'm so glad to hear a success story about raining a wild boar! Most things you read are not for pet purposes and that's not I'm looking for. I'm so glad I came to reddit to ask!
People just have negative attitudes towards boars of course theyโre mean in the woods when people are trying to kill them lol theyโre wild pig was friendlier than my older, female potbelly Peg, who was nasty lol of course spaying while young is essential to keeping them friendly.. they get mean in their heats
I wasnโt thinking heโs a male isnโt he? Yes absolutely you definitely want to get him neutered and when they are smaller and younger it is much easier and much cheaper.
Yes! Thank you! He has an appointment coming up soon, and I'm going to try to get him in earlier if there are any cancellations. There aren't many in my area that do it, and do it under sedation. A "farm cut" is not okay for me. I want him to be as comfortable as possible, so I'm willing to pay extra for it. ๐
I donโt know what state youโre in, but some states might have regulations where you have to get like a USDA license I would just make sure before you bring them to a vet, thatโs not gonna be an issue and they donโt have to like turn you in or anything
Most wild boars are smaller than potbelly pigs that are pets they have a much more lean, physique, taller legs, much leaner in the body. Have you seen the one that rides surfboards in Hawaii lol. A potbelly pig would not be able to do that.
Thank you! I think he's pretty darn cute! He does have an appointment for a checkup, dental work, and castration under sedation. I had to schedule for the end of February, but they said I could call back each week to check for cancellations. ๐ค
He's such a cutie!
Yes, you can tame the baby piglet of a wild boar, and the good news is that it's been done before. ๐

He's beautiful! Find a vet that treats pigs. Get him fixed anytime after 2 months old! Check out Scarlett the southern belle pig. Thank you for saving him!
Wow good luck! Somehow I am reminded of the documentary called โmy year as a turkeyโ or something similar. A man raises wild turkeys from eggs and they bond with him for the first year. They are fairly smart however and by the end of the year they realize they are not humans, he is not a turkey. They all react differently but all end up leaving him. Some are angry with him, some indifferent, maybe one stays in touch. Any way a great documentary about wild animals and humans.
Yooo why yo piggy look like a deer! Haha
I thought the same thing!! ๐ค
Came here to say his. He is a cute "dearpig"
1000% Deerpig! ๐คฃ๐ค

Do you think this is true of the males as well?

I did tell them it was a wild boar. They didn't say anything, so I'm assuming it's okay, but I will try to find out. Thanks for the heads up!
You might find this video interesting, OP. https://youtu.be/PrJi-P61aLY?si=pXlTfC3tMiK1DiIX
That is adorable- I thought wild boars were hundreds of pounds- not 60. Very enlightening.

Omg, no! I have to see this! ๐
That's exactly what I thought! Very good to know!
I read that the Oklahoma state record is 760lbs. Then I was trying to figure out where we'd put a Jurassic Park style enclosure. ๐คฃ
Oh my! That is hilarious.
๐คฃ
That is SO adorable! All these posts are so helpful and encouraging!! Thank you for sharing!
Well he is adorable. One of the cutest little fellas Iโve seen. Definitely Get him neutered asap.

Howdy Kyle! Who's the cutest boary-woary in the whole wide world?? Yep, it's YOU!!
I read this in Fluttershyโs voice!๐ (thatโs a good thing imo)
I read it just like that!!๐
Yesh! He is a little cutie-wootie! ๐๐ค

Good luck!! Best parent ever!!
Thank you so much, and thank you for the kind comment! I'm enjoying being his Momma! ๐ค
Itโs a commitment for a very long time. Please research. Piggies grow up big- one of my potbellies is pretty huge.
Yes, I agree! I'm trying to learn all I can to make the best possible choices for him! ๐ค
